Iirc, in the Last Dance doc Pippen was mad about his contract being so little despite Reinsdorf telling him that even he thought it was a lowball before signing it. This is also the guy who took himself out the game because he was cranky that a final play wasn’t designed for him.

Contracts should be prorated. I think 65 games is the requirement for awards, so that should en the requirement for 100% of their annual pay according to their contracts. Anything less than that is prorated based on 65 being 100%. Playing more than 65 could equate to bonuses that don’t count against teams caps.

Like all sports it’s slowly becoming an entitled kid or nepo baby league. There was a time we met players who literally scratched and clawed their way to the league. Now if you don’t have famous parents paying for you to train nonstop or some aau scholarship or some other kind of money behind you you get nothing. The issue is less about the pay or injuries, and more about “why are players sitting for what is essentially scheduled losses?”. Check some of the pre game injury reports and see who is listed for “rest”. People pay 80% of their paychecks for an entertainment product, and get to watch Spencer Dinwiddie go ²⁄₁₃ from the field? Injuries aren’t the fault of the player, or the organization, but resting players on load management is, and people who bought tickets to watch Luka drop 30/10/9 end up watching Nick Smith Jr. and the gang lose by 30. It’s a bit insulting to people who saved their money for this.

I do wonder if when a new collective bargaining agreement needs to be put into place if owners would push for a pro-rated contract situation where, yes you can make \(50mil a season and we will guarantee that but if you only play 41 games you get \)25mil. I’m not saying it should be that way but it wouldn’t surprise me if that is pushed. I don’t think the players union would ever agree unless there was strict protections for major injuries.
