I really hope Denver FO finds a way to keep Watson, I’d be sad to see him go.
The ascension has been so great, I might consider trading Cam Johnson and letting JV walk and just resign Watson in the offseason
Nah y’all need a Cam type player for the ceiling of the team. The real solution is trade Braun and that massive unexplainable contract for an expiring
Wow, i didn’t realize Braun was down like that. Was he ALSO injured the entire time he’s been playing this year? Or does he just have a massive case of Boris Diaw-itis?
No, his shooting is always just subpar. Didnt think he was playing that poorly before he was injured he has just missed most of the season so far. His shooting near the rim was down a little too, but that could be small sample size. He was alright, and his contract is not the albatross they made it sound like. Some people just cant wrap their brains around NBA inflation.
Still think he deserved closer to 15-20m than 25m. Classic player with clear weaknesses that has a pop off in their contract year. Until he learns to shoot though I feel like he’s overpaid
It was a very bad ankle sprain. Tore ligaments.
Itll be a while
I’m not even talking about this year really. He’s just not the type of player the Nuggets should’ve been spending money on. Doesn’t really shoot as a guard, not an impact defender, etc.
The playoffs exposed him last year. He can score fine in the regular season but come playoff time the defense just sags way off and leaves him wide open. He shot 5 threes per game last playoffs which is way more than his regular season levels. And he only make 29% of them. It’s insane how bad he is. He will handicap this team for years to come.
“not an impact defender…”
Lmao he got paid because he is an impact defender. He’s literally our best POA defender by far.
Also, last year he led the league in fast break points and fast break points per game. Anyone suggesting the Nuggets get rid of him are overreacting massively.
Whats that mean? What does Johnson bring?
Johnson is ufa 2027 anyway and they wont be able to pay him
Johnson is a certified sharp shooter. So many teams rely on fake shooters to space the floor and it bites them in the ass come playoff time.
Braun is coincidentally a fake shooter who takes like 2 threes per game and passes up 5 open looks per game.
Agree 100%. just trade Braun to the Jazz for an expiring and a first at the first opportunity. he already looks like he plays for Utah.
5 year long negative contracts don’t just get traded.
His ascension this year has been beautiful to watch. Never thought he would be able to create his own shot at the level he has this season
If you see the way jokic and Watson are communicating this is make or break
They let this kid walk for nothing and I believe it costs them jokic. Its only money.
They can easily match and then flipped braun or cam down the line
Here we go kroenke.
They let this kid walk for nothing and I believe it costs them jokic
I love PWat and agree the front office needs to do everything to retain him, but this is insane 💀
They were in a commercial together - they are basically lovers now.
It’s more about the pattern of the Nuggets sort of cheaping out. Like when they let KCP walk for nothing. I’m not saying KCP has been amazing since he left but he could’ve maintained his level of play next to Jokic.
Exactly. If they paid kcp then brauns extension wouldve been way cheaper too and they could’ve dumped pope later
Its not a serious org.
No player leaves in rfa ever.
They cant fuck this up
Great point
Name the last good player to leave in rfa?
Dont forget denver just fucked up 2 full years of moves post title.
They’ve been cutting corners every step.
Haven’t actually tried to win a title.
If Watson walks for nothing it tells u kroenke not serious and jokic has to leave
From what I read, the best case scenario for Denver is to pay Watson (25M/yr) next season and go into second apron for one year because after that Cam and others drop off the books and they go back below again.
They have flexibility too with jonas not guranteed. And nnaji 7.4 suddenly very movable
idk about moveable lol. he’s had 4 good games
But he would be on the back end of his contract. His offense is iffy but he’s proven even during his deepest slumps that he can guard elite players
This is the truth. Even if nobody thinks he is playable his contract only be 2 years/15 can be filler in other moves.
Contract declining too. Hes a switchable big who can shoot
Its not a positive asset but its movable at 7.4 per
Optimistic on moving Nnaji, but he has a month to go to show more value to a team that needs him
7.4 is a small number. The strawther contract is now worse
Exactly. They can’t trade CB until sometime next season anyway so dip into the second apron and then do what you have to do to get him or someone else off the books.
Pure fanfiction. You guys dream up the oddest stuff.
When you do two hotels.com commercials together, you are now in a common law marriage. I don’t make the rules
Whats the last good player to leave for nothing in rfa
Name the last good player to walk in restricted free agency?
So if you lose a player in rfa at p3ak of jokic after 2 years of cheaping out?
Use ur head mate
Jokic 7th best player vs Minnesota was Justin holiday. Last year it was raw Watson.
They’ve given him nothing.
Now they are developing someone and all the murmurs out of that pathetic media market are they arent gonna pay
Who loses players out right in RFA?
Who???
If they don’t get anything for this kid it shows its not a serious org.
Just sign him with a tree planting business and all will be fine.
That’s really dramatic.
Hes an RFA. Cam and braun are having very rough years so far.
If you lose Watson you at least have to get assets back
I honestly cannot believe the type of player he has developed into. Kudos to the Nuggets coaching staff.
I remember watching him two years ago in the regular season and in our playoff matchups and it really seemed like Malone was trying to do everything he could to NOT play him. When he was in he looked really raw and I wasn’t sure he was ever going to develop into anything other than an end of bench guy but he’s look great lately. You guys def gotta try to keep him.
He was a very high recruit. And he works out with a lot of big names.
But was benchwarmer on the jaquez ucla team then pretty much 2 redshirt nba years. So hes always gonna be raw
I think Braun can be traded without giving up assets. Braun should improve as the season goes. He’s too competitive not to. Cam is expiring next year. If the Nuggets win the title, I don’t think it would be too bad to get into the 2nd apron for one year then let Cam’s contract expire or trade it for assets.
Scottie Barnes is one of those rare players who could basically improve any team and we are very lucky to have him.
Damn, Peyton Watson is super surprising. He absolutely cooked us a few days ago
he’s awesome, even though his minutes were limited last year he would always come thru in fantasy with a bunch of blocks or steals
So happy for Swatson, he is about to get PAID
As a Denver fan: Please no 🙏
eh, let our boy get paid. he deserves it
how bout we pay him?
me like
Our ownership simply will not do that.
Lets calm down on P Watson propaganda, we are trying to keep him.
No brev, my yute needs to collect some Ps this summer
In Toronto for the game, huh?
ALL NBA BARNES
Be great 4
You go be all you can be Scott.
Scottie DPOY
From bench player to start the season to Western Conference player of the week. Hell of a rise. You love to see it.
Aka the players that kicked the 76ers ass this week
Scottie was a beast, happy for him
Nuggets are lowkey stacked
The Jokic has no help narrative is on its last legs
He has help this year. Nobody has said otherwise even with 2 starters down they were performing beyond expectations.
He’s had help for years
I am sure he did but we are talking basketball here.
Lol ok
DARKO WAS RIGHT.
Media was sleeping on Barnes.
24.5 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 70.0 3FG% for P.Watson is insane!
Happy for Swatson. He’s been so important with all the injuries, glad to see him get recognition for it.
Danny Ainge needs to be crying to Peyton to convince him to sign with the Jazz in free agency. He’d be perfect for the Jazz as the Jazz have no defenders and have the worst defense in the league today. A 3 year 90 million overpay would be what the Jazz should be offering (an overpay like how the Thunder overpaid Hartenstien)
Wouldn’t be shocked if other teams offer him big money, too, like 25-30 million a year. He’s going to get a big contract in the offseason
Nets and Wizards have money too.
Offer sheets are extremely rare for a reason. Theres other gettable players out there too
Watson emerging to this level actually helps Denver
Because if multiple teams are willing to offer him then that means theres a trsde market if denver matches
They are rare, but the FA market is not strong this year. When you have multiple teams poised to have a lot of cap space (and he’s a player that fills a need), that creates a buyer’s market. Nuggets would have to be prepared to pony up and start him for good because his new salary will dictate it. Easiest solution is probably to just move Cam Johnson in the offseason.
Brooklyn: 60 million in capspace
Washington: 66 million in capspace
Utah: 62 million in capspace
Chicago: 83 million in capspace.
Nuggets will have a 221 million dollar payroll not including Watson’s qualifying offer. We’ll see what the Kroenke’s do.
Thats false. Theres a lot of gettable players in UFA this year.
The only time historically when theres offer sheets is when there is a falling out with team and player.
Teams arent going to risk their entire free agency on someone not matching
Guys like Kessler sochan mathurin ivey are much more gettable
But Watson is better than all of them, except arguably Kessler. If I’m looking to improve my team and I have cap space, why wouldn’t I make an offer sheet to him and his agent, if they’re interested? I mean be reasonable. He’s with Klutch now, they are going for the most money he can get, which is the agency’s modus operandi.
Because youre committing your entire free agency to him if denver matches. Theres a weak waiting period and at that time everyone else will be gone.
Thats why we never see offer sheets.
And before this year people would laugh at u if u said Watson better than ivey and mathurin
The Lakers and Clippers can both get up to 50 million in cap space, and they both desperately need a guy like Peyton Watson. Watson is also from the LA area. I think he ends up on one of those teams.
He would be a fantastic wing for Ace to learn from, too
i remember watching a Nuggets game a few years ago, when they had like 6 rotation NBA players, and I though that the Nuggets are SO cooked, because this Watson guy was playing a lot of minutes was not good at all.
glad to know he is doing better
Big bounce back from Peyton after that missed game winning 3 against the mavericks a while back
Well deserved for both players
Arf, Arf, Arf,Arf
PWATTTT
Big error on the website, its not Pwat stats but Zeke “the freak” Naji.
Scottie’s been the easy one to see, but Peyton Watson getting it is the real “watch Denver games” award. The context matters that 3FG% is basically a diet of corner looks created by Jokic, but the leap is that he’s punishing rotations and not just standing there. If he’s hitting at anything close to that while defending like he does, Denver’s rotation math gets a lot easier.
I don’t get what you mean by context matters about his 3Pt percentage. How can it be a diet of corner looks created by Jokic when he hasn’t played since December? Maybe you need to “watch Denver games” because Peyton is doing this while being the 2nd scoring option to Jamal; 1st option really the games Mal has been out.
I really hope Peyton can keep this up. He’s such a perfect fit next to Jokic and Murray.
I honestly hope that the relationship but Jokic will convince him to stay if paid properly, but money talks so a team can throw him a bag.
Watson is a defensive menace and now has added his own shot at great efficiency. The nuggets have a great team right now and should be top 3 for the NBA Championship.
Watson is a great two way player. On defense, he blocks shots and becomes Swatson.
Awesome to see Scottie get the recognition, DPOY contender for sure. Hopefully tonight’s rematch with the 76ers is a good one
P Watson making Braun’s contract look really damn dumb.
Scottie will have alot more of these through his career. Atta be Scottie!
Who?
Denver didn’t need to extend CB, they could have waited till restricted free agency and see how the market would react to a good player, but a shooting guard who doesn’t like to shoot 3s. Now, they have to give up on Watson after this year is done, unless the Kroenkes spend like they’ve never spent before.
This is what I was saying. You make them both play hard af this season for their contract extension which will also benefit the team this season.
They bought high on braun
They should be able to easily move cam jonas nnaji
Same mistake they made with MPJ. Just wait it out.
