Jalen Williams: “I thought I was my biggest critic. It might be Twitter”
Fair is fair, that’s pretty funny lol
He looks identical to AJ Brown
He really is AJ Brown minus the CTE
Fuck are you saying. AJ Brown had the most rational basis for being pissed of any diva WR ever, except probably for last night
Sure but that doesn’t align with my circlejerk
…huh?
African American, cornrows, mild exophtalmos.
Damn near paternal twins.
i learned a new word today. Thank you
Brown doesn’t have cornrows
Tough crowd, not a single chuckle
Media isn’t mic’d, so he might have gotten a few that weren’t picked up lol
couple of nose exhales, grins, nods for sure.
Yeah how tf do you not laugh at that lol
Reporters aren’t talking into a microphone. So you wouldn’t be able to hear them.
Idk man I hear them chuckles when jokic makes deadpan jokes
It depends how they mic up the room and whether the reporters have their microphone on when they laugh. If you watch press conferences, sometimes you can hear questions and sometimes you can’t.
It’s not a knee slapper…
it’s hilarious if you are brand new to comedy
Buncha boomers
They’re busy thinking, “It’s X now, Jalen…”
Maybe the press conference reporters are actually his biggest critics.
Yeah that’s rough, lame press crew lol
Can’t laugh at a joke about critics on twitter because their burners are the critics on twitter.
It might be reddit too.
incredibly funny
Wild they couldn’t at least blow air out of their noses for him
Uncontrollable laughter
He just can’t get away from the critics.
Thanks for not calling it X
Huge cultural victory that even people that don’t particularly care about Elon and what he did to the site still just call it Twitter too
How do you know he doesn’t care about Elon and what he did to the site?
I just kinda assume a pro athlete doesn’t really have an opinion on it unless they directly talk about it tbh
Only pro athletes? Which professions do you think do have an opinion on it without them having to directly talk about it?
Ugh
… why? Is there something wrong with thinking he is plugged into what’s happening at Twitter/X?
Ugggggghhhh
Riveting, thought-provoking reply, chap!
“You will argue with me and you will like it”
𝕏 (The Artist Formerly Known As Twitter)
delete this.
Nah, just Twitter.
I mean he’s not wrong
Yea for anyone not on twitter, people have been saying OKC is better without him and that he should be traded for weeks now lol
Always surprises me how many reactionary fans exist for a league that plays 82 regular season games lol.
These guys would hate football
Oklahoma is traditionally a college football state; that’s exactly why the fanbase is so quick to panic lol. They (especially the OU fans) are used to a sport where, for most of history, underperforming for 2 games basically ends your championship hopes.
Honestly, I believe it’s education. We dumb.
Part of the reason I believe the OKC hate is so big on social media is that our fanbase is too stupid to really have much of a digital presence.
Haha while I agree to an extent, 99% of the shit I see on reddit related to basketball outside of thunder fans is just as dumb And filled with a bunch of people that don’t understand the rules and clearly never played themselves competitively.
As an OSU fan I’m quick to panic because things always go wrong.
See?
tbf, traditionally losing two games before the playoff probably ended your championship hopes for the last 20ish years
Not just on twitter, you should look at the Thunder sub. The most ungrateful son of bitches I’ve ever seen. And I’m a Thunder fan.
Edit: it’s not all of them but it’s quite a few and they post all the fucking time. It’s so fucking irritating
Lot of rival fans who want him on their team by the sounds of it lol.
31 other teams would be on the phone with y’all if he got put on the block lol.
For the record most fans think those people don’t have two braincells to rub together. JDub absolutely is vital to our team, and most NBA teams would love to have him. If we didn’t max him, somebody would.
The crazy thing is, it’s probably mostly “Thunder fans” who are saying all of that. I remember last year after JDub shot 3-16 vs the Nuggets in game 6 of the playoffs, nearly the entire Reddit and Discord were saying he must be traded and that the team can’t win without him. It’s crazy how they turned on him, but when they won the title, all of those people praised him again. They’re currently doing the same thing with Lu Dort saying he needs to be traded and that they can’t win with him.
After everything these guys have done for the Thunder, they get turned on so quickly.
His wrist is still recovering from surgery, he knows his 3 ball isn’t like it used to be but it should continue to get better!
You guys understand that “Twitter” is colloquial for social media / the internet, which includes Reddit right? Reddit is just nerdier and snarky, but it’s also reactionary and filled with people who think they’re experts
This is an all-time quote 😂
No sane person uses twitter anymore
Unfortunately not true, despite the push for Bluesky early part of last year, seems like everyone just went back to Twitter especially sports media folks.
The problem for Bluesky is that it’s essentially just another Twitter, but used by people who don’t want to support Twitter for political reasons. For Bluesky to maintain long term growth, it would need to implement some key features that Twitter lacks.
Not hosting and perpetuating CSM like Twitter is one key feature.
Who saw that one coming….
So many damn right-wing incels on there
Lmfao. Everyone uses Twitter. Get off your reddit bubble and maybe you’d see there’s more out there than this.
I don’t know anyone in real life who posts or comments on twitter. I know like 2 or 3 who scroll it and share memes. I think anyone who posts on twitter is a maniac at this point.
Yeah you definitely live in a bubble then
He literally defined being in a bubble 😂😂
A lot of us quit after the Elon takeover. If you’re into the stuff that’s on there these days then more power to you. I just found it annoying to go on there and see mostly racism, porn and other degen stuff constantly
90% of the content here comes from twitter lmao
r/nba a close second
But here things also get way overhyped
So…. Just like Twitter?
Yep of course. But on this nba reddit the echo chamber is legendary just like we supposedly witness every time a player steps on the court in this modern era
Thunder players? Def not
idk man after they won a chip i was told by everyone here he’s gonna be scottie pippen. doesn’t seem that overhyped at alllll
The thunder sub is def #1
Yeah, you could be right but I don’t have twitter so I said they were second
Which one has more bots?
Most in here sound like bots tbh
No r/Thunder is a close second
nah it’s #1
Never seen nba twitter if you saying this. This sub has moments of being reasonable. Nba twitter? Hell no. They be reacting to every game like the world at stake
It’s specifically BECAUSE of that that I think r/nba is a worse experience; I never check nba twitter because I know there’s nothing of value to be found, but the occasional good post on this sub is what keeps me coming back to sift through the junk and find those kinds of posts
r/thunder gotta be #1 honestly.
80% of Twitter are bots or foreign troll factories. It’s a cesspool.
Most recently Elon’s AI feature Grok has been creating child porn on Twitter. I’ve seen several articles about that.
Thats if you are on the mainstream side of things. You can mute and block words to make it your own pocket that still sucks
Yeah that’s what I do. It took a LOT of muting and blocking but I’ve narrowed my feed to just NBA and NFL, since sports twitter is really funny.
But even then, there’s a few “MY PRESIDENT 🇺🇸🦅” @MAGA2028 type accounts with a sunglasses car selfie pfp that show up in NBA/NFL replies to shit on the players they despise like LeBron or Lamar Jackson.
Reddit really is not any better these days. Not in the sports circles so much but the comments you see on main page subreddits, especially anything related to politics, news, or world events, is not functionally distinguishable from Twitter in a lot of ways. The particular rhetoric may change depending on the platform or community, but it’s the same patterns.
When I was a CS undergrad I got to work with one of my professors on a research project that involved tracking the spread of misinformation on social media and part of it involved detecting and tracking these kinds of accounts. Reddit posed more problems with just getting and utilizing the data we needed and our focus was primarily on other platforms anyways, but the snapshot we did get was not a pretty look. Whether it’s targeted troll farms or just a large number of individuals doing their work for free was trickier for us to tease out in many cases, particularly on Reddit, but it was still very clearly astroturfed to hell and the routine target of specific and motivated campaigns.
That sounds very cool, is there anywhere I can read more about how you did / people do this? I have been scraping a bunch of reddit data to try and do something similar, but I’m not really sure how to start analyzing it to find bots and detect those kinds of patterns
You can probably replace that with 80% of all social media. Nothing generates engagement like rage and anger. This place is full of bots creating and sustaining that engagement.
I finally deactivated mine last week for a multitude of reasons, and it’s been pretty damn nice staying away from it entirely.
Im not sure if I’ve ever seen someone have expectations so unreasonable as how much people expect from his performance 3 months removed from wrist surgery
Didn’t he get surgery in like July? That’s 6 months homie lol. Still, he clearly needs more time, I just wanted to be pedantic.
Edit: That was the main surgery, he did have a followup to remove screws, thanks for the reminders.
He had two surgeries. One in summer and one after training camp to get the screws removed
Ah yes, you right, I remember that now
So he’s ready to play though right? Or do you think he came back too early.
If he’s cleared by the doctors I think it’s important for him to get out there and get live reps. Even if it hurts us in the short term, maintaining a conference lead is all we care about, and I don’t think him playing prevents us from achieving that
I think he was overrated last year too. He’s been back a month and a half and we’re still supposed to treat him like it’s his first game back every game.
Spoiled ass fans like you blow my mind with these takes
For many major injuries, players can take a pretty long tome to get back to feeling “normal”, even if they are cleared to play.
I think physically he’s pretty much healed. Now it’s about adjusting to basically a new wrist with screws and shit in it
His wrist doesn’t have screws famously
Doctors can tell you that you’re healed from what they “think”. Knowing about pain and other discomfort the patients only know. Then it’s how your body reacts and what you’re accustomed to.
He had a second one after playoffs late october
I mean he has been back a month and if he wasn’t ready to come back, he shouldn’t be playing. I’ve seen guys get criticized a lot more coming back from a lot worse injuries.
Comes with the territory being a star and champion.
what a lot worse injuries
Like don’t get me wrong I’m sure there are worst, but having to remove a screw from your shooting hand wrist because it wasn’t recovering properly months after having the first surgery on it is a pretty damn fucked up injury for a basketball player to have
But yeah, definitely it’s due to being a champion, also his clutch 40pt performance at the finals made people want to see him do the same in the early regular season
I don’t think I’d ever get used to missing a nail even if it didn’t hurt or anything it would be so weird just having skin there
That’s 100% on my english, by nail I meant like, a screw inside his wrist, not a finger nail, my bad
In case you’re curious tho, I’ve lost full finger nails before, they just grow back eventually. It does look really weird when it’s still only skin or the stubble of a fingernail.
I’ve never seen a fanbase with more of a victim complex in my life lol god forbid a guy on your team underperforms and receives a little bit of criticism for once. He has played poorly, that’s a fact…people have high expectations for him and the team and both have been on an underwhelming trend since he returned.
You really asked what worse injuries? Um Achilles, torn knee ligaments, fractured fibulas, fractured ankles, torn obliques…
Not for nothing, but broken bones are almost never as big an issue for NBA players as soft tissue/ligament damage.
It’s really ironic to read this type of shit from a dude who’s triggered like this from seeing a recovering player receive even the smallest amount of praise.
Feel free to point me towards the bigger backlash against a recovering player 3 months within surgery since you’ve seen it sooo many times instead of throwing a tantrum
None of what you wrote is in any way accurate lol you’re just defensive and sensitive. No one is triggered by anyone receiving praise, I’m laughing at yet anyone Thunder fan crying “woe is me” because some topic isn’t 100% pro-Thunder lol
Goofy ass.
Guys play poorly all the time coming back from injuries and they rarely get a pass..it’s life, get over it and stop crying about it 😂
Question: What player specifically was “criticized a lot more” after they rushed themselves back to help the team?
Homie, you just listed a bunch of injuries. You made absolutely no point by listing those lol.
Paolo is one that comes to mind last year, started off red hot, got hurt with the torn oblique, played like shit for a solid few months after returning last year and got plenty the “Paolo sucks, Franz is better” treatment, but then actually was great after his ramp up and in the playoffs.
Embiid has rushed back from countless injuries he probably shouldn’t have, that never protected him from criticism.
Or what about guys who actively play through injuries and still get criticized? Like Tatum in the ‘22 finals run? No pass given there either.
The point is JDub isn’t some victim here, guys always are expected to play to the normal level after a week or two back, fair or not…he certainly isn’t some extreme case of persecution lol stop crying about it
No matter when you come back you’re going to have to ramp up. Keep in mind in addition to surgery recovery, he didn’t have a preseason or training camp. We saw this with LeBron this year.
I’m aware, and virtually every player who has returned ever has had to deal with that…and yet OP has “never seen someone have expectations so unreasonable”.
Classic example of an echo chamber where someone only focuses on their little world lol
if he wasn’t ready to come back, he shouldn’t be playing
This is what I thought at first too, but iirc it won’t really get better if he doesn’t play, it’s that sort of an injury. He just has to get used to how the wrist actually works while ramping it up.
This is not like a calf strain or something where sitting down actually provides long term benefits.
It’s about getting comfortable with this “new version” of his wrist, mostly. A slight bonus to all of this is he has been great finishing with his left hand now, so if he gets comfortable playing with both, in can assist in his unpredictability moving forward.
“The haters said I couldn’t do it. And they were correct. Honestly great call from the haters.”
Everyone wanted to know what I would do if I won anything once. I guess we’ll never know
Are there zombies in there? Nobody thought that was funny?
I just cannot imagine being a professional athlete this day and age and remaining on shit like twitter, or any social media for that matter. Just makes no sense to fuck with your mindset and confidence for no reason. And also you are most likely reading bot comments, not even a real person’s opinion
Dub needs a shitty Neocities site to shortlist and blog about goofy hyper fixations.
Thunder fans who bitch about him nonstop on Twitter are psychos. Dude played the entire playoffs with torn wrist ligaments and helped bring home our first ring. He’s a Thunder legend forever for that, and he certainly deserves more grace than he’s gotten as he recovers.
All these accounts only started to pop up once we started getting the 1 seed, too. None of these people forced themselves to watch guys like Darius Bazley or Isaiah Roby lol
omg Throwby…
He dropped 40 in game 5 of the finals, they could never make me hate him
Twitter or X is a cesspool. Negatively is thriving because “if I’m not happy, you can’t be either”
Twitter is what you make it though, just like Reddit. If you want to read stuff that will makes you mad you absolutely can do that on Twitter just like Reddit. If you don’t want to get mad on Twitter or Reddit then just follow things you like and block/mute things you don’t want to see.
I bailed a year ago. I check in maybe every six months to see what elon’s algorithm is cooking up for me to see in my top 2-3 posts, just to confirm it’s exponentially more toxic than the last time I visited, which it always is.
I don’t know how people can look at what’s happening in this country and keep using Twitter given who owns it.
Reddit: “am I a joke to you?”
I stay away from twitter as a normal person. Ain’t no way I’m going anywhere near it as a professional athlete or celebrity. Cesspool
Better to stay insulated in your reddit safe space bubble, right?
A friend of mine had a family member go missing awhile back, I checked in on Twitter to see if anyone had any news about the situation and the family’s thread was full of random unrelated accounts shitting on “Blue Cities” for allowing this to happen, and taking shots at the family. Talk about a cesspool… I deleted Twitter that day and do not miss it.
Yeah I honestly don’t know if Reddit is much better. 🤷 all forms of social media can lead you down some pretty weird tunnels.
I’d argue Reddit is typically much better
Sports subs are a bit toxic though but even compared to twitter it isn’t that bad
I’m not saying I feel bad for these guys who end up making $30-60 mil a year, but the constant noise and criticism and tweets from 40 year old guys in their parents basement must get sooooo tiring. on one hand I think there is a bit more accountability than pre-social media, but on the other hand it really must be exhausting, it kinda sucks
It’s also excessively become literal middle schoolers getting online to just spew garbage. I was outside kicking rocks when I was 12… these kids be karma farming in the hatersphere
right, ya. and those middle schoolers have infinite time and not many brain cells (not their fault, I was dumb as a rock in middle school too, except I didn’t have twitter and instragram to @ my favorite player, lol)
I wonder if the accountability aspect is kinda fading? Like there is almost nothing except constant criticism–a lot of it in bad faith–to the point where it all becomes meaningless noise that everyone is (maybe should?) taking it less and less seriously.
that’s actually a great point. I was comparing it to the 90s/00s where I think a lot of guys were given a lot of money and responsibility very quick and didn’t handle it well
it’s felt for a lot of the 2010/20s we haven’t seen that as much. but perhaps now it’s so constant that it’s easy to tune out. I’m not sure, but I think it’s an interesting theory honestly
They’re bitching about someone else spending money, that’s what gets me. They act like it’s coming out of their pocket.
Im glad he avoids this sub though.
It’s actually the fantasy basketball subreddit
“Might”
Damn, he forgot about us.
Every celebrity might as well use this😭😭😭😭
Jalen Williams is dealing with some of the same issues as Jaylen Brown in terms of wonky interpretations of +/- data & efficiency numbers.
Both are obviously good 2-way players who are good to very good at everything, but not elite in scoring efficiency or playmaking. Both are tasked with carrying the offense of the 2nd unit, units that sometimes have flawed or limited support. So, their efficiency & +/- data look worse than their level of play.
So, every time they have a dip, or the team has a dip, they are easy scapegoats.
It was so hard when people were looking at dubs numbers compared to other players of his ilk and the money that the Thunder gave him. Last year he was working on OKCs new implementation of their offense with a double big, playing with the most different lineups and playing with rookies all the time.
the wrist injury is frustrating. it’s gonna get better, but it has taken other players (brandon miller, jaylen brown) 9+ months since surgery date to get better. That would put JDub’s 100% recovery right in time for the playoffs. however, i imagine being in the playoffs is not gonna be the easiest time to get into form.
all to say, i imagine this season is gonna be up and down shooting wise for the entire season. my only hope is that his finishing at the rim returns to form and his handle becomes less iffy in the next 2 months.
Luckily we have Dub for many more years, and will ultimately look back on this period of time as a small bump in the road
agreed. i’m bullish in seasons after this, but the thunder will have to work around his recovery for their title run this year. certainly not impossible, but it’s important to set expectations
They worked around an injured wrist last year and it worked out. Much better situation this year, sitting in January and he’s getting better by the week.
I mean, he went through the entirety of LAST season’s playoffs WITH the injury. I think he’ll be fine.
yeah, it can only be improved from last year which is good haha. it’s just not gonna be as good as it was in March 2025 but still probably better than it was in May 2025
Damn.
This guys too funny lol. This and the ‘its the nba. No one fights’ 🤣
Jdub seems like such a nice kid
Hate seeing such a nice dude get the treatment. But i get it, OKC has that target on their back and they’re young.
On a side note, how long will people still refer to the website as “twitter” before Elon’s dumbass goes back to it
Thought I was listening to RJ for a second
Hopefully none of our players are on reddit
Twitter isn’t a critic, it’s a mental health hazard. 💀 Glad he keeps the receipts though.
Twitter is everyone’s biggest critic. Its primary base are Russian bots whose sole priority is to create chaos and pin people / groups against each other.
Oh brother
Every time i hear or read that social platform referred to as “Twitter”, I secretly hope Elon Musk suffers a little inside.
please for the love of god stop using the app that produces CSAM and boosts nazis. its not that hard.
Of all the thunder players I find Jdub the most tolerable by far lol. He usually has a good attitude.
Twitter is a cesspool. Did it just turn into 4Chan?
Holy shit he deserved a better crowd. That timing was impeccable lmfao
‘I thought I was my biggest critic. It might be Twitter’ - JDub keeping it real. When you’re a key rotation player helping OKC maintain a top record but Twitter still finds ways to nitpick everything, that’s just modern NBA life.
Jalen’s injury had an expected timeline which he met. It didn’t mean though that he was going to be 100%. It just meant his wrist SHOULD be healed in that timeline. I think what’s frustrating is that even within the Thunder fanbase - with screen names that many of us see on a daily basis across ALL platforms - there’s a segment of the population who still feels that he should quickly go back to the “old Jalen” out of fears of losing regular season games. WORSE, there’s folks in the vocal minority who feel that he is now lesser than someone like Ajay because….Ajay is more flashy than Jalen, who is a month from wearing street clothes on the bench.
Easy to type “stay offline” but also maybe fans and critics should be fair and just in their ways…which of course is laughable to type
I wouldn’t say the injury timeline was met. He wasn’t expected to need the surgery in training camp, but a screw was bothering him so they went in and took it out. That’s definitely a setback in the return. Since THE SECOND SURGERY, his timeline and slow return is unsurprising.
It’s regular season basketball; these games don’t matter (except for the fact that OKC started 25-1 and fans started dreaming about where they could end up).
Come to Bluesky, Jalen! There’s also way less Chris Paul
Somebody make a sports graphic meme quote of this
Wait till bro see this subreddit
Thank you for calling it Twitter.
Bro doesn’t know i’m not on twitter #okcisbetterwithoutjdub #therealjaylinwilliams
Twitter slander is unmatched
Bunch of dick riders in here think Jalen should stop playing basketball and start being a comedian.
What an ugly jacket
Nobody is it’s own biggest critic. It’s just what pretentious people say to appear himble. Not necessarily in this situation as he said for the joke but I always disliked that expression
I mean if he dropped the whole holier-than-thou act, I don’t think people would be criticizing him the way he does.
I’m genuinely confused. What holier than thou act?
r/NBA is foaming-at-the-mouth, full body convulsions level deranged when it comes to this team i promise there is no reasonable answer to your question lol
There’s a lot of unlikable guys on OKC, but you’ve gotta love JDub. He’s always really funny and insightful and has shown a lot of leadership for such a young player. Hopefully it doesn’t take too much longer for him to finish healing up and get back into form.
