The Hawks successful stretches this year have been through defense. November and January they’ve been a top 10 defense. NAW and Dyson are demons, when Jalen feels like trying he’s a great defender, and Mo Gueye is probably among the best defensive players in the league. When Porzingis plays he is also just deters people from the rim which helps. It’s just funny because in the unsuccessful stretches, they’ll give up 150 a game to the Raptors and Bulls.

December was the big awful stretch and Decembers have just been cursed for the Hawks since like 2022. First Christmas day game the Hawks have had since I dont even remember and the team had the covid bug so Lance Stephenson played minutes for us that game lol. They’re a good defensive team when it’s not during the cursed month

It could be injuries, bad scheduling, fucking Covid – you name it – but the team always loses key personnel and hard regresses to .500. He’s spoken about this before and has said that he always tries to get his teammates involved instead of forcing things. The rest of the roster needs to step up and perform because relying on just Steph and Jimmy for offense is not sustainable at their age.

It’s not just the scoring. They could not get a stop for the life of them during that period the Hawks blew the game open.

Honestly, the Warriors could probably live with some scoring droughts. Butler helps so much because if it comes down to it, he can take it to the paint and draw a foul with some good old ethical basketball. Melton, Post, and Podz can get it going sometimes, just not every game (and certainly not this game), and it’s only going to get better once Kerr stops experimenting with lineups.

The Warriors absolutely cannot live with letting the team get all the shots they want. Random bench players go nuclear against the Warriors, because the Warriors defense just isn’t that good. Any dribble penetration results in an open look against the Warriors. If they sacrifice defense for offense, it’s only going to get worse.

Eh, I think they’ve done fine with Looney, Poole, and Podziemski. Post and TJD are fine for where they were drafted. Wiseman didn’t know how to play basketball, and that didn’t change in Detroit. Smart guy off the court. Can’t function on the court. Maybe Indiana would’ve been able to develop him, but it was looking grim for him. Not sure you can lay that on GS.

Moody just doesn’t have the goods. Pains me to say it because he’s a good guy and a hard worker. He’s very professional. Good attitude and work ethic. He’s just straight up pedestrian. Limited athlete with no real tools for the NBA level. If you hear your team is trading for Moses Moody, your reaction is, ‘Oh.’ He’s just there. That’s the brutal truth.

To say Kerr fumbled these guys would imply that they could’ve been something far greater elsewhere, and I don’t see that.

Kuminga is the only one with real NBA talent. I can buy the argument that Kerr should’ve gotten more out of him. They really tried at times. The fit was always awkward with Draymond and then they went and got Jimmy, who is also redundant and eating those minutes. I think you could see Kuminga have something of a renaissance elsewhere, but it’s not like Kerr never gave him chances. Every time it seemed like the light was going on, bad habits would creep in and he’d fall out of favor.

Maybe you could say Rollins, but he only had a cup of coffee in GS. DC also canned him. I think he’s an aberration.

Moody can’t knock down big time shots, plays okay but not great defense, and can’t handle or drive.

On non tanking teams, Moody would barely crack the rotation. Kerr has him in the closing lineups and sometimes even starts him. On contenders, he might even get buried on the bench.

Take a look at guys like Looney, Poole, and GP2. The minute they leave, they start performing under expectations.

It was business. He even came out and said that he asked out mid-season just to make sure he didn’t hurt the team’s cap situation if the team couldn’t justify paying him the max. He’ll always be one of our most electric players and I’m sad we couldn’t keep him as a lifer – but ask anyone who’s been a fan for a team long enough what happens when a beloved player is making too much money for the team’s cap. I’d rather he leave for now, get his money, and maybe make a comeback to us when he’s winding down in his career (because he’s definitely got the goodwill to do so) than keep him here and he get run out of town for handcuffing the team to mediocrity via the tax.

I just don’t see anything to be bitter about. He left in a way that I unironically can’t even find fault with – he wanted his check, and the new CBA apron system was the only thing stopping us from giving it to him. Never been a malcontent or in the news for dumb shit, always knew to keep his heel antics strictly on the court.

He allegedly has been playing through a hand/wrist injury through most of the year. Seen with a brace on it during most of his downtime.

Yea I think the hand injury may be a big part of it, but the other big reason why his shot is off is that he’s working with Kyle Korver and the team’s coaches to tear down and rebuild his shooting mechanics. Hopefully next year he comes back with a jump shot

It’s insane Kuminga hasn’t played in 15 games. He might not be a star but no way is he worse than most of the guys getting minutes over him. I get not having a trade piece get injured but you don’t do that 15 games out. Warriors are old and they are running the old guys to the ground already
