Joe Mazzulla when a reporter asked him why he called a timeout: “You just asked that like it was a therapy question. We just gave up two rebounds. It’s why I called timeout.”
Can you tell us more about your relationship with your parents?
Why did you call the time out on your dad?
He called The Town overrated. I had to take my belt to his ass.
Why is belt to ass the most used phrase of 25 26? I thought we didn’t like that type of parenting. But its belt to ass this belt to ass that everywhere in common speech.
I haven’t heard it much but I think it’s just that kind of time where enough of us who got the belt are trying to make light of the situation to cope. Does it work in the sense that too many people have the shared experience? Yes, does it work in the sense that we should keep the trend going? Probably not, but let some people cope with their trauma.
I got the spatula and cold showers. But as a parent now I asked my parents what how I was acting out enough to get cold showers and they couldn’t remember. Definitely some trauma processing going on and I respect it. I think the belt sounds worse than what I got though.
It’s just alarming to me, i mostly hear it on the 520 podcast. Those boys always saying belt to ass for the lakers belt to ass for the wizards belt to ass that.
Their use of pause also gives me pause. Lot of people got diddled as kids and like you said comedy helps.
Whoopin/spanking have always been terms in reference to beating someone. BTA is just another variation.
Pause is not a molesting thing it’s an anti gay thing. I also think your over thinking belt to ass it’s a turn of phrase that doesn’t need to be explained and it stuck. Are we gonna psychoanalyze 6⁄7 too?
Sounds like you could use some corporal therapy yourself.
Is relationship in the room with us right now?
And how did your parents feel when you lost the game today, were they in a depressing mood, sad mood or just ok.
He’s my favorite coach when it comes to post game interviews ngl.
He’s the next Pop with these interviews lmao

Why would you have a negative reaction to this?
American reporters ask the most sterile questions.
What did you want him to say to sound better? I’m a warriors fan, and this is great.
“I called a team out cause they were out rebounding us”
Well the reporter was really asking if there were any times where he was felt like there was a lack of effort, not just why he called a timeout in that situation. He could have just said “the timeout wasn’t out of frustration with effort, rather just regrouping and refocusing the guys on getting boards. I felt like our guys fought hard all 48 minutes tonight.”
Well the reporter got an answer to his poor question. He answered the long winded, leading, close-ended question by saying simply saying “No”. then said why he called the timeout “we gave up two rebounds so I called time out”. The reporter was trying to lead him into admitting frustration or a similar emotion about the teams play in a terrible question format.
He doesn’t owe a poor question an in depth answer. He should have asked a leading question instead of a closed ended question if he didnt want a yes or no answer. Any closed ended question can be answered “yes” or “no”. Thats more on the reporter for a poor question.
I think Joe is super weird. But you can tell by his body language and response to the reporter that he was just shrugging off another media person trying to get a specific emotion and response to game play out of him. And he wasnt having it
Tremendous analysis
But he didn’t say no, he insulted the reporter’s wording (which was wordy there was no point in including the timeout anecdote), and then only addresses the timeout moment mentioned at the beginning of the question. At no point does he use the word “no,” and he does not address the effort throughout the entire game. The answer I put in quotes is the correct, media literate answer to the question. There was no need to put down the reporter and he didn’t even answer the question, although the question was not great
How did he insult anyone?
Soft as hell man
Say what you mean to say.
A lot of people need that advice
The reporter says word for word “were there moments in this game you felt frustrated with the effort on some of the boards or something else”
He is just a weird guy, imo
And did I mention I hate the Celtics?
FUCK BOSTON!!!
You, my friend, are also a weird guy.
Oh wow
You are breaking some big news here
I agree with your name tho.
Find joy
Literally as I’m celebrating a jaguars TD
I am happy af
And you’re replying on Reddit within seconds? I feel bad for the life you live my friend
Hey dude this is a spider man meme situation
I’m doing a ok
If you are unhappy that’s something for you to work on
Ya, that’s the reason. As someone who nothings Boston, Joe is peak.
I’ve met his uncle a few times and yeah he says this is basically him LMAO
You never know, but he’s never seemed like a man putting on an act lmao
Un-ironically he’s made me feel a lot better about my later in life diagnosis of Tourette syndrome. This guy is just as crazy and me and thriving, maybe I really can finish writing my Napoleon vs Space Vietnam books.
i’d seriously read the shit out of those books
By space Vietnam do you mean like they’d be operating like the Vietcong?
A true Bob Huggins disciple ..
Joe looks like the type of guy who would try to fight his therapist.
Joe looks like he’s the type of guy who would get startled and try to fight his reflection in the mirror.
Joe looks like he’s the type of guy who would fight
Well, within the boundaries of some type of coin system, at least.
Joe looks like the type of guy to bow out of respect after being startled by his reflection
“You should see the other guy!”
Therapist: Gives advice
Joe: That’s a coin.
Bobby Manning, the “reporter” asking the question is terrible. Always talking about feelings and not ball. I love when Joe banishes him to the shadow realm.
oh c’mon, Bobby’s not terrible he’s just a giant dork. His X’s and O’s knowledge is totally serviceable and his takes are fine/valid. He was ahead on the value of Luke Kornet-bring-decent thing by several months and he’s got a decent pulse of the team.
Joe hates him the way he hates Jake Simone, and in the way he loves Noa Dazell, i.e. it’s mostly Joe meme’ing. The CLNS media team put out a great, free post-game on YouTube every single game, I don’t know how a fan can get that kind of access from a bunch of beat reporters and be salty about it
Hell yeah, good work coming up to bat for the team! They’re not perfect, but I really like the work those folks do. I think we’re pretty lucky overall with our beat reporters and stuff. Even if they got salty after the coaches vs media game :D
Side note: Josuey Pavone (spelling may be wrong) is pretty lucky to go from covering the Celtics in a championship season to the Thunder in a championship season!
Having to ask coaches post game questions seems like an actual nightmare gig. I guess some people are into that shit, but noooooooo thank you
You should see some euroleague answers theyre pure gold. I rewatch the compilation with english subtitles like once a year, because i dont know every european language and the best ones are usually in native tongue.
And how did that make you feel?
Might be the most honest person on Earth. Love these Mazz interviews.
He’s like a young Pop if Pop was an absolute psycho. Probably my favorite coach in the league.
How did this guy not crash out after they went down 2-0 to the Knicks last year
lol he honestly probably did and we just didn’t hear about it.
during our chip run 2 years ago we already had the 1 seed locked up and lost back-to-back games in Atlanta. Mazzulla claimed he was so mad afterward that he went to his jiujitsu trainer to blow off steam and went so hard that he tore his meniscus lmao
Can he be our coach. I feel like Mose would be completely OK with the bare minimum and doesn’t push our dudes to be excellent. He thinks he Steve Kerr the way he never calls timeouts when the other team goes on runs completely, forgetting we don’t have Steph Curry on our team to stop the momentum.
or the year before the chip when they lost to the heat and had gone down 3-0
He doesn’t like to blame players in public. Even after the 0-3 deficit he took the blame.
Coming back down 3 is when I knew Joe was a good coach.
Locker room issues that year, Joe was thrown into the job with less than a week to prepare, and had Ime’s assistants who clearly didn’t care and knew they were leaving at the end of the season to be with Ime. You can’t put all the blame on Joe, but as he does, he went in front of the cameras and took the blame.
He’s a good coach
That’s when Joe did his jungle expedition (I am not making that up)
Haha, i would for sure.
For my answer of why he did/does not crash out, I wanted to share this link. I thought this was a very candid/thoughtful interview with Joe about who he is and what he is about.
https://youtu.be/wRQAtLQrLs4?si=imtAPmJfyN7fk1w5
Because he is a good coach and knows that being down 0-2 is a part of the game and freaking out would only impair their ability to win.
Well…less about being down 0-2 and more how does it happen the same exact way twice at home
am i the only one who thought it was a legit question lol
I may still have an inherent dislike of the Celtics as an organization, but I can’t help but like Mazzulla.
totally normal question. joe must still be mad about his court mandated therapy
Imagine Joe coaching Ayton LOL
he would need 10 timeouts a game just for DA . And the stuff they would say … It would brake the internet.
He looks even scarier when he smiles.
Joe’s lazy eyes are freaking me out
God damn I don’t know who’s worst - the officials or the media in the NBA.
every question feels like they are trying to milk reactions, and find the next scoop. they don’t even care or want to cover the game. they just fucking stir the pot
The preambles before the actual question is always so frustrating: “Here’s what I would like to report, do you agree?”
lmao
His speed of that and focus is bonkers
Mazzulla always fucking with Bobby 😂
This dude is legit hilarious and I hope he’s the Celtics coach for a long time, or at least someone’s head coach
This dude is so annoying and loves attention more than players.
He’s such a dick lmao
This dude is so cringe. I can see why Redditors like him so much
This man legit wakes up everyday and says “how can I be more corny than the day before?”.
Why doesn’t he stand up for his players when they get a crappy whistle?
Do you watch every presser he does? My guess is no.
For the most part, yes. The post-game show I regularly watch plays Joe’s live pressers.
I hate his face. His face is stupid.
