Donovan Mitchell: “What happened to your shooting?” -Rudy Gobert: “I like the floater better” -Mitchell: “No. Your jump shot is way better. You don’t look confident” -Rudy: “I wasn’t confident on that one” -Mitchell: “That’s what I’m saying”
Seeing this and then tonight’s Jazz score.
What could have been…
We were on a 6 game win streak in the playoffs before Paul George dove into Mitchell’s foot at the end of game 2.
Feels bad. The Jazz not only had the leagues best record but also a top 3 alltime ORTG (at the time) and at one point won 24 straight home games.
They were a really good team.
How have the draft picks they got for Gobert and Mitchell turned out
Keyonte looks like a future star
Walker (although not drafted with a pick but included in the trade a week after being drafted) shows to be a solid player
Walt has solid rotational player potential
Jazz still have some draft picks in 2027, and 2029
I do think the draft picks used from those 2 trades have netted the Jazz a bright future
what about Ace?
He was drafted with a Jazz pick. The question were what players were drafted with the Cavs and Timberwolves picks
my bad i didn’t notice
Ace pick still needs factored though because that ain’t happening if they didn’t trade those players prior
He’s also a nice guy. Met him in downtown Salt lake a few months ago
In your opinion, what seems to be holding Walker back from being a star player?
Injuries. He can’t stay on the floor
I’m sorry but Keyonte doesn’t look like a future star, he looks like Anfernee Simons 2.0
I think keynote is already better than Simon’s at any point in his career
You haven’t been watching this season then.
Last year this was a 1000% valid take. I literally called him the Anthony Bennett of Anfernee Simons in a comment. But he’s definitely proved he’s something better. I didn’t anticipate him making a leap but he has made huge strides. Still historically bad on D. But he’s much improved on offensive side.
The majority of them still haven’t conveyed yet, but so far it’s pretty much Keyonte George and Walter Clayton Jr
I think Walter is gonna be a solid piece for yall once he gets a season under his belt
Keyonte hoopin this year. Still wild to me that he never played PG before he was drafted to the NBA.
Same thing with Jalen Johnson. His game has developed leaps and bounds. And they are starting to play him more as a point forward rather than a wing
In an era Dame Lillard is a PG why can’t Keyonte?
Acting like “Paul George diving” mattered whilst your team let Terance Mann put up 39 points in a must win lmao
And Ingles tore Kawhi’s ACL, then the clippers still closed them out
Lol what.
Those Jazz teams were regular season gangsters who got found out year in year out in the Playoffs and no one took them seriously hence the FO breaking them up. Stop cappin

Clippers fans talking, lol
My personal hot take is Danny should’ve never traded Spida and Rudy. I know they finished the playoffs in embarrassing fashion the season before and it felt like the teams ceiling has lost but look where tanking since them has gotten them. If they don’t but this next draft their rebuild could be a disaster. Keyonte looks like he has all star ceiling maybe, Filipowski could be something but he could still be nothing, Collier is cool but has a good role player ceiling, Hendricks has injury concerns, and Lauri is good but he’s so old now with how long it’s taken them to rebuild it’s almost certain he won’t be in his prime when the Jazz are good again. It’s just like what was the point. When the season ended both Spida and Rudy went to Danny Ainge and asked him not to trade them and that they wanted to figure it out. Should’ve retooled around Rudy and Spida all these years
Donny wanted out
At the time pretty much everyone from the players to the fans knew that it was time to move on.
I think we might start to see a huge shift in how much draft capital means in trades, too. At the time it was like whoa look at all these picks that Utah amassed! But when they’re from good teams and you start to see the players you typically get with those picks, you’d rather have the star.
Had no assets to retool, locker room was blowing up, and Mitchell wasn’t re-signing. They had another year tops before the teams implodes and they’re in the same situation they have been in since the trade, just with less assets to rebuild with.
That Jazz with young Mitchell was so cool to watch. They played really nice bball
I was super high on that team and they never got enough respect.
As a Bucks fan, I was most worried about meeting the Jazz in the finals of 2021.
First round exit like most of your existence
It’s funny how perception works in the nba. Rudy is “skinny” or at least way, but now with these new young centers he looks freaking massive. His strength is kind of an underrated part of his game
His strength is why he’s so much better defensively than all the other long bigs that are often even more athletic and mobile
His build is kinda unassuming, was surprised when I saw a shirtless pic
lol me too, I spent like 45 minutes looking at different pictures of him shirtless after I saw him so that I could understand it from all the different angles and lighting and stuff. Really interesting from an athletic perspective
Least homoerotic r/nba member
pause
At this point just slide in his dms
Look at Mr Stamina over here, lasting 45 minutes looking at shirtless Gobert pics.
“Mom! It’s just research, I swear! I don’t even like basketball!”
AYO
Dosunmu
You should start buying the espn mag body issue
Bro all those Frenchman be built, except Boris Diaw. His game was so nice tho.
Boris Diaw used to be super athletic. He won a dunk contest in France with a free throw line dunk.
Here he is training with Tony Parker when he was a skinny 17 year old : https://youtu.be/Rw_3tS9F1tE?si=m0iJpZSJSWxhfU6E
There’s a story about Boris smoking a cigarette and drinking coffee and casually hitting the highest part of the vert measuring thing. In slides
He’s built differently
I remember thinking a decade ago brook lopez was skinny relative to the centers of that era. Even DeMarcus cousins. When the golden state warriors era started those centers ended up being too slow.
What centers need now is cardio. They need to be able to defend the rim, rebound and then go back on transition. Being skinny helps a lot.
I remember thinking a decade ago brook lopez was skinny relative to the centers of that era.
I wonder who much of that was a reaction to Shaq being a big, chunky motherfucker and needing centers who could slow him down.
Back in the day, teams had a couple of big mother fuckers whose entire job was just to try to slow Shaq down and foul him 6 times.
I feel like it’s always like this. The taller the dude, the later they hit their “adult frame.” Rudy WAS skinny as hell in his early years and has slowly gotten bigger, now he’s pretty buff.
It’s quite suprising, whenever I look at an ‘older’ players highlights from their younger years they look SO much skinnier than I remember. LeBron in 09 was already a tank, but he looks slim as fuck compared to now lol. Durant, he’s still slim, but same thing, guy was a stick bug. Check out 2012 Harden lol.
Some players bulk tf up fast on purpose, Giannis and Embiid for example, and it’s easy to remember their skinny forms.
LeBron in 2006 looked like Kobe could bodied him. That’s how different his pre-Heat and post-Heat body were.
He’s definitely gotten in way better shape this season. He’s fucking jacked this season
He came in very lanky but he’s obviously grown into his body. That’s a big man!
Feels like some mind tricks - man you should really take more 3s!
That would be a sneaky sneaky psyop. IDK enough about Donovan Mitchell to know what’s more likely.
He’s definitely fucking with him.
Nah Rudy can shoot. There’s video of him and wemby shooting before wemby was drafted. Maybe they were playing horse? Rudy also hits more with the French national team. I think in the nba he gets in his own head.
Every player can shoot in an open gym. I’ve seen Mitchell Robinson look like Jayson Tatum vs scrubs. It was only like a years and a half ago that Ben Simmons was doing a workout video shooting with a coach
Ben Simmons always looked bad tho.
Cause he is bad lol.
Because he’s right handed but somehow was taught to shoot with his left and he and he brother/trainer were too stubborn to fix it
This. Went to a Laker game and watched D12 hit 10 3’s in a row from the corner during halftime shootaround. Think he went like 15⁄20 before walking away
Front office directives to maximise the designated scorers attempts. Ant shoots a lot of 3’s.
Probably exhausted carrying the defense. Wolves are the only team that had the personnel to make him shine. It’s hard being a center in today’s era. You have to do everything.
Definitely. This wasn’t friendly chit chat lol Mitch had other motives lol
This healed something in me
Same — even I felt it and I’m not a Jazz fan.
Man that Jazz team had a spark
Man, it feels nice seeing Spida and Gobert having a conversation after the drama
I know Gobert will get his jersey in the rafters, but it would be cool to see Spida’s 45 next to Gobert’s, too. Yeah, he only played 5 seasons in Utah, and those teams never made it past the second round, but those were fun exciting teams.
Hopefully, in 20 years, the Jazz can do a 2018-2022 retro night where they invite Gobert and Mitchell to attend a game, and the AJ Dybantsa in his final season Jazz team can wear those jerseys for that retro night
I became an NBA fan in Decemebr 2017 because, as a Utahn, I wanted to invest in a sport, and that was the time Spida was getting hyped, so it was easy to be a fan of your local team when they had an up and coming superstar. I don’t think I’d become the NBA superfan I became today back in late 2017 if it wasn’t for Spida and Gobert, so it’s cool seeing them have a casual conversation after the “unsalvagable” drama.
Adam silver would rather take a bullet in the head than let the jazz get AJ 😭 but i pray y’all get him
Considering Ryan Smith is the one paying AJs NIL money at BYU, the connection is already there
Even if they get him, by the time his contract extension is up he’d have already spent 10+ years in Utah. I really don’t think he’d re-sign past his rookie extension
It’d depend on results same as everything else. If there is a Jazz have won 2 championships in the last 3 years and are mid-dynasty? He’d stay. Never made the playoffs? He’s out. It’s where that line is that’s difficult to know.
It won’t be a true 2018 to 2022 without the legend, the myth, Jazz & MN towel waiving legend Joe Ingles. Hes gotta be like what Nax Reid is to the Wolves now right?
Gobert getting his jersey retired? Man man man no way he deserves to be up there with stockton.
3 DPOYs, 3 All Star games. 6 straight playoff appearances, and future Hall of Famer. Rudy is getting his jersey retired in Utah, guaranteed
I honestly think some people just throw their brains in the bin when Rudy gets brought up. The weirdest and most irrational hatred lol
That’s an impressive resume but even outside of it- as someone whose favorite team retired Nick Collison’s jersey- fans of other teams oftentimes have no idea the impact some players make, and the significance they have for the fanbase. Rudy absolutely should have his jersey retired.
Rudy is my absolute favorite jazzman of my entire life. I know many other people feel the same way, he was an absolutely iconic member of the team. He’s in the rafters
Also played there for 9 seasons. Rudy’s Jazz resume would get his jersey retired basically anywhere besides the Lakers and Celtics.
I think a multi DPOY winner gets their jersey in the rafters for the Celtics and Lakers, too.
A quick look on statmuse shows that 10 players have won multiple DPOYs, and I looked and found that only 3 do not have their number retired by the team that they won multiple DPOYs on. Those are Gobert, Kawhi, and Dwight Howard. I think it’s safe to say that all three will get their numbers retired and that a multiple time DPOY winner not getting their number retired in the future would be a serious anomaly
What else could he have done. You can’t only retire players with a ring when your franchise has 0 championships
Shush
Oh wow not John Stockton
a reminder Tone and Phil Leotardo had friendly exchanges.
Who’s Tony B in this context?
Conley
No more Butchie, no more of this.
Just a friend checking on a friend.
I miss this duo. Fun Jazz times.
2020 Jazz vs Nuggets.
Murray vs Mitchell shan’t be forgotten.

It’s like seeing an ex after a few years and being reminded of the fact that you did have a lot of good memories and just want to check in on how you’re doing… Encourage each other a bit… Just wholesome…
Now if Westbrook had the same conversation with KD and KD gave tips to Russ to shoot it more coz he’s still got it, and Russ telling KD he should drive more coz he’s still got hops… now THAT would be an amazing conversation to listen to :-)
#timehealsallthings
this is actually clean af. can’t believe you’re gettin downvoted. cleannn
Utah had a good team
So refreshing to hear supportive opponents
Gobert can then ask him about why his blocking technique isn’t better and give him a few tips
I mean they were teammates for years in Utah
That’s dope.
Wholesome
Tell me more about “unsalvageable”
I really love how Rudy’s offense has actually evolved this late in his career. Sure that airball floated was ghastly bad but game recognize game and im glad these 2 had a nice moment after the fact
Late career development is a rare intangible
I love when he says “floater”.
LMAO Mitch was getting in his shit and I don’t think Rudy realized lol
Hehe they’re buddies. 😆🤷🏽♂️
I bet Rudy is fine in small doses
Really cool to see this moment with them.

Fuck Ryan Smith
