[Highlight] Jason Kidd takes a timeout to challenge the goaltending on the play prior, but Scott Foster does not grant him the coach’s challenge, and after exchanged between the two Kidd is being EJECTED early in the game
Is it even legal for a ref to unilaterally reject a challenge request?
No, but he claims that he didn’t hear the TO call and the challenge even though Jkidd was yelling at the other refs about it. The dispute was they couldn’t figure out when the TO was called and obv Scott Foster gets the final say between the 3 refs.
God. If only we had a camera pointing at the Mavs bench to determine if the TO happened before Scott gave him the ball. Almost like the letting the refs review things before they made a decision. Sucks the NBA doesn’t have the money to put more than one camera in the stadium
I’ve always said the coach should have like a timeout button, I can’t tell you how many times Joe had to run out to half court to get the attention of a ref call the time out.
That’s actually a great idea. Never thought of that before and would be extremely easy to implement. Could use something like that in tons of sports too.
Shit just install it on the scores table. Or just start bringing an air horn.
Please let it be an air horn.
Some coach will get ejected for blowing it in a refs ear.
They’re already blind, no need to deafen them too
omg brah, so on point lmao
Man, fuck that coach, I didn’t let him back in the building after that day!
It’s gotta be the dj air horn
Shit install it in the floor so they can jump up and down on it
Or one of those horns from the cars in the 1920s. Great idear I love it.
The timeout sound is actually just a horn version of La cucaracha
AWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOGAAAA
But then how would the nba rig games?
What if the button activates a shock collar on refs to really get their attention?
Hasan is that you?
Can we just get a red flag like in the NFL? I want to see someone launch it across court.
Give refs go pros/body cams. Sell the rights to the highest TV partner bidder.
You’re welcome NBA.
Some hockey leagues the refs have cameras on their helmets. It can be pretty cool
So challenge for when the challenge was called. I like it lmao
Imagine that. Scott Foster making himself the center of attention again.
I’ve never seen Scott Foster and Adam Silver together in the same room
You got a source for that? Everything I’ve seen was he called a timeout after the inbounder received the ball…. Can’t challenge after that
Scott Foster gets the final say between the 3 refs because he’s the crew chief. Every game has a crew chief, and 99% of the time it’s the ref who has been in the league the longest.
Holy fuck…looking closely….mf actually looks like my manager. And needless to say, i hate my manager.
No it’s not at all.
Yes, when the challenge is made after the ball is in play on the next play, as it was here.
Except the ball wasn’t in play yet. His timeout was awarded by another ref before our player got the ball. They showed a split screen of it on the Mavs broadcast later in the game. So his challenge was legit and should have counted.
Nice try kiddo
Why is Scott Foster still employed? Oh that’s right he has shit on the league
What? There’s nothing wrong with Scott Foster calling Tim Donaghy hundreds of times, minutes before he had to ref games for conversations that lasted less than 2 mins. Doesn’t everyone call their colleagues before they start their shift? Nothing to see here, just a huge coincidence or they were lovers.
That whole documentary is a huge black eye on the league and I’m surprised it wasn’t a bigger deal when it came out.
What documentary?
Air Bud.
It’s been downhill since
The one I know of is this podcast: https://whistleblowerpod.com/ Don’t listen unless you want your view of the NBA changed, for the worse.
Could be Untold: Operation Flagrant Foul
Untold: Operation Flagrant Foul. It’s on Netflix if you care to watch
I think everyone already knows that there’s game fixing and horrible gambling conflicts of interest going on right now. Adam Silver is gonna wreck the entire league’s credibility just to increase profits during his tenure.
gonna?
Did you know he also placed hundreds of calls to other refs in the league? The only refs at the time also placed hundreds of calls to each other. Do you know something the FBI doesn’t, or was the FBI just protecting Scott Foster?
Because he gambles and bets on games.
Dude is dirty and rigs games. The NBA is complicit and an unserious league.
It’s black and white. But the NBA has so many dirty refs and backdoor “illegal” deals they’re scared to fire him due to the fallout.
At least the other leagues do a better job at hiding it
I don’t get how other sports seem to have their act together so much more. Maybe I’m just biased for mostly watching the NBA but even watching Bears game tonight it’s like oh yeah Packers made a challenge that was upheld they get to keep their challenge what a novel concept.
I don’t remember the challenge in the game because I was at work and watching sparingly, but you get 2 challenges in the NFL and are granted a 3rd if the first 2 are correct.
That changed recently; now you only need to get one challenge correct to get a third.
You are definitely biased. If you go to NFL’s sub, you’ll see them saying they have the worst refs in sports. If you go to the soccer sub, you’ll see them saying they have the worst refs in sports. Maybe only NHL fans don’t think they have horrible refs, but idk, I don’t really follow NHL. Every sport has a major reffing problem, and it’s also because we have great quality picture and slow motion replays of every situation so we can easily spot all of the mistakes they make.
Well what other sport has refs accounted for 10-20% of a game’s final point total?
That’s a huge swing depending on the refs- way different than say missing blown calls on 3rd down.
I mean if anything it’s much larger in say soccer, where teams usually score 1-2 goals a game at best, and if the ref gives you a soft penalty or denies you a stonewall penalty, then that’s a huge swing in the game. Same in the NFL where the soft pass interference calls at the end of games can directly decide a game, or uncalled pass interference calls can decide a game.
Also making a teams best player have to leave the game because of fouling out. The yellow/red card system of soccer is not the same, it is more that techs and F1s are combined into yellow cards and F2s are red cards.
literally every fan of a major sport says their refs are the worst. you’re biased because you watch the nba mainly.
yall can downvote me but it’s true, NFL fans will say their refs are bad cause they don’t know what a catch is, MLB fans complain that umps can’t be accurate with their strike zones.
I mean that, but it’s no way this man doesn’t also have shit that can break the league apart with how many scandals this man has had over the course of his officiating career, especially the CP3 one and still being employed
The NFL does not hide it better 😂
The non conspiracy answer is that he’s in a union
Because he would destroy the NBA with his revelation of gambling
he has dirt against NBA. that gambling scandal is so sus only Tim taking the fall even though they are in contact for numerous times in a day
Wait, this is THAT Scott Foster? How’s he still in the league?
Union
I look forward to his retirement gig as a consultant for draft kings
He is walking proof that the rules don’t apply to everyone. Even the look of impropriety should be enough to get his ass out of there.
What does he have on the league?
Incontrovertible proof!
Idk if this is cope but
That’s… a bad look. Yikes.
C’mon now, it’s unfair to Scott Foster to imply repeated and consistently occurring coincidences that you would expect to see from someone rigging games means anything. He was just talking to his bro and giving him a pep talk.
Scott Foster is the most corrupt, petty, selfish ref in the league. He alone makes the NBA refs go from bad to outright malicious due to the lack of discipline for his constant corruption and ego.
Tony Brothers too
Tony Brothers is worse for sure
Tony Brothers wasn’t calling Donaghy 200 times on days he was about to ref
All of them?
Yea both Mike and Dan
Tony Brothers is an absolute bum
Obligatory fuck Joey Crawford. Never forget was a piece of shit he was.
[changes into my official Scott Foster signed and authenticated ref uniform]
Oh, yeah, baby! This is why I NBA!
Well he did give y’all 2018*
lol how r u a rockets fan and u get the year incorrect? It was 2018, not 2017
Fuck man Idk why i always view the season as the beginning lol
Every time I see a salty rocket fan I suck that shit up and become stronger.
Scott Foster is the most corrupt cheating ass ref in the history of the league and he has never been investigated. He should have gone down with the other guy that got in trouble for gambling on the games back in the day.
You mean the guy who called Foster and spoke with him for like 30 seconds after every game that he officiated?
Yeah that guy. Tim Donaghy.
Scott Foster is one of the extremely few things that everyone in or watching the NBA has unanimous opinions about, yet he’s still employed.
Crazy stuff.
We enjoy FosterBall! There are dozens of us! Maybe…
Log off, Scott
Sorry gotta go assert my authoritah!
Foster is a huge part of the reason OKC won the finals last year
Game 4.
Scott Foster tore Haliburton’s Achilles?
Reached right down with a butcher cleaver and hacked it off. It was brutal.
But really tho, he fucked us in game 4 and we could have won that finals match up.
Haliburton would never have gotten hurt if Foster didn’t give OKC Game 4 🙄
Yes he grabbed halis acl and bit right through it
People in the front row should start wearing ref jerseys and cheering wildly at bad calls.
how the hell are you ejecting someone because you made a mistake? like surely someone can intervene in this situation right? what a shitty product has NBA become
Tbf, this is the only NBA I know.
MLB style
Scott “Draft Kings” Foster
Wasn’t it just last night Memphis tried to challenge an obvious block that was ruled a goal tend but they didn’t let them do it?
refs are so quick to inbound after goaltends, it feels impossible to challenge sometimes
That was because the Grizz called a timeout first, then they wanted to challenge. Doing so would make them have to use a risk a second timeout, so they decided not to challenge. So they should have just called the challenge first.
Idk about this game though. Could have been the same thing but from what I’ve seen it seems different.
I know everyone complains about refs and officiating in the NBA every year, but this year has been different. It’s non stop, and its also like different teams are playing in different leagues governed by different rules.
It’s unacceptable in an age where technology and manpower can make this a non issue. And if they allowed defenders to defend without free-throws being called, thered be broadcast time to get these calls reviewed and right.
I see this comment every year lol
Refs doubling down on being wrong. When will the league stop letting this shit happen
Scott Foster is one of the reasons why people dont like the NBA product and aids to the idea that its rigged. Why is he still even a ref in this league, he was absolutely tied to Tim Donaughy and has vendettas against players. He’s too biased to be a trustworthy ref in the league.
Someone needs to tell Scott Foster that: 1. Chris Paul doesn’t pay for the Mavs, abd 2. Jason Kidd isn’t Chris Paul.
Wild that CP3s playoff record is 76-73 and when Scott foster is reffing, it’s 3-17.
The NBA doesn’t care about the integrity of their game. Scott Foster should’ve been fired a long time ago.
Scott Foster doing Scott Foster things… Adam Silver approved™ 😭
How can you grant the timeout but not the challenge? Makes no sense
I mean, if we wanna affect change we could boycott NBA games and sign a petition to get Foster fired. Anyone wanna take the lead?
I know someone who would love to see Scott Foster gone. And the guy I know is not that busy at the moment too.
I would sign the petition on behalf of my entire family tree. Might seem crazy, but with how much NBA media takes from reddit, one post with a petition might be enough.
Can we get a “duck Scott foster” chant in every game he ref, sorry for the typo
Scott Foster needs to lose his job. Period. Worst ref in sports.
Known diva refs is insane.
Adam Silver has a lot to answer for.
How does he keep getting away with blatant tampering in almost every game he officiates?
People should just boycott and ask for a refund everytime scott foster is going to ref a game.
Fuck Scott Foster and the NBa
stopped being a captain, it is so bad lmao. Better entertainment out there than this rigged product.
The officiating is killing the nba
Scott Foster makes basketball worse
Vogel should have challenged if Scott Foster had handed the ball to the Mavs player before or after Kidd called timeout
Yeah I might actually be done watching sports.
Even though I hate Kidd, he was clearly right here. And I really HATE Scott Foster.
You lost me at Scott Foster…
The refs are gambling, it’s more blatant now more than ever. Fed’s soon expose them.
Uhhh… the Feds are doing other ‘things’
Scott Foster is such a douche
Wow, this might be the first time I’ve seen Kidd show emotion as a coach. Foster truly is special.
scott is garbage. hate the refs / umps messing up the game.
I honestly hope somebody ejects Scott Foster from his own retirement party and enforces it
NBA refs have been terrible for the last decade. Not sure why, but something needs to change.
How does Scott foster still have a job?
As a Pacers fan I hate Fisher…..
How the fuck is Scott Foster still a ref? The NBA is a legit joke.
Why even grant the timeout then? Wtf
Of fucking course it’s Scott Foster
Fuck Scott Foster to the end of his days
Why not just implement a button that the coach can press to identify he wants to take a time out/challenge. If the light goes on before play resumes (easily verifiable) then they can review and grant the timeout
Scott Foster is such trash. Cant stand that MFer. He always needs to be the main f**king character.
It was a shit call to start with. You need to give the coach the benefit of the doubt to TRY AND GET THE CALL RIGHT.
Trash ref, trash league.
you know Scott kept msgs from other big honchos asking for tips and how some games would go
He must be in the mafia because the fact he still a ref is wild. Cheated in broad day. Billions on the line tho.
look at the refs man
What does it mean to not grant the challenge?
They are saying the ball was inbounded before the timeout was called. That would make the window for a challenge closed.
At this point, Foster should start appearing in Draft Kings commercials.
may i have one of those madam
Refs can deny challenges now?
It’s Foster. It’s not about what other refs can do it’s about what he can do.
Feels like this call is on Simone Jelks, why did she wait so long to grant Kidd’s TO?
Silly
Scott Foster should be investigated.
Foster is a crook and a mob plant.
He needs to pay a fine and be suspended without pay just like the league does to coaches and players. He obviously has dirt on the league because there is no way they should still employ him
The NBA is a joke until they actually fix officiating. It’s the only major sport where fans probably know the referees more than half of the players because of how notoriously corrupt and inept they are.
Reminder that Scott Foster is a fuckin rat who was in deep with Donaghy until the day he went down for gambling.
Seeing Vogel on the bench gave me PTSD… And flashes of the Big 3 … ( though his iteration was better than the monstrosity of whatever it was that happened last season with Bud… Thank God for Jordan Ott!)
Why hasn’t people sent love letters to Scott Foster?
[ Removed by Reddit ]
Seems like Scott found a way to make JKidd look like the bad guy.. smh
At least he got to miss the rest of that dogshit game
It’s so early in the game Kidd should have just moved on. Bad timeout and challenge attempt.
Even tho Kidd was right. I hate seeing challenges used in the 1st half lol
Scotty doesn’t know.
I was one of like 25 chicagoans at the game. That was a Scott Foster ass game. He obviously told his team not to call shit because he wanted to go home and they especially didn’t call anything against Dallas after this.
Scott foster is genuinely a terrible human being on and off the court
Foster probably had a bet that there would be no challenges overturned and that was obviously going to be, so he just ignored it.
The NBA refs have truly made the game about them and it makes watching the actual game unbearable. If they’re tired of being verbally abused, maybe they could do their jobs well and fair and then they would have a soapbox to stand on, but that hasn’t been what I’ve been seeing. They’re abusing their power as referees and the players/coaches have every right to be pissed about it. The owners should also be pissed because it’s affecting their teams. At what point does the NBA get a clean slate of new refs?
The league wonders why it’s constantly being accused of being rigged meanwhile as fans we gotta watch this type of shit😂🤣🤦🏻🤦🏻
Scott Foster is an asshole
Well it’s not challengable until the last two minutes of the game. We all learned this from Kerr’s ejection on a call that was incorrectly called in the opposite direction last week.
Which is fine if they treat obvious missed goal tend calls the same way they adjust 3s to 2s half a quarter later.
Steve Kerr: Welcome to the club Jason.
I feel like goaltends should just be automatic reviews, they got their AI shit to look at it.
when will we shoot scott foster into the sun
And the cherry on top is that Kidd was right to challenge it - it was clearly a block. But yeah let’s kick him out and throw our weight around becuase he’s better at our job than we are 🤦🏾♂️
during their exchange, kidd told him “you cheated the pacers all the way throughout the finals last year” LMFAO
People on this sub are so stupid bruh, they will say fire foster then just hate the next ref next in line
Just remember warrior dynasty had this guy in their back pocket. Not just 2018
You cant blame 27 missed threes on the ref.
I fully support this. In a case where it’s glaringly obvious… don’t waste our time with reviews.
This was obviously not a goal tend though…?
I didn’t say it was I said I support it when it’s glaringly obvious. Fuckin people look to argue.
The call on the court wasn’t overturned so what exactly are you supporting…?
Foster trying to save Kidd from a stupid challenge. Even though he’s right. Its not worth using a challenge 1 qtr
I think you’re seeing it wrong. The defender hits the ball twice. The second time, it bounces in a way that makes it look like a goal tend, but it’s pretty clear that he gets his hand on the ball before it originally makes contact with the backboard.
I know what happened. I don’t think you should ever waste a challenge on it
If it’s successful, they keep their timeout and get another challenge. Why is that a problem waste?
Halfway through the 1st quarter challenge is not going to affect the outcome of the game. Best to at least save both challenges for the 2nd half
Ref made the right call. Hit the rim first actually.
Look, Scott Foster sucks and the call was wrong.
BUT, do I want to have the game stopped half way through the first quarter to cut to a commercial break so the refs can spend over 5 minutes to tell us they were wrong and award Dallas 2 points? Absolutely not. People need to accept that refs are human and will make mistakes and need to move on with the wrong calls. It’s part of the game and life.
The coaches challenge needs to go.
