I think Danny tried to Ainge too hard, and he wanted to sell but he was asking for the moon, and so he still has his goods.

Lauri doesn’t fit this cause he turned into a bonafide all star. OKC would’ve kept that around too. 

Collins had no value. Overpaid and horrendous defensively. 

It’s hard to move a player that don’t want to move, that is happy to be in Utah when you’re a team like Utah, that is young and fit the timeline; especially when you don’t get fair value in a trade.

In fact, they did flip Collins.

As much as I like Markkanen it’s obvious his timeline doesn’t match up with Utah’s future window to compete.

He’s wasting his prime on a team that’s terrible when he could’ve netted us a couple going players and picks.

I don’t necessarily want him gone, but he definitely should be moved for both his future and the Jazz.

Whether they should’ve traded him or not, it’s hard to argue with the Markkanen result.

Tbh Utah has a nice 2 man game between Lauri and Key, they probably think Lauri is their Costco version of what SGA was to the thunder or smth

You’re almost guaranteed that like 4-5 teams start tanking on any given season. GSW will be a premier destination given their location, new-ish stadium, and recent rings.

You never know, it’s definitely feasible for them to be totally mediocre enough to not be amazing picks. But to your point, they’re good picks to bet on.

I agree but if you have Steph on there, then you also deal with Dray. Which is basically ⁸⁵⁄₂₀₅ mil of what you’re trying to do before he retires. There’s also Jimmy’s 54mil. MPJ’s contract even ends the same time as them, so it will be giving up future picks for a rental situation.

Having 3 guys expire the same time is going to be one of those “Back to square 1” situations that the league was back in 2010 on Lebrons “Decision” where 5-6 teams had literally empty rosters to try and sign him.

They would have to do some crazy AD dump like the Lakers did to basically start shaping their future after Lebron’s 52mil.

Wasn’t Jerry West a big part of the warriors drafting the dynasty trio? Since West is obviously gone, I’d imagine their drafting suffered due to that

We missed on wiseman, kuminga has been underwhelming for a 7th, other than that been pretty solid.

Or we can go the okc route and find a way to horde draft picks for 5+ years after curry retires. You’ll probably hit on something eventually with a ton of draft picks.

We went from the 12th seed to winning the chip in 3 years, a lot can change fast. I know our FO has made some blunders recently but I still trust their competence is greater then that of the Bulls

I’m pretty sure we just don’t control our pick for 2027 which is supposed to be a god awful draft. So think it’ll be more for post Steph or Giannis picks than anything

Nets have their 26, which is why many are advocating for the tank into Top 3. 27 draft? They better fight for a playoff spot or play-in.

The nuggets had to attach an unprotected pick in 2032 and take on a far worse player to move him.

I think it’s more of a lock that other teams are trying rather then the Nets

MPJ has been having a great season and he makes the game so much easier for his teammates

While his contract is large it’s not an issue for the Nets who are flirting with the salary floor

And while he’s been winning us a lot of games, worst comes to worst the Nets can just bench him a ton and eat fines

There’s way more urgency for other teams to acquire MPJ rather then the other way around

The package for him that Utah wanted was Wiggins, Moody, Podz, JK, and lots of picks. We can’t really match his contract anymore without trading Jimmy/Dray. Porter just takes JK, Buddy, and Moody with Moody being the only one who still plays.

I think Jazz like Lauri because they see him as their franchise cornerstone and he actually wants to stay which is rare for them. Brooklyn doesn’t have to worry about that as much

Lauri makes too much money, they’d have to trade Draymond or Jimmy. MPJ makes less and fits pretty neatly into the salaries of the guys on the roster who aren’t playing.

MPJ has been better offensively in almost all advanced metrics (databallr, nbarapm has a lot of statistics showing so) and in impact + counting too. If they keep Draymond and Jimmy they might as well acquire Mike and not worry about the defense too much

Yeah the 6’10” movement shooter isn’t contextual. His production has been higher bc of context, but it’s not gonna go down to Denver levels for the Warriors because they actually need him to shoot close to this much

MPJ is averaging 27-8-4 on 50/40/80. The nets are 13 points better with him playing. They go from a -13 net rating (would be one of the worst teams ever) with him off the court to about even with him on the court.

He is top 25 alive

Nets could just say MPJ has knee soreness and sit him after the all star break like the jazz have been doing with their entire roster for the past three years or whatever

his rebounding has always been solid. by no means a great rim protector but he can pull in boards which GSW absolutely needs

His also averaging 8 rebounds which we definitely need, he just seems like a perfect fit in every possible way
