IMO grizzlies kinda have handled their assets terribly. They traded a pick to get smart for reasons I cannot comprehend, then traded a pick to get rid of smart to clear room for jjj, then traded away bane for picks but didn’t replace him (a rebuilding move?) to get even more cap space for jjj, only for jjj to not be worth it, and now are trading ja after another crash out and also playing badly. If they’re gonna rebuild should have sent morant out over the summer when he had theoretical value. Now he’s got no value because he has more issues and is also hurt more and can’t shoot. Jjj is on an over pay and isn’t playing up to it, they’ve got a lot of Orlando picks but don’t seem to want to spend them except to move up in a draft but not move to star level just go from like 15 to 10. Such a good scouting and player development team but the asset management and long term planning is questionable.

It should honestly be worse than the Trae package with how awful he’s been this year, his injury issues, and just his general decline the past couple years.

Yeah, he’s been bad. And the Grizzlies have been significantly worse with him on the court. Ja’s on/off each year of his career:

• 19-20: +1.8
• 20-21: +5.2
• 21-22: -3.2
• 22-23: +5.2
• 23-24: +11.1
• 24-25: +2.6
• 25-26: -7.9

Stems from a few things:

1. He got scared to drive because of injury issues and lack of foul calls when he does drive. Started spamming 3s without taking the time to actually fix his shot. 
2. Injury issues to him and the rest of our team. When he does drive, he relies on having a big center to screen for him and he and Edey have only been healthy for 6 minutes together this season.  
3. The first 10-12 games of the season, before Ja got hurt, our other players could not make 3s to save their lives. Teams were leaving them wide open and clogging the paint. No easy shots for Ja inside the 3pt line.

I feel like we’ve seen the best that Trae and ja can do and there’s questions if they can ever do it again. And in ja’s case his best was unimpressive in the post season. Lamelo has a lot of hypothetical value ie we haven’t see him on a team capable of a playoff run so we don’t know as much about him.
