Trae Young finds out he’s been traded and heads back to the locker room:
Mid game is also crazy
Like Barnes from Mavs to Kings in the same game
That one was the craziest because he was actually playing that game.
That clip of him on the bench is the funniest thing
Anyone have it?
Here, initially when I read the first comment I thought he was traded to the kings while playing against them? That’s why I had to look it up.
“This is being reported, folks, by bleacher report, reportedly… Reportedly.”
“He’s just standing there… reportedly.”
“Now folks, here’s a report from Reporters Reporting, where, reportedly, there will be a report to report.”
Yes
Did he have to play the rest of the game?
No but he chose to stay on the bench with the team for the rest of the game. I believe he found out at the end of the 3rd and was on the bench the whole 4th.
He was told before the game that he might get traded and still decided to play.
Barnes was probably not happy to not finish the game. He hasn’t missed a game since early Dec 2021.
Such a steady hand, perfect 7⁄10 player.
5⁄7 🤦♂️
It’s an older reference but it checks out.
A real Batum
No way I’m passing up the chance to go sit on the other bench and pretend like it’s normal
Westminster parliament style.
In the same game?
Like they were playing the Kings and he got traded to them mid game?
Edit: Mavs were playing the Hornets when the trade was announced.
That would be cool to see him suit up in his new uniform, just some random name and number on the back since his actual jersey wouldn’t be ready yet… And then best his former team
Coffee Black did it during the Flint Michigan Mega Bowl.
He put on a hell of a show with Jackie Moon
It’s against the rules. The league has to approve the trade, there has to be physicals, and rosters get locked in before playing starts so a player can’t just join a team mid game. It would be really funny though.
In 1978-79, Eric Money scored points for both the Nets and the 76ers in the same game. Because of a refereeing error, the NBA ordered that the third and fourth quarters be replayed several months after it had occurred. He had been traded between the two teams in the interim, and as such played for both.
That crazy. I can’t imagine today’s league ever allowing half a game to be played later. I wonder if the tickets for that half game were half off
Last time it happened was 2007. Lol was extra unique because they replayed the game because the scorekeeper incorrectly gave Shaq six fouls when he only had 5. So they were to replay the final 50 seconds of the game before the next game against each other the only thing was…Shaq had been traded to the Suns by then and didn’t play in the 50 seconds that only happened because of him
in baseball this happened last year. a game got postponed due to rain and one of the guys got traded to the other team before they resumed. he was actually batting when they stopped the game and was put in as catcher for his new team when they restarted, so in the box score it looks like he was subbed out for one team and subbed in for the other at the same time.
BTW - Mavs were playing the Hornets when Barnes got traded to the Kings.
Yeah I just went to look too and was thoroughly disappointed they weren’t playing each other.
I’d have legit gone to the other bench after the 3rd just for the giggles.
Was that the one where they were playing each other at the time? Or am I thinking of a different one?
Almost as crazy as dribbling to the court, finding out he isn’t playing, and then dribbling out of the court………….okay not really
This happens a lot in baseball
I remember the Jays traded for Dominguez and in the same day he played the game against his former team
MLB has a lot more players and a bigger season
MLB gets a 26 man roster vs 15 in the NBA… that’s 57% more players…
MLB has a 162 game season vs NBA’s 82 games. Nearly double the games.
Both sports season is about 7 months long
More players playing more games means more trading opportunities with less time between games.
They play so many games, it’s ridiculous. Can’t avoid it.
Mid game is insane actually.
Like we knew it was coming.
But they could’ve waited just a lil bit lol
They just want to avoid getting injured and ruining the trade
What? Does the NBA not do #HugWatch?
I was gonna say it does happen in mlb. Hug watch happens a lot right before the deadline
It was kinda nice watching him from the bench this game, everyone knew he was gone but he was still on his feet cheering on the team and arguing foul calls
He has some dumb antics for sure, but he genuinely does seem like a nice guy.
I was hanging out with him last season drinking until 3am. He dropped 37 the next night
That’s pretty cool
[removed]
Idk what to do with any of this info but thank you for sharing.
I pissed next to him in a Denny’s in California. A few drops from him splashed by my feet. I made a joke about making it rain and he chuckled. Asked him what he ordered and he said ham stack, extra ham. Good guy.
I once took a shit in the stall next to him a couple years ago in Philly. I told him the burger I had just ran right through me. He just laughed and slid a roll of toilet paper under the stall. Good, humble dude.
Glad he could spare a square
Bro spared the whole roll. Shit must’ve sounded diabolical
I sat next to him at the movies a year or so ago. He told me he thought it was cute that I put raisinets in my popcorn and asked if I wanted to share a blanket that he had brought with him. Just all around great dude.
r/nbacirclejerk is that way.
How you forget to say thank you, you deserved the mumble!
Stay humble, or get the mumble.
Nah the forgetting to say thank you deserved the mumble
Very cool guy. Was giving everyone 1942 and champagne like it was water.
Lucky for DC fans there’s no good nightlife in DC
Coming from a Pacers fan that’s rich. 😂
Indianapolis is known as the Vegas of the Midwest of course.
Some guys play the best the day after. I used to hang out with hedo turkglu & he would be out drinking & smoking then drop 3s like it’s nothing.
How do u hang w all these hoopers
Damn, didn’t realize they drive all the way to Bloomington before games
Sure thing
I want to see him have a career resurgence, people turned on him too quickly
Guys who aren’t interested in defense AND small need to be stupidly good to make it successful
Issue isn’t being a bad defender, but you cannot be a bad effort defender.
[deleted]
We dont know what thats insinuating
lol right that was just a complete waste of everyone’s time.
It’s like when you see your waiter bringing food but they walk right past your ass.
What restaurants don’t want you to know, is they gotta give you any food you touch. Waiter gets close enough, you’re a hand talker and bam hand in spaghetti and your food has arrived.
restaurants HATE this one weird trick
Fuckin rofl
Bro just wanted to say I know that guy
You didn’t know him in high school or college? I thought everyone did
Feel free to elaborate on that
Mostly he just wants to play ball and hang with his family. Has good relationships with basically everyone.
He loves to play the villain on the court. He’s talked about how much fun it is for him, but off the court all indications are that he’s a nice dude.
He really is a great dude. If i recall he bought millions of dollars worth of peoples’ medical debt in his area from debt collectors and then forgave it all. Truly a class act with a real sense of humanity
“Dumb antics”😂😂😂😂😂
I feel bad for everyone involved
I’m devastated bro idc Ima miss him
no matter what the situation is , he will always be arguing with a ref 😂
Disgusting end for our only franchise star this decade
We felt the same way when Wall was traded.
Wall is still a hero in DC
It was wild when DC was cheering for him when he came back as a Clipper that one game saying “this still my city”
And the crowd went bonkers.
John Wall is a DC hero
fr. people talk about playoff success and chips make you a franchise hero, but sometimes, embracing the city the way JW did is enough.
He was so much fun to watch day in and day out, I miss that man.
Still my favorite player. Wizards goat
I wish I had 2k14 still so I could run it back one more time
2k now has NBA eras which is a awesome mode, you can go back and manage Wizards in the Kobe Era. Just wait till the game is like $10 though. This years its an arcadey shooters game.
Yup. Embiid will be a legend forever in a way Simmons won’t be even though they essentially achieved the same amount of winning success with the team.
Lots of the early 2010 Flyers are going to be forever loved too even though they never really accomplished anything.
Man, I can’t wait for the public sentiment on Embiid to shift from trolling the guy to respecting what he did for the time he did it. It seems like it already is with how rough it’s been this year. Even as a Nuggets fan lol.
(no one check my comment history from literally 10 hours ago lmfao)
Even if Dirk never got us a championship, he would have still been the heart and soul of Dallas.
For anyone who didn’t see it.
Wall (on the Clippers no less with a broken down body) hit a classic Wall move.
He celebrated and screamed “THIS IS STILL MY CITY” and he got a standing ovation. John bled his heart and soul for DC and still does to this day.
No one will say a bad word about him. A huge heart and an even better human being.
He gave 9 years to the city.
His clutch shot against Boston in that amazing series will never be forgotten.
I still laugh at the story a redditor told about going clubbing right after a Wizards game and John Wall beat him to the club lol
Everybody do the John 💪Wall
I feel actual pain in my chest man 😭 thought he’d be a hawk forever and it all ends like this just whimpers out not even 10 games played this season and salary fucking dumped. I’m actually gonna cry if I keep seeing more of these posts
He’s the dude that got me into watching the NBA actual. Watched him in college as a kid then he joined the wizards so I loved em. Moved to DC in 2016 and was enamored
Teach me how to dougie 😔
One of the most iconic clips. Bro is smooth with it.
On his NBA debut no less
How do y’all feel about Beal, as a fanbase?
He was a great second option to John and when he was the first option he was one of the best scorers in the league. He gets a lot of hate from the fanbase for his contract but idk how you can hate a guy for taking as much money as possible
I like to think he was cool up until that contract. He was the Robin to John Wall’s Batman.
As Wall’s sidekick? Awesome
Once he and John had issues and John got booted that’s when things changed. Still feel dirty about it.
We were only ever going to go as far as we did with John. John getting seriously hurt right after he got the big contract was not his fault.
Brad never took the team anywhere as the leader unfortunately
I always thought he took the spotlight away from Wall’s accomplishments, his wife was a distraction and was completely overrated and overpaid. I was not a fan.
I will argue to the death prime Wall was the best two way point guard in the league, damn shame his body betrayed him smh
Imagine telling someone in 2019 or 2020 that both Trae and Luka are going to get traded in the middle of their primes for no draft picks
Luka got one first rounder I think
AD, Christie and a 2029 FRP
New TT, Shump and nets pick
Mavs gave the lakers a 2nd though.
Within a year of each other too
I don’t think so. He will always be an Atlanta legend and it was definitely mutual. He’s gonna get his bag now
The fact y’all only got McDonald’s and a bag of chips is insane
He has negative value they were lucky to have a taker
Agreed. This guy was ATL basketball for the past decade with incredible moments and gets traded mid game for a vet and a role player. That’s just sad, play the season out or trade for something real. Maybe I’m just a romantic
Wow Jeff Teague erasure
So weird when these happen during games
I dont even understand why it’s publicized when it’s in the middle of a game.
They don’t. Reporters like Shams aren’t working for the team, they’re working against each other to break it first.
Someone is leaking it.
Someone who doesn’t care about it being midgame. It’s not like the coach went to Shams about it..
Leaks are unavoidable. You might as well get in front of it.
24 hours in every single day and they choose the tiny little fraction of 2 hours hes on national television
For real, just do it at like idk maybe 2 pm or something? Give the guy some time to pack his shit lol.
Baseball is even wilder. Guys have been taken off the field mid-inning before
Could they not wait until the game had ended? Seems unnecessary to make him endure that lol
Head start to pack i imagine, wouldn’t wanna waste his time listening to one final locker room speech or something thinking it still mattered
Who is they? The Hawks didn’t announce it. And Shams isn’t going to sit on the news because he knows if he doesn’t tweet it someone else will.
Shams reporting tonight was the most egregious I’ve ever seen. It’s not that someone else will tweet it, it’s that he’s put himself up as even more shameless than Woj in parroting team press releases as reporting, so he gets to have the story. The team and agent work together with him to establish a first narrative that serves those 2 parties first, Shams & ESPN second, and the sports-watching audience third.
“Trae Young wanted to be in Washington” is just brutal
Doesn’t seem to matter.
i mean this whole sub knew he was gone monday. it was just a matter of when
It was announced at like the start of the 4th. I’d imagine Trae’s camp probably gave Shams the ok to break the news. He still stayed until about 1 minute left in the 4th while cheering on the team. Don’t think Trae felt awkward about it. Nothing but love.
I’m guessing the business people got all hot n bothered to sign the contracts so it didn’t full through or something
One day I hope to see an NBA starter traded mid-game just before halftime to a team they’re playing that night - and he comes out of the halftime break in the other team’s jersey wearing a random unused number with the name on the back taped out, and proceeds to play for that team. Bonus points if he comes out to some sort of WWE hype music and fireworks. Make it happen, NBA.
This happened in the mlb actually lol
No fuckin way really?
Happened in the middle of a double-header this season
Danny Jansen played for both the Red Sox and the blue jays in the same game due to a rain delay.
Wasn’t that in the middle of a double header?
I want to see this happen to Draymond when he’s already on one tech.
Shows up in the opposing huddle, “So what’s the game plan?”
Is this possible in an era of medical checks before trades are made official?
Coffee Black style!
This would be absolutely epic. 10⁄10 idea.
Wait after the game at least lol
He did. OP is making it seem like he left immediately but he said his goodbyes and was clapping people up way before he left
Announcement could have waited until after the game
There wasn’t an announcement.
Shams waits for no man
They just recorded a video midway through a guy leaving. That’s on people for assuming what OP was trying to insinuate
Less than 30 seconds left in the game. The next possession was them basically dribbling the clock out.
Oh and by the way, he wasn’t employed by either team on the court at that point.
This is like getting fired from Dominos after you delivered your pizza, because you got caught speeding by their gps trackers, and your boss got you a job with the local papa johns as a favor. What are u gonna sit there and finish ur shift as a gift to your coworkers and your boss for free??
Trae doesn’t deserve being traded mid game. What did he do to piss the Hawks FO?
Tbh he didn’t really have to do anything. These franchises view these players as assets to be exchanged between eachother just look at what the celtics, raptors, and mavericks did with Isaiah Thomas, Demar Derozan, and Luka.
Personally I never understood why people view KD as a snake for constantly switching teams. These franchise aren’t exactly loyal they will always make trades for the next best thing so why are we scrutinizing players for also taking an apathetic approach to their teams.
The worst part about KD was leaving to a team that beat him. When his own team was really close to winning that series. Oh yeah, that team also had the best regular season record of all time.
But what happens if the Warriors call the Thunder that summer and offer a godfather package for Durant? Thunder might say yes and just send him there. He wanted to go to the best basketball fit and had a chance to choose his path. From a fan standpoint it sucked but I don’t blame him for doing what he thought was best for himself, when teams have shown time and again they’ll do what’s best for their franchise.
KD is a snake and a cupcake
bus passenger, not driver
Don’t say that around EDP445 he might get a little too excited
Who is that?! It sounds like the killer robot from robocop lol
I know right. Even Jimmy wasn’t traded this way. He was given to a contending team (as he wished). Plus, his dignity still intact despite what happened between him and the Heat.
Altanta had the power to make this situation better for Trae but chose not to. I don’t know what their reason is but I don’t think it’s acceptable. Dude is the best thing that happened to them for the past couple of years.
To be fair supposedly the Wizards was his preferred destination.
That’s true though. Wiz is his preferred destination at least. Still could’ve done it after the game.
Bruh KD is a snake and a loser because of the team he decided to join and the context surrounding it. What even is this comparison?
Nobody gives a fuck when guys in FA choose to go to a team. We know that they get treated like assets so when FA comes around, yes of course its good for them to choose where to go. KD had literally 28 other options that wouldve resultes in a way different public response.
He asked to be traded and said he preferred Washington. His agents were for sure part of the whole process.
Harrison Barnes moment
Trae-ded just like that
Dad?
He said 🚶
It all started with the Luka trade, now just watch AD getting trade for a bench player and a second round pick.
Damn. Being traded to wizards is like a racehorse being sent to the farm.
Took ole yeller out back
Atlanta lame as hell for this
As a Jazz fan I forgot about this for a while, but I think a season or two ago he hit a game winner against us from like half court and then immediately shivered and waved at the crowd with these cheesy smile and it was legit one of my favorite times of the season because it was so cool
Last season and it was like 3⁄4 of the court. 😭😭
They traded him for a six pack of beer an it wasn’t even cold
“About time. Im about to get my blue crab eating on” -Trae probably
Dang this appearing atop my feed is how I’m finding out.
Why is this ever the way things are found out??
Poor guy. Going to the wizards is the worst. Plus he face some good years to the hawks and they’re like don’t let the door hit you…
“We’re sending you to the purgatory”
No biggie, he will get payed now and later. He will do the CJ “tons of stats on a bad team” thing
Does nba give out stipends for temporary housing for mid season trades?
In Sac, the players have a nice room at the hotel next to the arena that the team pays for until they find another place (some players just stay at the suites).
I don’t know if it’s true for all teams, but I assume it is something similar.
Trae makes 48 million dollars a year lol. He’s staying in the top floor of the Four Seasons until they get a condo bought.
The landscaping company?
What an absolute classless organization.
Thats just like me at my job “Alright guys my shift’s done, I’m going home” but unlike Trae, I get paid peanuts
Traded mid-game is wild
Trade Young
Watch him drop 28 points and 12 assists on the Wizards like a lollipop being dropped in a barber shop
tuff
I hate this :(
Wasn’t Harrison Barnes traded mid-game?
To the wizards for nothing. Gotta hurt.
Too the Wizards. Big oooff
This is the one time I need y’all to use that big red circle cuz wtf am I looking at
