Honestly most of those players did not play well last year. Jrue was injured and struggled all year. Porzinigis between all the injuries barely played and by the end was net negative. Horford wasn’t terrible but thought he started to look old. Actually the player I was most upset to lose was Kornet. Obviously Tatum being hurt is hard to overcome.

KP was hit with some mysterious bubonic plague type shit… he went from still looking like himself when playing w/ foot injuries thru February to a shell of a unicorn after contracting whatever he had. 31.6% / 15.4% / 69% in 11 playoff games for 7PPG from 48.3% / 41.2% / 81% in season for 19.5PPG. Defense non-existent too. Worst playoff performance for a Celt since Kyrie “I’ll guard Giannis while shooting 30% on 25 shots per game” vs the Bucks in ‘19.

It did feel like fatigue and injury caught up to them, which is unfortunate but how the game works. They got lucky during their championship run with injury luck (minus Porzingis but that was assumed going in), pendulum just swung in the opposite direction.

I was banging my “Queta is going to be a legit center” drum all off-season, after watching his growth through last year I was really confident he’d continue developing.

Garza has been an incredible surprise the last few weeks. Dude is the hardest worker every time he’s on the court, is a beast on the offensive glass, actually hitting what feels like all his 3s which is a dynamic we were lacking at the 5, AND he’s shown flashes of a really promising pick and roll game.

Thought the same but just checked. Oddly through November he was over 40% from 3PT and 13.6PPG. Most of December he slumped in % (under 30% 3PT and 11PPG) but came up clutch at times. Just past 4 games he’s been getting shot back, coinciding with minutes going back up. Noticeably more hustle on defense even if still dieing on screens etc.

Queta plays only about 25 minutes a game, and I think he’s a guy who scales best off that amount of minutes. I’m happy with him starting or coming off the bench. I don’t think he’s been so good you have to say no to a Zubac/Sharpe/Claxton.

Whether he’s a starter or off the bench doesn’t really matter. I think it’s more you want a 2nd starting caliber Center to play the 20-ish minutes a night Queta can’t play, whether that’s off the bench or as a starter. Kind of similar to what Kornet or Horford were the last couple of years.

Queta is averaging more points, more rebounds, and .5 less assists than 2021-22 Looney. Queta also has higher win shares, higher Vorp, and BPM than Looney did that year. Queta On/Off splits and defensive metrics also clear that of ²¹⁄₂₂ Looney.
