It actually does, since Aytons job is to consistently defend, rebound, AND finish.

If he’s not getting to the line, it means he’s not really finishing or putting back offensive rebounds. FTA is a measure of this.

Of course it does, but the issue remains. They paid Ayton more than he is worth. If given the choice of having good contracts on your roster or bad contracts, you always choose good contracts. They made a mistake.

He’s not on a one year deal, he has a 2nd year player option.

It doesn’t matter why they would want to trade him. There are a million different reasons to trade players, but having players who are on contracts more than they’re worth and being close to the apron makes it harder to get deals done.

If this were true then there would be no observable on/off rebounding effect, but the Lakers are worse this season at both offensive and defensive rebounding when Ayton is in the lineup vs when he is out of the lineup

Ya he’s been solid the lakers are asking too much from him of the defensive end which I think is sinking into other parts of his game. Really needs to raise his motor beyond how the game or other parts of the game is going.

I don’t think he’s being passive at all, this month teams just took away the pocket pass and the lakers are forcing the cross court pass and not making shots or teams are able to rotate and ends up with a forced shot

Yeah, he’s at worst a top 20 center, which is great for $8m, and a huge upgrade over the guys they had last year. Heck, he’s single handedly won them a couple games this year and had more double doubles in his first ten games than their previous center had in the past two seasons. The occasional stinkers suck, but aren’t something you’re going to worry about too much from your 4th option. He will probably never become a true star, but they don’t need him to be.
