Julian Champagnie is grabbed from his jersey, taken by BIsmack Biyombo to do the new Spurs tradition with the drum, after scoring a career-high 11 threes, setting also a franchise record
Biyombo dragging him to the drum like a proud big brother is the best thing I’ve seen all day. 😂
It’s the best thing I’ve seen all year tbh
Its 2026 already… shi
He also slaps tf out of Harper and Bryant all the time 😂
He really does treat these guys like little brothers lol
“But I don’t want to” when they’re telling him he has to killed me lol
Nah this is pure african uncle type shit haha
Biz is the man. Miss him dearly
Bro that moment feelin like pure vibes lowkey made my day fr fr
^this is a bot account btw. A bot was actually trained to speak like this. Jesus fucking christ man
Biyombo is pretty physical guy haha, before the game he was shaking Keldon Johnson to get him hyped up lol
That’s pretty much why the Spurs have him hahaha. Like literally. Before Spurs games, if you get a chance to watch the warm-ups you’ll see that his literal job is to just body check Victor. Just slam into him over and over again to get him ready and help him test his balance against the kind of contact he’s going to face in games. Dude’s just there to be jacked up physical big brother and I love it
There was also him lifting Dylan Harper by his jersey like a high school bully
Holy shit haha, the look on Harpers face when Biyombo gets him
He just needs one of those little Adebisi hats
how does he keep that thing on his head
Seeing him go from hesitant to excited as the crowd gets into rhythm is so wholesome
“Oh God I don’t want to do this am I gonna make an idiot of myself???”
“Actually that’s kinda cool…”
“CLAP FOR ME! CLAP MY SUBJECTS! MOVE TO MY RHYTHM FOR I AM THE DRUM GOD!”
Thank you for a hearty morning chuckle.
Wemby walking is a great sign right
His ligaments and tendons are basically rubber so he’s fine (citation needed).
Flexibility is career longevity but shh dont tell the sports medical community
There were people on /r/nba already saying his career was over and “I told you so”. GTFO!!!!!!
Victor D. Wembanyama
Captain Victor D. Wemby.
Real.
Cue the drums of liberation
Gumbercules, I love that guy!
Geosensation, User. “Wemby is bendy: An examination of Victor Wembanyama and his rubbery joints,” Journal of the American Nephew Association vol. 69, no. 1, 2026.
Yo ho ho he took a bite of gum-gum?????
[p. 19]
That’s good, but dude is on the ground way too much. Whenever I see him play he hits the floor like 15 times.
I really hope he stays healthy, because he is a cool dude and super fun to watch.
Considering San Antonio’s medical team literally is the type where. If you tell them you feel kind of sore from sleeping wrong, they immediately throw you on the injury list… List… Yeah it’s a very good sign. Can’t imagine they would have let him walk around if they thought there was any chance of a structural injury or a serious hyperextension
It’s going to be interesting to see what happens because Victor in the post game straight up said he felt fine and tried to check back in the game but wasn’t allowed. He said he plans on playing next game but that he can’t say what the medical team plans.
Not really, most people learn to do that before they turn two
dude learned what it’s like to be a performing musician. nervous as hell, had to be told to pace himself. crowd goes nuts regardless. all is good in the world
This is somewhat like the Light the Beam tradition of Sacramento Kings. Hope the Spurs have a deep playoff run.
I think what’s really cool about the beam is that the whole surrounding area can see it. On the flip side you could argue it’s kinda intrusive but as an NBA fan it’s cool that it’s basically a giant bat signal.
But any ritual that gets the team and fans in rhythm like this is awesome to see.
Too bad the Kings organization is so bad. Get to the playoffs for the first time in almost two decades, fire the coach and trade away your best player. SMH
I liked the beam celebration, especially when the crowd starts chanting it before the game is even done. Wish I could see it more.
I love the beam. Unique post game celebrations are cool.
Unique?
This is way lamer then that.
Nah the beam was more endearing and goofy. This is kinda lame ngl
This gets me hyped up everytime they do it. I like that it gets the crowd involved, feels more like how fans take pride in their clubs in other countries
It’s exactly what it is. Just a light the beam ripoff.
Having a celebration is not the same as shooting a laser into the sky lmao. If that’s a ripoff I’m going to consider every team that wears a black jersey instead of their original colors now ripping us off. (90% of the league)
Issa post-game celebration involving the crowd.
How long has SAS had this tradition?
The kings didn’t invent post game celebrations involving the crowd
They copied this directly from the Minnesota Vikings Skol Chant.
As a international soccer fan.. The Vikings stole it from the Iceland national team who went viral in 2016 after making a shocking run in the European championships. And even Iceland reportedly copied it from a couple of club teams that were already doing it
And that Iceland team probably stole it from someone else, everything is copy pasted.
Stole it from Leif Eriksson who used to do this after ransacking a village
Eriksson stole it from Genghis Khan after pillaging nomadic tribes
Man fuck Genghis Khan and his pussy ass tribes. All of my nomadic ancestors hated Genghis Khan
Patton Oswalt has a bit where he finds out he has Mongolian DNA and when he asks about it the response is “oh, yeah, Genghis Khan”
TIL Leif Erikson is a time traveler.
Yeah I mentioned that part. I can’t recall exactly the team that came forward and claimed to have been doing it before but there was some club where I guess it was a tradition for quite a while
We didn’t steal it. We literally asked them for permission and had them teach it to our fans.
Fair enough. I didn’t mean it as an insult. I think “ stealing” something like that which has roots going back even farther than Iceland isn’t something to be frowned upon since how really original is a coordinated clap? So even if you guys didn’t ask for permission, I wouldn’t think it was a negative thing.. That is cool to know though
They are called the Vikings. If they want to adopt their namesake chant, it is fair game. If they were called the Unicorns, maybe not, BUT THEY ARE CALLED THE VIKINGS FOR FUCKS SAKE.
As an international soccerfan, then you should know they met with the Vikings and gave them premission to use the chant in 2016.
Have the spurs done that?
Sorry master, I’ll be sure to ask permission to clap next time
I mean Vikings does line up with Iceland. The Spurs not so much. Minnesota has a massive Scandinavian population compared to other states, and a decent amount of Icelanders.
Honestly, it’s probably just because of Victor. He’s a huge soccer fan, so I’m sure he’s aware of the Iceland national team and their run. And he’s the one who introduced the new tradition in addition to creating a Spurs “ ultras” section. I love him trying to bring soccer culture to the US
Wemby is French, who was colonised by the Norwegians, who then turned into the Normans. Norway also colonised Iceland who are also considered vikings and made the chant. Normans then turned into the French, bred Wemby who then travelled to the US to play for the Spurs. There’s your Vikings -> Spurs connection.
It’s probably from Ronaldo’s siu which the Vikings took from another European team
Literally has nothing to do with the Siu celebration lol. It was inspired from the Iceland national team.
https://youtube.com/shorts/UBbV3XUC9YU?si=twE7D53Hs6tf6O2L
The Iceland national team popularized this chant like a decade ago.
Oh, Biyombo is not only still in the league but on the Spurs?
Anybody who was on that team deserves a chip just for not giving up.
BIYOMBO
BITCH, SIT DOWN
I know a fellow og nba streamer when I see one
If you are referring to the 2012 Bobcats team, there was another dude from that team that later played for the Spurs and in fact, was a major contributor to a title.
Boris Diaw?
The one and only. And that turned out pretty well for the Spurs. Alas, Bismack just doesn’t have the athleticism to help the team any more (on the court) but the roster they have has elite vibes, so he’s clearly contributing to that.
Looking back, the 2012 Bobcats wasn’t that untalented. They had many serviceable journeymen, some good role players, and even a future allstar.
Considering the points of their careers and guys like Diaw being 500 lbs I get why they were bad but 7 wins bad?
Him talking in the press interview about how nervous he was and how hell no he’s never doing that again cracked me up.
Guy can knock down 11 threes in an NBA game but gets too nervous to knock on a big drum
Lmao they peer pressured him
After the game he told reporters that he was terrified and will never do it again but was glad he did it once 😂
Knocked down double digit 3PM but cant beat a drum
Biyombo is such a bench vibe on the Spurs team.
I still remember him falling asleep from SGA’s aura
The vibes are immaculate
I’m happy teams are doing these little post game traditions now.
Kings really brought it back with the beam
Pistons players hand out a piston themed WWE belt in the locker room
Raptors got the chain
And Spurs playing the drum.
Good shit for team building, and ones like the beam and the drum are great for the fans in attendance too.
I don’t dislike fun. I don’t know how I feel about this thing though. It relies upon the team staying out on the court after the game. It is all a bit performative. The beam felt more organic even if it was equally contrived. Glad people are having fun with it, but also sort of glad that my team doesn’t do this stuff.
It is all a bit performative.
All sports are performative entertainment for the masses. Post game celebrations are just part of the experience.
It doesn’t feel authentic to me. People are into it though so whatever. All I am saying is that this wouldn’t feel like something I’d be into.
Who cares if it’s performative?
They’re just out there celebrating a victory and giving the people who paid money more to see and letting that audience enjoy it. Just builds more synergy between the team and the fans.
I like the connection that it builds with the fans. I just can’t imagine Tim Duncan doing this. It’s a bit goofy but it fits the enthusiasm of the team.
lol a happy bully, gotta love it
Never ever would have had Bismack being an all-time Spurs culture guy on my bingo card. Its always the guys you least expect.
Weirdly Gorgui Deng kinda had a vibes run on the tank team then joined the front office. While looking that up, I learned Darius Songaila is on the development staff.
The Spurs are just full of NBA surprises.
I see him at every game I’ve been to sitting in the GM’s box. Good to still have him around!
they are a cool team, gotta love them
I love how Champgnie is clearly a little out of his element to start, but then gets in the vibe once he feels the crowd energy.
He probably may not do it again, but way to end ‘25 with a bang!
Cheesy but I kind of like it. Also like how Wemby is trying to bring some football culture to America.
New Yorker torching the Knicks .
damn, bro was on a heater too. Sheesh. Undrafted? unreal.
Well, I like this fan interactive new tradition. Not a fan that it’s the same as what the Vikings do and those Spurs fans are not in rhythm yet (granted the drumming was kinda off which dictated the pace too.)
Love the vibes coming from this team
Spurs legend Bismack Biyombo
olynyk, barnes, and biyombo providing the veteran leadership not in my 2025 bingo card when the year started last year
Olynk probably thanks God everyday for the spurs helping him get off that abhorrent washington wizards franchise.
Good to see Vic looking ok after that injury
I really don’t get this new “tradition” from the spurs.
It is just the vikings skol chant. It is already another team’s thing and it has nothing to do with san antonio, the west, cowboys, etc.
There are all sorts of things you can do and they go with this one? Sorry but it is really lame.
After seeing how the community embraced the “light the beam” thing of sacramento, something new and unique would have been so much better. Things they could have done:
Bring a horse out after wins, having a player wear a cowboy hat and sit on the saddle
Give a player a western revolver cap gun to fire in the air, after which small fireworks/smoke machines/sparklers are set off
Have the drum be three hits followed by the crowd chanting their “go spurs go” motto, done a few times
Have the crowd coordinated to chant “yee haw” at the same time
Can go on and on. Just anything other than a vikings skol chant, I mean come on.
The Vikings didn’t invent shit.
source: old-ass Minnesotan that remembers when a car salesman from San Antonio (!) bought the team because Tom Clancy got divorced
Red McCombs. He was also the OG Spurs owner that originally put us on the map in the 80s.
Source: old ass San Antonian
The Viking didn’t invent the clapping. They took it from European soccer where it was popularized by the Iceland national team and their fans at the 2016 Euro cup, who themselves had been inspired by fans of a Scottish soccer club during a game against an Icelandic team in 2014.
The French national basketball team has been doing the clapping for years, including the drum after victories (using the drum from the official fan club that they carry to every game), and Wemby just imported it to the Spurs as part of the European fan atmosphere he’s been implementing this season.
And if we actually want to go the genesis of it, the clapping was invented in the 2000s by soccer fans of the Greek club of PAOK Thessaloniki and the Turkish club of Besiktas. Video here from 19 years ago.
So again, no, the Vikings did not invent anything and cannot claim that the clapping is “their thing”.
I love this team and Zenbanyama
The Neil Peart of the NBA!
This team is fun. Not only are they fun, they’re DAMN FUN.
not happy he did this to our team, but as a NYer I’m happy for him. Dude can ball.
Champ - But i dont want to. Im not doing it
KJ *points to scoreboard* - You have to do it
Vic *hands him the drumstick*
Biz *grabs jersey and shoves* - You’ve got this
I fucking love my team
God I can’t believe this season is 10 years since Biyombo was a Raptor. I guess he really was 23
getting scruffed like a cat!
Biyombo kinda looks like Shannon sharpe or am I bugging?
this is so lame.
vibes are absolutely immaculate. moments like these really reminds you that these guys are humans and are just as nervous as we are lol.
Champ brothers be ballin.
Cringey AF.
I like it. Drums got power.💯🏀🎵
Love Biyombo, from Memphis
This is how I find out Bismack is still in the league
These fucking post titles man
I love this team
Biyombo is the man
Best thing since the beam.

So original
No means no Bill Cosby
This tradition right here might just land them a ring this year
This is horrible
Lmao that shit weak
Everytime I see this, I’m reminded at how corny the spurs are.
They need something that relates to the spurs.
Like a “ye haw, ride a big lady” chant or something that is related to the San Antonio area.
In fairness the thing San Antonio is most well known for is the Alamo but reenacting that seems like a bit excessive as far as celebration go.
[deleted]
Who also stole it.
Who stole it from Iceland:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVq0MrmezpI
Still cringe they took the Vikings skol chant. the Icelandic soccer team gave us the chant. Look it up.
Lol, this drum thing is the most basic thing in Europe used by literally almost every soccer/football team.
It’s not original. European Teams are usually integrating far more chants, songs, music, rhythm stuff.
Especially in Football because it’s kind of boring… let’s be real 90 minutes of 22 dudes running around only to not score a goal and have game end 0:0. Well you better do something fun like drumming, singing, chanting and obviously drinking.
Any team can do this, it’s just up to Fans to engage in order for to be fun and not cringe.
spurs are a mini-okc…… Great group of fellas.
