[Highlight] Devin Booker is left with huge scratch on his right arm, bleeding, after missing a layup (with a replay). He also receives a technical for complaining
Again, how hard is it to do an MMA style nail check on every registered player as they get ready?
It would take a few minutes…
Honestly surprised this wasn’t negotiated by the players after the whole magic has aids scare.
NOBODY’S GOT AIDS!
Honestly Booker handled that way more calmly than I ever would. With a big ass cut, he showed such control, I don’t like Booker but I’m honestly impressed with his composure
I mean, it’s generally hard to notice a scratch while you’re playing. Like half the time there’s blood folks have to search for where it’s coming from.
you made me bleed and you’re wearing white? now you’re wearing my blood….if you’re getting the T anyway be egregious.
Oh yeah they would have been in big trouble if it happened to you! 😂
My favorite genre of delusional Reddit comments are the ones like above “wow it’s a good thing that didn’t happen to me cuz I would have lost my cool and it wouldn’t be pretty!” Like okay pal I’m sure you would have gone beast mode and then told us all on Reddit how everyone clapped
Lol yes, guy from Reddit would have really gone off on some pro athletes!
Call me crazy but MrBuckBuck is using AI generated titles for clicks
This title is perfectly fine
Weird claim and how is it related to the comment that you replied to? Makes you look like an AI.
Not everything is AI. MrBuckBuck’s titles have always been like this and nothing wrong with this one
Maybe not this one but almost all of them are hyper-sensationalized
I’m pretty sure he’s not a native English speaker. He posts more highlights than anyone here and has before AI was a big thing
They are long and verbose. Hyper-sensationalized would be something like this: https://np.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/1py4jk7/highlight_gary_payton_ii_forgets_how_legs_work/
You’re getting downvoted but a warriors mod banned him for exactly that IIRC. Had hyper sensationalized titles that made the warriors (or whatever specific team) look bad
Especially if dudes started catching $50k fines, that line would move real quick.
I feel like I see jokic with red scratch marks every other game lol
The last big Raptors logo looking scratch that he got actually made him wear an arm sleeve.
I feel like the reason the NBA hasn’t instituted nail checks/fines for scratching is because they love the ESPN headlines shit like this causes. They love the drama, when the people just want to watch dudes play ball at the highest level.
every big guy ends up with arms like that at this point, jokic just looks super obvious because his white, the scratching is a pandemic in this league
He should just wear sleeves tbh
Like they do this for high school sports. Why tf they letting grown professional men have claws
It could be Donovan spida Mitchell or Donovan venom Mitchell
For real. If you’re a man and you’re fingernails are long enough to do this, you’re fucking nasty. Rip them shits down to the stub. It should be difficult to pick up a coin off of a flat surface. Fucking ghouls.
Counter point. I keep my nails on my right hand long for guitar finger picking.
Had a bunch of homies who played classical in college who did the same. One was always brushing some fucking growth serum shit on his thumbnail and that thing was fucking thicker than Kyle Lowry.
You get a pass, but still slightly repulsive. Like if you go to shake my hand I’m going to recoil a bit when I see those claws.
Oh make no mistake, I know how it looks to other people. I’m pretty quick to explain when I see people notice.
Sorry the best we can do is g give the refs more camera time.
I played water polo and we did a nail check at every level, before every game. Absolutely no reason the NBA can’t lol. We, i.e. coaches or team captains, could even complain to the refs between quarters to get a check on a specific player and if they had a long nail they couldn’t return to play until the ref was satisfied. NBA loves this ticky tacky drama shit in my opinion. They love the ESPN headlines for a week about the Jokers raptor claw logo on his arm.
i cut my nails frequently as i both play bass and do some rock climbing. i can tell you that freshly cut nails are sharp/jagged too lol
They check nails in fucking little league most places.
Adam Silver demands a blood sacrifice every game.
Seriously wild that they don’t do this, there’s no legitimate reason.
Generally speaking Black men keep longer nails than other races/ethnicity. They may need to institute a nail check
Source?
Black men?
Black dudes had nasty nails a lot when I played.
Always smelled good though unlike plenty of white dudes.
I love how there’s literal evidence of a foul but the refs will always act like they’re infallible.
Its bullshit, but he likely got the tech for how he complained (IE he was “rude” about being assaulted). I find it especially funny that I’m pretty sure you’re not allowed to bleed on the court, so he’d have to come out of the game or they’d have to have a timeout regardless.
Just a great example of how bad calls can compound and really show the refs to be incompetent in the NBA. Frustrating to the max.
It’s ridiculous. Like as a ref, if you clearly fuck up..don’t call a tech. There was some pretty clear evidence here..
It’s like that game where the Spurs won the challenge, but they still gave Mitch the technical. Like..what the hell.
Idk what booker said. You should be professional. And it comes down to the ref. I think it’s funny Mitchell missed the free throw. Ball don’t lie and all that.
It was compounded all game as the refs seem to refuse to call a foul for Booker when he was clearly getting grabbed and hit. More frustration than anything at this point
Professionalism goes both ways.
Like sure, if Book threatened his family, T him up. But as a ref, you missed the call. He’s literally bleeding, and if he looked at you and said “what the fuck”..use some restraint and let it go.
Similar with Mitch. If the call was so blatantly bad that you overturned it, give the coach some grace.
I mean, you can clearly sees Booker gets right up in the refs face and blocks him from getting up the line to get at him
He didn’t just Tatum clap or go “bad call blue”
(Insert lebron literally grabbing the ref by the arm with no consequences)
This makes it extra funny coming for a sixers fan.
??? you can’t just go nuclear on a ref because they missed a call, what in the draymond school of witchcraft and wizardry is this comment lol
Going nuclear and being animated and yelling are two different things.
Neither Booker or Mitch went nuclear.
I think the tech was because he was complaining on 3-4 straight possessions in a row, not just this play. That game was officiated terribly all around though.
Yeah I was hoping he would just not get it cleaned up and when the ref stops play just say “oh no this was on the play I didn’t get fouled on, nothing happened”. Of course this would make butthurt tech come instantly lol
Fuck the Astros but it reminds me of a time in baseball when Jose Altuve fouled a pitch off his foot but they called it a fair ball. So he took his sock off to show the bruise lmao and he got ejected for it
How dare you prove how bad of a job I’m doing
I mean, it’s how the rest of our country works, shouldn’t it be that way in the NBA.
Expressing that you were wronged incorrectly is one of the worst offenses.
A scratch isn’t automatically indicative of a foul unless you think basketball should be a completely non-contact sport lol. It’s annoying and people should be required to cut their nails, but a lot of legal defensive contact is way more forceful and obstructive than a scratch.
In real time there’s just not a foul though, defender is entitled to make a play on the ball and the contact seems incidental at best
The contact that starts at the 3 point line and continues all the way to the basket?
When did the arm become the ball?
“No blood no foul” literally bleeding
Came here to say the same.
not sure if this is the suns or cavs broadast, positive its not the national broadcast, but i love these commentators, very straightforward n relaxing with it
It’s the suns, Rex Chapman has been filling in the past couple of games as the color analyst. Wouldn’t be surprised if he takes over full time in the next couple of years.
The Incandescent Rex Chapman
- Tony Kornheiser
Got nothing on EJ.
EJ is 100% the reason other fans don’t like our commentary. Unapologetic homer but I love’m
Yeah I love EJ but honestly Rex has been a breath of fresh air
To his credit, if the tape doesn’t agree with what he’s saying he’ll correct himself.
Also, anyone that watched our broadcasts during our worst years knows he just talks shit on bad basketball in general. He’ll call our own guys out for it just as much as our opponents.
Yeah he’s just an old head that loves the game and misses playing. Gotta respect it
I love EJ but I think he’s nearing the end of his career, it’s been a great run. Rex is totally different vibe but I’ve enjoyed the last few games he’s called.
Didn’t even know he was calling games, haven’t heard of him since he robbed the Apple Store a decade ago.
Sexy Rexy!
As a non-Suns fan, I welcome this lol. Yalls regular analyst is rough for outsiders
He has been terrible. He mostly just calmly says, “that’s a foul” on almost every play.
I’ve enjoyed him, it’s definitely a different vibe than EJ and I would guess he’ll develop some more personality over time.
Rex has been phenomenal. I like EJ too, but only because he’s such a homer and also criticizes our guys when they make mistakes, especially on defense. I can definitely see why other fans find EJ annoying, whereas Rex is slightly less of a homer and gives better insight overall, IMO.
Rex “thats a foul” chapman
The refs would’ve sent that defender to jail if that was Sga
Shai shoots 0.7 more free throws per game than Booker. Just a wild narrative this sub has latched on to with him that this is a top comment.
It is such a simple and flawed take to solely quote free throws as evidence and to quote people of this sub and ignore all of their valid comments is telling as well. It isn’t just that he gets free throws but because he gets soft calls, they have to guard him less, which opens up a ton of easy layups and jump shots. Even the eye test on any given game shows up ram people with his shoulder or hip at full speed and then the next play will get half a step in front of his defender and suddenly goes limp and gets “thrown” to the ground. Basketball is a contact sport and going limp should never be rewarded. Then watching as his team mauls the other team in the same game and you’ll start to understand how it isn’t even an enjoyable game to watch for neutral fans, especially for anyone who actually plays the game at any level because that isn’t basketball.
Yeah yeah sure, everyone says the same shit. He drives more than anyone in the league. He has insane balance and body control. He creates angles that few players in the history of the game have been capable of, which is why he’s able to get to the rim and to his middy and yes, to the line all at a high rate, and to convert those opportunities with insane efficiency.
I’m a neutral fan, I played at the college level, I’ve coached for 15 years. He’s a supremely gifted player with a deep bag who is a joy to watch. He also happens to get to the line the same way every other ball dominant scoring guard does. He’s good, people don’t like it when players are too good. That’s what’s actually happening and the downvotes and tired explanations about it don’t bother me. Y’all can be miserable all you want. I love watching him work. I love watching Luka and Harden work. Shit, I love watching Avdija work. I’m old enough to have watch Jordan in his prime, and people bitched about his whistle too. I’m going to appreciate greatness when I get the chance to see it.
People do conflate their frustrations on a player with their ability. Sga is insanely talented and people who disagree are just wrong. I’d argue the frustration is with how the league officiates games and then the target goes to typically the best in the league that also benefit greatly from those flawed officiating. The issue is that there isn’t any consistency in the officiating between officiating crews or who has the ball. Some crews call more reach in and others call blocking calls but the consistency is that star players with narratives written somehow benefit from every single one of them. The focus tends to be the team getting away with the flaws the most but the anger should be directed towards the league more so than the player. That’s what frustrates me personally the most.
Same with warriors during the borderline nfl blocking moving screens era. No one is arguing that steph/klay werent great shooters or that the warriors were extremely talented and well built. The moving screens were just awful to watch. So is foul baiting. Leagues around the world can get it right and the league is intentionally calling games a certain way that isn’t fun to watch for fans who want more depth. It’s awesome to be able to see in slow motion how technically gifted these players are and then the bullshit tactics they get free throws from is so painful. And the refs don’t call it equally by any means. Add in the makeup calls and sports betting and it has plenty of fans who also play the sport start to question the validity of it all because after all, it is a business. But watching the olympics and fiba games are so fascinating because there is consistency in the calls. When a foul happens in the nba about 15 times per play according to their rules, the refs then get to choose when to call it. That’s a flawed system in of itself.
Lakers fan talking btw
Hes not wrong tho
I mean, true, but I think it’s also fair to call out the pot calling the kettle black. Cause the same thing could be said for reaves
It doesn’t matter, he is still right
Not a flairless laker fan pushing this shit lmao
Your boys live by the whistle bro
As a lakers fan, Luka would still be complaining if that happened to him
As an r/nba fan, haven’t we seen Jokic battle through this 30 times. What’s the difference now
You know he’s right though, You’d be there in the comments too.

Cry
Nah
Man, cut your damn nails. You know how much bacteria or fungi or whatever is hiding under there. Try wiping your asses without a little shitces getting in there.
Dude I was with you until the last sentence, You may need to revise your technique
His nails are the three seashells.
he doesn’t know how to use the 3 seashells?
Exactly. “Yup. Yup. Preach. Yo, what the fuck!?”
He scoops
i am dying of laughter
what a way to start the year/morning
For real. “Boys, don’t you hate how you just keep getting your own shit under your fingernails?”
Brother what
Jesus. Just get a bidet bro
Please get a bidet
Book has received a terrible whistle so far this season.
*every season
Mitchell as well. Odd how there’s some superstars that just don’t get the whistle and then we have Luka and SGA.
As a Warriors/Steph fan, I feel the pain of watching a superstar get no calls deeply.
Well, Draymond does balance it out
Any other player that has led his team to a Finals, been on Team USA, made multiple all-NBA teams and multiple all star games would get that call. Hell, any other player with that resume would get dozens of calls that Book doesn’t get. He gets the worst whistle of any star in the league. It’s comical that a talentless bozo like Austin Reaves gets calls and Book can’t.
Books not the only one. I mean Mitchell averages 6 fta a game and he scores 30 points.
Tell that to Jokic
Steph nor Ant would get that call (albeit Ant hasn’t been in the finals yet)
Steph’s teammates at least are allowed to set illegal screens for him. Booker doesn’t even get that. 😭
Funny enough, Ant has shot 21 free throws in 2 games against us this year.
Book is averaging more FTS compared to ant this season lol. Try N=35 instead of 2
As he should. Book has accomplished more and has a longer track record than Ant. And he isn’t a showboat.
Accomplishing more should not mean a better whistle. Otherwise Steph would average 15 FT a game but instead he has a generationally bad one
W’s fans always complain about Steph’s whistle. Do you actually believe this? He isn’t getting Reaves or FTA level calls, but for a guy that takes 90% of his shots from 3, his whistle is about as average as anyone else.
His style of play doesn’t create contact.
What style of play leads to free throws?
Here’s just a few examples of Steph getting a bad whistle though:

I could give you about 95 clips of Book getting hammered and not getting calls. My point is that Steph is primarily a jump shooter - not just a jump shooter - one that takes shots from absurd distance. Typically those shots are not ones that generate free throw attempts. No knock on Steph, but he’s not a guy that gets into the paint and absorbs contact for the most part.
I’m assuming you mean that getting into the paint means driving to the basket.
Nuggets were 1st, Lakers were 2nd, and Bucks were 4th in free throws last season. Respectively they were 30th, 27th, and 28th in drives per game.
Luka shoots the second most 3’s and has almost double the FTA. Sure his usage is a bit higher than Steph’s, but he’s also driving to the basket 50% less than his Mavs season while getting 30% more free throws.
I ain’t even saying books whistle is good but it’s infinitely better than Steph’s (unless you wanna show me those 95 clips)
Am I the only one who these replays won’t actually play for? I’m on my phone
Same here, some work fine but some just keep on buffering
Sometimes I can click pause/play over and over and it works, sometimes skip ahead until it works, but usually just nothing
Works fine for me, iPhone 17 pro
Sometimes the Reddit app is trash though, might have to reinstall it
Click the streamable link and watch there - Reddit sucks.
Same for me, but when i’m on desktop it’s perfectly fine for some reason. It’s not a connection issue.
Refs should immediately be fined for doubling down on awful calls
I may be a homer but book has the worst whistle in the NBA. He’s literally got a defender with their arms wrapped around his waist for like 60% of any game with no whistle.
I still have a scar on my bicep from this. It was a teammate in practice.I honestly knew some contact was made, but not a foul persay. I ran down the court and the coach stopped practice because my arm was just dripping with blood and later in the locker room I noticed his thumb nail was like half a inch long. It’s the one that sliced me like a knife. I never realized I was bleeding until coach pumped the brakes.
What a pussy, has he never been mauled by a baby jaguar before? Quit crying, bookworm
/s
These dudes still need to figure out how to clip their nails.
They do it on purpose…. Even at the high school level the amount of people that keep their nails sharp af and jagged playing football was rampant. Even though all it does is scratch, any advantage to be gained was and is made.
I had to wear a sleeve on my forearm and elbow or my arm would be a scarred mess.
Seriously why don’t NBA players cut their fucking nails. It’s gross, unsafe and did I mention it’s gross.
He got the joker treatment
All players should have their hands checked prior to the start of the game.
The nba actually having a problem of grown fucking men not trimming their finger nails is hilarious
Booker is getting the Jokic treatment. Adam Silver saw Jokic was going to he out a month so he made a couple calls. There’s always gotta be at least one guy active with claw marks all over his arm that doesn’t get called!
Ball don’t lie (in Rasheed Wallace voice)
Yall should see Curry after every game
Refs were pretty awful all night
Players are bleeding from scratches way too often.
Welcome to Jokic land
Who does he think he is? SGA?
League should rescind the technical honestly.
Nba refs like to pretend they are doing a good job
Cut your nails jfc
They need rules like the NHL where drawing blood influences the penalty
Which player’s nails did this?
I hope we get to the point where players, to combat this, are blading like they do in wrestling. It’ll be like the nail scratch equivalent of flopping. Add some more color to the game.
Joker sitting back laughing.
Joker: First time?
One of these days a player is gonna absolutely rock one of these refs & it will be deserved
oh nyoooo dont make the ref uncomfortable 😣
No foul. 2 free throws for OKC.
Refs bad at their jobs so double down and tech players for them being bad at their jobs
I can only imagine the frustration of showing literal blood to an official, only to be literally faced with “lalalalala I can’t hear you lalalalaala” and then the guy compounding his mistake. There’s gotta be a better way.
I just gave up on watching the NBA years and years ago
Officiating has been absolute ass this season. Worst I can remember in a long time.
The NBA is absolutely cooked. Trashketball.
Call every single foul. Every one. Let the benches play while so called starters rest their sorry asses no benches and coaches sit dumbasses who can’t play without fouling . The NBA is a shit show far too often.
These refs got something going if they can’t see basics.
Gotta bleed on the guy that did it. Or the ref, I guess. Maybe the mascot. Or Spike Lee
Mitchell need to cut his damn nails
Imagine Jokics’s
Look at Joker’s arms. Wear sleeves.
What if it’s such advanced flopping that he cut himself?
Have you seen scratches on jokics arms every single game he plays?
It’s not about pointing out the foul to the refs, it’s how these ninjas can’t say it respectfully.
Luka Doncic is Devin Booker’s father
“HUGE” in orange face terms, I suppose.
So Steph after every other game?
Ref is standing right their too. C’mon.
But it’s also his fault. He was pushing off all 2nd half on offense and they let him do it. Can’t have it both ways.
*they’re
**th’ayer
If this was Curry, he would have been called for the offensive foul somehow 🤣
Cut aside, don’t look like a foul
I would think the cut would qualify as a foul.
Just checked the rule book it in fact does not say that, especially when the offensive player initiates the contact. That’s just a good contest
Link it
Which part in the book?
But it doesn’t. Ref has to see a foul to call a foul.
The ref always has to see a foul to call a foul so that’s not a very good rationale
Not going to see the cut happen in real time. What’s ref supposed to do say oh you’re bleeding let’s go back and review to find the foul? This never happens.
I mean, Mitchell’s fingernail raked his fucking arm on the layup attempt and drew blood. That’s a foul.
Yeah it should be but it doesn’t look obvious. Just seen many times when a player shows the ref a fresh scratch and the refs never do a thing. Rubio used to do it all the time
