Kon Knueppel on was it like sharing the floor with someone he’ll probably be compared to for the rest of his career (Steph Curry): “Hmm…I don’t know about that.”
Idk why reporters seem so out of touch with their questions
They love drama , they love baiting
Yep. They want that clickbait headline they can post for their article.
Yeah, it’s almost like that’s what is best received by their market.
Kon probably got asked other questions last night by some others but nobody has seen/cared about those.
Also, those boring questions aren’t fun either.
Who wants to read an article about how “the team played hard on both ends and did what we had to do to get the job done tonight”?
The most popular players give fun answers to these silly questions.
This is more than just a silly question tho. Why would we be comparing Steph to this kid for the rest of his career? Bc they both…play basketball? Lol.
I mean, sure, but who cares there’s no harm in asking the question and who knows? maybe Kon gives some really cocky answer and we all have a laugh about it.
Why not just let the player’s kids ask all the post game questions then? Get rid of the reporters altogether!
Sheesh, the sky is falling, it’s not all that serious. I couldn’t imagine actually being frustrated by this question. Comparing basketball players to other basketball players is like 50% of basketball discourse anyway.
There both elite three point shooters on high volume attempts. He’s a rookie and Steph is a veteran and pioneer. It’s actually plausible if Kon ends up becoming a superstar/elite that people will compare him to Steph for a while somewhere down the line. The reporter phrasing was off though.
Agreed; it wasn’t a terrible question; the three pointers were the impetus for it. Now, given Kon K’s own words about studying Klay Thompson; and Kon’s own playstyle; he could’ve found a way to emphasize the three pointers, Kon, Klay and Curry better….yet this isn’t shame the reporter bad
Steph is the GOAT shooter. Even the cockiest rookie would be delusional to think his name will be brought up alongside Steph frequently throughout his career.
My comment has nothing to do with the response and everything to do with the question asked, and the reddit response to the question.
Sad thing is they get paid for it.
They don’t. We do.
Hell yeah i love baiting
Blurring the lines with emotion
This and the fact that 99% of sports beat reporters are neither reporters, journalists, or writers. They’re just dudes with twitter accounts.
Some could argue they are master baiters
It’s all they care about try to bait the players or twist their words
They always get to finish when they’re baiting
I mean there’s like 50+ interviews a week in the NBA with what? 10+ questions each? and we might hear a couple completely unhinged questions a week if that. The media can 100% be awful, but Reddit is also really dramatic about it.
If they asked a normal question, we wouldn’t be talking about it.
He’s an idiot, he could have framed the question in a mature way and gotten the same point across:
“You’re the fastest rookie to hit 100 3-pointers in a season and are on your way to set the season record for a rookie. Unfortunately, this means analysts will be comparing your rookie season to the greatest 3 point shooter of all time for the rest of your career. With that said, how did it feel like to be on the floor with Steph? Did something surprise you about the speed, pace and strength he plays with?”
Like, its not that hard. These guys are just idiots. He actually would have gotten the soundbite he wanted for his media company better this way lol. But putting some thought into your work is apparently one step too much.
The real answer is no one gives a shit about player press conferences, even the people complaining about the question. No ones watching this shit or listening to this shit. No one cares. And why would anyone
Long questions like that are annoying too though. Nobody wants to sit and listen to the reporter talk for 30 seconds
I did tennis media for a while, it was kind of shocking how many reporters just had no clue what they were talking about, would ask completely insane or just wrong questions, it was wild.
Tennis is one of the worst for media and questioning. It usually a strange personal question, or an extreme loaded question.
Or someone that knows nothing about tennis
Looking for quotes
This is what modern media is. How can i get people to read the headline of my article.
I mean when talking about career 3 pointers made, sure he’ll be compared lol
The dude is a rookie. Sure, he’s hitting at a great clip, but he’s still a rookie. He might not make it to his next contract. Lots of things can happen. Let’s not put him onto the career 3PT list just yet.
Well hey, if he doesn’t make it to his next contract he’ll still have been compared to Steph for most, if not all of his career. Just a very short one.
Good point!
No matter what he says they can already title their piece about comparisons and thoughts on playing curry gaining more traction views and engagement. As in this post is already going to gain more traction than him just being asked about the game
Because they never played sports and want clicks. All these questions are high school journalism questions it’s pretty embarrassing. With how advanced analysis of the game is now there should be 100 game related questions to ask besides dumb clippable sound bite questions.
They want a sound bite for click and views.
These are the people that vote for all pro and mvp. Media based awards shouldn’t be considered when talking about players greatness honestly
Does this reporter actually have a vote?
It’s a fair question this one, though
What you got ain’t nothin’ new. This country’s hard on people. You can’t stop what’s coming. It ain’t all waiting on you. That’s vanity
Reporters need to realize that not all great 3pts shooters have Steph in their comp……
Kon is a lot more like Klay and I believe has even cited Klay as an influence.
Tragically, this reporter doesn’t know ball.
They know ball, but they also know what to say to get you to click on stuff
Fun fact: He’s got an uncle called Klay who plays (3-on-3) ball.
Klay Knuepple? Is it just a family of k names?
Edit: Annoying typo had to be fixed
His Dad, also named Kon, has three brothers: Klint, Klay, and Kole. He also has five sons: Kon, Kager, Kinston, Kash, and Kid.
Unfortunately for these kids, there aren’t that many K names. So it got weird quick and the youngest kid is just… Kid. Fortunately, his full name is Kidman, so when he’s a grown man he can go by Man.
Here comes 2045 draftee Krusty Knuepple
do i dare ask if their middle names also start with the letter k…? 😶
Kager is an insane name. Kid has to go to an SEC school
Kaeger is the one that’s 6’10 and can really shoot, still mad that Duke chose not to recruit him.
I’ve watched him play 20 times and he really isn’t that level. He’s really good but he’s not great in the post and doesn’t have elite footwork like Kon to get his shot off.
He’s class of 2027 still has a year to get offers shouldn’t you be salty about the Badgers not offering him yet?
Anything to avoid the name Keith.
Widely regarded as the worst first name.
Don’t sleep on Mitch here.
Krazy how they have all those K names and no Kevin.
I mean… they really just skipped Kurt, Ken, and Kevin?
do they eh… have middle names?
Yea according to Wikipedia he’s got 4 brothers with names that starts with K and his dad has 3 brothers whose names also start with K
I trust they never congregate as only 3 at a time
Kongregate*
Middle names all K
K-K-K? That’s not good
Yea he has an uncle Kole too who is a Big Ten football ref
It’s a Charlotte reporter, of course they don’t know ball
Defense is miles off Klay though
And they need to realise he’s also the best off-ball player to ever step on a court. There are plenty of elite shooters but Chef is a 1 of 1 because of how he moves when he doesn’t have the ball
Nothing like the anxiety of rooting for a team against steph, and just watching him* run 17 loopdeeloops in a row to bust a wipe open shot.
we are all Matthew Dellavedova
And by wide open we mean 18 inches of space from the defender which is for Steph means he is unguarded.
Fucking psycho that he is also one of the better ball handlers of all time as well
And one of the best handles when he has the ball
And not every skinny ball handler is KD
They see a good shooter and think, Steph. Dude doesn’t really play like him at all he just makes alot of threes
If I was gonna compare Kon to an all time great, I’d say Bird.
But, if Kon was a shit talker like Bird, he’d complain about being compared to a white guy.
I recall Doris Burke calling every Lillard deep 3 “Curry-esque” as if Dame isn’t his peer in the same generation….
Kon could end up being a hall of famer and he still wont be compared to steph
Of course not. He will be compared to his Duke teammate
Maybe Klay too, but yeah that 100%
The only (at this moment, minuscule) off chance is if Kon has a long, healthy career and is ultimately the next to threaten a lasting all-time threes made record.
Since he is off to a record-setting pace hitting threes, there’s an opportunity, but we’re many years from it being entertained as a real possibility. It’d be similar to the Reggie/Steph stuff despite there not really being similarities in their games.
I’m interested to see if/when we get an actual Steph comparison in terms of play style. It’s really only feasible for someone to play that way if they have: 1. Top .0001 percentile hand-eye coordination, 2. Insane conditioning and mastery of off-ball movement, 3. Handling and footwork to create off the dribble against smothering defense, and 4. A quick, hyper-efficient shooting stroke that wastes no motion and allows for a constant scoring threat when combined with #2 and 3
Players can’t even be a worse version of Steph because it’s not feasible to play that way. Every shooter has some level of those things, but they’re not good enough at all four. Maybe there’ll be another who can.
To me Trae is the closest comp play style wise
Not even close the guy actually doesn’t shoot enough
He plays nothing like Steph lol
Trae plays very slowly and holds the ball a lot compared to Steph. He’s much more of a classical PG. Steph is the ultimate evolution of an off-ball movement shooter, to the extent that a guy like Duncan Robinson (especially his 2020 season) is a better 1-to-1 with Steph than Trae is.
Lol and he’s not close but I guess you mean he at least shoots alot of threes on ball
Isn’t steph like famously good off ball shooting though? Like all of that movement and the draymond linebacker screens were often with steph not with the ball just to give him a second of space to get and shoot it.
I think he was just dominant on and off, paired with Klay it was nuts
As in Trae Young? Not even close. Trae is too much of a high usage ball handler to anywhere near a Steph comp. People saw him shoot deep 3s a few times in college and instantly crowned him as the new Steph when they evolved on completely different paths. Trae is nearly useless without the ball in hands meanwhile Steph had Delly to go to the hospital after chasing him around all game.
I mean, that was a really stupid question, but I have another one is his name pronounced in a way that rhymes with the word nipple or more like noble but with a p?
Avoided the bait like a pro
Like a master bait avoider
Master baiter evader was right there lol
He’s got the clutch gene
Kon is a dawg on the court and media trained? Yeah the hornets finally got one
Choosing to see this as him being a total humble goat
Choosing correctly. Didn’t fall for the bait, good on him.
Choosing to see this as him thinking that Steph should be contemplating what it was like to share the floor with the future GOAT, Kon Knueppel.
And the fact they don’t play anything alike.
Or he doesn’t know whether Steph could measure up to how he projects himself in the future
I wonder if Podz thinks he could be better than Kon some day
Wow just like Steph
Back in the day every good shooter was compared to Reggie Miller, than to Ray Allen, and I bet the comparison of every good shooter to Curry will last quite some time.
they always forget about AK47, smh
Peja
ANDREEEEEE
Kyle Korver though
No you don’t understand. The reporter is a pot-stirrer trying to bait the player for clicks and this question is the kind of out of bounds nonsense that we need to eliminate in sports journalism /s
Kon is 6’6 it’s not even a good comparison.
Much closer to Klay imho
So… he’s big like Klay but shoots like Steph?
I’m not familiar with this man’s game, shooting form, shot selection or any of that, but like… Klay also shot the ball… pretty damn well
Its a meme regarding Nik Stauskas mate, haha
I thought this was about buddy hield
You mean Sauce Castillo!!
Clicks and views, the reporters know what they are doing.
Craziest thing to me is that not only disrespecting Steph Curry with the question but also disrespecting the entire history of the league by saying Steph “pioneered the 3pt shot.” Gotta stop giving press credentials to random Twitter idiots
Not even the best comparison among Currys in the building
Come on lol
that was def an “umm” not a “hhmm”
This changes everything
Did this reporter actually ask the question and added “pioneer the 3 point shot??” Steph didn’t pioneer the 3 point shot. Threes were around before Steph. This reporter’s question is so dumb
That was my first reaction too. Took me a while to get to how bad the comparison was because I couldn’t get past the idea of someone thinking the 3 point shot started in like 2010.
Being a reporter has to be the easiest job in the world.
It’s actually a difficult job, if done right. That’s why they become sports “reporters”.
The guy asking the question is Matt Alquiza who I think provides great coverage.
I dont think he was baiting him. I just think he really likes Kon and is a bit overzealous 😂
In a way, there will be some comparisons if he continues with this 3 point volume. He has shown potential to end up in the conversation as an all time great shooter. Obviously, their games are still completely different though even if Kon does keep up this pace.
Noone is compared to Steph lol
My humble king
“Pioneered the 3 point shot” is crazy. Reporter out there acting like everyone’s only scoring 2s before Curry was drafted
Ah yes Steph Curry, the first person to ever shoot a 3 pointer. A true pioneer of the shot!
He has 100% changed the 3-pt game. Actually, he’s one of the few to have completely influenced the sport itself.
Not acknowledging his influence just makes you look like a hater.
Steph Curry … The pioneer of the 3-point shot lol
He’s way more like Klay
Slow day in the NBA.
Kon plays nothing like Steph other than being a really good 3-pt shooter lol
What a completely stupid fucking question lol
Wanted Kon to join us so bad :(
Y’all didn’t even have a frp in 2025 class lol
Had the PHX pick, after the lottery came in as 10, traded it for KD alongside Dillon and Jalen, PHX picked Malauch. I think it dropped from 9th best odds to 10 so obviously could have jumped like the top 3 picks did as well, but more importantly the mocks had Kon at around 9-10 range about a month before the draft and at the time when it seemed like Houston was just going to draft, Kon was the nr.1 guy people projected Houston drafting. Then it seemed like his stock just went through the roof as we got closer and closer to the draft and he was mocked at the top 5 range. I think there was a world where Houston drafted Kon either at about 9-10 or just jump like all 3 picks did.
But obviously at the end it didn’t matter.
Homer ahh reporter
The wince lmao
Killa Kon is hoopin, def ROTY contender.
That reporter needs to get a new job
He handled that question well.
Jerseys absolutely an eyesore woof
was it like or what’s it like
Correct fucking answer my guy.
Keep shooting like this and it’s definitely a possibility. This rate is crazy but not impossible. If he’s healthy, Kon’s shot could easily have him climb the list of all time 3 point shooters quickly. Only 29 games to hit 100 career 3 pointers, 12 games faster than anybody in history. That says something.
He played at Duke. They’re always going to be overhyped.
Ain’t no one comparing this ma to Steph, no disrespect.
He should be happy he’s being compared to Steph Curry. Most journalists would have picked people like Steve Kerr, Luke Kennard, JJ Redick, or some other pasty 3pt shooter to compare him to lol.
Just cuz both are white and can shoot 3s doesn’t mean they are the same type of player lmao. Still remember the Curry comparison on Trae Young when he shoots long 3s but they don’t really have the same skillet.
Steph just light skinned 😂
Nah, you gotta break the news to Dell that he’s not black.
uhhhhhh idk how to tell you this but steph ain’t white
Tell shaq that
What is he then?
Black…
Ain’t no way ur a top 1% commenter on the nba sub and don’t know what Steph’s race is😅
Isn’t it obvious?
