I’m a bit of a casual with the Kings, but what I think is particularly insane is that just a couple years ago they had something great going on, got to playoffs on a high seed and lost to GSW on seven games, after a 15 years or so playoffs drought.

And then went straight back to mediocrity and the future looks darker than ever.

I’m still very skeptical on Yanic, because he just doesn’t seem to keep up with any moderately difficult schemes. This was effectively a G-league matchup, but it’s good to see him do well.

Kobe Sanders definitely looks like a rotation guy though. If he continues to shoot well and work as a combo guard, he’ll have a spot for sure. I also think there’s something there with Cam Christie, but for all the flashes he shows, he also does dumb shit.

Yanic still tends to look really, really lost against actual NBA level defenses/offenses. The size/athleticism and ceiling are there for him, but I’m always skeptical of guys who just have poor BBIQ but look serviceable against shit teams.

I also don’t think you let a win streak from a core of old dudes convince you to trade the only starting caliber player in his prime on a great contract. Zu will outlast Harden and Kawhi, but also, if you can sell high on him, I’d definitely do it. Simons and a mediocre Boston pick isn’t enough though.

Yeah you could see that he is raw and he is not solid at drop coverage defense. He needs reps like any young player, He reminds me of Moussa with the fouling. You could also see the ceiling with him due to size and athleticism.

Moussa actually is more surprising for me. He looked like a good energy guy for us, but he wasn’t big/strong enough to consistently win positioning, which is really tough to justify when he also has no range.

I’m glad to see him succeeding, but Yanic’s ceiling is much higher because he’s a true big. ESPN has Diabate listed at 210lbs while Yanic is listed at 240.

Either way, I think we need to see more Yanic while Zu is out, because we need to actually test our young guys instead of having them on the fringes at all times.

The team doesn’t have enough shooting or ball handling for Zu. They’re clicking right now because they can play 5-out with Brook and they can play high screen and roll with Yanic. Yanic is mobile enough that they’re setting the screen outside the 3pt line and the defense has to respect it because he’s a lob threat. They have so much more space to work with than before. It’s letting them use Kawhi as the backup point guard essentially.

They can’t fix their lack of ball handling or shooting but the extra space covers up both problems. Add Zu back in the mix and both shortcoming will get exposed again.

Spacing helps, obviously, but you’re acting like Zu’s injury is some on/off switch for shooting ability. This roster didn’t forget how to shoot for two months and then suddenly remember the second Zu went out.

What’s changed in this stretch is pace, decisiveness, and ball movement. The team is pushing earlier in the clock, shooters are stepping into shots instead of hesitating, and defenses are now reacting instead of dictating because the Clippers are actually converting. That forces closeouts, which creates the same driving lanes you’re attributing solely to “5 out spacing”

Also, Zu isn’t some static paint clogger. He’s played on multiple Clippers teams that were top 10 offenses. He sets high screens, flips into re-screens, and draws the opposing 5 into coverage, which is why Kawhi and PG have had strong midrange efficiency with him on the floor. The offense just wasn’t executing earlier

Zubac regressed massively this year defensively, he is slow and clumsy and can’t contest shit, gets cooked in the pnr and his rim protection isn’t even that good.

Lopez has literally stepped in and been a better rim protector all while spacing the floor and allowing kawhi and James to feast.
