Not saying I necessarily believe there was a conspiracy (although I don’t necessarily not believe it happened in some form or fashion), but if there were then there are other ways besides Flagg to compensate Dallas.

In general, companies (especially those with a functional monopoly) use all sorts of shady means to accomplish different goals. We could argue about whether or not they’re “good” at it, but they’re at least thorough.

Under the new second apron, free agents don’t sign elsewhere because they can earn a considerably greater amount by re-signing with their team and then requesting a trade.

Even if a player requested a trade to us, we didn’t have enough assets to get anyone. The Dame trade showed that it’s not guaranteed that a player gets traded to their preferred destination.

There was a report that we were frustrated with AD after he called out the front office by asking for them to get another C to help him in the front court.

Oh he’s definitely gotten more popular, overall. But he’d probably still be better of on an actual contending(ish) roster overall. I’d disagree that the trade did him good. The trade will cost him at least 2 years of his prime as the Lakers are devoid of talent and assets and have to build again around him like the Mavs.

Then there’s the fact that he build up a ton of good will with Mavs fandom as they saw him as a rookie, early playoffs and he brought them to the WCF and Finals. The Lakers don’t care about none of that, only what he does for them and it’s already clear he’s being more criticized this year than ever before, you’d think he’s averaging 25 on 55TS% from the way people talk. This has also extended towards the media.

This trade only benefits him if the Lakers manage to actually contend by next 2 year and it helps him also get individual awards. But the latter I doubt very much and the first is unlikely to happen with Pelinka as GM.

I disagree. The Mavs had built a roster around him that proved themselves as a championship team. They kept everyone but DJJ, who they replaced with Naji, Grimes, and Klay. I think the team actually got better overall, and was set to be a contender for years to come. They had the rivalry with OKC and the Spurs set up. I couldn’t have written it better myself. But it doesn’t matter, all that is thrown away. Now Luka has to go through another few years of building to get a championship contender roster, and that’s not even a guarantee. I think it was a unique scenario where Mavs ownership was willing to play along.
