I honestly believe getting a reliable forward is key for  them because right now they’ll have a hard time against bigger teams. Barnes too slow to guard guys like mobley and lauri. Vassell at the 3 is small guarding those big wings as well

The most obvious answer is usually the right one IMO.

And the most obvious issue is that this is still a very young team who’s core haven’t even played 30 games together. And with that comes inconsistency.

It’s clear the team really put a target on the OKC games, and put everything into them almost like a playoff series (which is not a bad thing - we’re gonna need to win those kind of big games in the future).

But they haven’t had the same focus in other games, and they are no longer gonna catch teams by surprise - everyone seems to be treating these as big games now, and as a young team they will make mistakes and won’t always execute well at the end of games.

It seems you rely too much on box score, wemby starting or not is not the problem. Consistency from other is. So many open 3s not getting in and you still blame the one attracting those defense..🙃

By my count they’re 15-2 with Luke starting this year, though admittedly, not all games are Wemby off the bench

Wemby is their best player and will be an mvp and one of the greats when all is said and done. But imo the real strength of this spurs teams is their guards (fox, castle, Harper). They are incredible on both sides of the ball and are especially great at playmaking. I feel like the spurs operate best when they have those three running the show and setting up wemby with the occasional wemby WTF play sprinkled in there.

Watched a little bit of the game, at least the portion I watched last night Castle was having an absolutely brutal game and the offense looked completely disjointed and unorganized, wasn’t really totally on Wemby. Some really bad turnovers, and bad shooting. Other Spurs were getting in on it too, missed some stupidly easy shots.

It is very hard to be champion with center as first option. That is possible only with Jokic. Wemby is monster but he is not a ultra creative offensive system.

Young teams are more likely to be inconsistent, especially if they’ve had irregular rotations due to injuries.

Also, now that the Spurs have won a few big games, its likely that other teams are taking them more seriously. Effort- especially this early in the season- can vary wildly from game to game. 

They struggle to defend the 3 against teams who can really shoot. Warriors and jazz can shoot like crazy. They also lost to warriors earlier this year. Also spurs were 7-31 last night from 3. It happens, they’re still ahead of schedule
