[Injury] Full Replay with a better angle of Nikola Jokic’s hyperextended knee injury
Hope it’s only a hyperextension and that there’s no major damage
Sadly, it’s fatal. Jokic will be dead in 40-60 years :(
Reminds me of that tragedy.
He was in Northern Serbia.
Which is North of Southern Serbia
I walked through blood and bones…
Terrible name for an airline
I didn’t even know he was sick
When a horse breaks a leg…
The reminds me to finish the last season of Yellowstone
You gotta feel they-
Oh wrong comment… That’s on me
In the long run we will all be dead
If he was a horse we would have to put him down.
Say it ain’t so
say it ain’t so
To shreds you say
I would say so. It didnt look that bad. Hes hurt for sure. But its not like season ending. Just let him for rest for 3 weeks and he’ll be good.
Fuck yeah, he doesn’t even have to see the doc after this analysis. Good work
I can’t believe people come online and leave comments like this without being embarrassed. For his sake I hope you’re right but not only are you not a doctor, but even if you were you have no way of knowing any of that
I got flashbacks from when Zlatan hurt his knee in a similar way. Although it was during a landing from a jump. He fucked the knee up badly. Hopefully this is a lot better since there is no jump 🙏
Broken promises. …
Damn didn’t Cam Johnson just hyperextend his knee last week? Hope that’s all this is for Jokic.
Ryan Dunn too
Pretty sure the tree was the one that was hyper extended in that case
Shiiiiiiiiiit you went there!!
Holy fucking cold-blooded Batman
I don’t get it…
There’s a player named Ryan Dunn in the NBA, but there was also a guy on the cast of the show Jackass named Ryan Dunn. He died after crashing into a tree.
Oh shit, didn’t know that about the other Ryan Dunn. Know both of them
Yo
It’s Ryan did, truck. Ryan dunn is how rednecks say it.
Pretty much “dunn” I guess
Best case scenario - 1-2 weeks
Moderate - 1-1.5 months
Worst - 9-12 months (ACL)
Best case scenario is that he walks this off and is fine.
Klay walked off and ran back and forth after tearing his ACL
Didn’t Giannis have a similar injury in the 2021 playoffs and then drop 50 in the finals like two weeks later? I think we’re being a bit too pessimistic especially considering Jokic’s durability
Giannis has said he still feels the injury four years later. I dont think it’s the kind of thing you should push to return early unless it’s the finals.
Hyperextension is super painful but you can be back the following week.
It’s what you actually want from a scenario like this.
Giannis would have missed several weeks with that injury if it was the regular season, and also Giannis is a genetic freak in a way that Jokic might not be.
Jokic is a freakishly durable guy tho
I think Jokic’s durability has a lot more to do with his style of play than with any kind of genetic resistance to injury. He generally isn’t making any of the risky explosive movements that guys get hurt on.
To quote another fat legend, “Fat don’t cramp” - known power hitter, Bartolo Colon
Sometimes durability is just not getting unlucky. His style doesn’t have the explosive athletic movements that might get others in trouble but nothing stops something like this happening in any particular game except luck.
Hopefully whatever it is it isn’t something that creates long term problems. Coming back 100% even if you have to miss time is way better than coming back diminished.
Not really freakish. Its because he doesn’t jump as high and land on his knees/ankles with as much force as most NBA players. Doesn’t cut as often or violently either. Doesn’t get into many high speed collisions either. Those are the things that usually hurt oft injured players.
Giannis also said he tore his PCL and if he had reinjured it during the Finals his career might have ended. So I wouldn’t suggest playing games with an injury like that.
That’s fair, but not everyone is built the same way. Hoping for a speedy recovery, prepared for a nuggets play-in ticket
NSFW
I remember Jordy Nelson tearing his ACL in a pre season game. Landed a bit awkwardly, jogged off the field, then boom ACL tear out for the year.
One of my physical therapist buddies was telling me how sometimes athletes have so much muscle in their legs that you can’t even tell that you tore your ACL.
Philip Rivers played a playoff game against brady on a torn ACL. Still gets clowned for not winning a ring
sometimes athletes have so much muscle in their legs that you can’t even tell that you tore your ACL.
Fun fact: Hines Ward played his entire football career without an ACL in his left knee.
Dujuan Blair had no ACLs. Kind of hurt his draft stock lol.
My dad ran a large adult soccer league in my youth. We saw approximately 1 blown knee a week.
The range in reactions is astounding. And it’s obviously not simply pain tolerance. Some people feel less sensation than a mild ankle sprain. Others were loaded in to ambulances still screaming in pain.
Don’t like it.
ACL tears can be weird. They might be sore but not debilitatingly so. A friend tore his ACL in high school and just thought he’d tweaked his knee. He was good running and then when he went to plant and cut a few minutes later and it gave out. That’s when he knew something was really up.
I partially tore mine my freshman year. Ran back another game after and didn’t feel sore. Woke up the next morning ans my knee looked like a damn cantaloupe
Zach Lavine played about couple more minutes of game time after playing
Rondo finished a double OT game with an ACL he tore late in the 4th.
Best case scenario is I win the lottery tonight and also Jokic is fine.
Worst case scenario is that he is already dead
I mean that isn’t happening
Giannis hyperextended his knee a few years back and it looked nasty. Came back next game lol
Jokic shot in the gut
chef_ibocka: best case scenario is that he walks it off and is fine.
This is pedantic but a pure hyperextension injury like that is much more likely to injury the PCL instead of ACL. Recovery time is similar.
i been looking at diagrams of the knee and who knew those tendons were such little guys and buried so deeply in the joint
idk what i expected but you can see why tearing them would have such a long recovery, they’re very short and hard to get to surgically i imagine
Google some videos on ACL reconstructions. They’re fascinating surgeries. They actually don’t “repair” the ligament, they just remove the damaged tissue and replace it with a tendon transplanted from another part of the body.
ACL tears happen from lateral motion of the knee. Don’t think it’s that.
Hyperextension’s can just rip the whole knee to bits in the worst case - that’s how Mahomes did his ACL & MCL
Absolutely. A player on the college my wife works for came down wrong on a rebound non-contact and the knee just exploded. Torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus
tell that to KYrie
Lateral motion would pop the LCL which isn’t common. What’s more common is the knee moving inwards or medial from a lateral blow. ACL prevents anterior translation of tibia on the femur aka hyperextension. What happened is the mechanism for an ACL injury.
Lcl also susceptible front to back. What happened to me, though when the guy moving back stepped on my foot, he contacted and pushed backwards just below my kneecap.
Interesting. Did they mention at all if it did anything to your PCL? I learned all the anatomy in school, but it’s interesting to see how injuries in the real world actually occur.
He’s fine, he’s a fucking tank.
The fact that he is a tank is what is scary about this. Even Murray was in disbelief when he saw Jokic on the floor.
He’s gon be good
We saw that Giannis hyperextension during their championship run and he came back pretty quick
Definitely a bit different since that was playoffs. They’ll probably play it safe. Didn’t Halliburton push through a calf strain last year which may have contributed to his Achilles tear? His knee could be fine but they might still want him to take an extended break. Hope it’s nothing 🙏🏻
Crazy chunky
Highly highly doubt it’s ACL
Why are you copying and pasting the same few comments in dozens of threads? lol
You’re a dentist. Not listening to you!
Best moderate case scenario - 3-3.5 weeks
Omg that’s such a huge range! I hope it’s just a hypertension that doesn’t require any surgery!
Maybe I’m wrong, but this doesn’t seem like it would be an ACL injury. I’m sure he’ll be out a bit, but he’s not like moving forward, planting on that leg, putting all his weight on it and hyperextending it. Like Kyrie’s was and so many others you see, but who knows
It didn’t bend in a crazy way like with many of the worst knee injuries, but the fact that he instantly collapsed makes me more worried than I would have been from just looking at his leg.
Jokic is a big ass dude too
But not like Kyle Lowry
Giannis’s hyperextension against the Hawks looked much worse and that’s the only non-serious hyperextension I can remember
It was reasonably serious, yeah he only missed two games but if that was the regular season he would have missed a month at least. He was still not 100% at the start of the following season.
And it still bothers him to this day.
He murdered us in the finals after that.
That one was a bit gruesome. Jokic’s looked less severe, but he’s also putting a lot more weight down on it.
The first thought I had while watching this was to compare the knees. Jokic’s knee doesn’t look even remotely close to that horrendous shaped hyperextended knee Giannis had. Hopefully the outcome is also not bad.
Giannis also has the supersoldier serum
The armchair medics out in full force tonight lol let’s just wait and see what the MRI says.
Hyperextension is the mechanism for an ACL injury. Obviously force is the difference between a sprain and a tear.
True, I should’ve specified, I didn’t think it looked like a tear of any sort
Broken promises. ….
It would be a PCL more than ACL.
That is so unfortunate.
Dr Brian Sutterer already has a video up. His diagnosis by eye test are like 90%.
How did you manage to write this comment but not include a quick summary of what he said lol
Incredible.
What did he say?
Hyperextension or bone bruise most likely, tho not completely ruling out ligament tears
Weatherman ass report
Covered all the bases
Now I can see why he claims a 90% hit rate.
“Uh it’s any one of these three possibilities. Thanks for watching!”
What else could it even be lol. No wonder he’s 90% right
Straight to the glue factory
Jokic will be all right
Fucking pushoff that was never called. Fuck ylu refs.
This may legitimately kill the push off if it ends up being a serious injury.
Yeah, there are really so many times where a ballhandler can knock their defender back into a sea of legs that I’m surprised this doesn’t happen more often.
That was a standard chicken-wing, it’s just an unfortunate incident, stop trying to soften the sport everytime an injury happens, might as well ban dunking because I’m pretty sure that fried the most knees
Soften the sport? If anything this would give the defense an advantage, for once!
Chicken wings have existed at all levels of play for years, it’s only an offensive foul if you extend your arm and push the defender with your hand instead of your forearm
Soften the sport? Wtf?
This would be an offensive foul in the much more physical eras of the NBA. He clearly drops his shoulder and rams his defender back. Just go look at all the offensive fouls Carmelo Anthony was called for doing this exact same shit.
They’ve softened the sport giving offensive players basically every damn advantage possible. All this talk about protecting offensive players, where the fuck is the talk about protecting defensive players?
In the past, maybe Jones could’ve had his arms down to absorb some of that contact, but with the way the modern NBA has completely neutered defenders, the second your arms are in position to absorb a shove, the offensive player will sweep his arms through the defender to catch and create a foul out of nothing.
This shit is just garbage.
As far as push offs go that’s mild. Didn’t even fully extend. Nearly every single drive or jump shot leads with a forearm push off.
That being said if high fives are 3 free throws then I could see this being a foul soon.
Rational take, thank you. They both went into the same space, and then JJJnr gave a little extra. As you said, as far as ‘push offs’ go this is hella mild and not the reason the NBA has issues.
The refs had a tough call to make here considering angles, speed and the severity (or lack of) and I’m glad they held back on calling it.
Your guy need to spend new years in the gym or something. Got sent back like a flyweight
flop and momentum. momentum cannot be controlled but the flop can be. i’d blame the flop.
Quit crying baby, basketball is a physical sport and he didn’t even extend like that
the notion that the arm has to extend to be an offensive foul is preposterous.. you can absolutely blast someone with a forearm or elbow with very little extension
Average Joe
You soft ass redditards obviously never played ball irl.
This is what it probably felt like when Lincoln got shot at ford’s theater
Should’ve went to the Kaaba 🕋
It didn’t look like too bad of a hyperextension. Had something similar happen to me and there was a shooting burning pain through my leg. Ended up just being a stinger for me
Why’s it always gotta happen to the good guys…
Funny I was thinking “God why didn’t you take Draymond instead”
Maybe he’s secretly the leader of the horse mafia
Tbf this like the first time Jokic has had a major injury. And it might not even be major.
Keep allowing egregious push offs refs and this is what happens. Fuck. My. Life.
Jamal Murray has never pushed off
Official prediction is “will be reevaluated in 4 weeks”
Cut my life into pieces
Eliminate off arm push offs.
Adam’s league
What a freak injury. Ouch
Nuggets are cursed god damn
We sacrificed the entire organization to give Jamal an all star
Jayson Tatum and shai gilgeous in shambles
Hope he’s good and that it’s nothing malicious
Life is pointless and we’re all going to die
God fuck that push off move
Damn ok. This closer angle makes it look like it might just be a simple hyper extension. Hopefully nothing tore.
Fuck. It looks like it should be minor, but you never know with ligaments. Hopefully we get good news by the morning
Yeah, soft tissue injuries are always kind of a toss up. Sprained ankle? Might be a game off or a persistent problem for the rest of your career.
Goddamnit of course I have tickets to Nuggets Sixers next week. Now if Joel plays the slander is going to be endless.
Maybe just maybe we should start calling these blatant pushoffs again so players aren’t being put out of control?
Just a couple seconds before this I was looking at Jokic and thinking “gotta be careful of defensive 3s” and then Jokic kinda shuffled a bit out of the circle at the last second, possibly why he was caught a little flat footed although nothing he could have done to avoid that jab step
Just watched the thinking basketball video on how offenses are allowed more and more to charge and lead shoulders into the defense. Seems like a prime example here lol
Jokic’s horses getting ready to take him to the glue factor (ITS A JOKE I HOPE HES OKAY)
Having torn my acl 3 times (each leg then once after repair) I’m gonna say with 80% certainty this is not an acl tear.
This is fucked.
Praying for the dude to be ok
He’ll be back in a week 👍
That’s 6 weeks rehab unfortunately. So much stress and heavy usage. Weight loss and conditioning part of the process. (Torn meniscus myself)
yeah looks hyperextended, but that’s gonna take at least a month to come back
This is not the type of game Spencer Jones envisioned this morning. I hope Denver fans don’t treat him like Nico Harrison.
Lot of doctors in this thread apparently
Please just let it be a hyperextension
best case scenario: its like the 2021 Giannis excorcist freakish injury that he came back in like a week or so…
worse case: glue factory
Man, fuck injuries
Jokic got injured? 💀
Fuck
I’m no doctor, but without actual force pressing his knee backwards, I think this is probably not super serious and he’ll be back sooner rather than later. I hope I’m right anyways.
That’s quite unfortunate. Dude was having a legendary season. Hopefully no major damage.
Yeah he’s out for while. That looked nasty, GG Nuggets
It’s just a hyperextension trust me I’m a doctor
Spurs power ranking just got stronger.
Reminds me of a tamer version of the Bynum injuries. Hopefully it’s not serious.
Ugh, he’s my favorite player that doesn’t wear a Heat uni 😢
Looks ok really..hope that’s the case
unlucky teammate stepped on his foot also this teammate looks like MPJ if you look quickly
i will say to the push off truthists: yes there’s a push off. but goddamn, shut the hell up with the foul bullshit. this is why nba today gets called soft af, maybe the softest we’ve ever seen. not all push offs are fouls. absorb the contact, stand your ground, fight back. DON’T FLOP! the defender obviously flopped trying to get a call instead created the friendly fire that took out jokic.
AD is available.
Makes my heart happy that we all agree the idea of the league without big honey isn’t fathomable. Get well big man!
Looks like it hyperextended. Smh I hope he’s okay
Call me crazy but I think it could be Patellar
We need on of those reddit doctors on asap!
Doesn’t look like an ACL to me (not enough of a twist 🙏). Really hoping this is just a Cam Johnson type injury. Jesus Christ.
Second nuggets starter to go down from a push off this season. CB from Harden’s push off was the first.
They might be a more dangerous move than we thought now that we allow them with impunity.
Guess who’s getting traded for injuring the franchise.
Trade jones immediately.
If he’s out for a season. Theres no better time for nuggets to tank out of the playoffs.
I don’t think it is that bad. We need to win one more. That is why I don’t think it is that bad.
u/savevideo
Done for the season
It doesn’t look to horrible but who knows really just looks like a hyper extension frl
His knee flopped, he will be fine
Alright charge that heat player with murder
Ok, for a sec I thought it was non contact, and my heart skipped a few beats. Mind you we’re going to completely spiral with Jokic out but I really doubt he’s out more than a month.
Doesn’t look that bad, think he’ll be back by next week at the latest
Off topic - No foul call on that play?
This is one reason why they shouldn’t allow the push-off, whether it’s SGA or anyone else
