[Spears] With his second assist at the 9:15 mark of the first quarter today vs. Dallas, Kings guard Russell Westbrook has passed Magic Johnson (10,141) for seventh on the NBA’s all-time assist leaders list.
Mark Jackson next. Crazy to see he averaged 8 assist over 17 years - never missed more than 10 games in his career until final year.
Even has an 83 game season lol
It’s crazy to me that Russ just now passed Magic, took him like 5 more seasons
damn its like magic played with a stacked HoF team and russ played with a lot of mid teams as well as big iso KD and then those trash ass lakers. but all that said magic is a top 15 legend for a reason. showtime lakers also had an insane pace for their era since so long and skilled could make everything a fast break
anyone who watched Russ’s MVP season knows his 10 assist games would have been 20 assists on real teams.
and 5 rebounds alongside any center that cared about his counting stats
Gimme that
Even top 15 is underselling it. He’s almost universally considered top 10 and sometimes even top 5. A truly extraordinary player.
Good for Russ for moving past him on the assists list. A great achievement.

do you not realize how iso heavy kd is that he even made warriors run iso instead of a motion offense? and then you have harden and lebron who are best with the ball in their hands since if they don’t they just stand around. you’re a wolves fan lol why do you even care to shit on russ lol focus on ant learning to pass out of doubles
I mean KD and Harden are not a catch and shoot players. Theyre gonna try and create their own shots by dribbling and negating an assists.
Magic is widely considered the greatest passer of all time and played with Kareem and other great players.
No surprise that he’s high on the list, just like how Jordan is high on the scoring list despite playing fewer seasons than many great scorers.
westbrook is so underrated 🔥
I feel like there are about an equal amount of people who overrate him and people who underrate him to the point where it balances out to where he’s properly rated lol
I’ve seen both people who act like his stats alone should put him in GOAT PG convos with Steph and Magic and people who act like he’s been Lakers Westbrook his whole career and was never good
Overall I think the consensus on him is that the shot selection/turnovers are very frustrating but he still had superstar level floor raising at his peak with his playmaking and rim attacking
I’m surprised you’re giving Russ props AwkwardSpeech.
I don’t think anyone actually watching games in Denver shits on Russ for his play. Dude was generally great for us and would’ve been amazing if we weren’t playing him starter minutes as a vet min. I’ve got a feeling clips fans are gonna learn the same soon
Russ with self-control and a BBIQ that doesn’t plummet when his heart rate spikes is Top 3 PG. But that’s not reality, and instead the Westbrick vs Bestbrook memes are straight up True®️.
And I don’t even think the divide stems from the variance in his play because the gap in public perception for Russ is so much wider than other inconsistent players. I think it’s really about how much you value passion.
Dude would have taken a firing squad’s worth of bullets for OKC when he was That Guy on the Thunder. He kept that same energy when he was misused on the Lakers. He kept that same energy as an unc during his Clippers stint. He kept that same energy and overperformed relative to his contract on the Nuggets. And he STILL has that same energy as a 37 year old on a doomer franchise.
Westbrook’s unadulterated passion will carry his glazers for the next century. But anybody aligned with the more common 2010s/20s NBA online culture of “fuck up too much and we will clown you until you die” is gonna, yknow, clown him until he dies.
Russ is not judged objectively by anyone, including and especially a certain MIT affiliate. He is a vibes-based GOAT. Tbh I think Lamelo is carrying on his legacy lmao.
Lamelo couldn’t hold a candle to prime Russ.
Obviously but he’s a frequent dumbass that still does cool shit and is hyped up by zoomers. Just spirit, not performance
Why do people say Russ doesn’t have self control and BBIQ
You don’t average 10 assists with low BBIQ. I’ve watched Russ run an offense without having to shoot. I’ve also watch him impact games even when his shots aren’t falling in. He can make any center in the league look elite. He’s doing it rn with the Kings. You also don’t stay in the league this long with only athleticism and no IQ
He makes mistakes just as any other star, the only reason he gets more slack for it is because he’s Russell Westbrook.
You are one of the people who underrate him lmao. He was a superstar level ceiling raiser. Hes at worst a top 5 pg of all time and at best top 3
If he developed a jumper like Jason kidd or learned to be a guy not a star earlier he be loved.
im here for the Russ appreciation
Will end up in the top five all-time by the end of the year barring injury and continuing his current production.
Congrats, he’ll end up top 5 barring any injuires this year
I’M POURING HONEY ON YOU GOAT
He’s a 1st Ballot Hall of Famer. There are also major negatives to his game. These things can both be true.
Game’s changed over the course of his career and made it more difficult to roster non-shooting guards on teams with playoff aspirations but it would be cool to see him playing for some stakes. He’s such a big competitor. It’s the perfect energy for the biggest moments.
When he finishes his career top 15 in scoring top 5 in assists likely first or second in points for a pg depending on how long him and curry play for people will look you straight in the eyes and tell you he wasnt a top 10 pg of all time.
These people are insane. Westbrook is one of the best point guards to ever play the game. Absolute legend
cmon post his statline today we’re waiting on it? What happened?
