Totally agree. Castle, Harper, and Wemby are all studs and as good of a young core to build around as you could ever want. They feel very similar to OKC two years ago with slightly worse defense and slightly better offense. Really hoping OKC and SAS can stay healthy for the next 5+ years and have a great rivalry. That being said, if they could stop dad dicking us this season that would be great 😂

I think naturally Wemby likes to play really hard and at a high pace. Sort of like young Giannis, for example.

When he’s played these limited minutes, he comes in with a huge burst of energy. He’s rebounding and blocking, and moving without the ball on offense, and attacking and kicking out, and stretching the defense to the three point line, and he’s like a fucking spider that is everywhere and I think it’s his natural groove to play like that but no one can do that for a whole game

They are a force right now, I don’t think they can win 4 straight rounds this early, but next year its going to be scary

It is possible but there are always unexpected things happening.

Key role players getting new contracts they can’t afford anymore, players falling off unexpectedly or after injury, draft picks not panning out etc..

Once they aren’t clearly at the top anymore or had a bad playoff run the FO is pressured to to make moves that put them back at the top and suddenly you traded your young roleplayers for old stars and are in the dark timeline again.

The harsher salary cap makes it difficult to stay at the top for a long time.

Dont fret over his rebounds. If youve seen him rebound, he really doesnt jump much because he uses his superior length and agility to rebound.

But i do hold my breath during his offensive plays because thats when i think he is most vulnerable right now, injury wise.

I think him getting a blood clot last season really skewed people’s view of his injury history and ability to stay healthy. He’s been in the league 3 seasons. He played 71 games his rookie year and could have played more than that. His second season he played ⁴⁶⁄₅₂ games before the blood clot. So with 30 games left last season he had only missed 6 games at the point the blood clot was diagnosed. A blood clot is NOT an injury. This season he got a calf strain, a very minor calf strain that he said he felt little to no discomfort or pain from like days after it happened. Could he have feasibly came back sooner than he did? Yes, but the Spurs are VERY cautious when it comes to their players health, which is why they’re doing the restricted minutes right now. He can’t even be placed into the “injury prone” category right now because this calf strain, which was in fact minor, was the first real injury he’s had in his first three seasons that kept him out for an extended period of time, and even then he could have came back sooner than he did. I think people are predicting how he’ll be instead of actually looking at the facts.

Considering the amount of torn achilles we saw in the playoffs last year, this sounds like a smart thing to do at least.

It really isn’t, but we all knew what we were getting into. Crazy talent, competitive drive and a type of physicality never seen before… which is also the potential problem. But it’s not like 29 other teams would have passed on him because of that, and who knows how things are going to turn out in 5-10 years. For now it’s best to be extra cautious, take care of him the best we can and hope.

Like even someone who’s not a winning player (Sabonis) would look good playing alongside him. It just so happens the Spurs have…a lot of good to great players so they can weather the non-Wemby minutes pretty well due to the inherently high talent on the team.

Do you just not watch the other end of the floor? We are significantly better defensively with him. Actually his impact is enormous on both ends of the floor. He has huge offensive gravity and negative gravity on defense.

I feel like spurs play better without wemby. The guards are allowed to do their thing but when wemby is in, they pass him the ball and wait for him to do something.

There’s some truth to this. At the same time, I feel like Wemby has kind of accepted this in the last few games he’s been playing in limited minutes. He seems to want to pass more and do less ISO possessions. Even when he was on the court playing against the thunder in the last game, he wasn’t really looking to “take over” like he usually does. I think this Spurs team will be really good once they consistently prioritize Wemby as their defensive system and not their offensive system. Their main offensive system is unironically the guard trio. Not Wemby. He’s the defensive anchor who is a big + on offense. But he shouldn’t be THE offense.

Spurs play better offensively around Kornet, but defensively they go from average to elite

Wouldn’t it be more beneficial if Wemby just played closer to the basket and they didn’t run him like a wing or a guard playing above the key. The problem is the the style of play no matter the position has to be around the 3 pt line to be effective in the offense of today. If they allow Wemby to play closer to the basket the offense would still be functional. He would be so dominant downlow since no teams really guard the rim or interior properly. Also this would probably preserve his health better during the regular season.

I think for me it’s seeing a spurs team without pop. And they have a super star so they play thru him. When we’re used to the spurs sharing the ball.
