His first season with us was very disappointing. Second season his back healed and he was DPOY. Then back was bad half the season and so was he.

It’s really funny how everyone acts surprised when he’s good or bad when it’s really easy to tell how good he’s gonna be based on his back health.

I can’t remember the last time a serious dpoy discussion happened this early in the season. Just look at last year. Dyson Daniels would’ve won if he flipped six votes and he wasn’t even mentioned until halfway through the season.

It’s not completely a narrative based award, but it does play into it for sure.

Wemby’s narrative is insane for DPOY but he’s also of course a fantastic defender. Doubt he reaches the threshold this season tho

That’s because he was the runaway favorite to win last year before he was injured and the hype wasn’t specific to this season but every subsequent season of his career.

Dpoy discussions for each season don’t get serious until about halfway through the season. Dyson Daniels wasn’t even seriously talked about until halfway through season and he was six flipped votes away from winning. JJJ wasn’t talked about until around new years in his dpoy season either. Neither of them were top 10 in preseason odds. And those were two of the last three seasons.
