Rudy Gobert is having a monster season
After a superb defensive stretch from the Wolves after their shaky start, they sit at 5th in defensive rating, yet Rudy Gobert has not been getting the DPOY hype he deserves, even at 33 he has been among the best defenders on the planet.
He’s having legitimately monstrous impact, improving the Wolves defense by almost 14 points per 100 when he’s out there, 98th percentile in the league.
He’s detering shots at the rim like no one in the league, reducing teams frequency of shots at the rim by 13%, the best mark in the NBA, also by far the best mark of his career.
He’s lowering the opponents EFG% by 5%, 97th percentile in the league.
Doing all of that while also reducing opponent free throw attempts by 12.5% when he’s out there, the best mark in the league.
His rebounding has been trending up in the month of December, averaging 13 rebounds per game which is helping with Minnesota’s rebounding issues.
He’s currently single-handedly carrying the 5th best defense in the NBA, hasn’t missed a game and has returned to DPOY form.
