[Highlight] The 2014 San Antonio Spurs made a reappearance last night
Fine I’ll watch “The Beautiful Game” again.
think i’ve probably rewatched this at least 100 times since 2014
the clip of Tony Parker taking over the timeout from Pop is always so sick
i also love the clip of duncan pulling parker away from the ref and lebron
Legendary core fr
the clip of when we drafted Emanuel Gino Beeley is touching.
Only 100…?
I have honestly watched that video about once a month since it came out.
I still get goosebumps and watery-eyed. Thay team played so perfectly.
The play in the OP is definitely reminiscent of them.
Given how selfish khawaii has revealed to be lately it makes sense how he couldn’t really be fitting in SA
How can you not root for selflessness in its purest form 🥹
A lot more Splitter in there than I would’ve thought.
Same. Boris Diaw was really the engine for all those passes
classic
They’re playing basketball like it’s soccer! Amazing.
No wonder the euro (Argentina counts as euro) players thrived.
Was anyone here in 2014? We got glazed heavily on /r/nba during the regular season and playoffs and I loved every second of it .
It was called the Spurcle jerk. Good times
Bring back the Spurcle jerk
Tek de plej
Lmao I remember that. Ginobili right ? 🤣
you guys played prime lebron and he looked hopeless, he even looked more dangerous against the warriors super team with durant added
heat just couldn’t do anything at all it was pretty crazy, was like some of the most perfect basketball you could play, one guy was never going to be able to beat it
Bit offtopic but https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/1grcfs/game_thread_san_antonio_spurs_33_miami_heat_33/can0q6n/
A year earlier but I’ll never forget u/OreosOnFire’s legendary run up to game 7 ‘13 which lead to the comment above.
Tiggalo Spliggalo for an prestigidities anawards for the mostess! It can make happen, for great prohibiles and precogginations and or thoughtfor! Suck on the fuck Mike “mike” miller!
Rest in pizzahut OreosOnFire, you were softly here
My favorite non-Blazers team ever. Definitely the most aesthetically pleasing offense I’ve ever seen.
Starring Luke Corbett as….Tiago Splitter
Definitely saw glimpses of the former Spurs tonight, made me say “That’s the beautiful game right there”, definitely a huge improvement from the hero ball drive kickouts they’ve been running earlier this season, hope they improve on it and use it more.
The reason we’re on a winning streak and mostly without Wemby is this. We dont need someone to score 30 a night. As long as we can have one guy that gies off every game and move the ball thats it
Pretty sure at one point in the 2014 season no player on the Spurs averaged more than 30 minutes a game
And no one averaged more than 20ppg in the regular season or playoffs!
terrifying, pure team basketball
And then the rest of the teams responded that off season by…… trying to sign Carmelo Anthony 😂
Maybe this is what you meant, but nobody averaged over 30 over the entire regular season that year. They were the only team to win an NBA title that way and, IIRC maybe only 1-2 other teams ever did that.
That’s been the Celtics strategy the last couple years. Obviously Tatum and Brown are outliers, but having Derrick White, Payton Pritchard, or some other dude (last couple years, Porzingis possibly) drop 30 on any given night gave us a lot of flexibility.
I think it’s great that we get to see this again tomorrow on Christmas. We got some serious hoops coming up early in the day, These jerseys are tough.
It will be interesting to see how the refs call tomorrow’s game. This one was a rare example of how the Thunder should always be called, but almost never are.
Spurs are hitting their new uniform swag just as they’re getting theirs.
I’m really looking forward to that match up. Stoked to watch them in March at the Garden too
That’s what we all want to see. Team basketball.
Please more of this.
there’s plenty of it lol
The 4th Q was amazing - the Spurs played 14 in that Q and every player scored.
They shot 15-19 (79%) overall, 6-9 from three (^7%) and 7-8 from the ft line (88%) outscoring the champs 43-28, outrebounding them 6-3, outassisting them 13-6, outstealing/blocking them 2-0, with 1 TO to OKC’s 3.
Beautiful basketball indeed!
Flair confuses me…
Gives me “this game sucks: 5000hrs on record” vibes
Was at the game and the one where Victor passed up the open 3 to Keldon underneath, I said “good to great!”
The Beautiful game is ethical basketball!
i love kornet’s game, not a bad defender, does the little things, athletic enough and a good passer
He’s a huge beneficiary in a system like this. He’s been absolute nails at being in position for put backs, and any time a guard drives into the paint he’s there for an alley-oop or the offensive rebound. Defense is good enough, and he passes it around as good as you could want.
Wemby can create his own shot at any time, but at some point he needs to play in the system a little more. He doesn’t need to be a 7’4” guard all the time, or feel like he has to score 40 every game to win.
It’s kinda hilarious that the spurs have found their lob guy and it isn’t the 7’5” dude.
Kornet is a fantastic defender
Kornet is good to great for a backup at every skill you could want out of a backup big outside of switching onto guards (but he’s great at drop) and shooting 3s (ironically since that was supposed to be his one skill entering the league).
Sophisticated and ethical.
How it feels to chew 5 gum
I know the Wemby-Castle-Fox-Vassell lineup hasn’t had much experience together bc of injuries but damn the ball movement is just not on this level when Wemby’s on the floor. Ball just seems to stick when he gets it (Champagne problem tbf).
I’m guessing its harder to run when Wemby is getting double or triple teamed. Thunder wouldn’t have left Wemby open like they did Kornet in this clip.
yes but also we did see a similar play like this with wemby on the floor when he gave up a 3 at the top of the key
probably because you want wemby in the high post when somebody small is guarding him (like caruso for example)
Dropping it on the block is a Spurs staple. We stopped running the Offense thru Duncan cause he got old. We need them half court offense for the Playoffs.
That court is so dope
Five years down the line, in the montage celebrating Bonito Juego 25-26: The Rebirth, they’ll definitely have this sequence.
Juego Bonito, or, alternatively, Le Beau Jeu.
Luke “Tim Duncan” Kornet
Shook ones
There ain’t no such thing as half way crooks
Mitch Johnson should be one of the favorite for coach of the year, the improvement from last year is remarkable
Poetry
The ghost of Greg Popovich is alive and well. As is the man himself, blessedly.
He is still alive
Reread my post.
Also, RIP in peace, Pop.
I can’t lie. That court is amazing
OKC need to rest SGA for next 2games, he gonna get burnt out.
If Harper and Castle become decent shooters they are going to be right there with OKC within the next few years. Wemby plus big, athletic, smart, tenacious guards is an incredibly team construction.
Castle has improved over last year. He is still a bad shooter, but the trend is there.
I don’t recall the last Spurs starting guard that was lethal from deep. Sure we had mad bench shooters (doing Patty dirty, dude could have absolutely been an okay starter), but never our primary guys.
If either Harper or Castle develop a serious off the dribble threat, the Spurs in that instant become contenders imo.
You forgot Danny Green. Blasphemous.
I guess I should have said on-ball shooting rather than just guard, fair enough. Green was never asked to dribble too much. I would say Manu was the last proper on-ball guy that would have a good pull up threat
I had no clue they were gonna be this good this season.
No one did really. Even as a Spur fan I was very high on them preseason and thought they had the potential to be like top 4⁄5 seed good but yea you got to be delusional if you thought they were gonna be this good.
Like the team is legit taking a leap in front of our eyes. This team throughout the past like 7 game win streak is not the same team from the start of the season. And they still have so much untapped potential to figure it out with the remaining 2⁄3 of the season before playoffs.
Has there ever been a personality like Wemby before? He’s very distinctly different from guys like Timmy who were team-first winners but had no ego, cause Wemby’s ego is as big as it gets. He’s just made team success, team culture and loyalty a big part of his ego. It’s like somebody took Jordan’s competitiveness and confidence and combined it with Timmy’s team culture.
Overall it’s just kind of funny to me how many parallels this team has to the Big 3 dynasty while also having so many fundamental differences.
He’s starting to learn from KG, he wasn’t this vocal before.
That was beautiful.
That’s beautiful
terrifying
Thank you for not being on the celtics Luke Kornet. I can finally like you openly
aaaaand thats a very solid play 👍🏻😊👍🏻
“But if you close your eyes…”
Castle with a big ole carry at the 7:42 mark….
i’m probably as big a Castle fan as one can be, but even i gotta admit that he carries the ball CONSTANTLY
i honestly cringe a little and go “oh no” every time he does it but it never gets called lol
Team basketball is a beautiful game. Swing swing motherfucker.
Fuck I loved that 2014 spurs team. Most beautiful basketball of all time.
Dude gave a layup just to get the same shot smh
Open bunny vs. challenging Chet
