[Haynes] Malik Monk has officially been made available for trade.
He wasn’t already?
Kings needed to tank his value a lil more.
Just like the warriors and jk
JK did that himself
Monk has been great this year
Yeah he’s been fine and then they suddenly giving him DNPs and publicly announce for the 10th time hes on the trading block.
So yes that guys right we have tanked any value he could get.
If you called great not getting any playing time then yeah he’s been excellent
Monk is averaging 23 MPG and the Kings are 5 pts better per 100 possessions with him on the floor and he’s averaging 12 PPG. At least do some basic research before posting stupid shit.
He’s a perfectly serviceable NBA guard. Calling him great or ass are both hyperbole
No we don’t allow nuance on here, fuck outta here with that shit.
The Kings don’t like good players
same with wizards org
Unofficially, yes, he has been for a while. But now the Kings have officially signed the paperwork, got it notarized and used their wax seal to make him officially, certifiably available for trade.
“We’re bad and want him gone, but want a lot in return!” just master dealmakers out there in the central valley.
I think we asked for him for the Schroeder sign and trade but were denied.
We still have that trade exception and could take him for free.
My understanding is that it was the other way around. The Kings tried to get the Pistons to take on Monk, and the Pistons weren’t interested. Just like Schroder, the number the Kings have him at is just too high.
We sure do love our boy cash considerations
KD might want him.
Haynes is saying that the Kings are looking to get younger and more athletic. I might understand the “young” part (even this shouldn’t start with Monk), but I’m fairly certain that Monk could be one of the most athletic players on their roster.
While making up an excuse, at least give it a thought.
The new “athleticism” is strength, side to side and vertical quickness. Monk is the old athletic with straight line speed and a high vertical.
His real value is that for a 6th man volume scorer he is actually a pretty good playmaker and dangerous off ball.
What does this “new” athleticism think about Westbrook, Derozan, Sabonis or Lavine?
Westbrook checks all the boxes tbh. The other three are awful though
Russ has been pretty great this year for us. Those other 3 are probably the worst defensive trio you could assemble in the nba out if all nba players lol
Who’s gonna stop that?
Reminds me of Aflonzo Mckinnie on the 2019 Warriors who was amazing at dunking and grabbing offensive rebounds but stuck in molasses when trying to defend anyone dribbling.
I agree, that was funny considering they continue to start 37 yo Russ.
Bad time to be a scoring guard.
Cam thomas UFA this summer, mathurin and ivey rfa too. Simons powell sexton UFA too
Will any of these guys get paid
I think Malik Monk is better than all those guys personally. He is actually a pretty good playmaker, which you don’t usually get with that archetype of 6th man guard.
Frankly I think the Kings are dumb for pumping so many minutes into Westbrook at the expense of guys like Monk and Ellis.
They are 100% dumb.
Westbrook is pumping up all the bigs on the roster, which he’s done at every stop. Maxime, Precious, and Dlyan Cardwell all look significantly better when he’s on the court with them, and all 3 were end of the bench guys.
im taking powell 100000 times out of a 100 over monk. the rest are debatable
Normal Powell is definitely a significantly better scorer than everyone else as far as efficiency and volume.
But like I said, I think the fact that Monk is a significantly better passer than everyone else on the list is also underrated. Powell’s career high AST per 36 is 2.9. Monk has been above that number every year of his career and hit 7.1 just two seasons ago.
So with Monk I think I can get 80% of Powell’s scoring but 2.5x his playmaking which I would value more.
monk hasnt even been a good passer this year. even if he was at his normal standards for playmaking im still taking powell’s scoring volume and his ability to play off ball because monk’s level of playmaking is replaceable.
He hasn’t been a good passer this year cuz they’ve taken him off the ball. He is definitely an above average playmaker. He had stretches last season when he actually got real mins where he was averaging 6-7 assists per game
That has way more to do with the offense the kings run and who he has to play make with. If I’m a contender looking for help scoring, steering a 2nd unit I’m taking a look at what it would cost to bring him in. 20 mil a year is probably 5 to 8 mil too much but it’s also a trade able contact later too
Not better than Mathurin, that guy can play some defence
Shaedon Sharpe got 4⁄90. I imagine that all of the scoring guards looking for a paycheck are using Sharpe as a baseline.
Isn’t Sharpe averaging something like 20PPG on league average TS? Will have to wait and see if that deal ends up being a positive or not.
Sharpe is also young and more athletic than all those guys. Higher ceiling
Thats more the Blazers betting on him developing as a core piece.
Not sure the other teams view their guys the same
Mathurin probably will because of the great potential he’s shown as an athlete, defender, and interior scorer, particularly in transition.
If he was as good as you think he is, then the Pacers will match whatever he gets offered. But they probably don’t want to do that since they spent too much money on everyone else and paying Mathurin too much will mean the 2nd apron.
Mathurin is a better shooting and defending Kuminga. His issue is the random air headed plays, which is fixable with more games but do you want to pay big for that versus paying fair value and letting their potential play up their next contract.
If your guards don’t have the ability to shoot and defend/make the right play they won’t get paid as a top tier guard.
Kuminga’s defense grades out better by EPM, DARKO, RAPM and LEBRON. I think he’s become underrated on that end- especially since when Kerr did play him this year, they were asking to run around screens like he was Caruso which no 6’8”, 230 lb forward can really do.
Kuminga’s FT rate and attempts at the rim have also historically been higher.
What about RAPTORCUM?
Here’s the Mathurin conundrum - Is a guard putting up solid, sub All-Star numbers worth a big bag if they can’t be expected to run your offense or defend your opponent’s best perimeter player?
Shooting guards are getting their value killed in today’s CBA - it’s the same reason the Clippers traded Norm Powell.
With Hali sidelined honestly expected Mathurin to take a big step up, but his numbers seem very much in line with last year. I wouldn’t pay him a ton unless his defense is truly elite. We’re kind of in the same boat with Ivey who has the added complexity of a major injury.
Ivey got shafted hard between being in Monty William’s doghouse and getting injured at a crucial developmental year.
I honestly wonder if the Pistons regret drafting him. I don’t think either them or the Pacers are particularly happy with how their top picks from that draft have worked out. I really wanted Keegan Murray honestly.
Nets before Cam injury: 0-7
After injury: 8-12
Currently 6th on defense since the game he got injured. 30th on defense during 0-7 record. He’s had 4 hamstring injuries in 12 months.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence Pistons got better after Ivey’s injury either.
I won’t be surprised if Cam Thomas plays like 2 years on a vet min contract and then becomes the Chinese Kobe Bryant for the Guangdong Tigers
i think all (except Powell due to his age) should get a long term 15m AAV contract.
Mathurin I’d go higher on, he has potential to go past the “high usage average efficiency scorer” ceiling. Has decent size, can crash O Boards, and can play more like a wing more than everyone else there.
I’m fairly confident both Mathurin and Ivey will be retained even if the Pacers have to move money around a bit. Ivey, on the other hand, is still on a minutes restriction from his broken leg, and I’m willing to bet he’d take a moderate extension right now if the Pistons offered it.
Anfernee Simons is on an expiring contract too
Also Austin Reaves.
If Lakers somehow cannot reach an agreement with him, they’d have to settle for those listed
Honestly man idk if these guys ever will project more as 6th men for the best team
Ivey has the most upside here but he’s constantly injured… Powell is probably the most effective/best but he’s the oldest.
Like if I’m a GM do i want anyone of those guy for more than $30M per year? Like if Powell was younger sure, so maybe on a smaller length contract
Ivey played 74 and 77 games the prior seasons until he broke his leg. To say he’s constantly injured isn’t accurate. He had one major injury that held him out for a long time
I hate we have to combat this narrative because Cole Anthony is an asshole.
Alright, fair enough. I thought it was 2 injuries, not 1.
I still think my point stands. I like Ivey the most of all of those guys in giving $$$ out but again like when you get above 30 mil you gotta be a really good player.
He’s not worth that kind of money with his current production IMO. It’s hard to gauge his value while he’s playing with the second unit. He’s a guy that needs a primary ball handler which we don’t have on the bench. If ausar or Duncan get injured and he moves back into the starting lineup, it wouldn’t shock me if he earns that value by the end of the season
You might be remembering Cade’s injury as well. It shouldn’t be minimized that the Pistons are doing this after their two drafted guards both sustained brutal injuries.
Yeah, and it was a broken leg. Not like he has osteoporosis, his leg got trucked. I still don’t think he will be more than a sixth man type, but not worried about injuries.
Tbf he was fit to return but then he had a knee operation. That might be concerning for some people.
They should have traded him last last or 2 years ago when the ceiling was high lol (definitely before Mike was fired)
2 years ago, he was on the last year of the 2-year contract that he signed with us. So it wouldn’t have been exactly a high-value trade either since we didn’t have his Bird Rights.
Malik Monk has officially asked for a trade
They tried to dump him on anyone who would take him all summer and had no takers. He’s not just now available lol
Detroit is going to pick him up in Sacramento tonight.
unironically seems like a pretty decent move? schroeder replacement?
There was a three team trade that almost went through involving the Kings, Pistons, and Warriors during the Kuminga mess in the offseason. Kings local reporters stated it was essentially at the finish line, and their Pistons counterparts were hearing the same thing. So it sounded like the Warriors were the ones that nuked the deal.
yep Pistons should be all over this, they’ve got no other ball handler that JB trusts outside of Cade
I’d rather see more run time for Ivey and the Dannis Jankins (whose exploded out of nowhere) than Monk. If he replaces LeVert’s minutes, please can we have him?
Definitely would be an upgrade over LeVert. And I think LeVert’s been overhated by Pistons fans for the most part.
fork found in kitchen
Any non-core piece of a franchise is generally available for trade.
Bro we got Luka. Anyone is available.
Not every team has sleeper kamikaze agents embedded in another team’s front office willing to blow up both that team and their own career just to help their late favorite player’s team.
The sleeper agent activation words are:
Defense wins championships
What does the word officially even mean here?
Did they have to register him as tradable?
Language should matter to journalists.
He going to San Antonio
Beamteam reuniting but with churros this time.
Theres a Sabonis/Poeltl framework of a trade that might work
what’s the point. Sabonis is not gonna save us. Just gonna give some fantasy points
The point is to send Raptors’ picks to the Kings. Yes please!
Sabonis is a huge upgrade from Poetl.
He’s a former All-NBA player and his value is at an all time low. He can definetly bounce back with us as Ingram did.
depends on what you actually need
Poeltl is a good defender/rim protector. Sabonis is borderline useless in that regard.
on offense, Sabonis is ofc much much better
100% but it’s still a talent upgrade.
I never understood the obsession over “fit.” I completely agree with your statement. But, when you can trade your average center with injury issues for an All-Star calibre player you do it every single time. And after you figure it out.
People questioned Barnes and Ingram fit, they have been fantastic together. Toronto way of doing things is buy low and draft well. They don’t care about fit. Shit in 22’ FVV literally said they had one guard, one centre and a bunch of 6’9 guys😭😭😭
And I dont see another way to trade Poeltl AND get a better C back (the mavs are not trading AD for Poeltl and picks)
Exactly. Poetls value is not that high. He’s an average center. With Sabonis value at an all time low and the Kings front office incompetency, it’s an easy deal.
I await the Kings shop to have most of the current roster jerseys for discount soon
They just did a giveaway for a signed Monk jersey, so the writing was on the wall.
DeRozan jerseys are already half off on the website.
LFG
You could hear the King’s announcers glazing him for about 5 minutes last night so you knew this was coming. Script from the higher ups to increase his value.
Mavs need to make a move.
Best guard on the team getting DNPs, makes sense
I think they’re looking for more consistent defense up and down the roster. Monk gets a few blocks here and there but he’s an average defender at best.
The original beam team was just high octane scoring and Monk fit perfectly with that vibe. Most of that team is gone now.
All that’s to say that I really like Monk and I wish they would keep him a King for life.
Orlando needs to act on this. Isaac’s contract helps a ton, and the picks won’t dry up the well
There’s gonna be a bidding war for this dude.
The highest of cash considerations
Your a dumb fuck
Laugh out loud
does Wemby want more monk interactions
Keon Ellis + monk for garland benefits both teams
Toronto will be interested I bet. I saw on this on the nbatrade subreddit.
RJ Poetl Dick Ochai 1st
For
Monk Sabonis
I don’t mind this trade but I think i’d try to fleece the kings by getting Keon Ellis. Maybe attach Jonathan Mogbo or another heavily protected first to get him included.
IT would take more than 1st to take on that terrible Poeltl contract.
Holy overpay lmfao
We overpay? Toronto wins this deal?
I haven’t been keeping up much with the Kings - but why would they do this? Seems to me like they would want to stack up draft picks and young assets with high upside - don’t think the league is very high on RJ
Well, there’s a 1st rd pick and a young dick in there. RJ’s also in/near his peak age and would be able to lead them through a rebuild.
Kings need to leave Dick alone. That’s my dude
Give us Dick dammit! Kings are done with Saboner.
Pause
Play 😏
I think Kings fans rather take CMB, than Dick.
Lmao would be very surprising if CMB is moved, dude is a stud and would be showing out way more if he wasn’t behind Scottie and Ingram
I don’t watch the Raptors a ton but my impression of Gradey Dick is he’s like the worst version possible of Doug McDermott. Total black hole on offense (seriously, one of the worst assist rates in the entire league), not particularly efficient, and cannot guard any position. Seems like a very low IQ player. What am I missing?
I’d put CMB in a totally different tier. He has skills that could help any team.
Why “officially”? It’s not like the Kings GM said this himself. It’s still a reporter saying this.
Thank God for Haynes’ briefs.
Wait’ll they put their Haynes on you.
Shoulda made him a piston while they could
Old news - they tried to trade him for Kuminga in the offseason.
What could they even get for him?
Warriors need to get him asap
oh so they filed the paperwork to make it official?
Unleash the flood gates!
I DECLARE MONKRUPTCY!
Lakers… (Monk and Ellis).
Oh look, its Joe Davis of Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers greatness
What happened with Monk? He seemed like he was balling not that long ago
I was driving by G1C right as this happened. Vivek was standing on top of the arena and yelled “I declare Malik Monk AVAILABLE!!!”
2 years too late.
Crickets
Sabonis for Poeltl will that work
Guys like Monk making \(20M per year is why guys like Cam Thomas want \)40M per year.
Monk is a much better player than Cam Thomas lol. He can at least pass.
Nah man. Cam Thomas is a cold blooded scorer. Monk was irrelevant until the Kings had that good season a couple years ago…and now he’s irrelevant again
Cam Thomas is not only a league average scorer at best, Malik Monk is better than him in every single way.
It’s also hilarious that you call another player irrelevant when referencing Cam Thomas who couldn’t even get an offer sheet on RFA last year.
Was Monk relevant on the Hornets or Lakers? Monk has only averaged 16+ ppg once. Cam is 3yrs younger and averaged 20+ ppg 3 seasons. I’ve watched Cam score 40+ many times, dude is filthy…Monk only has 1 40+ game. Why is Monk getting phased out & no trade value then if he’s so good?
And c’mon dude, you know RFA deals are tough. Cap space was dry this past offseason and teams aren’t going to free up cap when the Nets might match…same reason Grimes is playing on the qualifying offer. Now tell me Monk is better than Grimes too!
I’ve never met a Cam Thomas stan, this is hilarious.
Cam Thomas is fucking terrible, he’s going to be out of the league within the next 3 years.
Lmaooo 🤣
Thomas once scored 40+ points in three consecutive games — making him one of only 15 players in NBA history to do it, and the youngest ever to achieve it.
This is the accolades of a league average scorer at best? Get a grip dude lmaoo. I’m no Cam Thomas stan tho. He has the green light on a bad team and doesn’t do much else. He wouldn’t put up empty stats on a good team where he’s actually expected to play defense
Samuel Presti if you can hear me
You think so?
What even is his value? He hasn’t really been playing well at all and the Kings are one of the worst teams in the league, if he can’t crack that rotation, probably not getting much.
He hasn’t really been that bad on a bad Kings team - he’s produced 12.5 ppg on 43%/41%/84% as the 7th option with 1.3 stocks and an ast/TO ratio of 2.18. Until this recent 5 games with 4 on the road slump he had a positive +/- for the season.
I bet he gets some interest from teams that need 3 pt shooting.
Monk is a great 6th man, and he’s been in the rotation all season for the most part, Doug Christie is just an idiot. He’s averaging 12 PPG in 23 MPG and shooting over 40% from 3 and has an established playmaking ability.
I’d 100% take monk as a pistons fan. We badly need another shooter/ball handler. He’d be perfect.
I think they’ll be one of the teams who will target him. He can play off-ball too which is useful. I think the hard part will be a trade both teams like. They’d probably like to use Levert’s salary and I’m not sure if the Kings would want that. It’ll be interesting to see!
