[Highlight] Jaylen Brown receives loud “MVP, MVP, MVP” chants during his free throw routine, and then misses, as the entire arena goes “oooooohhhhhhh”
Real JB fans know that was gonna brick lol
That’s why they were quiet during his next free throw attempt (which he made)
Never understood why they chant to make someone on the other team miss and then try to chant to help their player hit.
You don’t chant to make the other team miss though, you just make as much noise as possible. The only example of chanting I can think of is when fans were counting to 10 seconds during Giannis free throws, and that actually helped Giannis get into rhythm lol
They chanted Hasselhoff at Dirk during his free throws in 2006
Free throw merchant!!! At Shai
They were so funny with the clock and everything 😂
vibes. although when i was playing i don’t think i noticed anything outside of the court so idk how much it even matters to a pro
Oh, he noticed. Look at that shit eating grin on his face when he missed.
I don’t get why I like it when people say nice things to me but not bad things
Shooting in chants of you being mvp is a lot better than hearing boo you suck
I can speak from experience as a Raptors fan at the play-in game a few years ago the crowd would go silent during our free throws, which turned out to be a mistake because then Derozen’s daughter would scream right as they were shooting. We had like 50% FT that game and lost the play-in 😂
typical streamer getting rattled by chat
the ghost of Grant Williams still haunts the Garden
I believe in JB’s crazy fadeaway corner threes in the 4th more than him making 2⁄2 free throws
They knew too, they were just seasoning the brick.
Its somehow perfect that he missed. The complete jb experience
Followed the hair line wipe 🤌🏽
Mark of a champion!
Gotta leave everything on the court.
It be perfect if this was a needed late game clutch FT
Jaylen Brown might be the weirdest bad FT shooter in the league
He’s not really the type of player you’d expect to struggle from the line but he always has
I remember there was a short stretch where he was shooting something crazy like 60/60/60 lol
How is that crazy?! That’s consistency! lol
Probably crazy f u remove the zeros
Everyone already knows that the Celtics are pure evil
someone joked recently that, if Jaylen Brown shot contested fadeaway jump shots from the free throw line his percentage would go up
Can say the same about Luka tbh, just replace jump shots with step backs
Or full court trick shots
It’s one of those little nuances of the game. Some guys aren’t great shooters but are good at creating separation and hitting contested shots, so that makes them more reliable than some guys who are objectively better shooters. Same thing with Luka. And of course when it comes to wide open shots…a mediocre FT% is a great FG% lol.
This is the main reason MJ is probably the GOAT mid-range shooter. As an actual shooter, he was probably a B+ at best. But in his prime he could just shoot over guys with his insane lift and then in the second three-peat he perfected the fadeaway.
That’s hilarious
And True
is there a rule against taking a free throw as a fallaway jumper?
Yeah I don’t think you’re allowed to leave your feet.
Someone fact check me but that rule was made because super tall dudes like wilt chamberlain would just be able to jump and dunk from the free throw line for 100% FT accuracy.
Yeah you can’t lean over i think and jump but i wasn’t sure about going backward. It would certainly take away what small opportunity there is for a rebound.
He’s got one of the best middys in the game, I think the FT line is in there somewhere…
78% this year! 7⁄8 tonight
78% honestly isn’t even bad
It just looks worse when you watch him because his misses come in spurts. He will have a game where he is perfect from the line then he will have a game where he looks like Mitchell Robinson.
have a game where he looks like Mitchell Robinson.
I’ll have you know Mitchell Robinson shot 3⁄3 from the line last game and 7⁄8 the game before that!
Nah he’s never looked as bad as Mitch who will commonly airball FTs. JB’s misses are usually just short and bounce off the rim.
Earlier in his career he was legitimately bad like 65%. He’s really cleaned up that part of his game
A little below average these days
Him and Tatum love splitting free throws then hitting ridiculously tough shots
the difference is JT’s an 84% career free-throw shooter, JB’s only 73%
Ik ik but yk
Bro that corner three gave me ECF flashbacks
Luka Doncic will hit the most ridiculous step back 28 foot three and then go 0-2 from the line the next possession lol
I’ve harped on this in our sub numerous times: it’s because his FT shooting technique isn’t one fluid motion. My only guess as to why he hasn’t changed it/coaching staff hasn’t pushed him is he’s been doing it this way for so long but it’s infuriating because it’s very simple to fix
Nothing about shooting is “very simple to fix”, unfortunately.
When it comes to FTs, we all know there is a very simple fix, but no one will do it bc… reasons
If you’re going that route I may actually agree. You’re not gonna fuck up anything else by having a guy shoot underhanded on FTs.
Most reddit take oat
Well…it depends on what you’re trying to change. I’d argue you can change someone’s free throw routine without affecting their in-game shooting because they’re fundamentally different motions and contexts for many people (Brown included) and in some cases this kind of thing could be simple to fix - except he’s had this for years and I expect they’ve probably tried other routines for him so who knows
Now, this is just my eye test and I have nothing to back it up with but I swear most times he misses is because he does a little pause right before he snaps/releases the ball, almost like a little hesitation and with his makes he tends to not have that hesitation.
Agree wholeheartedly. The hesitation makes you much more susceptible to pressure-induced mistakes as it doesn’t lend itself well to being easily reproducible when tired and stressed
I think your eye test is right, I’ve always noticed the same thing. Maybe anecdotal but it feels like you can predict his misses by how long he pauses just before the release.
When you shoot one way for 20 years of your life it is absurdly difficult to change and most of the time isn’t worth it.
I think people would be surprised at how much the average NBA player’s form on every kind of shot evolves over their career but I think it’s fair to say that changing it abruptly can be risky and difficult, yes - but that isn’t universally the case either
Yeah like how MJ’s jumper his first 4 seasons or so was basically a long distance floater lol
This might be the only free throw I’ve ever seen him shoot and it baffles me. He’s in slow motion then just pops it out randomly. Looks disjointed and unnatural, really surprising
We need his mom to yell at him like Paul’s did. After that PP went from 75% to 85% for the rest of his career.
It’s so frustrating watching him drive a ton, get FTs, and then split them. He’s been better at them this year though.
Luka, LeBron lol
Trying to be like LeBron smh
He’s built like a body builder
He’s exactly who I’d expect to struggle
I remember being surprised how much of a terrible FT shooter Andre Iguodala is. I always pictured him as the guy that can make clutch shots and yet he’s a terrible shooter from the line
Kinda like LeBron
Can’t fade away at the free throw line, lol
He’s shooting 78%. It’s not great but it’s not bad.
First non-Tatum player to get MVP chants in a minute. Well deserved
Jaylen has had some MVP chants before. When he had 40 against the pacers in the ECF he got MVP chants.
Also Al Horford got MVP chants in 2024 Game 5 vs the Cavs lol
Wild considering he has a Finals MVP
Kyrie was probably the last one to get MVP chants before Tatum
Dennis Schroeder had that 38 pt game in 2021-2022 and got MVP chants
all star starter
at this point he might be in all NBA 1st team conversation. Lock for 2nd team
given that there’s a pretty good chance Wemby and Giannis don’t make it? I think he has a decent chance. Right now it feels like you can pencil in Jokic, Shai, and Luka, the fourth spot probably goes to Cade, and then #5 is a tossup
He’s also fighting against DMitch and Brunson, but if I had to guess Luka will also miss the game requirements.
He will get the nod ahead of them both if the Celtics finish ahead in the standings.
It’s obviously possible, but it’s hard to imagine the Celtics finishing ahead the Knicks
Ant as well
Tyrese Maxey?
I feel brunson is having a better individual season than cade. Team record in the end may decide if it’s brunson or cade over each other. Jaylen is having a better individual season than both considering narrative but I think Knicks stay ahead in the standings.
I do think whoever of those 3 don’t get it the other will be talked about as a snub. Today I think it goes by record so brunson and cade but if jaylen continues his pace and celtics end 2 or only back from 2 by a couple games I could see him getting it.
Cade feels like a guy that’ll get snubbed from 1st team honors if all 3 are neck and neck due to jaylen and brunson being bigger names rn
he was awesome this game but i can’t lie, that was funny as hell
He’s been awesome all season. I really did not think he was gonna rise to the occasion filling the other J’s shoes but he honestly has. This team has been entertaining af.
JB having one of the funniest seasons
Completely understandable. Although he’s not getting the MVP he should be a lock for All NBA 2 team
i remember a few years ago he made a FT in the 4th quarter and the crowd popped so loud. i commented about it and a celtics fan responded saying “well he usually misses those”
He just got the franchise record for most 30pt games consecutively and this is what yall talk about?
Miserable much?
Ya always gonna get more clicks throwing shade at a Celtics player than trying to give em props.
Never been a fan of a great team/player before?
It’s a good thing when r/nba is hating
Love this guy
It’s like Wii sports!
lights were brighter than expected
Scal and Drew are so good.
I think it’s quite impressive that this Celtics roster is good. JB has been carrying this team all season.
yeah that’s JB
If he ever improved his FT shooting he’d score 35-40 points a night easy
Thats the most boston shit ever.
Maybe he should rub a little black hair tar on the ball
I keep thinking that of these days home crowds will realize that making noise during their team’s FT routine is a bad thing
Never change Boston.
This is like when your boy fumbles as soon as the baddie starts feelin him
Giannis life
new soundbyte unlocked lmao
nothing like him and LeBron going to the line when you need it most for guaranteed 1/2ish
Basketball chants are so bad. Chanting MVP for a player not even in the conversation for MVP is pretty weird to me.
I went to a Wizards game when they had Montrezl Harrell and he got MVP chants lmfao.
Still putting up MVP numbers
is he a legit mvp candidate right now?
To Jaylen’s credit, he’s been balling. He still can’t go left or really handle all that much. But he’s not shying away from the pressure or exposure. I’ve actually become more of JB fan this year than previous years.
Stop acting like you watch basketball cornball casual
MVP chants have gone crazy lately and have made it lost meaning
Couldn’t fit a needle in his butthole with a jack jammer when those chants started lol
This dude was struggling getting them 3to go in. Damn
He set the franchise record for most consecutive 30pt games.
You saying Damn about the wrong thing.
All I’m saying is it would be super funny if Brown won a MVP before Tatum even came close
Tatum been top five in voting several times
Tatum will be top 5 voting every year he is healthy, i also don’t think he’ll ever win it imo
Throughout his entire career he will average out to be the 7th best player every year (1st/2nd all nba) and that’d be fantastic
it’s not hard at all to imagine him finishing outside the top 5
I don’t consider top 5 close really only top 3 and if we are being honest really only top 2
Then your comment doesn’t make sense on like 5 levels lol
That just makes your previous comment that much more asinine.
Twice. Don’t try and church it up dirt.
Why would that be funny? Doubt Tatum cares as long as the Celtics win championships that’s all that matters…
He doesn’t have the assist or rebounding numbers to win MVP. He has a ceiling of top 3 in MVP voting.
Shi if the Celtics have a good enough season at some point he could get lucky and just win by the best player best team criteria.
Seems unlikely with Jokic/SGA/Luka/Giannis all playing
yea but really the only scenario in which i can see him winning mvp
I mean there’s a 0% chance the Celtics have the best record this year so it’s still a ridiculous idea. It will be SGA or Jokic 100% unless they both get injured
That’s why i said “at some point” didint think it would apply to this year.
They would have gotten free Chick-fil-A if he made both….
I don’t know if this is true because I made it up
Lmao imagine getting mvp chants vs the pacers
I hope now everybody knows that he always was the Celtics best player
Bait used to be believable man…gotta do better than that.
I wonder won the fmvp between those two. Would be interesting to know
Which one led the team in every major statistical category for the entire postseason run?
I wasn’t aware a 5 game series>Entire postseason run.
Find a new slant, this shit is tired like your asshole.
Who won the fmvp again? Would still be interesting to know and right if thats not enough who won the ecfmvp that run too? Another interesting thing to know
Must be blissful to only see in singular platitudes
Quiet, weeb
Following in Kobe’s footsteps as one of the best sidekicks of all time
I hope he doesnt. Dont want Jaylen to become a rapist
Those flairs are backwards that’s wild
Jason Kidd, is that you?
Brown was always the Celtics best player.
Tatum has the flash and pretty boi looks so people assume he’s better.
Brown is the blue collar plays both sides heart and soul of the team. He’s the engine.
Why are people like this
Because they like the exterior of the person. Nobody cares about what’s inside the person.
Like comparing a Mercedes to a Toyota Camry.
Mercedes will turn heads, but once you break them in they are a constant high maintenance vehicle that needs to be repaired.
The camry won’t get many looks, but you know it will be reliable if you take care of it.
Quite simply im a Quality over Substance kind of guy. 👍
I’m so confused. What does “quality over substance” even mean? Isn’t substance a good thing? Like usually it means the opposite of superficial.
It’s the strategy of saying enough confusing shit that you could sound correct, even though you aren’t.
What?
Disrespectfully, you’re incorrect
I can live with that.
You will see over time who was correct.
Remember Mercedes vs Toyota. Time will prove the better buy.
I have watched them both play for 8-9 years and I can tell you that I am correct.
We all have opinions. Believe what you like sir.
lmfao
This guy prefers Mercedes over Toyota.
How’s that 300mil asset in the mechanic shop?
My Camry is running strong and smooth.
Brown>Tatum
If you want to hate on Tatum, hating on him for his durability is probably the dumbest angle you could possibly take. Guy played the most minutes and games of any player since entering the league until a freak injury that could have happened to anyone
Never hated on Tatum sir. I just think Brown is the better overall player.
My point is simple if you understand cars.
Tearing your achilles is a car accident in your dumb analogy and could happen to either a Toyota or Mercedes.
Car repairs man.
Not talking about getting in a accident smh
Tearing your Achilles is a car accident not a maintenance item, you don’t even understand your own analogy
Cmon man stop playing dumb
This sub is dumb af but you take my year end award of dumbest comment I’ve found on Reddit this year.
Congratulations. Everyone who read your comment is now dumber just for reading it.
Thanks
Not a compliment.
Please look further into your opinions before your claim them.
Everyone who actually lives in Boston adores Tatum for being lowkey. And JBs biggest criticism is his ego and possible antisemitism
You’re talking purely off the court sir.
I’m specifically talking on the court.
Also this wasn’t meant to take shots at Tatum. He’s a great player, but Brown plays both sides at a high level. The guy literally won Finals MVP and people think he’s this Tatum sidekick. No he’s actually the best player on the Celtics.
I’m pretty sure if you asked NBA players the majority would vote Brown over Tatum. Real hoppers know.
So that’s why Tatum was first team last year….
I’m done engaging an ignorant troll on Reddit tho…
Happy holidays you fuck!
Tell the family I said hi.👋
why do we have to keep doing this 🤦♀️🤦♀️
Respectfully I been saying this long before the Finals MVP. Brown is just a better overall player imo.
No. He isn’t.
The championship run netted him a FMVP for doing the “flashy” work of taking on Luka while JT did the “blue collar” work of leading the team in every major statistical category for the entire postseason run?
You keep returning to this incredibly flawed car metaphor and it’s genuinely disrespectful to both players.
Compare their minutes played over the last 5 seasons, their +/- and how the team swings when they are on and off the court.
If you had any interest in reality, you wouldn’t be making this moronic and tired assertion.
Both are great, C’s fans are blessed to have landed both and watched them develop into stars, but this rhetoric is flat out bullshit that wannabe talking heads pushed years ago to try and drum up noise to get JB traded first.
Not you again
I know it’s you JKidd.
I think they both are superstars. To say people only think Tatum is better due to flash is wrong.. Tatum is known for being the most hated on player in the league due to his lack of “aura” and stiff play style yet he remains first team all nba, top 4 in mvp (only behind players like Jokic,SGA, and Giannis).
Brown receive more love than Tatum so your approach is completely wrong. Go do your research on why some may consider Tatum the best on the team however, your opinion on brown can be valid too because he is just as good but dont give him his flowers by diminishing Tatum.
Players around the league believe Brown is the better player. The fans believe the opposite. Tatum gets Nat’l commercials and is viewed as the Franchise player.
Players around the league believe Tatum is better also though. They are wearing Tatum shoes, talks about him in interviews, the media hates on him which shows he is important.
You think your opinion is right but your point can be debunked every time. Again I’m not arguing who is better because I can care less, it’s just lame and false when you come on here saying lies. Name the players around the league who thinks brown is better? Like brown said “state your source”
Why didn’t Tatum win Finals MVP?
😂 man here we go.
Jaylen brown was snubbed of an All nba team. It was a big thing in the media, brown had something to prove and played some of the best basketball of his life and earned that final mvp. I’m not a brown hater he earned that.
How is that a knock on Tatum? That’s like asking why is Tatum 4x consecutive first team all nba and brown has no first team? why did Tatum lead the league in scoring in 2023 while sharing the ball with brown becoming the first ever Celtic to avg 30 in a season when they both shot 20+ shots a game so it was equal opportunity for brown to avg 30 and be the leader. Why did Tatum have to drop 51 in a game 7 with the back against the wall, why did Tatum drop 46 in a game 6 elimination game in the road against giannis and not brown? Why did Tatum lead that team in every statistic in that finals win and not brown? See how dumb nitpicking sounds? 🤯
You mentioned nothing about defense…
That’s kind of my point. Both are all-nba caliber players, but Brown clearly has the edge defensively. Overall I like Brown slightly more than Tatum for that reason.
Once more, you’re wrong. Your opinion is incorrect, not just differing.
Show me the last time JB guarded 1 through 5 for an entire series and negated the opposing teams entire offensive gameplan outside of “Luka go score”
Multiple times this has been analyzed, the lob threat aspect of Dallas’s offensive was rendered null by JT’s defensive IQ and versatility.
You just keep being wrong.
Then stop replying
You keep being wrong so it seems you continue to think you’re not mistaken.
But you are. So people will continue to tell you so.
Find a new slant.
Once again, you’re jumping from making these vague assertions with no evidence other than your subjective opinion and then trying to loop in “evidence” that you are flat out making up out of the ether.
This guy
Empirically untrue. This is a tired ass slant people tried to play when “splitting the Jays” was popular.
You’re talking out of your ass.
Why are you even entertaining this if you heard it before?
No need to say anything if it’s untrue.
