I remember those two guys, back in my day we always said “you’re the Point Guard, you’re supposed to GUARD the POINT, NOT THE KEY.” Speaking of keys I was stopping by my daughter in law’s house the other day to drop their spare keys off after house sitting, fine woman for my fine son - never got him to try out for the basketball team despite my best efforts, Coach Paul never thought he had it him. That name reminds me of my first wife, Pauline, first of three in fact, lord help me, whenever we’d sleep in the same bed sometimes she wouldn’t know which end of me was which if you know what I’d mean and I’d say “Pauline, it’s IN you!” Oh we had some good laughs the two of us but then she was off to the Kentucky derby, meeting some jimmy quick fucker betting on horses. The dames all wore the biggest hats back then. I could see her long peacock feathered cap fading into the upper decks just to get “shown the view from up there” and I knew things would never be the same with us. Not the worst thing that’s ever happened to me in Kentucky believe it or not, one time I was out in Louisville checking out an old classic Louisville slugger (if my son wasn’t going to be a basketball player, I would make him a baseball player yet). And guess who I run into? Artie Swissinger my old college rival. He’d always slick back his hair with his two timing boys and shake down my barbershop quartet. But you know who did have some good luck at the barber shop? My son did. Met his wife and my now daughter in law there when her pappy was cutting his hair. He used to give him the worst cuts. I always thought her dad would make the cuts a little uneven to stop my Georgie from stealing his daughter away. He must have got his hair cut there twice a month just to get a chance to chat with her - silly kid barely even had any new hair grown! Sometimes he’d just ask her dad to blend it in a bit and that’s where her dad took the most liberties if you catch my drift. Always a looker my Georgie was despite never getting into either basketball or baseball. Not the sporty type but he knew his way around the ladies and I’m proud of him for it.

At first I was going to say that seems a bit high for Shai, but its probably about right. Derrick White, Jalen Suggs and Cade Cunningham are the other notable defenders I can think of. Unless there is someone else I’m missing, Shai seems pretty clearly better than anyone else. Its not a deep group of defenders though, since that position is usually heavily focused on offense.
Its really just Suggs. White hasn’t been that good plus hes not a real PG, Cunningham doesnt sniff Shai defensively (or offensively or in any part of basketball for that matter)

Well you’d be suprised how many times I see Caruso and Dort foul players and they don’t get called for it. It’s abysmal officiating if I’m being honest so I can’t put to much blame on them, but there are foul, sure a lot of hidden fouls that they do but ones that not everybody sees
Referees miss calls. Players get away with fouls. People just notice it more with dort and Caruso because they’re going into games looking for it (or just seeing clips on Twitter/reddit). Refs aren’t just intentionally missing more calls for Caruso and dort than they are for any other player.

This play is exactly why I stopped listening to Jason Timpf from the Volume podcast. In his pre-season player ranking, he stated that the defensive playmaking of Luka and Shai is about equal. He gave Luka the edge solely on offense playmaking. This was an L analysis, knowing SGA can do this type of stuff and even did it last season as well.
Shai is really underrated defensively, and am tired of people downplaying him on that end.
To his credit, It took him all of two weeks to realize his mistake and do a complete 180 on that take, and now he believes Shai is comfortably ahead of Luka at the moment

SGA’s defense is really underrated as a defender but also think he’s much more of a SG than PG. I think he’s more like Wade or Kobe (who both had 6-7 assist seasons with slower pace and less points) where he’s a PG but not a true playmaker.
I think he’s a point guard like Kyrie or AI but really just an all-time 2. His defense for a 2 is still really good but for PG’s it’s up there as one of the best for a scorer of his caliber.
He brings the ball up and initiates the offense more often than not. He doesn’t average 10 assists like a pg like Chris Paul but he creates so many advantageous situations where he draws multiple people and initiates a swing swing that turns into a good shot, and Shai doesn’t get the assist but the thunder got a good shot because he created good offense, and he does it without hardly ever turning the ball over for how much he handles it. He’s absolutely the PG for the Thunder, but I agree with the other comment about the game being position less. Just because he’s the point guard doesn’t mean that sometimes JDub or Ajay can bring the ball up and create something, but Shai is the engine of the team
