Nikola Topic, who was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer on October 30th, seen in pregame warmups before OKC’s game against the Clippers
He STARTED chemo less than two months ago, what a fkn beast
That BEP cycle is no fucking joke I lost like 80 pounds in 2 months during that shit
I did BEP too. I didn’t lose a lot of weight, but it fucked my body up for years. This is extremely impressive. Hopefully he’s got a good support system and is not pushing himself too too hard.
I did BEP as well. Only one cycle but it fucked me up for about a year after. Also I was out digging holes on a groundskeeping crew two weeks after because I didn’t have sick time. Love America.
But he probably didn’t get prescribed Bleomycin as it’s usually not given to athletes. I think they usually do an EPEP cycle, which generally has more side effects but doesn’t affect the lungs.
I did my BEP stint. Curious how your body was affected for years. I just got my four year scans and I’m still in the clear and the chemo didn’t really affect me long term that I can tell. Tinnitus is real. But that’s about it.
More life to you and congratulations for making it through brother, I hope you’re doing better now. Please stay healthy and let’s keep fighting🙏
If anything I put on a not insignificant amount of weight during my couple months of BEP after the orchiectomy. Holy shit did my body feel fucked up for damn near two years before I finally felt back to something I’d consider normal.
What a beast is an understatement. Watching him do this is incredible.
I’ve gone through several rounds of chemo in the past, I know every treatment is different but this man’s mental and physical fortitude is truly on a different level. Hope the young fella heals up quick, going from a year-long ACL recovery to this is so absurdly horrible that I don’t think i have the words to describe it
My mum went through many a’ rounds of Chemo for Leukaemia back from the start of 2017 to about christmas of that same year and she didnt recover to her “normal” self until 2019⁄2020. I agree 110%.
ACL to Cancer is absolutely brutal.
When he plays his first game at home the crowd will cheer like never before, I hope
It’s not that deep. It’s basically saying the same thing as “some things are more important than petty sports rivalries”
Huh. Did you reply to the wrong comment?
Yep 😂
Fair game. Its all good man
To be fair, chemo for testicular cancer can be one round. I’m not saying it’s not impressive, but Nene had a round of chemo for testicular cancer on February 21, 2008 and was back in action on March 24, 2008.
If it’s stage one, then you only do one cycle usually. Phil Kessel didn’t even do chemo. It’s riskier obviously but you can decide not to do it at all.
Yeah. People generally don’t do Chemo if it hasn’t spread outside of the testicle. Some do as a precaution. If I’m Topic and have a huge guaranteed salary (relative to normal people, not necessarily in the NBA) and full health coverage, imo doing a round of chemo as a precaution even if it’s not necessary and brutal for a couple weeks.
If it had spread, he could have finished a 3rd round of chemo and just not have had that big of a reaction. Everyone responds differently to chemo. Some can’t eat anything without throwing up and can’t move for weeks. Some barely notice at all.
Dude is built different. Most people can barely get out of bed during chemo and this man is out there hooping. OKC really might have another generational talent waiting in the wings.
Ah, so I assume he’s the bald one. Thought that was Caruso
I’m no Thunder fan but with this guy’s struggles so far with injury last year and cancer this year I hope he’s able to have a great career
On one hand, I agree completely. On the other hand, it’s pretty cool that he’s the only guy in the history of the NBA to have a ring without playing a single minute in the NBA.
If OKC wins again this year, Sorber would join him.
i mean staff always get rings , sometimes all the staff (down to the stadium’s front office), albeit its usually a cheaper version of the ring
When the cavs won they made like 1000 rings
Yes, but those people weren’t rostered players.
True that. Very happy he got one! (My favorite ring design so far too and not just because I’m a thunder fan.)
The best ring design in recent memory is from the Texas rangers. It just so happened they were the best playoff road team of all time and their opponents initials lined up to spell road as well, which is obviously on the ring.
You obviously know what the commenter meant
collin gillespie got one without playing, though he’s played since then
Yeah. But he was on a two-way rather than on an actual NBA roster. Fair point though.
But then Topic would be the only player with 2 rings in 0 minutes.
Patrick McCaw got 3
What? McCaw played for a lot. He also played in all 3 playoffs.
This young fellas been through some shit these last few years, agreed.
Can’t not root for this guy.
It’s so wild that everyone has to put disclaimers on anything that remotely praises OKC lol. Like “I don’t condone their actions but…”
Its ridiculous, it doesn’t make you any less of a fan of your own team
They cant admit they like us lol. I find us so hard to hate unless if were facing your favorite team. But yeah people are nitpicking us so hard.
You can’t be serious lol. You guys flop horrendously and play very questionable defense. For years for both. No one likes that shit.
Ohh wow yeah our team definitely is the only one. Our team the only team that does what you guys hate. Im glad you feel so justified in your opinion. Like you guys haven’t completely ignored statistics just to push your brain dead narrative.
I watch the Thunder play lol I have eyes. You guys play a very unlikeable brand of basketball from an objective standpoint. You subjectively not believing it doesn’t remove Shai’s flops or Hartenstein’s dirty defense
Lmfao alright master baiter calm down. Im not reacting to that trash ass opinion. Unlikeable brand of basketball lol.
Alright bro go back and shuck your corn or whatever is done in OKC for fun
I shuck your mom on my timeoff. Dont make me put you in timeout.
I love when this happens because it’s like… doesn’t even matter where you are from. You’re both on reddit arguing tonight, so don’t act superior here
Do you have to preface that you’re not a thunder fan before being a good person?
I think it’s to show support from ppl outside OKC fan base sorta thing, really emphasize it’s not just OKC fans that feel for him
I think the Cavaliers flair would cover that, as well as covering that he is not a Thunder fan. You don’t have to be a fan of an opposing team to say good things about their players? I love Donovan Mitchell, I dont feel like i need to say “im no Cavs fan, but i like Donovan Mitchell”
U definitely don’t have to say it a specific way, but I understand his intention. If u don’t, at least u do understand he was trying to be a good person and that should be good enough 👍
He’s not wishing him good health (that is implied), he is wishing him a great basketball career, so yes the context that he is not a thunder fan actually matters. If he said “I’m no thunder fan but I hope he doesn’t die of testicular cancer” then your point would stand
You know you can be supportive of players even if theyre no on your team, right?
Yes, and that’s the statement people usually preface with “I’m not a fan of the team he plays for but”
But he was wishing him a good career because of the health issues he has faced, it wasn’t because he likes him as a player? Declaring that you’re not a fan of the thunder is absolutely pointless if you’re hoping one of their players can overcome adversity
yes
Don’t worry he’s gonna get the young bald white guy hooper buff
Glad Alex Caruso can show him the way how to best use his newfound bald powers
Poster dunks incoming.
nobody cares if your a fan or not we don’t need your stupid disclaimer
Hes so young he should be able to bounce back
Thunder have two first rounders that haven’t played for them yet and Clippers are about to hand them a lottery pick for the next two years. Shit is wild lol
They’ve had such weird luck with draft picks lately. Chet, topic, and sorber all season ending injuries before they even played a game.
I mean I don’t really count topic as we knew what we were getting with his already torn ACL
But he was supposed to be good to go this season and then got injured again, which then allowed the doctors to notice the cancer. So a blessing in disguise really, but a second injury after the ACL was not something the Thunder would’ve expected.
the injury was doing a biopsy to get a diagnosis. he’s unfortunately only missed time due to his cancer diagnosis this season
They’ve got the sixers curse
You can’t say Chet was bad luck he was a super important piece on a championship team. Imagine if wiseman turned into Chet
idk how that was the main thing you took from that comment and not the obvious commentary that okc literally got 3 first rounders in a row who were injured their rookie season
I took some shrooms sorry
everyone is looking at you and they know you’re high
Enjoy my guy. Screw the other comments. Nothing wrong with a little release. It’s always a good time for me.
NIGHTMARE NIGHTMARE NIGHTMARE
Sorber is going to be so nice to have off the bench next year, I like JWil but sorber will make us not miss the Chet minutes as much with his great defense/length
Who’s the other?
Pick 15th Thomas Sorber. Projected as a lottery pick in many drafts
Oh yep remember that know, I was hoping we didn’t pick him, he’s on the Thunder though so I’m sure he’ll be good
He had a foot injury, which dropped him out of the lottery before the draft, and now he’s out for the ACL. The Thunder can afford to take a flyer on a guy like him, but it makes sense for other teams to pass on him.
Sorber
Thomas Sorber
Sorber who was the 15th pick this year, gonna miss the entire season due to a torn ACL
Thomas Sorber. 15 overall, young tall lanky center.
Something that you just don’t see is that they could draft four rookies, 2 lottery if the Utah pick conveys, in the first round and would still have 80% of the roster that played in this past championship. This team could come back and be the youngest team in the league and still have championship experience. They would come into the season with 5 rookies if they did that. It want happen, but the fact that it’s a possibility is crazy.
My favorite part is that this year’s pick is the last one from the PG trade. Next season’s Clippers pick was actually conveyed in the Harden to LAC trade.
wtf. I forgot about Sorber too.
Let’s make sure to keep the comments in here on Topic
Thanks Woody Harrelson
Anyone here have a question for me about rampart?
Lol
Just pushed a light breeze through my nostrils reading this.
Just full on laughed shortly reading this.
Versus… nuts?
This league isn’t ready for Hot Topic
God help you all
regardless of what people think of OKC, this kid deserves to show everyone what he’s capable of and Im hoping he just recovers well and can go crazy when he returns
Wish discussions weren’t so toxic where you wouldn’t even have to mention how people feel about OKC
fire name
I prefer Topic Thunder. I know who I am!
Everyone’s freaking out about if OKC will or won’t get a top 3 pick via the Clippers next year, meanwhile their 2nd overall pick IS fighting his way back into the league once he’s done kicking testy cancers ass.
FTA and OKC might be running the league for the next decade in a way that hasn’t been seen since MJ 😭😭
I had testicular cancer, with 2 surgeries and 3 rounds of chemo, and played pickup and mens league during the chemo, so I feel qualified to comment here.
This is EXHAUSTING. Going up and down the court once feels like running a 5k at this stage. If I shot 20+ shots in a row I needed to lie down. This guy has great mental resilience, I am cheering for him!
Glad you’re alright now my bro!!
Poor kid, I hope he recovers cause he was a prospect I was really excited to see play one day.
Hopefully he has a long career - deserves an iconic nickname as well.
topic thunder is right there but you gotta pronounce it wrong
Hot Topic
Yo? I thought he was out until Feb at least
He’s still out but I believe this is the first time we’ve seen him on the court
Light exercise is good regardless, hes def not gonna play but being around the bros and light exercise does wonders for the body
Don’t think there ever was an official return date set for him, but January or February has always been a possibility
they mentioned he’s been participating in practices and still training through chemo, absolute unit.
we probably wont see him soon, but it’s incredible to hear.
How tf does he have energy to do this after chemo?? Beast 😤😤
Felt like you could see some of the fatigue at the end of the video after the drive.
Really rooting for this kid. Keep fighting.
I get dizzy standing up from the couch, I can’t judge anyone else
Cool to see. Jalen Williams said this about Topic a couple days ago:
“He doesn’t come in like, ‘It sucks.’ He’s going in, working out and shooting and trying to get better, which is insane to me… He’s been really strong about the situation. He doesn’t feel sorry for himself.”
It sucks seems reasonable lol. But i guess pro athletes are wound a bit tight.
Awesome news
Great news, luck has not favored him much since he came to the NBA.
TRTopic
Amazing that he’s back on the court
Can someone explain why I can’t see any video from any post? It’s always this triple double of travels perpetrated by Grayson Allen.
Gotta update ur app, mine was stuck on bane pelting OG with the ball for no reason
That’s a pretty hilarious video to get stuck on, though
Yeah ngl I let it rock longer than I would have otherwise
Bane pointing for possession after pinging the ball off OG makes me laugh every time.
That did the trick! Thanks !
It’s a bug it just happens to be that video for you. Other people have the same thing happen but with different videos taking over everything
Thanks
FUCK YES HOT TOPIC IS IN THE BUILDING
Don’t think there’s many harder paths to the nba
Serbian guy, acl tear missed season 1
Cancer misses season 2
Dawg
I got diagnosed back in April, I did 4 rounds of the BEP cycle and by round 3 I just felt like a zombie. Rooting for him, absolute beast to be participating in warmups assuming hes probably done 2 rounds by now. Hopefully his recovery goes better than mine. I just had RPLND surgery 3 weeks ago and will have to do 2 more rounds of TIP starting the first week of January. Cancer fucking sucks.
Rooting for you!
Keep fighting. Stay strong. You got this, man!
Rooting for you
Wow spectesticular recovery! 🙏🙏🙏
Hate to see this happen to Toker
Been praying for him!
Good to see he’s healthy, chemo is no joke man hopefully everything works out and he can live happy and injury/illness free. I can’t wait for this dude to actually get to play.
Hell yeah dude
Needa order my Topic jersey to support the bro! BEAT CANCER!! We’re rooting for you!! Blessings Nikola!!
How does one detect testicular cancer?
The Movember Foundation is an Australian men’s health foundation and they have a guide on what to look for if you’re interested:
https://au.movember.com/men-s-health/testicular-cancer
Okc has a Disney storyline now are you kidding me
It’s not fair to the guy but every time I see his name it makes me think: If Jokic was trending on twitter and you clicked the link, Nikola Topic would be the title of the page
Regardless of that idle thought though this is legitimately crazy
What a fucking beast! FUCK CANCER
May he have a full recovery and long career!
equal parts sad and reassuring. godspeed
Hope he prioritizes his health over the game, tbh.
The kid is super talented, I hope he wins every battle.
Awesome. I want to see this kid do good and I’m glad he’s out on the court doing stuff.
dudes a fucking unit this is what dreams are made.
When we have to lose Caruso, we have another bald GOAT to take the reins.
These early life struggles may very well be character building. I’m pulling for this young man.
Balls don’t lie
Uniballer of the Year
Hey STOP, I don’t want to have a reason to root for OKC
The One Ball Baller
“This summer, the only ball he needs is the one to win it all for his team…”
That’s nuts man.
