Bruce Brown reveals that he planned to sign with the Lakers for 3yrs/\(50M after the Nuggets championship until the Pacers called and offered 2yrs/\)45M
Now he’s on a minimum so he actually lost money in this exchange
Roughly 2.7m lost
I feel like it was still worth it though. He basically took a 5% cut to make his money 33% faster. Sometimes it’s not about how much you make, but rather how fast you can make it.
Yeah definitely the right move unless he knew he was secretly ass 3 years ago, which is unlikely.
Both responses are people unfamiliar with the time value of money. Idiots
I wouldn’t call people idiots for not knowing something that isn’t even taught in most schools
Time value lost over 1 year isnt that significant.
This response by someone unfamiliar with the value of LA taxes
Bro, the time value of money for nba players is usually the slower you get it, the longer it takes to go broke. Time value of money is for people who understand what to do with that money when they get it. Nobody is an idiot for not knowing the concept. The average person has no concept of it.
It wasn’t if he isn’t able to make the same amount overall.
He makes that money back from the s&p alone not even doing any fancy investments. He got more money sooner why is everyone in this sub dumb
there’s also taxes lol. California taxes would have slammed him whereas he’s probably chilling in Indiana
We’re all wondering the same about you.
Maybe to broke people but this is an NBA player. lol
When you’re dealing in millions that can be invested you def want to make it as quick as you can. Plus it better hedges against the risk of an injury voiding some money.
This is what people are missing.
At any moment your career could be over and their earning potential is essentially gone. I dont think people realize the weird reality that I have to amass essentially all my money by age 27⁄28 for most.
While the extra year is nice if I was a role player screw you pay now especially with that stark yearly difference and bet on yourself.
Which is why all.this deferred mlb money makes no sense
It makes sense because the teams would not be offering the same money with deferred money. So it’s either you receive less money earlier and you invest it yourself or let them take care of the problem
If you care that much about money that will never affect your actual life, you’ve failed.
Wym will never affect your life?
How is the difference between 45 and 50 million dollars going to change your life? What can you do with 50 that you couldn’t do with 45? Nothing. You’re just stacking money for the sake of stacking money. Which means you’ve failed to make a life worth living on its own.
Help your family members/future generations
50 million is already generational wealth if you don’t blow it on ridiculous nonsense.
There’s probably lots he can do with more millions. Pretty sure he has a kid/child support payments so pressure is on to be financially wise.
Yes, its so hard to pay for a child with tens of millions of dollars.
It’s a financial strain he’ll have to deal with for the rest of his life. He was going to be hooping for those three years anyway, why not do it the right way.
Players go broke that have made way more money than brown all the time. There’s tons of people from their families and communities looking for a piece of that pie. Obv 50 million is plenty to live the rest of your life on comfortably, but if you’re giving a lot of it away buying people cars and houses and shit it goes fast
If you blow more money than entire generations of most families could ever hope to see, that’s on you for being an idiot.
I don’t think it’s that simple. I don’t know shit about Bruce Brown so I’m speaking in more general terms now but a lot of athletes come from poor backgrounds and feel a lot of guilt about being the one that “made it out” and then give away a lot of their money to people from their old community because of that. Happens all the time. Plenty of them are also just idiots that blow it on dumb shit but just because someone blows through 50 mil doesn’t necessarily mean it was for frivolous purposes
Yeah but think of all the things he can buy with 50 million instead of 48 million! Can you imagine not being able to invest that extra two million? Might as well be a poor!
LA Tax
Only like 60% of it would be taxed by California, the tax angle is really overblown
The tax is like 10% so he would have been taxed about $3 million for those 3 years so it’s actually quite a bit
He gets to play with jokic and earn the next fat contract instead of magically losing his shooting on the lakers
Fool me once and all that, I don’t think he’s getting another fat pay day again, even with a Jokic bump
Not 20m, but 10m is entirely possible
What?
He’s making 2.5 so he got like 47.5 vs 50
He said in the same podcast that he asked his financial advisor to start looking for property in L.A. and that it was very expensive.
So he got his money faster and didn’t have to spend extra to live in L.A.
Is he on the chickey nuggies again
Would have helped instead of D’lo in 2024, but we were still mediocee and were a second round exit at best.
On the other hand, no D’Lo
Amazing but true: Every single NBA Finals team in the history of the league has one thing in common: No D’Lo on the roster.
Bruce Brown is not worth that contract he’s another dude who got paid because he had the benefit of playing with Jokic.
Worked out for the Pacers. His overpay contract helped the money work to land Siakam
Love you Brendan. But that hat looks ridiculous
They dodged a bullet
Thank god because I would’ve hated him for that
you would’ve hated a role player just trying to make his money?
This shows how “mid level” player can get paid on rich short term contracts from team below the cap that must reach the floor payroll, to than be used as human trade exceptions. Bruce got his money, the Pacers got Siakam.
Mid level player is crazy when in fact Bruce brown was killing it and players like Jokic said he missed his on-court defensive ability
I meant what some people call “the middle class”, not a max player but above the MLE. Those guys that, allegedly, get squeezed under the new CBA
He’s either inflating the number or that means it would’ve been a S&T with Denver as that is way more than the NTMLE which was all the Lakers had. Curious what the trade package was if that was the case.
can’t do a s&t though, nugs didnt have his bird rights
Aside from the Pacers landing Siakim…
How much did Bruce contribute on the court during his time as a Pacer?
Cost of living in California so much higher. So it is even more money than just the numbers itself. It’s wayyyyy more money to take that Pacers contract. Better taxes, better purchase power. Less Supermodels but hey, can’t have it all.
ANOTHER HYPOTHETICAL WIN FOR THE LAKERS HANG THE BANNER
Cash is king lol
Buddy thought he was the main entree
He would’ve been sent to Dallas with street clothes. He made the right choice teaming with Jokic again this offseason
Highly doubt we would take Bruce Brown in in the AD trade
…. Highly doubt the Mavs would have traded Luka so 🤷🏾♂️
those cowboy hats are so douchey on those guys lol
Lakers problem. They can’t afford anybody
Bruce Brown is a worse Terance Mann. He has completely underperformed since that championship, even taking into his injuries into consideration.
Yet still clearly better than Mann
Now he’s getting minimum wage well damn
You replied twice in this thread. I think it’s past your bedtime.
these podcast hosts look very Republican
They’re wearing the cowboy hats because Bruce wears them
What the fuck does that even mean?
They avoid politics for a reason, but every now and then their real feelings sneak out, and they’re definitely not Republicans.
