Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg talked about what he wants his impact to be at the team’s Christmas event: “It’s the first city I’ve played for (in the NBA) and God-willing the only one.”
You should be ok the bad man is gone now
Ownership still exists
And the ownership would trade Coop because…
Let’s be real, the decision to trade Luka 100% came from Nico thinking it was a good idea
There’s no way a team’s owners don’t have final say on any trades involving superstars.
the owner’s paid nico to be the fall guy and take all blame and its been working perfectly. i wonder if people ever take a moment to just think sometimes
Maybe instead of a big conspiracy the simplest answer is the correct one. The Dumonts simply were not that experienced with the NBA and trusted the GM who had a good reputation and pitched a big splash (which most new owners, against most advice, want to make as soon as possible to put their stamp on the product).
DING DING
That relies on Nico being that bad of a GM which prior to the trade he showed that he can build a finals level roster with Luka. Whatever the plan was it probably was money related like it always is.
How about an even simpler answer. Cheap fuck owners didn’t want to pay a supermax plus whatever luxury tax they’d end up paying.
So what makes ownership better now in your opinion? If they weren’t experienced enough to not blindly trust the GM last year, are they suddenly experienced enough after 1 year that this won’t happen again?
Did this one trade make them so much more experienced in your eyes that they aren’t a concern anymore?
Dumont has expressed regret about the Luka trade. Nico never did and tried to reframe it as part of some grand “vision.”
There’s a learning curve for a new owner in Dumont, just as there was for the Pistons owner, Tom Gores, who seems to have learned from his past mistakes of trying to make big splashy moves (like the Blake Griffin trade).
All signs point to Nico simply being a head case who hated Luka and was obsessed with Anthony Davis. You could tag me with a RemindMe! 5 years but I don’t think the owners going to fuck up the Flagg situation in nearly the same way. The Luka trade was a once-in-a-century colossal fuck-up.
These billionaires have convinced you that they hold no blame because they’re bumbling fools who “are just so silly and helpless when it comes to basketball”. That’s the dumbest lie I’ve ever heard.
Can you honestly say that it was Dumont’s idea and not Nico’s given all of Nico’s snark about it? If Nico was forced to do it, I imagine he would have come out and said something even more now that he was fired. The owners are definitely still accountable for blindly following the dumbass GM.
the doesnt explain dumont sneak dissing luka after the trade. an uninvolved owner wouldnt have the direct insight to be able to say the things he said
i actually think this is the simplest explanation and least conspiratorial
It does because it wasn’t a “sneak diss” in Dumonts eyes, it was just him speaking plainly about the reasoning he was provided for the trade. He’s a businessman and this is the first time he is having his comments publicly analyzed by millions. He’s talking like it’s an investor call.
dumont implied but didn’t directly say that luka wasnt of the same cloth as guys like MJ, Bird, and Kobe. thats a sneak diss, quotations not needed
he also consistently brought up character and work ethic
that is not an investor call
Do you even know what an investor call is?
Dumont also brought up Shaq’s work ethic as an example to be emulated. That interview made it obvious that he was just throwing together words about basketball that formed coherent sentences and that he didn’t actually know just about anything about the sport.
Yeah this theory would make more sense if Nico didn’t have a documented history of hating Luka and sabotaging him
Ehh he also lost Steph curry for Nike. Nico has always been an idiot
Yeah thats what I am wondering how you came up with that conclusion. Everything points towards Nico yet you are saying gibberish and people cant think? CLOWN
Oh the irony
Luka had a gigantic super max contract extension coming up. People acting like Dumont had nothing to do with it and that it was all for Nicos All-Nike team are dumb.
They have final say but they will leave the management to the manager.
Which leaves them open to be bamboozled by the Next Nico that steps walks in.
The ownership had the final say, they just did not know anything about basketball and Nico had convinced them it was a great idea that would make everything amazing for them. That situation could happen again but seems unlikely.
Nico probably dangled the 100 million savings for not having to sign the supermax and the owners just immediately obliged.
And you’d think ownership has learnt their lesson… maybe…
But the ownership knows so little ball they believed Nico when they approved the trade lol
They don’t have to “know ball” to understand assets
Yes they do. Or else they’ll just believe what their GM they pay is telling them. And trade Luka
Bro they got sold that Luka couldn’t play defense and wasn’t a cultural fit. They didn’t understand the Mavs or our fans enough to realize the backlash of that decision.
Ownership had to sign off on that. You know that.
No one is saying they didn’t sign off on it. God damn fellas it isn’t rocket science. This trade never happens if Nico doesn’t pitch it to new owners that know nothing about the NBA. Ownership takes fault because they approved it, but this was Nico’s baby. And all signs and interviews and leaks lead to that lol. If this wasn’t a Nico move, you don’t think we’d know that by now?
They may not have known the NBA but they 1000% understand business and you don’t get talked into trading your prize asset(ticket sales, jersey sales, etc..) if they took 20 mins to look at the data they would know that they had a SUPERSTAR.
Well you just said it, if they’re these smart business people, why would they trade Luka? Because it costs them hundreds of millions of dollars. My favorite thing is when people say they were too cheap to pay him a contract when it literally doesn’t matter because nearly every team pays a full salary cap anyways lol.
Depending on the pitch, AD is a huge star too and if the goal is to win a championship that would bring a lot of money too.

Oh they certainly approved it, it’s all the ensuing ramifications that they were clearly clueless about
Because he’s ugly? idk
You still believe that fully………
Or ownership doesn’t want to supper max the guy
it cost the ownership millions. i don’t think they want to lose millions again
The owners will definitely skip giving Cooper Flagg the max to fund Trump’s third term
“You’ll be fine, Tony soprano just killed his most faithful henchman for you. That should solve everything, there’s no way he’s the problem.”
What’r you talkin about, they got DLo, it’s about to be a problem (cue the hype music)
<3
Everyone in Dallas expects Nico to join the lakers in the next few months.
texas BBQ still there though
Where in America would you say the best bbq is?
Texas bias but Texas.
But Tennessee and Memphis are pretty good too. Havnt tried the Carolinas yet. But heard good shit
Thanks Does Dallas have a spot you think is a can’t miss ?
Hutchins, Hurtado, Terry Black’s
Thanks I was planning on visiting some family in the summer I’ll try to make sure I stop at 2 of these.
A few but I’ll let other throw recs
That’s messed up
Luka used to say the same thing 🕊️
Every player ever says that they want to be with their current team for a long time.
Except our boy Kawai 😥
gluttony man :(
Hmmm I wonder if anyone thought like this in Dallas earlier
bro doesn’t know that the ghost of Nico haunts Dallas
Unless you get fat!
Cooper Flabb
feverish mavs fans visited by three ghosts this christmas: dirk, luka, cooper
What Nico did will haunt star players for at least 10 years
Be careful what you wish for young man
I love him. Mavs please don’t ruin this for me.
You’ll get a trade for the left ACL of Giannis in 4 years and you’ll like it
Just don’t do anything stupid like win the conference Finals and try to enjoy a beer
Wasn’t Luka injured during the Christmas game last year? Then Niko traded him because of that injury?
Nico is gone, think you’re gonna be okay
I wonder how many comments will be here making the same joke
Bad news, Nico’s ghost just traded him for Julius Randle and a top-45 protected second-rounder
Ownership is evil. They want to sports wash their evil
Good job reading the room, rook.
Flagg for Brook Lopez who says no
The Mavs could use Podz and Kuminga to pair with Klay!
lol
Hmm think someone said that a few years earlier too lol
This needs a NSFW tag for Celtics fans
How’s his defense?
Pretty damn good actually
body fat?
Surely this won’t age poorly
Nico still getting strays
In 6 years we’re gonna trade LeBron for you after they hire Harrison Nico as a GM
…until the Mavs move to Vegas
Don’t give me hope
He is gonna be a Laker if the Mavs do their job and develop him right
For a brief moment we all thought he would be playing with Wemby
He’s not fooling me. Hes going to Boston one day
God willing? Dude you’re from Maine.
of course he wants to play for the dallas magaricks his whole career
He LOVES big bitches.
I say from experience that you don’t need to be in Dallas for that
True.
Dallas women are more keeping up with the jones, than our neighbors down south in San Antonio
Dallas is the LA of Texas
Austin is San Franscio
San Antonio is kinda its own thing
Houston is like Mexico Chicago with great food
San Antonio would be the San Diego I guess idk
I kinda agree. Gas light district kinda similar to river walk. They only have one sports team
That move to LA by the Chargers was so sad.
There are no guarantees, I do think Cooper flagg is safe from being traded. Nico Harrison would have definitely traded him for James harden or kawhi Leonard in a win now move because they fit Nico culture better. But you still got Dallas with those new owners so you never know, they might trade Cooper flagg.
Future Laker
