Oklahoma City has to go 50-6 the rest of the way to break the Warriors 73-9 record
I just don’t think it’s going to be broken. Their schedule gets tougher. They’ll be random cold shooting nights, too.
They gon get every team’s best shot
Most sensible guy here. Everybody acting today like their team won a ring, they really expected them to go undefeated while everybody is giving them their best shot.
I never saw wemby like this tbh
Wemby was a monster out there tonight. He wanted that win so bad. Everyone wants to take a shot at the king. And rn whether you like it or not, that’s the thunder.
I like it
They also want that 500k from winning the nba cup!
King of flopping basketball
Lmao made me laugh
Add a flair.
Tbf this was a cup game also
I really hope the Warriors put an actual effort into defending their legacy, even though it’s just Steph and Dray (and possibly GPII??) from that era. Need to see them play with a spark lit under their asses for once
GPII? lol
Still got Steve Kerr tho
Gary Payton was not on that team lol
Never?
I dunno man Wenby hates Chet tho
Jazz will rest everyone every game
Yup we saw this with the C’s in 2024. Every game they came to play. No days off.
Same as the Big 3 Heat, yup. It was remarkable that team put together a 27 game winning streak getting everyone’s best shot - the game they lost to the Bulls to break the streak absolutely had a Game 7 feeling to it.
i think its the opposite tbh, or at least was. after last night, wemby probably lit a fire in a lot of players and proved it was possible. every team will be going after the thunder now.
They still have to play us 3 more times!
They haven’t even played the Nuggets yet and they’ve only played the Rockets once. These are the three teams that really have a shot imo.
The 96 Bulls lost to a 17-49 Raptors expansion team and the 16 Warriors lost to a 12-51 Lakers team. You can’t be so certain of the outcome of every game in a 82 game season.

edit: If OKC has a similar inexplicable loss to an awful team this year, what team is it going to be?
The Clippers. Harden will go off for 43 while Kawhi adds 28 and the Thunder don’t have an answer for Zubac.
Of course it will be the Clippers, and ironically the pick will still go over
Portland?
We’ll get em again.
just a quick glance at our schedule, March 18 Brooklyn Nets is a good contender for this, second night of a back to back after playing Orlando lol
I remember that Lakers game was a team building loss. Draymond’s bday was the day before that and the team went out, everyone was hungover
Bulls - Raptors played in the Skydome in front of my than 36,000 fans that night. Bulls were without Rodman and the Raps played a short bench…
Clearly the Bulls or Warriors are taking down the Thunder at least once…
Lakers with 2 of Lebron, Luka, or AR are going nuclear outside,
Theres always a outlier loss in their to pistons/knicks could possibly be 2 others
And other teams as well. I can imagine a fully healthy Lakers and Timberwolves team can also beat them. I doubt they break the record. The season is too long and unpredictible.
It’s almost like setting the record for the best NBA record ever in a season is a difficult thing to do!
Do you have data to support that claim, my good sir?
pretty much all of our games against the good (as of rn) east teams are on the second nights of back to backs lol
As a Nets fan, the scheduling for that KD team was crazy. That second year a vast majority of our televised games were on 2nd night B2B’s, while it felt like the other team hadn’t played in 2 days.
It’d be like “PRESENTING… half of the BROOKLYN Nets who went into double OT last night VERSUS a fully healthy Lebron/ AD lakers who’ve had 3 days off!”
I just always wondered why they’d schedule any marquee game with any team on a 2nd night B2B. It doesn’t matter what team it is, it’s just bad for the product. Everyone wants to see both teams at full health going at it. Not one team getting blown out because half of them are sitting or dragging because they’re exhausted from the night before.
Schedule marquee games on the 1st night of the B2B and let the b-squad duke it out with the 12 seed on night 2.
next time we play the spurs? second night of a b2b. actually have 3 b2bs in the span of 11 days this month. and when we play the spurs in February? also the second night of a b2b after orlando! and when we play #1 detroit? also second night of a b2b after toronto! and the knicks? second night of a b2b after Chicago! and then a knicks/detroit b2b!
most of these are nationally televised lol we are being set up so bad i guess the league is tired of the east is the least narrative and needs us to lose a couple this year
they’d likely lose a few of these anyway but it sucks knowing there’s a chance we won’t get their best performances
The outlier loss was probably Portland tbh
I mean my dumb team has already beaten them once, there’s no reason to believe that just about anybody else has at least a chance.
don’t throw the Pistons in any category the Rockets aren’t in
Lakers can beat them too
If we hit our shots, contest without fouling, and trade for Giannis
Slipping a minor detail in the end there.
Yeah. They have the Nuggets 4 times left, Rockets twice, and Spurs twice (edit: 3 times). Good chance they split those Denver games 2-2 which means they’d have to go 48-4 in the remaining games.
Spurs 4 more times, not 2 lmao. Their schedule is really tough
3 more actually, split the difference lol. 4 total games, first was tonight
Yup and all their nuggets games are later in the season when AG and CB are back and chemistry is better so it’ll be interesting to see potentially a WCF matchup.
We saw the WCF tonight
Possibly! The only reason why I’m a bit hesitant is they’re still quite green but you never know.
Much as I’d love to believe that, a 7-game series benefits veteran teams a lot more than single-elimination. Right now I think we’re where Houston was last season. We’re gonna have to take our lumps.
But winning the cup would still be a great feather in the Spurs’ cap this season.
lol bros a little cocky already
What about the Portland Trailblazers?
They played the Nuggets on opening night Edit: I have severe dementia
They played rockets not nuggets
No, they didn’t. They played the Rockets opening night.
That was last season. This season they played the Rockets on opening night
They played the Rockets on opening night
Blazers one more time hehe and we beat them without a 7’4” alien (basically our championship)
4*
We basically gonna have played a playoff series vs u guys before the playoffs begin lol. We play 2 more times in the next 11 days.
I’m rooting for you guys to beat the record, or at least stretch the possibility out as long as possible. I only start watching the league in general in the last 15 games of the season or so, before that I just watch my teams games, and I would love to see the thunder fight to get the last few wins they need
Ehhhh it’d make entertaining basketball for sure. Would unite the league against us and have the media coverage spike through the roof. I just don’t think it’s feasible. 70 would be a great achievement.
Four more times
And Trail Blazers one more time
Rockets 2 more times too. They won in 2OT on opening night because KD sold.
*11
4 more in the regular season, and a 7 game playoff series. People will predict OKC in 5 or something but I’m accounting for the 3 games we shoot 20% from 3 and JDub turns into Josh smith
Cupcake schedule ends thursday
Honestly just blow it up and rebuild at this point
You can probably get Anthony Davis for Shai.
AD for Shai and the Clippers 2026 first rounder, its the right thing.
“Defense wins championships!”
Still time to tank for flagg
It ended today
lol
Ffs I wish we played the lakers instead
Unfortunately for OKC, they’ve had one of the easiest starts to the season for any team in NBA history
lol so unfortunate for them to be 24-2
Right? Bad teams beat good ones all the time over 82 games. We’ve had all these trap games and dropped 1, still impressive imo.
Unfortunately?
Unfortunately they might be 36-5 instead of 40-1
Thier schedule is going to get much harder and they aren’t going to get to 75-7 or whatever
Unfortunate that people are being misled by that record as if they don’t have all their hardest games coming up only now, is their point I think.
Edit: spelling
lost against Ant less timberwolves btw
Didn’t y’all lose to us twice 🤔
oof
No correlation
You have the same record as another ECF team that lost to us without Steph, Draymond or Jimmy.
We didn’t have Draymond, obviously Ant is more important, but acting like we were fully healthy and lost that is funny. People love to try to make a sick burn and convienently leave out anything that would ruin it. Nice!
I dont know man they are a really tough and deep team. Beating the record would be difficult but not impossible, I think it depends on whether they truly want to go for it.
They’re still on pace for 76 wins. And given the pt differential they should get there if they want. I just don’t think they care that much.
The Warriors went 36-2 btw
like they lost their 2nd game after 36 wins?
when did they lose their 3rd?
No, they went 29-1 then 29-2. They lost their 3rd right after 36-2. The point is, 24-2 OKC needs to win the next 12 to keep pace now.
No chance, the already played all the tanking teams mostly real games left
Idk 4 left against denver is tough wanna see how that matchup looks this year
Denfers soft and overrated
They have the hardest schedule left
They do have the talent to do that, but their schedule is really tough.
In terms of the top 5 teams in the league (other than them) they’ve faced the Rockets once (double OT win opening night), Wolves once, Lakers once, and now the Spurs once.
They have 4 games against spurs remaining
3 against the Rockets
4 against the nuggets
3 against the wolves
3 against the Lakers
2 Pistons
2 Knicks
So they have to go at least 11-6 in these games without dropping a single other game for the rest of the season on something like a road b2b.
4 against the spurs does this game not count?
they play the spurs 5x this was a extra game
Damn they gonna lose 4 more
This is an extra one because of how the cup played out. 4 originally scheduled, then this one.
There’s not a sliver of a chance they go undefeated against the rest of the field. They’ll drop at least 2-3 (probably many more) to random bad/mid teams. Every team is capable of getting hot and stealing a win. Look at the warriors 73-9 season and almost all of their losses were against non-contenders.
Toughest remaining schedule in the NBA too. It’s not happening.
When you get closer every team plays you like a game 7 to
Already been like that
Yep the warriors near the end of their 73 win season had to really sweat out some wins, it was not easy even at the end of the season.
The scrappy young teams see it as a chance to prove themselves and the experienced/contending teams don’t want to be another notch on the belt.
It’ll be a lot harder when they’re not playing poverty teams every night, just like how it was tonight with the spurs.
Tbf we had a death period of 15 games last year with all good teams and lost maybe 1 or 2 games in it, I don’t think we get the record but I think we win the 1 seed with room to spare
The easiest schedule in the league is gonna catch up to them
Wishcasting hits so hard after you see one loss
Right?
He’s acting like the refs won’t go into hyperdrive to compensate for the schedule!
I don’t know why, but I dislike this team enough to where I’m rooting against them breaking the record. I didn’t do that to the 73-9 Warriors even though they were breaking my teams record. That Warriors team was infinitely more fun and likable
Warriors were not called for moving screens which gave them open shots is much more palleatable than OKC Hacking/Pushing/Punching TF out of your team while NBA refs call the softest fouls on you for daring to play defense against them.
Bending the rules to do something cool like open up a Steph 3 will always be much more palatable than bending the rules to do something lame like get free throws on offense or interrupt a cool play by hacking people on defense.
yeesh
I thought this and the Cup Finals don’t count as official games. Or do the semifinals teams just play one fewer game against each the rest of the year
only the finals i believe
Tonight’s games counted as regular season games. Only the Cup Finals doesn’t count.
Don’t worry refs will be there to help
Big if true
Their point differential says they should still be able to break the record. The only way they lose games is if they shoot under 30% from 3
jdub lol… he shot them out of this game
His hand is still not 100% he grabbed it a few times after shots.
Doesn’t make sense that he rushed it after already being ineligible for season awards.
Spurs shot well below their avg on 3s this game too
Agreed but Thunder were wayyyy lower than you’d expect and they need the 3 more than the spurs do with Wemby
If your offense relies so heavily on 3s you are open to variance like this. OKC didn’t have many great looks from 3 so it makes sense they had a tough time.
They don’t rely heavily on 3s. They needed to make a few to keep Wemby out of the paint but they couldn’t tonight. They had more wide open 3s than the spurs according to spectrum
Sometimes it doesn’t even take that. I remember last year the Lakers went into OKC and beat them by 30 cuz the Lakers shot like 60% from 3. Nights like those are bound to happen in an 82 game season.
Let them try. Hope they burn out in the regular season. The way they play is gross, favorable calls on defense, favors calls on offense while trying to free throw merchant. 🤢
saying this as a fan of a team with luka and ar is legitimately delusional lmao
I dont think people remember how many wins gstate pulled out of their asses that season. Its insanely difficult to replicate that again.
Easy schedule to start the season too
They have to go 50-3 against the rest of the nba
They still got to play the Spurs 4 more times, Nuggets 3x, Rockets 3x and any assortment of teams where they just have an off night. I just don’t think it’ll happen.
that’s why records are usually broken most of the time
No chance, they still haven’t played Nuggets, Knicks, Cavs, Pistons and still have some spurs games left. Maybe even thrown in Lakers
They still have all of their regularly scheduled Spurs games left
Wild to think 49-7 would not be enough
Not happening
And here comes the posts lmao
I mean it’s doable
but wouldn’t that go against the perkins wisdom
We can settle for 69 and be dank
They won’t
Waiting for that one loss to post this hahahahhaha
Important context to remember: only two teams broke the 70-win threshold. They started 38-3 and 37-4 through the first half of the season. At least two other teams went 37-4 or better, but they both stalled out at 69 wins.
In short, that’s how tough it is to win 70. You eventually cool down after your hot start.
The Dubs took a dive for one of those losses too. Check it out. They lost to the woeful Lakers in March in LA. Kind of a parting gift to Kobe.
They also lost a game against the wolves where shabazz Muhammad went for 30+. Weird things happen
That is how math works. Yes
I think it’s possible.
No team can beat em other than the Spurs and they’re not playing em 6 times nor losing them all.
Spoiler alert: they won’t
The warriors were 50-5 at one point so it’s possible
They have played make a wish teams majority thus far. 😂
it aint happening. it wasn’t worth it for the dubs, and it’s not worth it for okc. just focus on staying rested and win your ring.
Warriors had the Spurs pushing them all year long right til the end of the season.
We wont see the record broken again unless something similar happens.
I always thought it was crazy people thought they would break the record. It’s nearly impossible to do. Thunder are a great team, but you can’t assume they’ll win 70+ games
Anulo mufa
It’s fuckin hard to do what the warriors and 96 bulls did…
So?
I wouldn’t place money on OKC beating the wins record, but I do think they do it.
50-6 is, of course, insane. Their current pace is 48-4.
Assuming health, of course, it might come down to just how big OKC’s lead is in the West in the final month and how much they play their starters.
Got my doubts they get the record. Also have my doubts any team can beat them 4 times in a 7 game series.
Not sure why they’d even want to break it… it took its toll on the warriors. By the end of the playoffs they were all gassed. If I’m OKC I’d rather cruise to a 1 seed fresh for the playoffs rather than kill myself for the record.
Not impossible tbh. Don’t think it’s happening and I expect the thunder to start resting starters towards the end of the regular season.
If there’s one thing to take away from the 2016 warriors, it’s that going after the wins record at the expense of your starters’ rest is not worth it.
#TheyDidTheMath
Thanks for doing the math for us.
Ofc it’s not going to fucking happen.
I can’t believe people watched what they did in the regular/post season, along with this year’s easy SOS, and somehow thought this team was going to beat GSW’s record.
Frauds!!
Whether they break the record or not, they’ll continue to play unethical bball and be unwatchable
And thats a lot of pressure to manage the rest of the season
They have had a cupcake schedule to date. The real test comes February / March.
Its okay as long they dont play against a .500+ healthy team they are good.
This was our first loss vs a +500 team lol 😂 we were 6-0 prior
Damn that record is crazy when you think about it.
Steph man. Top 5 all time imo
They have no chance. They aren’t going to be able to feast on bottom feeders the rest of the way like they have so far. The Spurs are the first team they have played that is great on both sides of the ball.
the rockets weren’t the first team ? kd sengun Amen ? not to mention the length that team has to cover… that game also went to the wire
That was their first game ever as a unit
that’s okc without being healthy & that game was still a nail bitter.. KD fits anywhere , team still the same with better shooting, Kd a plug in & play type of player , unfortunately he sold that game for them in The clutch
Houston also missing a starter and again there very first game together as a unit vs a team that’s been together for nearly two years, also yes Kd sold
Yeah exactly the thunder are unproven against good teams and in high pressure moments. Only teams that win championships have good offense defense.
wait…
