Jaylen Brown challenges a streamer to score a point against Jordan Walsh for a 10-day contract
Lol there’s definitely levels, because streamer honestly doesn’t seem half bad, but Walsh is hardly trying and his ability to just poke that ball out effortlessly is insane.
Yeah I mean obviously, also he’s like a foot shorter
But he has clearly practiced and played a lot
Being super generous saying a foot
Kid is like 5’9-5’10
I looked both the heights up. 2 feet.
Not sure what you exactly looked at but I did too. I said what I said. And Walsh is 6’6. If there’s a 2 feet difference like you claimed, the other guy would 4’6. That makes no sense.
My bad. He’s 5 foot six.
He’s not 5’6. Google has no idea what someone’s height is.
Here he is standing next to 6’7 former NBA player Nick Young. His head is right under Nick’s nose. https://www.facebook.com/61558771230696/posts/ray-x-nick-young-/122172975524292374/
He’s legitimately around 5’10-5’11.
Ok
that streamer would beat at least 95% of the people on this sub 1 on 1
Probably 99%, and I’m part of the 1%….. That would die on the court
Stop bro. Just stop. The streamer is not good. If you don’t play ball I’d rather you say that. I’ve never understood ppl speaking so confidently about losing.
Bro for real I just looked it up 😂 the streamers name is ray and he’s 5’6 lmao like I guess his handle doesn’t look terrible but how tf are people saying he’s “good” or that he’d beat 99 percent of the sub… cmon man
Because 99 percent of this sub are redditors who don’t play the game even at the Y. No one is saying he’s good. Just better than expected especially with his size
Very confident statistical analysis here
We quantifying streamer and Reddit sub users stats now. Anyone offended by the op is incredibly funny
lol exactly. They sound so lame
he is better than 95% of people on this sub. whether you consider that good is relative
Fr lmao he looks like total cheeks. He’d be ran off the court at most parks
Are the people in these parks the majority on this sub? Most of this sub has the reputation of not even watching games let alone playing it
It’s so funny because the streamer is probably better at basketball than 99% of Reddit.
Insert Scalabrine quote…
It’s actually kinda crazy how easily he gets a hand on the ball.
I know it’s a kid, but he’s barely moving his arms
There was a clip of Jeff Teague playing a podcast host where he was poking everything, and it’s not like he was known as much of a defender. Guys at that level are so good at making reads it’s crazy
And in that video, Jeff shot one of his 3s left handed, contested. And it was nothing but net lmao. People really don’t understand how insane these nba players are.
Its the BBIQ that is the biggest difference.
They know what moves theyre going to do for the most part
lol a podcast host and it’s gillie da kid. I’m officially too old for this sub
Yeah, it’s also because the average hooper to them is basically slow-mo. Every NBA player is basically Steph level shooter, Kyrie dribbler and Lebron James athleticism if you threw them into a local gym.
It’s like the average hooper playing against a middleschooler
I really want to know if there’s some drill top tier pro/colleges use to practice defensive poles, because I had a roommate 10 years who played in college and the overseas pro ball and Germany and he wasn’t even bigger than me and this is what it looked like the few times we played pickup, and I was a high school pg Guess I shoulda asked back then
I’m sure there is, but these guys just play so much high level basketball against guys just as good as them or better constantly that they probably have to pick up on this stuff or they would just never make it.
They’ve probably seen whatever basic moves these podcasters can do millions of times.
I remember playing my brother 1-1 and I got 2 quick buckets using the one move I had. The next two times he blocked my shit and that was that’s.
And we were dogshit kids just messing around, never even played rec ball.
So yea , I’d imagine guys that have played 10,000 hours have see every single move out there
It’s just an experience thing, it’s like when you play against a 10yr old and you dont even have to do anything but just stand there really. The kid is gonna think they’re hitting you with the nastiest new move they made up, but you can just see it coming from a mile away because you have so much more experience.
Obviously there’s some technique to it like just keeping your “stick hand” in the path of their crossover, but yea generally it’s just that the game operates on slow-mo anytime someone is much more talented/experienced than their opponent. A good varsity team vs JV, the varsity kids just steal the ball every play
There’s a clip of Marcus Smart doing a camp with some high school kids a few years ago where he talks about how to time your steals with the rhythm of the dribble.
He’s the same age as Walsh lmao
I mean the streamer is older than cooper Flagg lol. He’s like 21
NBA players average height always make me forget how tall they are to the average person
For sure, especially with someone like Pritchard on your team. My girlfriend always thinks he’s 5’9” or so, and I have to reminder her he’s actually slightly taller than me.
I don’t understand why people are blown away by that quote. It shouldn’t be a shocking concept that a mediocre NBA player is closer to LeBron than my unathletic ass is to him.
Idk my best friend growing up was also an Olympic skier, so maybe I just always had an appreciation of how much better the best of the best can be from normal people.
I don’t think people are necessarily blown away by the quote as much as just using it to make a point
There are a lot of delusional sports fans/players who believe that they could do okay against pros
Hell plenty of people think they could beat a bear unarmed
I mean definitely true there a bunch of male golfers out there that think they could beat a LPGA player only to get shit on for example.
And that’s one of my frustrations about the WNBA. Like yeah Michael Porter can say that because at 14 he was still one of the most athletic people on earth. These dudes that average 6 ppg in high school pretending they could go full Juwanna Man would get cooked. Like Paige Bueckers is not a small woman in the slightest and she can shoot her ass off. If you’re not similarly built or way more athletic she’d going to shoot your eyes out.
Any time a video of a pro playing against a normal guy appears on here people lose their minds. Every top comment will be like “It’s crazy how much better NBA players are than us regular people”. Like no shit? You thought a bench player in the NBA is just some scrub they got off the streets?
The only time I’ve ever understood where people are coming from is Scalabrine. I could see a guy who played D1 ball but didn’t make it to the league, or whatever, thinking they could take that goofy-looking guy. But of course they can’t!
My favorite NBA quote of all time
Damn I remember when this Ray dude completely sucked and could barely handle the ball. It’s crazy how much he actually improved in even though he clearly never stood a chance here
Ray looks like he’d cook me now
The scary thing is, you can see Walsh knows exactly what the kid is attempting to do every play. Picking apart his mistakes is so scary to see
The biggest problem for the streamer is that he obviously has no idea what to do playing against the size. All of his moves are too short. Who cares if you fake left then right if you didn’t move the ball enough to get away from the guys hand at any point etc. You can exaggerate your moves and play bigger than you really are but if you’re like this guy you’ll never have even learned about it and look a little dumb when the guy doesn’t even have to move to follow you
Definitely 100% agreed. Also really highlights how important separation and spacing is with iso-ball, I would hope in a real game the streamer would know to pass because of the mismatch.
You can see the kind of ground he covers and his pacing is for playing people his own height. Watching Isaiah Thomas at 5’9” killing guys with the float game is where it’s at
Exactly. He keeps trying to get further away like he’ll somehow create enough distance to dribble and shoot freely, and because he’s afraid to get into the defender’s body. Unless he’s got Steph/Dame logo range and Walsh just let him shoot, there’s no possible way he’ll create enough space.
Super typical for a proper amateur playing against someone with any level of competitive experience, but this was a particularly egregious example
Is it common practice to count down from 5 the second he touches the ball?
That or 3 dribble max at higher levels
3 dribble max against a dude faster, taller, and smarter than you would be hilarious what do you even do in that situation.
Just lose
I mean in that scenario the amount of dribbles is irrelevant.
3 dribbles, no rebounds, 2s and 3s is peak one on one fun.
At practises? Or for pick up games?
Right lol. Isn’t it hard enough already
The fact that he even pulled off the pump fake for the step through is surprising. Altho I’m sure if Walsh tried he wouldn’t even be able to dribble b
He wasn’t really putting any body on him or getting into a stance. If he wanted to completely shut him down and rip him everytime he could have.
Thats kinda awesome, too bad the streamer kid didn’t seem like he was having a good time
Really wanted him to hit that shot when he got the step through on the end
That was a nice move. I was kind of hoping it went in too.
This is a great example of Dunning Kruger. That kid seemed like he actually believed he could get a shot in with an NBA player. Despite every physical disadvantage and the mismatch of a streamer vs a guy that has given his life to a skill. For a guy, me, that hates the arrogance the digital world creates, this was nice.
after the 5th strip bro should’ve SGA’d him with all his strength and pray for the best
I read this as SA’d him at first lol
That’s on his OnlyFans account
He makes him look like just a regular over dribbler at my pickup games.
Its the fact that he basically gains 0 separation. He is stuck on him like glue without even trying
I had Walsh as a first rounder on my board. The defense in college was so impressive, glad he’s been given a chance this year
Me too I thought he was a bust for sure since he never played
He would’ve played more on most other teams. The Celtics were just so stacked before that he got pushed down.
walsh gotta be a top what perimeter defender right now? like top 10 at least
top fye
Flight would’ve hurt Jordan’s feelings.
Walsh’s hands are ridiculous, as are any league players.
I remember playing with some d1 players a few years back and a moment that stuck out to me was how a guy got an awkward rebound, and put it back up without coming down, and it was all with one hand.
It doesn’t sound like a lot but he just had so much control, it was like he had glue on his hands.
And Walsh wasn’t even going at 30 percent
Jordan Walsh looks like a Batman villain
Jordan Walsh aka The Henchman
If the streamer was 6’2+, the 10-day contract would not be renewed.
Black belt vs a noob
So that’s why kuzma told him that shit the other day LOL
You can tell Ray just too slow for him, crazy gap
This reminds me of how a cat corners a mouse and when the mouse tries to run away, the cat just lazily paws it back into the corner
The kid should try flopping more
What’s the streamer’s records against other street ballers?
Ray gotta shoe deal and they both don’t
the streamer is a loser irl
I’ve seen guys at my local high school or gym who are high schoolers that didn’t even make the varsity team that are better than this streamer tbf.
Not gonna lie, I would have been able to score 1 point if I had that many chances
Surrrreeeee
