A lot of teams held onto star players (or even solid role players) well past the point it would have been advantageous to dump them for picks. The one that always comes to mind for me is the Bulls and Zach Lavine, but the Nets have done the same thing with several players that could at least fetch a mid level first.
Presti didn’t build everything off of one trade. He was involved in the middle man at times, he jumped in for seconds whenever they were available. That haul was built through a ton of long distance moves.
