[Adam Friedland] “If David Stern were commissioner, Pablo Torre would be dead”
Uncle Dennis and Bold Dennis would be dead long before
Uncle Dennis is more likely to be the one with the scary connects, he’s abused two NBA franchises and has one of the richest men on earth dancing to his tune.
Uncle Dennis is a cartoonishly stupid manager lmao, it doesn’t take a genius to demand more money hook or crook. He just had the leverage of having one of the best players in the world. Both Raps and Lakers told him to kick rocks, Flippers were the only ones who bent over.
Give me $1000 🫴
Stupida fucking game.
Non ti proccupare, non ti proccupare!
Tony make party for me.
Up in da club!
You want one thousand more?
This is probably a reference hardly anyone would get. If you ever watched the Friday Night Lights series; in the later seasons, the star quarterbacks father gets out of prison and instantly starts playing the role of manager. Breaking all sorts of league rules and policies about accepting gifts and meeting with NCAA teams. Really the father is selfish, egotistical, and naive when it comes to navigating that role. The only reason he’s even in that role is cause of his talented son bias towards his family.
I was re-watching the series again and immediately thought ,” This is basically Uncle Dennis and Kawhi Leonard”. Probably a lot more common theme in sports, especially considering these kids are young and impressionable.
https://youtu.be/gswKYDVbUVs?si=fkwlOjlLhjSWUCjG&t=63
What’s infuriating is that so many in this sub put these sorts of figures on a pedestal because they think it’s okay to do whatever as long as they get paid. It takes zero skill or effort or knowledge to do what that Dad in the series or Uncle Dennis did.
Love that show but I can’t make it past season 3 on a rewatch for some reason
To be fair, the departure of most of the original cast from the first season is noticeable. Characters like Smash Williams, Jason, Tyra, and Lyla Garrity are pretty much all gone besides a couple pop up appearances or mentions.
I still think the remaining cast and story are pretty good. For me, it is a nostalgia watch, but I think it’s well done show from start to finish.
His scary connection: kawhi Leonard
Dennis is hustling to only get tens of millions. Balmer could buy his connects, every home he ever lived in, every home he hopes to live in, every car, anything he ever wanted. Then make him disappear.
his scary connect being his nephew being the rich man’s superstar player
The guy who took Kawhi out of small markets San Antonio and Toronto and brought him to LA? Stern would be building him a statue.
Don’t Toronto have a huge media presence?
The media presence would be dead
The US Networks cant monetize off it. The TV rights go to the Canadian networks and people in the US dont really care about watching a Canadian team.
Thats why even when we were a top 5 team for a half decade, we got as many national tv games as the Pelicans.
In fairness I don’t think people in the US don’t care about watching you guys because you’re Canadian. Toronto isn’t a city people hate so you don’t get hate-watchers and you guys haven’t had enough success to have bandwagoners.
But overall ya that’s basically why the league treats you as a small market.
Toronto isn’t a city people hate
Toronto has at least 30 million haters. It’s just those haters are willing to put aside their hate when it comes to the Raptors and Blue Jays.
David Stern: do you still beat your wife?
THIS is the David Stern quote for me. Dude gave 0 fucks!!😂
That’s a common example of a leading question. Stern as a lawyer would have heard that line a million times. Rome obviously knew what he was referencing.
Pretty sure it’s “have you stopped beating your wife” and it’s a loaded question. E.g there’s no correct answer. Otherwise agreed.
“Does your mother know you’re gay?”
____ I’m gay.
A: Yes
B: No
C: Maybe
D: (Leave blank)
“do you still beat your wife?” works exactly the same way.
90 upvotes for rewording the question yo make thr exact same point. So stupid.
There was a minor, but significant correction.
Leading question:
You’re manipulating a witness on the stand, recount the events. By painting a picture with your questions.
Loaded question:
The correct terminology.
I dont think the lottery was fixed but Rome was right that it was a false equivalency. I guess you can say Rome gave credence to the rumors simply by asking Stern if they were true, but the question itself wasn’t loaded (no built in assumptions)
They both work
“Yes it was unanimous. 1-0.”
Stern was a bit slimey but shit he was funny
Stern: It was unanimous: 1-0.
when he suspended Artest. That still kills me.
That’s a quote that gets misunderstood. He was accusing Rome of using loaded questions like that, not of beating his wife.
Nobody’s misunderstanding it, it’s just funny that the commissioner of the NBA said that on live radio.
Pretty fair question.
“that shit wouldn’t fly with david stern”
meanwhile with david stern: ✈️
Kobe in Colorado
David Stern: shit id report that too
I mean, David Stern did a great PR job. When people talk about Kobe they think about the Laker legend. They don’t think about the guy who raped a woman in Colorado.
“Kobe was accused of rape, and all he had to do was settle in court for millions of dollars, change his jersey number and win a championship and that soulless town in LA couldn’t be prouder. I just hope that when parents let their kids run around in #24 jerseys, they have the decency to say: ‘well come on, number 8 was the rapist.’” - Daniel Tosh
Honestly Tosh had some great sports bits. His hatred of Saban for picking Culpepper over Brees and abandoning the Dolphins you could feel.
Also the bit on fans not caring about the players was great. A WR getting decked over the middle: “Get up you overpaid clown. Maybe V-8 will sponsor a vegetable”
His lane kiffin radio show bit is incredible
It aged so well
Tosh’s sports and sports-adjacent bits were probably his best stuff, and he had a lot of it. Kiffin’s Krimson Korner, Gus Johnson announcing his staff basketball game, Sports Science.0, Hark Knocks parodies, his standup about Babe Ruth. And when he participates in the sports bits you can tell he has some legit athleticism.
His podcast has some great moments also. I like that he zags from most other podcasts and just interviews normal people. The guest on his first episode was his wife’s gynecologist. At the end of each episode, he gifts his guest some junk he’s trying to get rid of from his house.
When he re-aired his Sports Science segment right after John Brinkis offed himself it was a bit much.
“Number 24 just has a great work ethic and an unblockable turnaround”
Should’ve been a helicopter. Not a plane. You throw dissidents out of helicopters.
People die in suspicious plane crashes all the time lol
Its a reference to Pinochet, brother.
My dad used to always say the reason Don Young (longest serving Republican in the history of the House) lived so long was because he only flew coach. A lot of Alaskans (and especially Alaskan politicians) die in plane crashes.

What’s with the beef between Pablo and nick wright?
Pablo said he wouldn’t be able to be a journalist because he’s just a talking media head, basically “you can’t do what I do” when he was on Pablo’s podcast.
Which is interesting because in that episode of TAFS Nick openly says he is a talking head not a journalist.
Nick actually said he has the ability to be a “real” investigative journalist and as proof mentioned that he broke some info about Adrian Peterson beating his kid years ago that led to a new grand jury. Then Pablo looked into it the next day, showed that the new grand jury was actually formed (or whatever the correct verb is) the day before nick published the story. Nick then called Pablo weird for looking into it
Is it weird for an investigative journalist to investigate journalism? Nick maybe need to let this one go, pablo might keep digging on him lol.
Which is funny, because Nick Wright criticized him at first for not looking into it. Saying something like, “you’re Pablo Torre Finds Out and you don’t know that I did that Adrian Peterson report 10 years ago? You should have known all about that before assuming I haven’t done investigative reporting!”
I’m paraphrasing, but he seemed to think Pablo should have researched him more.
Yeah I think it started out somewhat friendly and now that Pablo called him out on that Nick is upset
He does admit that, both to Pablo and Adam. But he caveats it with the fact that if he wanted to he could do Pablo’s job if he wanted, which furthered the beef.
When Pablo called him out, Nick conflated that the lack of evidence does not “prove” he is a bad investigative journalist and that Pablo may not be very good either due to the lack of evidence. Gottem, right Nick?
Wasn’t it Dan Le Batard’s podcast, and Nick Wright said something along the lines of “It’s a fact that I can do what you can do, but you can’t do what I do” and Pablo said something along the lines of “I don’t think you can do the investigative journalism I do because you haven’t proven you can do that style of reporting.” And Nick Wright gave an example of a report that he did once.
It was kind of a petty argument between the two lol.
The clips I’ve seen from that episode kind of solidified what I’ve been growing to think of Pablo the more I listen to his podcast or see him elsewhere.
I think he’s extremely egotistical, thinks his work is on the level of uncovering Watergate and that his presentation and cadance is more akin to a used car salesman/grifter than an actual journalist.
I appreciate some of his reporting but he’s still essentially only one or two steps above TMZ and flights below NYT or WaPo.
And I cannot stand him trying to milk drama out of every piece of thing as if it’s earth shattering. Let the shit speak for itself. His presentation style is extremely off-putting. In the Aspiration episode, he took a whole fucking 30 minutes before he got to the meat of the story.
When I started typing this I didn’t mean to make it a whole Pablo rant but here we are.
Pablo is pedantic and Nick doesn’t understand how grand juries are impaneled.
Together they equal a redditor.
so they’re like you!?
and you baby
and us baby
Sometimes me. Sometimes you. Always us.
5% Tint
I agree, shallow and pedantic.
Nick said he could do what Pablo does but Pablo couldn’t do what Nick does, mainly cause Nick had actually done that type of journalism at a certain point in his career. They had a long and pretty tense talk about it on the lebatard show.
Then Torre brought up some of Nicks’s old investigative journalism about Adrian peterson on twitter and pretty much alluded to Nick lying on it, it was some very specific technicality about a grand jury
Nick claimed there was a police conspiracy involving a second grand jury, while Pablo Torre posted a report that explicitly denies a second grand jury ever existed, Nick claimed it was his reporting that led to the second grand jury.
Nick was kinda incorrect on some techincality.
Being correct about technicalities is kind of a journalist’s entire job no?
Depends on what kind of journalism, investigative type that Paolo is doing, sure, so in this case it tracks. But Ross Kemp, or Louis Theroux don’t need to be very technical to do real journalism and create change. Most important thing is just not lying for clicks, and uncovering the real truth.
That’s also exactly the attitude of passivity you would need to adopt to wave away a journalist being wrong. Louis Theroux would probably vomit if he heard someone point at his journalistic style as justification for being fast and loose with facts.
The golden rule of the internet is people are always ready to make excuses in favor of apathy toward factual accuracy.
sounds like you’re on Nick’s side lol
Nah I’ve been a Pablo defender for a while but he is not looking good In these exchanges with Nick wright. He got destroyed in the video with lebatard!
Pablo is genuinely one of the most annoying people I’ve ever heard speak and the nick wright argument almost created a supernova
Wut? Nick never did any journalism. He’s been a talking head his whole career, even in college. Dude was insufferable on Houston radio…
Pablo took offense to Nick calling him a ‘rival’ ironically because he’s that kind of guy. In some cringy barstool sitdown with both of them, Pablo translated that offense into attacking Nick’s claim that ‘Nick could have done journalism’ by first doing some cringy reddit tier semantic discussion, then stating Nick never reported anything in his life. Which was immediately rebuked by Nick with the Adrian Peterson story, which only due to his reporting lead to an actual indictment and a DA forced to cover his ass with some legal technicality in an interview - which Pablo the next day on twitter then put forth as a rebuttal of Nick’s reporting back then, not realizing he was siding with a corrupt DA talking some bullshit. Ironically Pablo looking like Mark Cuban in the aspiration story here.
Imo, fair is fair, Nick could have not started any shit in the first place, especially knowing how in his feels Pablo is about his work actually not being that amazing (LSAT failure trauma and so on). You wouldn’t tell the neurodivergent kid in school you can beat him in train schedule knowledge even if you somehow probably could, it’s just mean.
I like both of them and they both have their strengths.
High noon was really enjoyable, but Bomani would just outmuscle him on the mic because pablo likes to work too much in hypotheticals when he’s a talking head. I’m glad he gets to use his skills as a curious journalist in a way that suits him better.
Nick is a very good talking head, but his obvious biases prevent him from being an unbiased journalist because he’ll let his homerism get in the way of too many conversations.
Nick has beef with anyone smarter than him
So most people
They’re both arrogant tools and Pablo got in his feelings because Nick implied that he could do Pablo’s job if he wanted to because he broke a story one time.
Nick is absolutely insufferable but Pablo is so easily baited… they just need to kiss and get the sexual tension over with.
Its mostly a joke
Dont think its a real ‘beef’. Just a rivalry that they play out sometimes in the media. It did feel like the recent one got serious though. They have several mutual friends, they’re just both competitive and think highly about themselves. Two of those folks don’t usually gel well together.
There isn’t one. They pretend that there is for engagement. They’ve admitted this publicly.
When is this said in the clip? All I hear is Nick laughing and a buzzing noise, like some bug got onto the set
Nick Wright as the 4th mic cackling at everything Adam says would’ve been great for exactly one episode
The Scumbag Vinny chair.
Is he on a book tour or something? I’ve seen him popping up a lot lately.
Oh hey it’s Cool Adam
This one’s actually Gay Adam
I cant believe Adam Friedland made me not hate Nick Wright.
You’re just desperate to have any form of Adam and Nick back together.
I just want the good old days of Nick telling me that I’m gay and my dick is small. I mean, I already knew that, but it’s nice to hear it from him.
He actually has good takes about politics and stuff, so I’m not surprised that he got along well with Adam. I only watch Nick Wright when something “bigger than sports” is going on
I mean his wife is black and he is close friends with thr current mayor of Kansas City.
That’s a bug that eats dust
Pablo basically doing Silver’s job at this point.
Also I’m gay.
I don’t like cool Adam doing podcasts with other Nicks. Also I’m gay
This is proof beyond a shadow of a doubt that Nick Mullen is actually dead
He’s with Ricardo Fink Mullen at the beer fire in the sky ❤️🕊️
R.I.P. we just killed the club
I hate to report that he was actually found in his garage with his leg stuck in a trampoline. Apparently he had been dead for over a week before anybody found him.
RIP to the King of the Ring
He is survived by Ricky. Isn’t that right Ricky?
If the commissioner did his job we wouldn’t need Pablo torre
Bad take. Investigative journalism is always a good thing. Silver is also objectively doing his job, making the league way more valuable than it was when he took over, and in turn making owners even more wealthy
Yeah people think Silver has a duty to the fans. He doesn’t. He has a duty to the owners. That sucks, but it’s true
And let’s cut to the chase here: Silver is beholden to money. Nothing else. If the money is flowing, the owners are lighting cigars. If that flow looks like it might fluctuate or stop, then shit hits the fan. No other reason. None.
As was David Stern. The NBA is not the money-making machine it is today without David Stern.
I mean silver has let the owners engage in blatant cheating and corruption, that’s what torre is investigating. That stuff isn’t good for the league
By definition, cheating is not allowed. Nobody is arguing that it’s good for the league, hence the league investigation that is in process
Just because crimes are being committed doesn’t mean they’re allowed. Wtf kind of take is this?
What are you talking about? The commissioner’s job is to protect the product, not cater to the fans or promote justice or fairness. He’s 1000% protecting the NBA product by sweeping all this shit under the rug. The owners who want to win are all figuring out ways to do the same Aspiration thing right now.
The commissioner works for the owners, not for the fans.
Make adam friedland an nba commentator
Courtside instead of a woman.
Woah replacing a woman with a bug? Idk if the NBA community is ready for that.
Dude knows ball - put him in between Blake and Taylor
i’m gay and my dick happens to be small but i know ball
Are you me?
I love that talking bug, Adam Friedland. Seriously though check out this while interview on YT. It’s amazing.
Where my fellow cumboys at?
Looks like all over this thread lol
You love to see it. I lowkey thought we were extinct
I would never turn my back on my good friend Nick Mullen.
Nick Wright here looking like Moistcritical with a longer face
Who let cool Adam get on the NBA sub
Why do people glorify David Stern as some sort of hard nosed mob boss?
Because he was moving like one lmao. Listen to old player’s stories about him. Even the guys who were known as enforcers were cautious of Stern lmao.
lol i remember seeing a clip on youtube of Kenyon Martin saying he would leave Stern alone, and Kenyon is the type to get mad at someone just bc they looked at him the wrong way lol
Because he operated like one but in the corporate world. People old enough to remember his reign know that
He literally obstructed an FBI investigation into referees
Stern was a villain but the rose-tinted glasses on fans seem to think he actually cared about the NBA.
I don’t know if that’s true, in fact, I’m kind of leaning against it, but I know one thing for certain:
Adam Silver does not give a single fuck about basketball.
Because a bunch of people who were ten years old at the time grew up without learning that David Stern’s alleged iron grip on the league was mostly just barely concealed racist shit like the dress code. They also can’t remember that moves like the CP3 trade getting blocked wasn’t because David Stern was the god of the league who got to decide everything for the NBA and was the sole arbiter of what made basketball good. They also have Mandela effected themselves into believing conspiracies about David Stern rigging lotteries and concealing cheating which has never even come close to being proven but they’ve never actually learned or looked into what happened as a rational adult (literally seeing people in this very response thread parroting the “he squashed the FBI investigation into the league!” which can be dispelled by a single Google search).
Basically they remember he was an asshole and venerate him for it because nostalgia
Before he retired he had a meeting with players where he told them that he knows where the bodies are buried because he buried some of them himself.
Because he didn’t fuck around. He has that reputation for a reason.
This is what happens when your commissioner wears SKIMS
Wild take for a bug that eats dust
Did not expect Nick Mullen’s joke writer to be on the NBA subreddit.
David Stern banned leg sleeves for a while because they looked like tights, he cared about the NBA’s public image to a fault, so he would absolutely kill Pablo
I want Pablo Torre to interview Tom Meyer now
Adam Silver will settle for sweeping it under the rug because most casuals don’t care enough esp since the Clippers suck this year and never won it all. We see it being done in every day life on things that have a much bigger impact because they know most people will throw a frenzy for a few days or weeks but once it’s out of the media cycle people go back to their lives because we have to take care of ourselves/family/friends and pay bills.
edit: My guess is when the “investigation” is done and Balmer gets off with a slap on the wrist, they’re going to release it on a big news day (ex.trade deadline) and bury it.
Nick Wright is not a former NBA player. He’s just ugly.
Careful. Chelsea might start going on First Things First to call you out.

David Stern was old school.
David Stern was also a shitheel that should’ve kept the Pels in OKC.
Eww there’s a bug on my screen, need a can of raid asap
Not a joke
I mean…. he’s not wrong
Nick wright went on a campaign run the last two days. Cooked Pablo to his face, went on this podcast and bill Simmons podcast.
Stern wouldn’t have let this shit get out of hand to the point Pablo would need to expose the Clippers. Stern was in fact Stern.
If Stern was still alive and in power. Sterling would still own the Clippers
Yep. You can bet Stern killed plenty of scandals for Sterling through the years
Lmao
Rich people like to operate with complete immunity and hate getting outed. Fuck them, complete scum bags and the earth would be a better place with them.
If David Stern was around, a lot of folks would not be up to their bullshit
He’s looking up at Adam Silver in disgust.
The shit that the mods allow posted here is very pick and choose lmao
Nick wright is fucking obnoxious wow
Stern mightve also brought him in.
Guy like that would be useful for Stern to keep the teams in line.
