Your assessment on Coby is pretty accurate. He has worked hard to mold his game to whatever the team has needed in any particular year, including being a primary ball handler/playmaker in previous years before we got Giddey, but he is below average at those things. he is better as a pure scorer. I probably wouldn’t want him as the PG of a contending team. I will say he has been struggling recently, but he pretty much always starts the season slow and starts getting hot as time goes on. I would be curious what a change of scenery does for his game though.

He can be a legit PG and could easily average a double double if thats whats needed.

With the wolves, they just need him to play point and feed ant and open guys while getting his as well, if ant is off that night expect him to fill it in more.

We had PG-Coby at its peak before the zach trade. It was honestly kinda cool. He is not a true point guard, but if you watch the link you can see he his strength is his ballhandling. His handle is fucking tight. Which means he can get to the rim with defenders on his hips and a lot of times he can make the right pass during this.

Now that the bulls have Giddey, he is playing his proper 2 guard position, but there is a difference in the way he sets up other guys compared to Giddey. Giddey certainly has better vision, but Coby has a different gravity i would say. So not a true PG but certainly not a slouch. Comparing him with Donte fucking divincenso is insane.

On defense, he is not gifted (short arms), although he gives effort which is all you can really ask for. As a Bulls fan i can say that, i trusted him with the ball 1 000 000 times more than when zach had it in his hands. And i would rather have it in lavines hands, than fucking Donte. Make the trade, Coby is in his prime and bulls fucking stink.

Coby is a significantly better point guard and shotcreator than DDV. Personally I think Minny can keep Donte and trade for Coby.

you’re really underestimating the difference between the twos playmaking ability. DDV is a 0. He can’t bring the ball up the court against any pressure, he struggles to even attack closeouts, and he’s giving you 0 creation off the bounce.

Sure Coby isn’t a control the ball run the offense guy and he’s not pass first, but he can create offense off the dribble, he can get the ball up the court, and he can attack closeouts and broken floors when Ant gets doubled. That’s a lot to add for a marginal downgrade in the defensive end and from 3

Wolves really wanted Garland and were shocked that the Cavs took Garland (Cavs already had a small guard in Sexton and Garland was expected to slide due to barely playing any games in college). Wolves just took BPA.

Naz Reid isn’t a good center btw, he plays like an oversized 3 and he’s ideally played as a 4. He has no rim protection, you really need someone to protect the rim and rebound with him.
