Wembanyama ruled out for game against Lakers

Ayton better dominate tomorrow
Kornet was getting bullied by Queen yesterday. Not feeling super confident right now.
To be honest I would put that more on Queen being incredible yesterday. Dude is special if he can perform like that. Plays completely different than Ayton. Not that Ayton can’t have a good game, but Queen is a DUDE.
Queen isn’t soft like ayton
Queen has three wins in his career. Ayton has started in the NBA finals.
Ayton had Booker, Bridges and a very good CP3 on his team.
Ayton just needs to do what he’s been doing
No time to be Wayston
He will dominate yesterday and today. Dominating is his game.
I think it’s really smart by the Spurs medical staff. Knowing how competitive Vic is, he would’ve pushed himself really hard in this game. It’s important he ramps back up from injury at a reasonable pace and isn’t just thrown back into the fire in an extremely competitive and physical environment. Bring him back against the Wizards next week for like 22-25 minutes.
Might as well bubble wrap him for 2026 at this rate.
I was gonna say. Does it really matter if he IS actually injury prone if we’re already treating him like he is? The net result is the same in a competitive point of view.
In trying to avoid a situation where your franchise player becomes injury prone and has to miss games for long stretches of time, you implemented a solution where your franchise player has to miss games for long stretches of time.
You just went ahead of yourself and skipped to the reality of having an injury prone franchise player before he even started getting injured lol
You got a point but spurs are winning still only reason I think they keeping it safe
We as fans have no idea if medical teams are playing it safe or not lol.
These sorts of takes are always hilarious to me.
This pretty much. This was supposed to be a feel the roster out season and see if they can make the playoffs. If they’re winning without him it makes sense to be extra cautious when you’re over-performing. Spurs did this shit anyway for last 20 years. But god damn is it annoying sometimes
The trapiest of trap games incoming
It feels that way but it is a cup game so hopefully the intensity is there from the jump
Not a trap game, we are legimately good without Wemby as long as Castle, Harper and Kornet are available.
Just so you know you’re not a contender. You will win a lot of regular season games like last year and get bounced in rd 1 because you dont have any defenders around Luka and AR. And we know old man LeBron will be gassed by the end of the year.
Enjoy your regular season tho. 😁
are the spurs gonna be this cautious his entire career? might as well wrap him in bubble wrap until the playoffs then
All the Achilles tears last playoffs were calf related issues. Rather be safe and cautious than be sorry with a tendon tear
harper also had a calf strain and was in a boot while wemby didn’t even have a sleeve on his leg and harper still came back in less time. i get being cautious but wemby himself said he wants to win DPOY. he’ll never do that if they shut him down over every minor injury
It also makes it more likely that he might hide it if he thinks they will be overtly cautious in the future too.
They’ll never have to offer him a supermax, either
If this type of over-cautiousness extends to the end of his contract, I fear there is chance he might ask for a trade at that point, he is way to competitive to just let his career be derailed that much.
Harper was out a little over 3 weeks. It’s been a little over 3 weeks now with Wemby out. And every player has their own recovery, it’s silly to act like because Harper’s back Wemby should be back too
Nope. No correlation.
Dame’s clot issue was on the other leg’s calf.
Tatum had zero calf issues prior.
And with Hali, people want to make that connection, but mechanically there’s no known way for a strained muscle to lead to a torn tendon. At least that’s what the go to YouTube sports doctor guy stated.
The two main examples everyone points to are KD and Hali, and as far as we know, those injuries could’ve been minor Achilles tears that were misdiagnosed as calf strains, or maybe just reported as them.
But this whole “calf strains increase odds of Achilles tears” boogey man fear is unfounded by any real science.
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/45582778/nba-calf-achilles-injuries-overuse-recovery
Here’s an article agreeing but not confirming, I think they need more time and data on it.
Yeah that’s pretty much what I’ve heard and what makes sense to me…there isn’t the correlation that fans casually assume there is “Achilles tendon connects calf to foot, therefore calf injury leads to Achilles injury”. The KD and Hali injuries have real perpetuated that line of thinking unfortunately.
I do agree that any injury can lead to imbalance and compensation, but that would apply just as much to a hammy, or quad, or groin injury on that leg.
Mechanically, there isn’t anything that explains why a calf muscle strain would cause an Achilles tear, and that’s the main point I try to point out since most people insist that’s the case.
With a condition that could result in a torn Achilles? Probably.
And if he aggravates his injury next game then what will ppl say? Im looking forward to the cup but this isn’t the playoffs
Its a shame, hes gonna miss out on so many individual awards.
Does it affect his rookie max at all? Could end up being good for the spurs in the long run lol
i’m starting to think this is the case because wemby was practicing day after with no boot or sleeve. Cautious is an understatement
Yeah it’s kind of wild to me, it appears to be as mild of a calf injury as possible, he was doing drills the next day. It’s been 3 weeks…
They are playing great without him right now. No point rushing back in the risk of an ACL tear. He might not be eligible for awards tho which sucks
Yeah honestly agree. The team is humming. Could insert him back if things arent going well / when he’s fully ready
Pop keeping Timmy out of the ‘00 playoffs after an injury lay-off (despite apparently being ready to return), and then managing his minutes, gametime, and offensive load for the vast majority of his career:
“are the Spurs gonna be this cautious his entire career? Might as well wrap him in bubble wrap until the playoffs then”
(When the “wrap him in bubble wrap” is what helped a guy with zero functioning knees become a top 10 player all time and have an extremely productive 19 year career and win 4 more rings)… yeah, not many teams I would trust more than the Spurs to take the patient approach to managing Victor’s career.
Damn that’s a bummer
Most hype game of the year so far just got a bit less hype. I’d rather be safe than sorry though.
It’s too bad. But I’d rather see him healthy the rest of the year. I’ve enjoyed watching the Spurs this year, very interested to see how their season shakes out if everyone can stay healthy
I really wanted the two healthy rosters play each other in a cup setting. Because our last game was a ruined by overzealous refs.
Damn, but its okay. Just stay healthy Wemby. Biyombo legacy game
I mean the Spurs have been winning even with all the injuries surprisingly, no need to rush him since they have a real shot at making the playoffs this year.
Wemby going to be the unicorn of NBA unicorns, almost mythical status but rarely seen in active play.
he’s missing 11-12 games from this injury and the entire world is actling like his career is done for lmfao
Maybe you meant to say 11-12 games from this injury alone
Exactly. Who knows what games he misses later in the season?
Hopefully we get him back by Christmas
I’d assume he’s back next week, might be playing less minutes to start
Watch him get so fed up with this overly cautious crap that he becomes disgruntled and eventually wants out of there
Nooo our conspiracy narrative
Friendly reminder that this man probably could have started playing 2 weeks ago. I get the Spurs are being cautious, but the strain wasn’t even serious. Just let him play at this point. So annoying
“This man probably could have started playing 2 weeks ago.” According to who? The Spurs medical professionals? I never heard that. Source: trust me bro.
At least it wasn’t a situation where he was already injured & he just happens to come back against the Lakers because we’re the Lakers
Wemby ducking Ayton 😂🤪aure voia Victor Canardamyama 😭
I have courtside seats to the West Finals in Vegas.
Lakers better win or Wemby better be healthy for Saturday.
I didn’t drop a couple grand to watch the De’Aaron Fox show.
No one gives a fuck how you waste your money

According to the Spurs beat writers he has not played 5v5 yet. Players returning from injury almost always progress from 1v1 to 2v2 (Vic practiced 2v2 on Monday) then 3v3 and lastly 5v5. He still has a little ways to go.
What’s on Thursday? And all reports within the past two hours explicitly say he’s only done 2-on-2’s and haven’t even participated in any 5-on-5’s yet.
most injury proned player already.. he wont make it in this league. and this is just being real.
“Proned”
0/10 rage bait, try harder next time
Not AD or Trae Young, Wemby? Lmao the Spurs are just being ridiculously cautious.
