[Charania] Rich Paul has told the Mavericks to either trade Anthony Davis or sign him to an extension in the offseason. Dallas will see how Davis gels with the group and may decide to sign him to a lucrative extension.
Ok so Davis is for sure getting dealt
I hope to God they sign him to a max extension
5 years/$(Anthony Davis current weight) million
You think they want to pay him to eat?
After trading that fat point guard?
What about the Dallas front office makes you think they make logical or smart decisions?
4x 1sts please and thank you
Davis is owed 3 years $175M. When that deal ends, he will be 35. There is no team in the NBA that is extending him right now
The only scenario where I see him getting an extension is if he is willing to sign a similar deal to what Kyrie took this summer. Less money annually but more guaranteed money over several years on a 2+1.
sure, but if that happens, you’re still glued to a declining AD for 4 years on a ton of money.
It’s different because AD’s knees aren’t literally disintegrating, but looking at Joel Embiid’s 4 year contract, I don’t know why any team would willingly sign up for that kind of future.
Just let him play out the next couple years and see what he looks like in 2027 when it’s time for a new contract.
Yeah, I can’t imagine what leverage he thinks he has, given that outside of 76 games in ‘23-24 he’s played 56 or less games per year since ‘19-20, and has looked rough at times this year. Hard to imagine him suddenly becoming less injury prone, especially with a suspect Mavs staff.
Joel and PG should be cautionary tales for the rest of the league, especially with the aprons.
I don’t think he will make close to Embiid money. It’s like $64M a year
the \( amount isn't the issue. it's the length of the contract. Embiid's contract right now wouldn't be good if he was making \)34M a year. you’re still tied to it for 4 years.
AD’s current 2+1 contract is fine. it’s a little risky but at least you know you’re out of it if things go [more] south. Subtract the +1 and adding two more guaranteed years even at a lower number, it’s way tougher to get out of that.
Go ahead and remove that last year. If he signs an extension it’ll replace the player option. If Mavs trade AD and new team pays for a 3 year extension they’d be getting him for his age 33, 34, 35, and 36 seasons. But I wouldn’t be shocked if it’s only a 2 year extension given his age.
Extension? What?
Hyper extension
ULTRA EXTENSION!
That doesn’t sound like a good idea
Paul comes up with lots of not good ideas for teams. Good for his bank account, though.
It’s not really his job to do what’s best for teams. Though that’s at odds with having a podcast.
Mavs do not have any control of their picks in any years AD would be there for this extension. He will be declining and probably injury prone, but if he can’t fetch a large trade I’d rather have him than no one and give teams elite picks. If we can’t get value for Kyrie and AD, I’d rather ride them out on Flaggs rookie deal and build around Flagg when he’s like 22 and these guys are gone and we have cap space and all of our picks.
I think it’s entirely going to depend on what kind of deal he is demanding. There’s just no universe where it makes sense for the Mavs to sign that max. If he agrees to a significant discount in terms of years/AAV then maybe. Otherwise I would literally just let him walk. We can’t afford an Emibiid situation.
Even then, him being willing to take a discount on his next deal should up his trade value and it still makes more sense to trade him.
Agreed, if he asks for $60M+ then we trade or let him walk.
LMAO at Rich Paul. His latest interview wasn’t a total success, huh?
Cool, play well and dont get hurt and you’ll get what you want.
dont get hurt
Non negotioable
Get ready to learn injury report buddy
AD has scored a grand total of 376 points for the Dallas Mavericks.
They’d be fools not to extend that kind of production.
Or else what?
Agent: Pay my guy or send him somewhere he will get paid.
shocked
okay then he’s definitely getting traded. they would be insane to commit to four more years after he’s been hurt for 50%+ of his time in Dallas. Even if you’re not sold on a rebuild, that’s just not enough time to evaluate
Jell. The word you’re looking for is jell. AD might seem like he’s made a gelatin, but the correct term is jell.
Better learn to speak Kings AD
Why the hell would they sign an extension lol
LOL so hes getting traded thanks Rich Paul
What type of extension makes sense for AD at this point?
Vet min to the Clippers with Aspiration 2.0.
To extend him to the nearest exit.
At the very most 3 years $150M. Slight pay cut from current deal to add years and total money.
Max contract with the 76ers
Hyper extension of the knee
An extension to the lifeline of his ligaments.
If they are going to ask for an extension from a team that trades for him, I’m not sure what the market would even be. He’s 32, has 3yrs, $175m left on his deal and has an injury history. Plenty of teams would love to trade for him but I don’t know who would extend him at this point.
This is a good way to crater that trade value some more.
Rich Paul can screw himself
Toronto is gonna win the AD sweepstakes and not extend him.
I mean.. Yeah those are the options. If he doesn’t do either, he leaves in FA just like every other NBA player. Not sure what Rich Paul is even trying to say.
The only thing the Mavericks should be extending is their arm out for a handshake as they tell him it was nice having with him with the team for a year
I don’t think they sign him to an extension and repeat the mistake they made with going all in on KP with rookie contract Luka. Essentially hamstringing ourselves with an injury prone big man with no assets to be able to upgrade the team. We have to get younger and more athletic. Our window has shifted and are already in the 2nd apron with players that are going to need extensions. We can’t compete with OKC or the other top teams in the west and are in danger of just competing for the 8th seed/play in every year with AD. Move him for what you can and start the rebuild.
It’s insane how AD is always injured but then is always ready to hold out and not play to get somewhere else or more money. Has a guy sat out twice in his career? I guess Harden with the fat suit for Houston and Brooklyn lol
They would be foolish to extend him. He’d probably get hurt signing the contract
Tell Rich Paul to get fucked.
😂😂 dealing with rich paul you might as well deal with the mob
Nothing against AD but I hope GMs don’t bunch in. Forcing a guy to get pay who they want a full max
Davis hasn’t earned anything with the Mavs. If he was there instead of LA and had that history it would be something to think about, but Davis has only proven he can’t stay healthy. The hard part is that they probably won’t get a lot for Davis considering that is what most people think of him. Even if he is a number 2 option offensively for another team, how much longer does he actually have? Could one bad injury take his entire game out? It isn’t the first time that has happened.
So what was Luka traded for then exactly
So Nico Harrison and Dallas management didn’t want to extend Luka doncic! Or at least that was one of the speculations as to why Luka was traded. So now they are going to have to extend a soon to be 33 year old Anthony Davis, that is the age he will be in March. So Anthony Davis with his injury history was the better investment? and there are actually people out there who tried to defend the Luka doncic trade. Whoever the new general manager if he is smart you trade him.
Why am I seeing these two? I don’t watch espn for a reason
I honestly need to see him and kyrie play together. Yes health whatever, I just think they will click instantly
omg i’m still not over the lakers trading ad. mavs might actually be scary if he and luka click. (sc: katyofjr)
I guess you really do need to try and manifest powerful delusions to be successful as a sports agent.
No team in the NBA is offering AD an extension beyond his current deal (which already runs until 2027-28!!!) unless he can play at a high level for a full season (which he can’t).
