Grayson Allen with the gather step pump fake euro step-through middy floater
The old step-back euro-step side-step three pointer two pointer, just like Naismith envisioned.
The iconic 1-2, gather, stepback, side-step floater we all know and love
Don’t forget the korean backdash, side step, netural, hellsweep into electric wind god fist.
Remember, kids: Wavedashing only counts as one step!
These players haven’t mastered wavedash into reflector to get the and 1 yet. smh
Luka is going to hit the run-off shine-spike next game mark my words
Harden is going to drop cancel into rest and clear the benches.
When he wakes up he will have 5 point play and possession.
obligatory
Ahhh the good ol Luka Smash SHFFL
Some kid is on a court right now working on his double shine wave dash back triple shine 3 pointer right now.
Harden has ruined the game.
And he’s proud of that fact
Reflector just feels wrong. That’s a shine baby
Surprised they’re not in PK’s
Urien voice
“DYYE !!!!!”
Tekken reference here is 🔥
Now imagine playing in the 80s and even 90s and you just doing a euro gets called a travel
Get your ladders boys, these peaches won’t pick themselves
Almost as many words in this headline as there are steps taken
Sliiiiide to the left ….
Shit sounding like FGC combos at this point
Did they really allow that to still count as a 3 pointer?? I see the scoreboard showed it at the very end, but did they actually allow that to stand on top of everything else? 🤮
It sounded like Skeebeedoo doo dap wop dap.
I just don’t want to live in a world where you can step back into a fucking step through man what the fuck lmao
They should just start doing the old Hot Sauce moves from And1
Edit: they also counted this as a 3 lmao
As long as Escalade can be on the court with a mic doing play by play
The Professor’s in-shirt-behind-the-back would be legal in today’s NBA.
MY GODSON!!!! THA PROFESSSSSOR!!!
Yea that was Hot Sauces move originally
I’d give a lot to see it again. Rip legend
White Chocolate!!!
WHITE!!!! CHOCOLATE!!!!!
Damn those were some great videos just for the absurdity of it.
At last Rafer Alston got another shot out of it.
Does And1 have any NBA guys still? I actually don’t mind some of these…
AND1 Basketball Shoes | Men’s and Women’s Basketball Shoes – AND1.com https://share.google/ByDksh5lccsLeGoBB
Oh man I remember those Tai Chis from back in the day.
Oh baby!
Would be kinda hard now…..R.I.P.
OHHH BAYYYYBEEEEEE
The sole reason why I can never pronounce it any other way.
OHHHHHHHH BAAAAAYYYYYYBEEEEEEEE!
At this point just give us And1 back.
Or finally just rewrite the traveling rules for the nba rulebook and just give them 4-5 steps now, because that’s how it’s called nowadays anyway.
But it’s like a speed limit, that opens us up to the 7 step being normal.
At that point we might as well just eliminate the need for dribbling altogether at the nba level. Make it football with hoops instead of goal posts.
Wait is this actually a 3? He’s a mile inside the arc?
No the ref signals 2 but the scoreboard gave 3. I’m sure it was corrected.
I’m sure they corrected it, it’s just funny
🤣 that’s the best part
Wait how can they call this a 3 when he took a whole step inside the 3 pt line, but someone with a toe on the line is a 2?? That might be even more wild than the blatant travel
It’s not a three.
There are always pickup warriors in the comments that defend these egregious carries im just waiting for them to come out of the woodwork
Thankfully, 99% of the people I play with are calling this out. Even before the step through. The only person is the random teenager who tries to play like James Harden.
That part doesn’t bother me. After a step-back, one of your feet is your pivot foot. You can do all the normal things you can do with a pivot foot, including a step-through. If you have two feet on the floor and you haven’t traveled yet, there is always a step-through option.
It’s still the “gather” steps before the step-back that just don’t look reasonable.
Agreed re: gather step, but if you slow down the video you can see that he actually slides his pivot foot a little as he steps through, making this a travel even beyond all the other this-should-be-a-travel type stuff going on.
The last move of his left foot was the illegal one, correct?
According to what rules? The entire thing was a travel. You get one pivot foot and once that leaves the ground, it can’t touch again with possession of the ball. He picked up his feet 4 times.
Oh god this made me lol. Yea by NBA rules it’s legal, by basketball rules it’s a heinous travel
Gathers on his left foot, into a 1-2 coming to a stop which makes his right foot the pivot. He tries to do a normal step through but moves his right foot slightly first which was a travel. If he hadn’t moved that right foot a few inches what would’ve been wrong with this?
“Gathers” aka walks his ass all over the floor with no regard for the rules
Is this clip isn’t a wakeup call to the nba, it’s a lost cause.
The illegal part was the right foot moving just slightly, just before he does the step-through move. Everything else would’ve been fine otherwise.
Idk why you have people in here saying they don’t want to see players able to do a step-through after a step-back. Why hate good footwork? (Obviously this was not good footwork)
I mean to be fair MVP era Harden kind of set the table for this to evolve.
If someone did this in pickup ball, would it get called a travel?
When they are done laughing, it will be called a travel.
That’s when you gotta gaslight saying you took less steps and then end with a “shoot for it”
Ball dont lie
“Mad cause I’m in my travel bag”
I’ve been called for less. This is starting a 5 minute argument at the very least. Lolol
“Shoot for it!”
“no he gotta shoot it, not you”
Dude pulls one from 3 immediately after the argument ended.
MISS = “That dont count.”
MAKE = “Ball dont lie! Fuck outta here! Check up!”
Then miraculously start arguing about the score again because buddy on the right started adding points to their team.
Sorry got personal.
In some places this is starting a legitimate physical altercation if you argue it’s not a travel
Yes, It’s a travel in the nba too
A travel is whatever the ref decides it is.
It would be called a travel before he did the step through
If someone did this at the park they’d get their ass kicked.
That goes for most of how Grayson Allen plays.
I believe you’d get your ass kicked doin something like that, man
Definitely if you tried to say it wasn’t a travel
this is a travel in any other court except the nba
well.. it’s a travel in the nba too because he lifted his pivot foot very slightly. but nba is like, it’s not noticeable so it doesn’t count
NBA implements the rule of cool when it comes to traveling. Everywhere else you get two steps.
I count 4 steps unless we playing fuck around street ball im calling that shit all day
I’m calling this on my own team
You bet I would too. Or at least just hand the ball over to the opposing side and run down the court quietly, no questions asked.
100 times out of 100
Most gyms I go to would have already called travel on that gather into stepback, and some of those probably would have called an offensive foul on that stiff arm 🤦🏻♂️
Of course. It’s also a travel in 7⁄8 youth basketball that I coach because you know we actually try to enforce the rules of the game so kids learn. NBA reffing is a joke. Image if this happened on a game winning shot.
Someone would inevitably yell out Walk awwww hell nah! Then take the ball out of your hands for next possession, while simultaneously clowning you.
I don’t give a shit about the rule book or any of these “technicalities” that influencer coaches love talking about. THATS A TRAVEL
If the league starts pulling this shit more and more there better be a revision in the rules cause this is borderline blasphemy
Imagine playing ethical basketball
People talk shit about the OGs from old footage where they had to actually keep their hand on top of the ball. Most NBA players carry the ball just bringing it up court.
Jerry West would’ve absolutely killed it in this era
Imagine if Pistol Pete could carry and travel?!?!?!?!?!
forget that, imagine if he had a 3 point line growing up!
Travel makes today’s player to find better balance for every jump shot. It just makes it easier to shoot and make shots.
“Easier” yeah that’s the whole point of rules
When comparing with the past legends, today’s stats should be handicapped by 30% with how loose the rules are
currently its haram ball
The mythical fourth Ball brother?!
ethical dont win
You do know we’re talking about Grayson Allen right
They also better be ready for viewership to plummet because this is just nasty
“I wonder why ratings are down.”
Maybe if they split up more games between league pass and several streaming services… And charge more money! People love not having money.
It is actually a travel by NBA rules. But only barely.
The gather/step back is right on the edge but legal by NBA rules.
Then it would be a standard step through, except that his right foot is off the ground before his left foot lands. If the right foot were still down when the left foot lands, then it would have been legal since the ball is released before either foot touches the ground again.
It’s not even close.
When you look at it up close, it appears that his right foot is still on the ground when he puts both hands on the ball. That would make his right foot his pivot foot. He then takes 3 more steps before he even attempts the step through, which is a travel.
But hey, let’s say I give him the benefit of the doubt and say the left foot was his gather step instead. Next step is his right foot, which makes it his pivot foot. During the step through, he slides his right foot along the ground, which is a travel. The right foot then comes off the ground, lands back on the ground, and the toe drags, which is yet another travel.
There are undeniably 2 (I’d argue 3) travels in this one play. And I’m typically one of the people defending even the most liberal interpretation of the gather step rule.
Yep I refuse to watch this shit. I’ll find something else to do.
Travel calls should be based purely on the audience reaction.
This but unironically.
The NBA should hire Vince McMahon, the master of changing the match midway based on audience reaction
What’s Adam Silver’s Montreal Screwjob?
I mean, it’s gotta be the Luka trade. Yes, I still think it was a conspiracy
And a mfer will do this in LA fitness and talk about how he cooked you 😂. Basketball is ruined lol
That’s really the worst part. They’ll explain to you for 5 minutes why it’s legal. NBA is destroying pick up basketball across America
What has happened to the game I love?
Fuck the NBA for allowing this trash.
Genuinely “hoopers” love to justify shit like this
I think even with the stupid gather step rule, it’s still a travel… (1) he “gathered” too early, when he’s right foot is still on the ground, so he didn’t get an extra step (2) his right foot drags when he’s stepping through, so by definition he’s already landed, and he didn’t pass or shoot before that
I’m not sure his right hand was on the ball while his right foot was on the ground. You’re also allowed to lift your (pivot) foot during a step through; is the drag that big of a deal then?
That said he did lift his right foot before the step through, but that would’ve been reaalllllly hard to call.
Yea the first one is pretty hard to tell, I looked at an earlier post in slow mo and it’s pretty much just a frame or two difference.
But I’m quite sure you cannot drag the pivot foot at all, even if you’re lifting your pivot during step through. Dragging pivot is always going to be a travel. Really hard to tell in real time though.
I watched a replay from a different angle. He has both feet off the ground entirely in the middle of his “step-through”, so it’s definitely a travel.
The drag definitely is, he picked up his back foot put it back down and dragged it
Left foot was up when he completed the gather so he gets two steps from there, and his right foot is the pivot. On the edge but legal (in the NBA and only in the NBA).
On the step through - yes, that’s a travel. As soon as his right foot leaves the ground that’s his one and only jump, so he can’t land on the left, much less jump off of it. It’s a “step-through”, not a “bound-through”.
A 1960s ref would have punched him in the mouth if he witnessed this
Clear travel , cant just add up bonus steps for some reason
Nah you got it wrong. He started of with a three step step-back pump fake, realized his mistake so he took another step into the previous direction. Ethical hoops.
He was simply holding himself accountable. High level stuff.
no one show Wemby this
I don’t need to see him dunk from the 3pt line
They really need to change the step through rule. It’s just not basketball.
They should also make free throw hunting flops an offensive foul, not a non call, an actual offensive foul.
I will not be taking questions.
The step through isn’t the issue and has been the same since the earliest days of the league. You can find plenty of videos of guys doing the step through as far back as the 70s and it’s the same rule that allows a regular running layup to happen. The problem here was the gather step and the refs miscounting. Maybe they miscounted because they’re used to guys palming (carrying most of the time if we’re being real) the ball for longer and Grayson instead gathers immediately like he’s catching a football and turning upfield or maybe they “miscounted” because they’ve got money on the game. Who knows. But the issue here wasn’t the step through rule.
Flopping should be a T.
it would never get called
it is a t, it just never gets called
“but players today are just so much more skilled” it’s an actual joke when you compare the rules even 20 years ago vs today.
Imagine if Kobe or Jordan were allowed this travel bullshit lolllll
That’s why all the ogs say Jordan could score 45-50 a night easily.
They couldn’t stop him then. Imagine if he was given this much room to maneuver. And he’d get the whistle.
And no hand check. My gawd.
Let’s not act like he didn’t get to travel already, though. They’d just let him break other rules now. Goat or not, he got the friendliest whistle ever.
The spin move on a planted pivot with an immediate dribble isn’t the “gotcha” you think it is
That’s true
This is exactly right. MJ with this gather step through rule?? Fucking unstoppable. He’d average 50 without a doubt
Imagine the distance Wilt could cover after his last dribble.
Thats why those arguments are silly. For example, sure Kyrie is more skilled than Bob Cousy. But if you put Kyrie in Cousy’s era, he wouldn’t be able to dribble. Every single thing he does with the ball would be carrying back then.
Yeah that always gets me when they laugh at the ball handling from those days. It’s like, you know they had to keep their hand on TOP of the ball, right??
Who enjoys this? This makes me sound like a boomer, but this is one of the things that has hurt the popularity of the NBA. Just call travels like it’s college, why would that be so bad?
You don’t sound like a boomer; you sound like someone who respects the game of basketball.
Plays like this would get you laughed at years ago, and now the NBA passes them off as “highlights.”
I’m under 30 years old by the way.
this would get laughed at even in the 90s
The 00’s too
Real boomers know
It’s called traveling.
Traveled to another country.
Multiple countries I fear, bro wants to go round the world.
Feels like a mockery of the game, but its whatever.
I don’t understand how the rules and interpretations changed. It’s been pretty well established what a travel is. The NBA keeps loosening restrictions for what?
The theory goes that offense sells tickets/gets viewers. Any way to interpret rules in favor of scoring usually wins out.
That’s one of the dumbest-looking things I’ve ever seen and if this is legal something’s wrong.
Haha and they counted it as a three
Ref called it a 2, just a scorekeeper error that would have been corrected.
A point for every gather step
Pivots, then lifts the pivot foot before the shot.. what are we even doing here?
well you’re allowed to lift the pivot foot to jump from your other foot to shoot or pass
You can lift the foot before the shot, just can’t let the pivot foot land before the shot is released.
https://official.nba.com/rule-no-10-violations-and-penalties/
Section XIII—Traveling, section d.
Not sure if this one in particular is a travel tho, I’d need to slow it down and see it on a bigger screen, kinda looks like the pivot foot slides on his initial gather
So that last landing of his left foot, that’s when it became illegal right?
Yes, pivot foot cant land while you have a ball in your possession.
Wait a fucking minute, that counted as a three!?!? Am I tripping?? What’s basketball, I’m new here apparently
Scorekeeper mistake. Ref clearly signals 2 point make.
At this point why are players even bothering to dribble at all?
Everyone is so upset with the step thru lol
it’s not the step thru. it’s the gather step
It’s not a step through if you drag your pivot foot.
Man traveled to another continent
What the hell did I just watch??? 🤦
Gather step, two steps back, lifts the pivot foot, step through…travel?
i don’t understand why the league doesn’t step in and discipline the refs, it’s an embarrassment .. .he took 7 steps … and it was right in front of the referee…
You should not be allowed to step through if you pivot on the 1 step, it should only be allowed if you pivot on the gather step. A couple years ago I went out and came up with all kinds of shots that would be legal if you can step through after pivoting on the 1 step, and it’s really stupid.
Travelling all over the place.
How is that a 3 ptr?
lol “basketball.” Sure NBA….sure.
SGA is a flopper
If I tried this move in high school I would be benched for a year lol times have changed
I am sure some dick will act like this was not a travel
He just pulled out The Annexation of Puerto Rico!
That ref wanted to call travel
100% you see the ref beginning to motion for the travel call and then lets it go when the shot goes in🤦♂️
Seeing the reactions of these comments make me question how many people actually hoop… by the time he kills his live dribble he takes a legal step back and steps through while maintaining his pivot foot. Its a bad shot tbh but its legal in NBA and FIBA
How is this not traveling ?
How many mileage points is that
The best part is all the people in the crowd signing travel
They probably don’t understand the rules (do any of us??) but I feel like it’s a good indicator of how bullshit this kind of stuff is.
It looks like cheating to average viewer
Let’s just abolish dribbling.
The funniest part are the commentator puppets who just go along with all of this BS.
Travel is apparently what a catch is to the NFL, what a Balk is to MLB and what Goalie interference is to hockey
In these sequence I always wonder what ref were looking at or even thinking
Fuck it, just do whatever
The announcer was in disbelief when the replay played 😭
“Grayson Allen with the travel”
There I fixed it for you
Lets get the mathematicians and trigonometrists here to explain how this isn’t traveling
Pretty sure something really similar has happened the last few years and tons of people here were saying it wasn’t a travel and all that. Now people are saying it’s a travel lmao the back and forth on here is hilarious
Waiting for someone to step back step through from baseline to baseline.
3 step fucking run - travel
Looks like he gathers the ball prior to planting his left foot at 8 seconds left. So his left foot is established as a pivot, no gather/zero step. When he lifts his left pivot foot after it’s a travel. The gather is very close though, tough for a ref to see that in real time. They should probably err on the side of cation and call it if they can’t determine it in real time.
The ref at the sideline looks like he wanted to call a travel but then remembered he took the suns to cover.
Its not traveling, he gather stepped after every step.
Worst era
I have a feeling that when Bron retires the NBA is going to go super OD aggressive reffing the rules again bc this is getting ridiculous
It’s probably technically legal, but it’s against the spirit of the rule
Never been a fan of Grayson Allen, shitty sportsmanship and a crybaby.
