Draymond Green on the Dunk contest: “I worked this hard to be an All-Star and you can be in dunk contests without an NBA contract. We might as well get those guys that do those crazy ass dunks.”
I mean the only reason those guys do it is because the stars are big cowards who won’t do it.
Dunking has changed a lot.
It’s not like it was pre-Vince. Expectations are insane, and the majority of players just aren’t growing up practicing dunks constantly like 30 years ago.
Dunk competitions are practically like another sport.,and they just can’t keep up.
You all want to pretend that fans don’t clown on every dunk that doesn’t blow their minds.
Plus the judges make it about themselves a half the time with their over the top theatrics of their own, and screw up the scoring all the time.
Aside from the 3pt contest, all-star weekend is a joke bc the players literally don’t care. In this regard the current crop of superstars are not good stewards of the game.
The league literally hires comedians to roast the players during all-star events…
No shit the players don’t want to be there.
Okay, what about before that?
The problem isn’t the current crop of stars.
It’s the previous generation doing everything possible to shit on the newer players.
Last year is a perfect example, all star game begins with interest and intensity. Then suddenly a masturbatory TNT tribute happens with K Hart and the crew openly mocking the players on the court.
So the all stars stopped caring, imagine if Jordan’s dunk contest had Wilt Chamberlain in the middle of the event talking about how much better he was back in the day.
If the presentation doesn’t care then why would the viewers.
They stopped caring before this
Ya the reason they bring out Kevin Hart and company is because they’re out of ideas trying to get the game to be watchable because the players stopped giving any shits about the game. So they try gimicky shit
That’s nothing to do with the previous generation shitting on stars, that’s just Silver and the NBA being absolute morons.
If Kevin Hart comes back this year I’ll just change the channel. That was horrific.
Y’all are grasping at straws. The problem with all-star game festivities pre-date Kevin Hart. I agree about the way the prominent old heads shit on new players. But the old heads still are right about a couple of things.
With modern coverage of the league its kinda pointless. Back then the All Star game would be one of the few chances you could see a player if they were outbof your market. Players would go hard because of it. Now I could live in Siberia and watch every single Hornets game so its not as crucial. There’s not really an incentive for the players there to try for a meaningless exhibition in the middle of the season with risk of injury. The All Star game is basically falling apart in most leagues, only baseball’s really is decentvand that’s because there’s not really an injury risk that could mess up a team in baseball.
Replace the allstar game and put the nba cup in its place.
I like this one, and give the cup team an auto-bid to the playoffs
Or you could do it to where it can be a tie breaker or have the cup act like extra wins
This is what I’ve been saying
I agree. But if you’re going to continue all-star weekend, it has to be competitive and filled with stars doing stuff. Stars benefit from the league more than the rank and file player.
Literally why should they? Dorks are calling them cowards regardless lol. In the social media age, there’s no upside or incentive, as people have pointed out.
You really think that a missed dunk or two or losing a dunk contest will hurt LeBron James career?
Shame they rushed to name a trophy after Kobe and settled on the all star mvp. They tried that one season after he passed and it was electric. The gimmicks silver has added have made it even worse, get rid of the game already if they don’t want to play a competitive game getting paid 40m, 50m, 60m some 70m per year.
I think the problem is all the obvious stuff has been done already by prior generations. Coming up with something original is tough.
Right. Dunks that would give you 10s from the judges and gasps from the crowd 30 years ago get yawns nowadays. There’s only so many ways to dunk a basketball and after 40+ years it’s pretty hard to come up with something people haven’t seen before
and if you actually come up with an original or spectacular dunk, you do not get rewarded, because every second dunk gets a 50.
Ya you basically have to do something so crazy that it risks injury or get gimmicky and use props which I think shouldn’t even be allowed sorta
It’s also fairly risky. For most of these guys the All star weekend is essentially their only week of consistent rest throughout the season.
I watch the Vince contest live.
Unless you were in a big city and watching street ball, around very high level basketball or knew what AND 1 mixtapes were, you had no context.
Most people were not terminally online. We didn’t have social media like we do today.
When the masses saw Vince dunk, they literally had never seen anything like that before. Especially after the dunk contest went on hiatus and the game was so heavily defense focused.
Today, social media and the availability of pretty much every form of media 24⁄7 has desensitized people.
Anyone can turn on Youtube and watch some no name dude whose only skill in life is jumping do insane dunks. Filling the NBA dunk contest with that makes it even less appealing.
That’s very stupid I want to see nba athletes trying to dunk, not dunk athletes dunking.
I think this is only half right. The problem with the current era is most of them try dunks that are WAY above their level and it sucks the air out of the building. All the misses suck. All the “just barely made the attempt” dunks suck.
Imagine if Dominique and MJ kept trying and missing between the legs dunks instead of sticking to what they were good at. Execution can still win. You don’t have to do a 1080 blindfolded through-the-prolapsed-asshole to win the dunk contest.
If somebody pulled out Vince’s 360 mill TODAY and did it on the first try with the extension and power Vince had, that’s still a 50 EASY.
All of this would be true and make sense if these same basketball players you talk about wouldn’t be doing all these crazy ass dunks during practices or when they say iF i WaS iN tHe duNk CoNtEsT and proceeds to do some insane shit
There’s virtually no upside to doing it. There’s only downside. Pay the winner $10m and youll start to get players giving a shit about it.
There’s virtually no upside to doing it.
Streets still talk about 2000 dunk contest because stars did some amazing shit.
But now that shit has been done. It’s kinda like the x games with diminishing returns after having reached the peak.
I’m sure there’s some cool new shit every now and then but every year? I’m not so sure.
The 2015 DC showed we didn’t reach the peak though
Not sure when the last time you watched skateboarding was, but the sport has evolved like crazy since the early 2000s. Pros started doing shit we thought wasn’t even possible back then, and now you have the next gen of kids throwing those tricks out at 12 years old and still pushing further.
But that is the whole point of their sport, it’s to push boundaries and do crazy innovative tricks in competition. The point of basketball is to win basketball games, and trick dunks don’t really increase your likelihood of doing that.
They still talk about 80-90s dunk contests too
Yes michael Jordan built his brand off it, certainly can be marketed into oblivion.
Also, if Draymond wanted to keep it real he’d blame LeBron for changing the perception around stars never doing it but he’s too busy glazing
2000 was pre-YouTube and pre smart phones. Watching basketball players dunk has gotten way easier and way less novel. And 2000 was an exception even then as it had the best NBA dunker ever. Does anyone care or remember much about the contests 10 years before or after?
Aaron Gordon put on one of the greatest dunk shows ever
Actually yes, people do. Isaiah Rider? Harold Minor? Dwight Howard? J Rich? D Mason?
They talk about Aaron Gordon vs Zach Levine and that was less than a decade ago.
It’s gonna be 10 years next February. I know. Technically you’re right.
Would need more serious judging if there was a cash prize. The judges are a joke too.
There is a cash prize. It’s just way smaller. That suggested \(10m is 100x the current prize of \)100k.
\(100k is serious incentive for Mac McClung, who only earned more on his regular salary last year. But Shaedon Sharpe just signed an extension starting at \)20m/yr.
The NBA players we want to see in the dunk contest are making way too much to care about that prize money as is.
Wades dumbass
They already make so much money. They shouldn’t have to be paid even more to do something that’s technically a part of their job. I’m not siding with the NBA, as a corporation they’re even greedier than the players themselves, but that’s the thing, the players are multimillionaires who get more and more entitled with each new contract. Your job is to play basketball as best you can for the fans who make it possible for u to do so and make all that money. And the all star break is quite literally THE fan event. If they can’t be asked to give a crap making 50 or 60 mil year, then just cancel the even atp.
Maybe some, but basically just the same group that gives a shit now.
Zach LaVines of the world might sigh up more often. The top stars still wouldn’t be wasting the time prepping for the event.
Endorsements have been made from the dunk contest tho
Hi, I’m Chauncey Billups. How can I be a jury member ?
I wouldn’t want to do it after watching Aaron Gordon get robbed
Kidnap the families of all participants. Winner gets their family back plus can choose to rescue the family of one other participant.
Tell me that wouldn’t be must see TV!
Jaylen brown got made fun of for doing it because it wasn’t that hype. It’s hard for normal nba players to make a dunk that’s more hype than people that do it full time.
He got made fun of because his dunks were cheeks
And ya’ll wonder why no stars want to do it
Regardless yall are severely underestimating the sensitivity of the current player lol. We’re talking an era where guys are checking their phones at halftime to see what people are saying on social media about how they’re playing
It’s not hard to believe at all that there’s guys who’d rather not do it all than do it and have a bad performance and get roasted
They do that at halftime for real…?
I don’t think it’s only cowardice. I remember a lot of them got disillusioned after the Aaron Gordon robberies.
This predates the Aaron Gordon contests.
It was in decline for sure, but you still had All-Star level players doing it like Blake, Iggy, Demar, PG, John Wall, and Giannis. After 2016, though, it felt like no one wanted to do it anymore.
Those guys all did it in their rookie contract seasons and before they became real stars
That’s true. I still feel like it was an improvement to outright G-leaguers now haha
That’s facts. Nothing like Mac McClung winning the contest in b2b years and he’s not even in the league
He technically was this year (!)
It’s cowardice, but I don’t blame them, they don’t have anything to gain from it and they risk embarrassment, it’s just not worth it
I think also once they saw LeBron not do it, it set a standard that a superstar didn’t have to. Which is a shame b/c Dwight’s is still one of the best contests ever.
It’s a small nit to pick with LeBron, but MJ did the dunk contest and 3pt contest.
actually the stars stopped participating in the 90s and the contest was actually discontinued 1 year. Lebron just continued that trend.
Sadly, Jaylen Brown had the courage to do it and was made fun of when he didn’t do well, which set back all-stars participating quite a bit
I don’t think it’s cowardice as much as people think. That narrative started with people saying LeBron was too scared to do it. But the reality is the NBA makes a shit load of money off the players entering these events, when most players would rather just hang out and have a drink with their friends and watch. There’s no upside to them entering, but plenty of reasons why they wouldn’t besides the tired “they scared” argument.
Yes because let’s get injured in a pointless game halfway through the season when your pushing for a playoff spot
Except JB
Tell those All Stars to do the damn contest and do it seriously then
Nah just need the best guys to do it and set precedent. LeBron essentially killed it when he never did it once. All the top dogs before him, Kobe, Michael had at least one and those were legendary. Once LeBron didn’t do it every player had an excuse
Kobe’s dunk contest was legendary…? As a Kobe glazer, be so serious man
Plenty of “top dogs” never touched the dunk contest before LeBron. Magic, Bird, Duncan, Shaq. In fact, the only guys who did the dunk contest while also being arguably the best player in the league at some point are Dr. J, MJ, Kobe, and Giannis.
Wembanyama in the dunk contest vs Bol Bol
11 ft rims
terrible list of examples lol
Duncan, Magic, and Bird were never huge dunkers. Bigs like Shaq have a large aesthetic disadvantage because dunking looks too ‘easy’ for them, vs someone like Maclung or Nate Robinson
People made fun of JB for doing it because it wasn’t up to peoples standards. Most nba players won’t come up with a good routine over someone that specializes in it
ppl didn’t make fun of JB for doing it, they made fun of him for doing stupid dunks worse than his in-game ones, like jumping over a chair and wearing a Michael Jackson glove
ppl didn’t make fun of JB for doing it, they made fun of him for doing stupid dunks worse than his in-game ones
Yea why didn’t he have Gobert stand in front of the rim and play defense so he could dunk on him. Real missed opportunity there.
Maybe he could have jumper over another person?
That would be similar, has been done in the dunk contest, and isn’t super lame.
Who gives a shit? Go out there try a few dunks and have fun if you bomb just laugh it off lmao. I hate that as a society we’ve let the fear of strangers opinions on the internet take away from the joy of doing things.
I mean sure, but then people complain that the dunk contest was boring and want better dunkers/routines, which means bringing in people that specialize in dunking
Unironically Ja would do a lot for his reputation if he back pedaled on the “in-game dunker” comments he made a few years ago.
I get it with a guy like Ant, but the Lavine’s, the Zion’s who we know aren’t all stars/playoff contenders would really revive some goodwill with fans/sponsors.
Very true, the guys who aren’t at the all star level could easily gain some good press here. Ja or Zion haven’t accomplished anything positive in years, winning the dunk contest would be at least something. Hell, it might even end up as their greatest career accomplishment respectively.
I get that Ja is in decline, but he’s already made All-NBA.
Yeah Ja’s already made All NBA, so not his greatest accomplishment, but on his current trajectory when his contract runs out he’s going to be pressed to find a team that wants to give him like a $25-30m AAV contract. He’s going to have to realize a little fan service can only help him, pretty much any chance of him being treated like a top 2 option again relies on it.
Dunk contest winner being your greatest accomplishment ever isn’t that great when it just puts you in the company of NBA legend Mac McClung.
it gives you more exposure
Terrence Ross, Gerald green, Nate Robinson, Jason Richardson, Desmond Mason. All solid players who had decently long careers. Nate won a sixth man & J-Rich was on some good playoff teams but none of them ever made an all star or all NBA.
Hell, zac lavine might as well be in this camp too. People remember his dunk contest wins more than the 2 times he made the all star team or playoffs.
People still bring up Spud Webbs dunk contest that was almost 40 years ago. It was a big deal that he won, and it’s his biggest career highlight.
Is anyone going to bring up (1x) 2nd Team All NBA player Ja Morant in 10 years, let alone 40?
Winning the dunk contest in a memorable way puts you in the company of Michael Jordan, Dominique Wilkins, Vince Carter, Kobe Bryant, etc.
https://youtu.be/r1YRJvFvlgg?si=E0vlIGypNvqLsQSR
Dwight Howard will be talked about for decades because of his dominance in Orlando, DPOY and Lakers bubble ring.
But you cannot discount his dunk contest highlights also helping push his popularity to the stratosphere.
Jaylen Brown did it and a lot of people gave him shit about
Brown was probably the biggest name in recent slam dunks since who Lavine and Gordon? And he was a legit All-Star/All-NBA who willingly joined the contest
His dunks were not flashy nor creative , but dude had the balls as an established name
I’ll always give him props for this. Yeah it was garbage but idec, I just looked at him in so much of a better light because he just didn’t gaf.
I think if there’s one thing he’s proven time and time again, it’s that he’s able to laugh at his own expense
Underrated skill these days
I don’t even remember him joining so I don’t think it hurt his reputation anyway
I want a full fledged beef between Draymond and Mac McClung
Didn’t realize Mac was a European Center
Man is saying all this, and the number of players who actually want to participate declines every year…. They don’t even show up for the All-Star Game.
All-Star weekend is an event to celebrate the best in the sport, but it’s also for the fans. If the best don’t want to celebrate/participate, then what other choice is there?
I would love all star weekend to be about the fans but it feels like it’s about the advertisers
Adam Silver’s more focused on the money lost over the pandemic and will gladly plaster every last corner of the league in ads, product and consumers be damned.
As a LeBron fan, i always kinda thought it was his fault. Stars did it and then it became a gimmick.
I still love me an amazing dunk, but the dunk competition is just sorta played out. I mean, there’s not really something a player is going to do that hasn’t already been done.
And I think back to something like the famous MJ vs ‘Nique battle. The newness/freshness/uniqueness of it is just gone.
In-game dunks are where it’s at.
Have you seen the dunks the pro dunkers do? That shit is absolutely wild and they frequently do stuff I’ve never seen.
NBA players can’t do anything new or fresh because they don’t spend hours every day working on that skill.
Exactly why would they ruin their money by practicing irrelevant dunks
Awesome irrelevant dunks. Put some respect on those guys who put in the work.
I think you nailed it here. Competitive dunkers devote all of their hours to developing new and innovative dunks because that is their whole sport. It’s worth the effort and potential injury risks because the whole point of what they do is dunk contests.
The same is not true for basketball players. They’re trying to win basketball games. Trick dunks don’t really help them do that.
Everybody said this too until Aaron Gordon pulled out two dunks we’d never seen before
Might as well change it G-League Weekend. They’re the only players that would want to be there.
Mac McClung has got one more in him. Just to spite Draymond.
A layup talking point for Draymond
If MJ, the goat, can do the dunk contest, the contest ain’t too good for anybody.
I agree, but the same dunks Jordan won those dunk contests with probably wouldn’t even get you particularly good scores now.
Maybe but the requirements to have a good dunk today have changed drastically. We’ve seen everything except a 720
ngl a dunk contest of non dunkers like draymond green would be hilarious
Replace the dunk contest with a game where only dunks count. Alleyoops are 3 points, 4 points if the pass starts behind the 3 point line. You can take a shot to beat the shot clock, but it won’t count.
You give the best in game dunkers and best passers a showcase, no one cares about competiveness anyway so its a game of highlights.
No zone defense.
You can take a shot to beat the shot clock, but it won’t count.
Maybe to reset the clock and you retain possession to try again?
I like it. Adds another layer of strategy.
I don’t know how we protect everyone’s ankles from jumping all the time in this kind of game, but I still think it’s better than anything the dunk contest has been in a decade.
reminder that the rising star players had more playing time in the all star game than first time allstars like herro
imagine having ur career best season and getting 8 mins while u watch a rookie play more than u. god that tournament idea was so fking ass
Ya Sengun got screwed. Was disappointing
Worst person you know make a good point
Afraid of getting beaten at dunks by someone out of the league…
Unironically yes. Scrap the contest and just get the best dunkers in the world to put on a show. People will 100% prefer that over whatever shit McClung & co put up every year.
I don’t see your ass lining up to sign up for it
Pointless comment, no one expects a player like Draymond to compete in the dunk contest
“We might as well get those guys that do those crazy ass dunks.” For once I agree with Draymond.
Just abolish the dunk contest.
Just like his comments last year about the G league team, he’s ignored that the reason the NBA tinkers with the All Star weekend is that the All Stars treat it like a fucken joke.
And that’s their right to do so, no one wants to risk getting injured or looking silly, but you lose the right to whinge about the prestige of the event being less when you made it less
Nah this is crazy because if NBA all stars didn’t back out of the dunk contest then that wouldn’t have happened.
Bro making new arguments way after the fact
He talking like we don’t want All-Stars in the dunk contest. Nobody asked for this
Draymond has a great way of being kinda right but still being an asshole about it.
They should elect one player for each team to compete in the contest.
Feels like no one wants to accept that the all-star game is dead. The dunk contest is dead. What’s the motivation for the players? What incentive could you come up with to convince a guy on a $200 million dollar contract to care about the dunk contest?
From google: Players like Ja Morant, Shaedon Sharpe, Zion Williamson, and Anthony Edwards are often discussed as top contenders. Australian rookie Johnny Furphy has drawn attention from NBA legend Vince Carter, who wants to see him compete.
Let’s do a pros vs joes dunk contest, NBA players vs non NBA players, mixed panel of judges,
NBA player ego’s say no.
The NBA needs to leverage the media to pressure more stars to doing the dunk contest.
Do something like a fan vote/player vote on the 4 players they want to see, and have the media (all of the loud ones like SAS/Perk/etc) shit on them constantly if they refuse to do it. Make it so that a player can no longer be voted once they participate at least once, so fans don’t repeatedly vote in the same guys.
If they fake an injury to not participate? Fine, you’re automatically voted in the next year. You can hide but can’t run.
The only thing players care about nowadays is their brand. Make it so that it’d embarrassing to not participate than participating and losing.
All star weekend needs a 1v1 tournament. Mind boggling this hasn’t happened yet
LOVE this idea. Holy shit that would be amazing to watch.
Actually yes. Please do that. And if you wanna keep the players involved, have them act as “sponsors” for the dunkers
Jordan Kilganon and Isaiah Rivera have done dunks that no NBA player could ever do
The dunk contest is cooked. We’ve hit the ceiling a while ago.
“And as I sip my soda that I’m sure somebody spit in, I just would like to say to all of you… kiss my ass, you rotten motherfuckers! Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go home and put some water in Buc Nasty’s momma’s dish. Good evening.”
~Silky Johnson
Put a shot blocker in there
Let’s see who can dunk on Wemby, 1000x more exciting than the same stale product we’ve been given
This is a culture change that was allowed by the league. I really don’t like saying it, but I miss the days of David Stern. Dude was somewhat of an asshole that kept what we have today either out of or at bay in the game. But his “assholery” transformed the league into what it was before Silver took over.
Let’s see dray in the dunk contest
The fix for All-star weekend is a 1v1 tourney. Gets the people going, and 1’s is typically much less injury risk. I want to see KD cook some of these young mfers
Who is willingly listening to all this Draymond green content
The dunk contest and the all star game exists to sell the NBA product. It makes zero sense to have non-NBA players in it. Yes, there are great dunks all over YouTube. But people want to see what the best players in the world can do. Players should take some pride in selling their league.
#signmacmcclung
Stop playing with my boy and give him a permanent roster spot, not on G League!
Dunk, skills and 3pt contest should only be for the current all-stars
It would be kinda fun to have Jordan Kilganon in a dunk contest with NBA Players
Blame the all stars for chickening out from the dunk contest.
The ASG used to mean something for players, they took pride in being in it even jf they didn’t make the team. Now, players find it a chore and would sit it out.
All they want is the selection so they can get their big contract.
Why does anyone expect conference rivals to play together for a single game, then go back to normal? Could Rudy and Dray be in the same locker room after the choking fiasco?
To save the dunk contest and All Star weekend, I would lean into the brand wars. Team Nike vs Team Adidas. Team Reebok (or foreign based companies)vs Team Puma .
Maybe reward the best in-game dunk from the first part of the season.
Tell your peers to man up and be in the contest then Draymond.
I’m all for it. If they’re going to shoehorn Youtubers into the All-Star weekend anyway, it might as well be the dunkers. I do wonder how many attempts their crazy dunks take before they get the one that actually goes online, though.
It’s time to do away with the all-star weekend.
The whole thing is a joke.
Draymond should enter
Maybe I missed something, but the G league is part of the NBA right?
I get what he’s saying, but it’s not like they picked up some randos off YouTube or something. You’re pulling from a pool of less than 1,000 players between both leagues combined… Can’t say I’m heavily opposed.
That said, All-Star has sucked. Three teams sucks. Just give us East vs. West, or legit USA vs. World if you want to see actual good basketball.
I been seeing this. The NBA dunk contest needs to be replaced by professional dunkers. Mac Mclung was cool, but it hasn’t been that interesting since 2020.
Draymond is such a bad speaker. At least this clip was very nothing
He has a point, at this point yes, just make the dunk contest about the most talented dunkers in the world.
I think there are very few NBA players that can compete with them so right now there is no win for NBA players to participate when we are all expecting dunks at the highest level. As I said, the majority of NBA players are at the level of Jaylen Brown which was shit in comparison with the others.
Then participate in the dunk competition you big dummy
Every All Star must participate in at least one Saturday Night event. Get rid of the Sunday game. 2 Birds, 1 Stone. You’re welcome!
Jordan Southerland in the dunk content would feed families
Agreed, they should get those youtubers that do the really nasty stuff. Edit: however I would pay money to watch the geriatric dunk contest with Draymond, Haslem and some other oldies doing it.
They should do a “dunk horse” or some way interesting. Feels like it’s all been done.
Yeah, I’d like to see where competing at an NBA All-Star Game event would automatically mean you are in….wait for this….NBA.
Just my two cents.
All-star, lol the dude is completely delusional
Make the dunk contest be during the all star game. Let fans vote on their favorite dunk during the game. This gets the stars in the contest– get into the ASG and you’re in the dunk contest–and it also keeps the actual all star game a little interesting.
This F’n guy hjas made the league worse. He’s so negative. I don’t like him as a human. I hope for better league leaders going forward…
He could’ve just answered the question it’s not that deep
Get the chinese 40 year old guy who jumped across 10 people vs Mac Cluong
Ant Edwards, Shaedon Sharpe, Amen Thompson, Ja Morant. Make it happen
All star weekend as an event is inherently flawed, no one really wants to be an all star because they’d rather go on vacation then have to play more basketball. Which is completely understandable, they either need more incentive for players to participate or a bigger mid season break for everyone.
Technically mcclung was in the nba. Blame the weak ass “all stars” who have been too afraid to compete. But this is an idiotic take because the dunk contest and the all star game are separate events. Nate Robinson obi toppin etc were never all stars but they won the event. Didn’t hear this complaint when mini nate was dunking over Dwight superfreak Howard.
Used to be the dunk contest was one of the few ways for even a star player to “go viral” in pre social media days and so you had guys like Jordan and Wilkens doing it. Now there is just no incentive for them… any idiot can just do a podcast and get press. (Green has proven this)
Open tryouts for the dunk contest would be awesome. Have them push like 20 lunatics thru with zero rules 🤣
They need to do more of a county fair approach. Who can dunk with the most weight attached to them, longest/highest dunk, “Dunkcracker” (two players lay on their back with a ball on their stomach under their own separate rim and they race each other off the ground and try to posterize each other)…
He’s got that Barry bonds head
No surprise. The load management generation doesn’t want to play in the all star game
No surprise. People love looking at history through rose tinted glasses and lying about what was happening 40 years ago
The dunk contest sucks because there are only so many ways to put a ball through a hoop. It’s not complicated
What’s the point of it then? Just cancel it altogether.
Hate to say it, but FanDuel/Draftkings sponsorship. Gambling $\( could make the prize pool \)10 million. Live rolling feed of the betting odds. Would bring interest and excitement
Yeah the all star weekend is supposed to be an employee celebration..
Draymond Green has been talking a lot of nonsense lately
No but seriously - get those guys that do the crazy ass dunks. NBA players are too bubble wrapped these days. They won’t ever try hard in any of these all star events other than the Three-Point contest. But the dunk celebs will go 110% because they’ve never had that kind of exposure. It would be so much better.
Let’s just turn it into a full fledged WWE dunk contest. One player challenges another player to a dunk match, head-to-head to determine who is better. If players call each other out online or in a press conference, that would be so electric. Whether it’s a tongue in cheek call out between friends, more of a real rivalry, or running back Aaron Gordon vs. Zach Levine.
It would be fun to have a card of matches vs. a bracket. That way people can have like three head to head dunks and not have to “save” any for later IF they were going to advance.
It blows my mind that all these players that felt they could be better at their commentary are the exact same as media outlets of missing the nuance all the same
I mean we rather have the all stars participate but… they wont
The whole point of asking him this question is to get insight into who SHOULD be in the contest that he’s complaining aren’t doing it. He’s contributing to the problem by not using his platform to try and urge those stars to do it.
You know a topic is wack af when Draymond dropping common sense points instead of teammates 👊
NBA used to be so cool
