Steve Kerr on the Jonathan Kuminga DNP tonight: “Happens to everyone in the league— other than the stars. Guys come in and out of the rotation, depending on who’s available, how the team is playing.”
Kerr on Pat Spencer: He’s that motherfucker
Kerr on Kuminga: Fuck that motherfucker
It’s hilarious how Pat Spencer, some rando walk in who originally played lacrosse, has leaped ahead of JK.
The Warriors have always struggled to integrate low BBIQ guys into Kerr’s system. Every single time they draft athleticism over BBIQ, it fails to work out.
Number 1 example is Otto Porter vs Kelly Oubre. They put up like identical stats in Washington, but came over here and it was painfully obvious which one isn’t going to be an assistant coach someday
I also think Kerr having such a short leash with certain types of players really hurts the team in some ways, look at how good Oubre has been these past two years. Never would have happened under Kerr b/c he would never give him playing time.
Oubre started 50 of 55 games and played over 30 minutes a game. And missed about ten defensive assignments a game
Really shows how recency bias affects the mindset of people. We brought in Oubre of his shooting and to fill in the gap for Klay. So naturally he got a fair amount of minutes. Him playing good now, 5 years later, is a sign of improvement.
Similar to Dilon Brooks. Dude genuinely got better.
If we could have stuck Will Richard’s brain into Oubre, they’d be building a statue for him outside Chase
A big, beautiful, chiseled bronze statue
Oh wait that’s just Oubre himself
Oubre missed the first 20 shots that he took i think jeez he was abysmal
I swear to God if a golden retriever somehow got on the Warriors roster you people would still complain that Kerr doesn’t play them enough.
For the Warriors, Oubre played 55 games, started 50, and averaged 30 mins a game. He averaged 15 points a game - about the same that he’s averaged the last few years on the 76ers.
None of the facts support your idea that Kerr somehow ruined Oubre’s development, but “Kerr bad” I guess
If Air Bud was on GSW, we won’t be having this conversation at all
too bad dogs can’t play basketball.
Not with that attitude
Oubre had good playing time in 2021. He was just atrocious shooting the ball, got injured a bit on his wrist iirc and sometimes would ball hog a bit. He was at times the 2nd option. He was aggressive, but the warriors couldn’t go anywhere with him as the 2nd option.
I love that Tsunami papi has gotten better. We liked him and his story when he played for us. Wish him success.
Do you remember his warriors stint tho lol
Fox News level of gaslight
I used to be a big JK defender, but I’m completely out on him.
He simply doesn’t want to consistently have a winning mentality. The lack of maturity in 4 years here is so pathetic.
JK always fools everyone when he gets back from a hiatus by playing the way Kerr and everyone wants him to for like 3 games. After that he just reverts to himself. You can’t change who you are
im out of the loop, is kuminga that bad?
No he isn’t.
Steve Kerr hates this man with every fiber of his being
100% there is no other way
No way the FO intended to pay him him 20m to fetch gatorades and keep the seats warm
the FO intended for him to fetch gatorades, keep seats warm, and be a 20m salary to attach every pick and swap to after Jan 15
To be fair the FO held the line forever in negotiations for precisely the reason of having a team option that makes him an expiring salary if desired. If he was on a 2⁄1 player option he might be untradeable (or have to attach assets to move him)
It was the right call he was awful last night and then the warriors blow out the Bulls. Like why does it even matter at this point lol
It matters cause the weirdos are in it for the narratives and drama, not the game
The NBA has become real housewives for dudes.
As an aside, I think a shorter season would help with this. They don’t have the die hards of hockey, the scarcity of the nfl, or the superfluous product of the MLB. Fuck, the commissioner said highlights is fine. I mean it gets dollars but I’m drunk and rambling my b
JK has no excuses tho. Steve Kerr winning games in the NBA with the Santa Cruz Warriors. His system works.
Aren’t they 1 game above .500? Technically they are winning but it’s not exactly “Winning”
Again look at the roster, Curry has barely played and theyre playing in a stacked western conference.
On a horrible game schedule too.
So this team is worse than a G League team?
They blew out an NBA with literally Jimmy and a bunch of g leaguers
Jimmy is at his best when surrounded by g-leaguers
Maybe he slept with Herro’s girlfriend.
Respectfully Kuminga is 8 for 32 the last 3 games
Lacob is the only one that rides for Kuminga
and me. Future all star once he gets out from under the Kerr
Dude will put up amazing numbers on the Washington Basketball Team.
Which Warriors pick, of this era, has a NBA career after they left the Warriors? Poole, maybe Rollins?
I wonder what he did to make him this mad.
Maybe the owner pushed for this
What he did was be an awful fit with the team and the team is always worse on the floor with him
That is Kuminga needing the ball to be good and Golden State having Draymond, Butler who are awful fits with him, Kuminga is good but not a player you give the ball to
It gets worse that he got extended just because he had value as a trade piece
Exactly. People are acting like Kerr has some sort of nefarious or corrupt rationale.
When there’s an obvious explanation right in front of us.
Kerr played Jordan Bell against prime James Harden in a game 7 in the conference finals lol he’s never been afraid to play guys, if you suck you suck
Jordan ‘Cash considerations’ Bell. A shame that he didn’t pan out but he did look somewhat good in his first season.
He was born 10 years too late. Stiff hips and had two left feet like former draft pick Damian Jones. Inability to put the ball on the floor. Warriors forced other teams to play and draft highly skilled/high feel in order for them to keep up. Inability to shoot. Too small to play and guard centers. Not a good nba level rim protector. Seen it coming a mile way, his Oregon tape didn’t come across as an NBA player.
A foreign concept that seems to be lost on so many people, he doesn’t have some dumbass agenda to push he’s not “stunting his growth” jk has not utilized his opportunities well and has been the same player for 5 years
He played him 17 minutes because Zaza was injured and Dray had spent way too much time at center. There were literally no other centers on the roster.
I thought Zaza had already been benched and removed from the rotation after Allstar break that season. Center rotation against Houston was mostly Green/Looney/Bell/West, against all other teams McGee got most of the starts
Kerr said as much himself. His quote was basically, “We benched Kuminga tonight because Jimmy came back and we like playing Jimmy because he’s good and don’t like playing Kuminga because he sucks.”
Can’t really fault him, like anyone in the league would play Butler over Kuminga obviously.
But yeah Kuminga just isn’t a great fit, feels like he needs the ball all the time and he’s not exactly the best slasher when he deos have the ball either.
So basically… Kuminga just isn’t that guy.
same thing during the olympics with tatum
the Bulls announcers were talking about Draymond having to calm in down towards the end of the game yesterday, after he went 1-10 and got benched
People at the game were saying he was crying underneath his towel.
He doesn’t fit Kerr’s system nor the prototype of player he’s looking for when it comes to a player with his athleticism. Kerr thought could be a Aaron Gordon, Shawn Marion, Andre Iguodola variant. But if you actually studied his high school and Gleague ignite tape, you could assess that he was nowhere near or becoming that type of player. Not even good coaching could get rid of his bad habits. He’s actually lucky he went the Gleague instead of Auburn or Texas Tech because he would have fell to the end of the first round having to deal with college spacing.
Kerr didn’t even like him predraft. Lacob and his son were fans of JK and muscled Bob to take JK. Kerr wanted Giddey or Franz or Scottie, but Scottie and Giddey went higher than expected. Lacob wanted a high risk/high reward player at 7 to fulfill his two timeline desires. And his son thought the team needed more athleticism and less skill. They viewed Franz having less athleticism as having a lower ceiling. But Kerr also wanted Chris Duarte.
Now ever since that draft, they’ve only selected high feel, skill guys even if they were to have lower ceilings. Will Richard is the lone pick they have made since then that has had any semblance of nba level athleticism.
to be fair, we haven’t had a high draft pick aside from Podz (19th pick) since JK. Most have been 2nd rounders. At least QP is starting to pan out. Just wished Ryan Rollins stayed with us and we gave him a chance.
Cam Whitmore was right there for the taking for them and they wisely* chose the analytics darling with the lower ceiling and possibility for immediate impact compared to the remaining first round guys left. Analytics hated Cam the same way it hated Kuminga. Cam was pegged as a potential cornerstone high ceiling guy who simply needs more coaching because of his athleticism and strength. His red flags were so bad, not even Kerr could save him. Same is true for Kuminga.
Edit— since ppl are misinterpreting what I’m saying , I’m restating Cams draft day profile. I scouted him heavily leading up to the draft, he had one of the worst analytical profiles I’ve ever laid my eyes on in the last 15 years. Draft experts stupidly pegged him as a top 5 prospect that could potentially turn into a cornerstone player but simply needed better coaching. HOF level coaching wasn’t going to save Cam.
Cam and Podz were the top two remaining picks by pick 19. Warriors could have went with the high risk high reward option who had zero idea on how to play 5v5 basketball or the low ceiling high floor analytics darling in Podz. They could stuck with repeating the Kuminga mistake but they didn’t.
I don’t see how the guy averaging 17 minutes a game for the 3-19 Wizards entered this conversation as someone they missed out on. Cam just shot 2-11 in back to back games, and he’s only a year younger than Brandon.
You are not understanding the point at all. My goodness.. Do people not read anymore??
Cam was a projected top 5-8 prospect before the draft started. He fell all the way to 20. The comment stated they didn’t have any high picks to make a play at those Kuminga level players. Podz was pick 19.
Cam and Podz were atop the draft board by the time the warriors were up to select. They could have compounded their two timeline mistake choices and go for the high risk high reward athletic specimen like they did with Kuminga but instead went with the expected low ceiling analytics darling in Podz. They changed their draft philosophy and it’s worked well with around the margins roster spots.
Warrior fans all over social media wanted MDJ to pair Kuminga with Cam not knowing the analytics hated both prospects. Cam had one of the worst analytic profiles I’ve ever come across. MJD was even questioned about selecting Podz over Cam.
Cam stinks dude he’s not an nba player . He’s athletic and chucks and that’s it
Exactly. That’s my point. The warriors could have gone with Cam to see if he’d pan out after Kuminga instead of Podz. But they stuck with their changing philosophy of analytic darling’s meets expected lower ceiling, instead of the high risk high reward athletic specimen that doesn’t know how to play basketball.
If he was worth the playing time, he would get it. Unfortunately this team, whether those expectations are realistic or not, is trying to compete. Every game matters. This team doesn’t have the luxury of letting Kuminga figure his own stuff out. And since coming back from the knee injury he also hasn’t had the same burst he showed to start the year. I personally don’t think he’s very good, but he has some gifts and needs reps to realize his potential.
Just based off watching his offseason workouts against his agent’s cousins, he was never going to figure it out. The potential isn’t there. Watch his feet and hips as he moves. It’s not natural basketball player like. He’s Congolese with poor hips, that’s like not even possible. I’ve been scouting him since he was in New Jersey. The burst is still there, it’s just that the lack of counters to evade the threat of the incoming second and third defenders slow him down. He plays the same way as he did in high school.
He’s Congolese with poor hips, that’s like not even possible.
if you’re african, you know this is actually cold lol.
explain for a non african??
it’s a stereotype of congolese that they are very very good dancers, especially when it comes to using the hips.
so wouldn’t they have good hips then?
Yes, so they’re pointing out how unlikely it is that Kuminga has poor hip movement as a Congolese person.
100% fellow Warriors dark ages homie. We’re trying to compete and JK’s attitude, bbiq, and salary are some of the things preventing it. We need a center, not a non-spacing forward. We also need more depth because Steph/Jimmy/Dray cannot handle their workload, but it’s unlikely we’ll get both or be able to compete. Just glad to see Steph ballin hard in his twilight.
From rumors, his agent was trying to go straight to Lacob to get Kuminga into the starting lineup rather than just have him earn his minutes.
I don’t know any boss who likes people going over their head.
But it seems a tad more than that lol.
If you watch the games it’s not hard. He’s just a really bad dumb player who’s only positive is athleticism but he doesn’t use it that well
He doesn’t even really try to hide it lol
I don’t even think he hates the person ( from all accounts everyone loves him) I just think he knows he doesn’t fit with this team
WTF were the Warriors thinking giving him a 25M/year contract? Yes the 2nd year is a team option but it’s still not an insignificant portion of their cap.
Flexibility
Allows us to trade him for better pieces as per the RFA rules(I think) we would most likely had to add another player (buddy or moody) to get quality pieces as we could only take a percentage of salary back with whatever trade we did now we have more flexibility to do a trade, hence why we didn’t trade for monk or Royce and nick richards
Definitely has to be with how little he tries playing him a lot of times
If you have bbiq kuminga is a bum . He’s athletic but he doesn’t actually impact the game by being physical on defence with it; so you just get low iq decisions and forcing things , he’s just not very good at basketball and the fact he never can shoot well enough is a death sentence
Facts
I am not a huge fan of Kerr at ALL and even I know that he’s completely right now playing Kuminga
There is going to be a lot of leaks from both camps the moment Kuming gets traded.
there were already a ton this past summer lmao and all for JK to just sign the contract that was on the table
It’s remarkable the breakup didn’t happen over this summer.
Restricted free agency will do that
leaks? his agent tweets mid game
Might be more than the Epstein’s files.
Does the media cover any other bench player like Kuminga? His ceiling is 20 ppg for the wizards or kings for a play in spot
Just break up already!!!
Can’t be traded until January 15th. Whoever is stupid enough to trade for Kuminga shouldn’t be sending any picks or good players back.
Kuminga is the filler. Warriors would have to attach a pick (s) to get something better than Kuminga
Ironic you should say this since the Kings were rumored to have wanted Kuminga.
Every Kings fan with a brain knows that’s just a sign of how bad Kuminga is. If we want you, then you’re probably terrible.
Still are lol
For malik fucking monk lol
Is that the Wizards music I hear?
No
No way!
JoKu is gonna do amazing in a different system.
If I look at your profile, then what are the odds that you’re a Warriors fan?
I’m a NBA fan, not a fan of a specific team.
Kuminga - DNP CD(Did not play, coach’s dungeon)
I don’t know how good or bad Kuminga has been but bro is gonna mark every Warriors game on his calendar after he gets traded in like a week lol
I promise you the Warriors will not be giving a fuck, he’s ass
He’ll score 30 while his team gets blown out by 35 points
With 1 assist and 6 TO
These ass players usually end up shitting on you
Man you’re getting downvoted, but this is a helluva comment. Take my upvote.
He’s not ass, but he is wildly inconsistent. He’s shows flashes of real serious talent, and then he goes and plays like an absolute bum then next game.
Yeah fair we’ve never seen a player in a bad situation improve in a new one
Glad we agree
but the warriors are also ass
[deleted]
Good for him. Malaki Flynn scored 50. It means nothing in the grand scheme
They sure look like they appreciate him lmao
Then take it from his coach not me
He started the season with a couple of good games and then went back to the same dogshit from the last 5 seasons of his career
Yes, I’m sure Kerr is a competent coach and not wrong to bench him. But it’s just this whole drama over whether you guys want him or not. You spent the whole summer wrangling his situation and then kept him just to not even play him during garbage time. I hope y’all just trade him soon so both sides can finally stop pretending they gaf lol
Im pretty sure we didnt even want him then. We just wanted a contract signed so he’d be tradeable this January.
Can’t be traded until January 15th
Damn, team had a blowout in what seems like ages and he still doesn’t play a single minute. He didn’t look great last game or any of the ones since he came back. Change is inevitable
He looked great at the start of the season, then kinda fell off.
Scouting report shifted and him getting to his feelings internally about coming come off the bench.
Yeah that’s the tough thing. He’s shown he can play well in this system and fit in. Obviously different with Steph out but he looks like how Bron was at the end of the Suns game, old and lethargic.
The story of JK
Kerr might swing on Kuminga at practice and leak the video himself.
Another Jayson Tatum diss I see
They’re like that couple who should have gotten divorced years ago, but are keeping it together for the children.
Actually baffles me the Warriors had 3 lottery picks in 2 years and decided to draft 3 project players that they had no plans on actually developing
Imagine if they’d hit on even just one of those
Next pick after Kuminga: Franz Wagner
Two picks after Moody: Alperen Şengün (Trey Murphy III after that)
We like Moody tho :/
I like my Sketchers, but I love my Prada backpack.
1 pick after wiseman —> lamelo
Ffs
I love how they keep asking him about Jonathan Kuminga, lol.
Guess Tatum isn’t a star in Steve’s mind.
I have no dog in this fight and this isn’t even an observation about the Kuminga situation per say but I feel like Kerr’s tenure with the Warriors will end in tandem with Curry
he always said so
he doesn’t like to grow young players and he’s had his back issues
unless they get him another superstar to keep going after Steph he’s done in a few years or coaches another team with a competitive roster
Mismanagement of assets by the Ws, just like with Wiseman, as soon as they realized the talent didn’t fit, both should’ve been traded when value was higher.
DNP - Getting traded as soon as legally possible
Tomorrow on ESPN: Kerr says Jonathan Kuminga is not a star - Agree?
Is Kuminga really worth talking about in the regular season when theres actual news happening?
Your clown ass still going to ESPN and thinking it’s news on there?
Im in Canada, we dont do ESPN
Ya you do it’s just called TSN
Gui Santos is just a better basketball player.
I think it happens to end of bench guys a lot but I’d be surprised if Rui or even Laravia got a DNP-CD out of nowhere.
I know theirs basketball fit issues but Kerr has not managed the personality well imo.
I just want Kuminga to go elsewhere already so we can see whether he’s actually good or not.
Wiseman just needs a fresh situation!
Playing next to Steph Curry is apparently super hard!
An off-season with the Heat and he’d be fun in their breakneck offense
imo he doesn’t have the handle, shooting, or quick decision making for that iso / drive / kick out style
Wait I actually like this idea
worked for ryan rollins/ty jerome
Those guys actually know their roles and can play in the flow of an offense
Kuminga was supposed to be a bench player behind Jimmy this season, get good rep and get traded ASAP
if he can’t outplay Gui Santos and Will Richard perhaps he doesn’t deserve minutes
this situation absolutely does not happen to everybody 😂
He was throwing shade with that stars comment
No doubt JK was pissed
JK needs to go somewhere else where he won’t be locked in Kerr’s system.
He needs a fresh start.
I bet you Steve calls him by his sons name behind his back
Look I think JK has been playing horribly and I think he’s definitely a DNP candidate.
But we all know there is more to this, whatever it is.
Over this season, there have been multiple bad players who have played like ass. Only JK gets the DNP? Doesn’t seem like Kerr’s style when he likes people, because he will give them run to a fault.
We have an abundance of guards, but they all found their way in still.
This is a failure by the ownership and FO not trading him for whatever they could get. They need to trade him for whatever is available just to move on bc it’s painful to watch.
not too painful when they’re winning these games with JK on the bench / DNP-CD’d tho
I liked JK’s transcript following the game. It is what it is. But still think they should trade him for whatever they get.
Is it just me or does the Kerr-Kuminga situation seem personal?
It’s not personal, Kerr just doesn’t like the basketball player and is being forced to have him on his team by the owner
I’m starting to think Kuminga isn’t who Kuminga thinks he is.
Damn Kerry really hates this guy, and he named his son nick
I know teams are just lining up to trade for this guy lol
I can’t believe people are still out here debating Kuminga when he has been getting thoroughly outplayed by Pat Spencer, Quentin Post, Will Richard, Gui Santos and Trayce Jackson-Davis. At this point it’s not about Kerr’s love or hate for him. It’s not about system fit. It’s not about opportunities. He is simply ass.
Oh, we back with this?
Just have Dray sucker punch him, Steve
Kerr-Kuminga Klash
At what point does Kuminga do a full Robert Horry and throw a towel at Kerr’s face? If he really wants to get traded there’s no quicker way.
then why not just trade kuminga..
they’ve been waiting for January 15th for a while
Even happens to Jason Tatum!
Seriously could they not find a trade for him?? Just let him go, man.
January 15th
DNPing Kuminga is crazy. I hate when coaches don’t play through their young players. He needs time to get out of his slump or whatever it is.
Yo no se
Why’d Kuminga stay with gsw?
Gotta wonder what his trade value is at this exact moment. There’s bound to be a few teams that’ll talk themselves into the idea he can help them. Clippers wanna get younger, maybe they’ll go after him. Bucks are desperate to keep the season alive, I can see them gambling. What will the asking price be?
I really don’t get why they haven’t traded him. At this point it’s definitely been long enough that if was going to work he’d be playing. They desperately need another big who’s over 6’6” haha. I don’t really get their goal
Like why keep a young player that teams would be interested in sitting on your bench for years
I could be wrong but most off season signings can’t be traded until at least mid December. I think it is relative to when a player actually signed so hypothetically because he signed so late, he might not be trade eligible until January.
Yeah its normally Dec 15 but he might be different because of late signing. Its just weird to have Kuminga on your bench for 4 years when the team obviously needs some help
this is the most boring nba saga
Why is this a constant story? Kuminga just isn’t very good
in other words
“Fuck that guy”
My favorite part of this mess is the Warriors believing anyone will trade anything of substance for Kuminga… The guy they shit on and haven’t really wanted for years lmao…
Are warriors fans still delusional enough to think they will be getting a good return for trading this guy?
Meanwhile the Hornets are giving consistent minutes to Antonio Reaves and Kj Simpson.
They really hate this kid
And then we have dudes playing 300 plus games without a hitch.
He’s one-dimensional and when that one dimension is sealed off, he’s not a fast enough at processing what his next move would be. The ball sticks when it’s in his hands, and he’s not good enough for that to happen
was gary payton benched? , was it bc of that video from the fan ? 🤣
He’s not lying. BBallBreakdown on youtube highlighted a lot of Kuminga’s flaws and why he isn’t and likely will never be a star.
