When you take the injuries (Dub missing 95% of the season, Caruso, Dort, IHart all missing 25-30% of the season, etc.) into account, the argument that they would be the 3rd seed does not seem well justified. In any case, Shai is what elevates an otherwise good team into one of the best teams in league history.

You’re not serious. Obviously your roster with just Shai off wouldn’t be a strong candidate to break 70 wins like they are now but they could absolutely push for 60. Offense would take a hit but with the added usage I can see both Chet and JDub improving further, plus Ajay is awesome and guys like Wiggins would probably get more burn… and on defense you’d be just as demonic.

If anything I could even see them going for 65. Think the lack of Shai would be way more detrimental in the playoffs though, no-Shai OKC would struggle a shitton vs a team like Denver if fully healthy

I disagree its a disservice to Shai. Because I genuinely think they’re a 70+ win team with him, and those 10 extra wins between ~60 and ~70 - I said OKC can even push 65 without him, but a fully healthy OKC team with Shai could similarly push 75 with everything going right - represent a way bigger gap than, say, the difference between 40 and 50 wins.

But I genuinely don’t see how they’d be a ~.500 team like you mention. They have at least 10 genuine positive NBA players discounting Shai (and that’s ignoring their ability to spawn other random ones out of thin air lmao, who the hell was Branden Carlson), Chet and JDub are clear all-star level players and their defensive personnel is ridiculous. No Shai OKC is still the #1 regular season defense, and I think they’d be about an average offense if neither JDub nor Chet took any type of leap at all. With how much their defense laps and would lap the field, that’s an insane regular season team still

I said it before this game so this is not a “Jazz beatdown convinced me” type of recency bias.

OKC could split their roster into two 7 deep rosters that both would be top 4 seeds in the West. And i don’t think i’m even being slightly hot here. They have astounding depth.

They have three definitive All-NBA talents. They have a couple of All-Defense. They are super well rounded.

Shai is a generational talent but he is benefitting from the greatest organizational peak in NBA history.
