Joel Embiid with 16 Points on 4–21 FG, 8-8 FT in 30 Minutes
Embiid couldn’t buy a bucket tonight, finishing 4–21 from the field and 0–5 from deep. Still chipped in 7 boards, 2 assists, a steal, and a block.

It’s a legit question now. Will Lebron or Embiid retire first?
Embiid ain’t retiring for at least 3 years. He’s got like 200 million coming
Hes got 200M left? Holy fuck
58, 63, 67 million across the next three years not including this year which is 55 million
highway robbery
I agree with you, but not according to some on reddit.
A while back I said how wrong it was for Morey to give Embiid and extension and some dude replied to me that every GM in the league would have done that.
Hell no.
Morey signed Embiid to this deal when Embiid still had 2 seasons left on his old deal.
Morey could have waited to re-sign him to see what Joel was like as he already had injury concerns, issues with his knee etc.
But even with Morey giving him this new contract when he still had two years left on his deal, some on this sub though it was the right thing to do.
Guess I found Embiid’s mother on here…
“76ers regret the Joel Embiid extension more every day
Embiid still had two full seasons left on his deal and was already injured when the 76ers extended him. He was hurt in the Olympics and clearly not the MVP that Philadelphia fans fell in love with. The timing of the extension didn’t make sense, especially after the franchise signed Paul George to a massive contract.”
I don’t think every G.M. in the league would have given Embiid such a deal with his injury issues while he still had two seasons left on his current contract.
what’s worse, he only got PG because he punted Embiid’s peak season by not wanting to do any trade so he could have a clean slate in Free Agency.
Embiid hard carrying that horrible sixers that had lost Harden because Morey is a liar arguably got him hurt.
and if that wasn’t enough, he offered the new deal WHILE EMBIID WAS HURT and naturally no one knew how he was going to look when he returned. SPOILER: he came back as a shell of his former self.
I think you’re wrong. Bad take and using hindsight to claim it as good is in poor taste.
I mean Embiid has always been injury proned since he came to the league and him saying to wait for a bit before resigning Embiid isn’t wrong.
It’s not hindsight to assume a 7 footer who has never been healthy a single season in his entire career won’t suddenly become more healthy after turning 30 and having multiple major knee surgeries
Makes AD look like a good deal.
Daryl Morey had a disastrous offseason in 2024.
Re-signed Embiid to a 3 year (roughly) 193M deal that starts next season and expires in 2028-29.
Signed PG to a four year max deal, with a PO in the fourth year, which he will definitely pick up.
It’s weird how the 76ers have such a great young core in Maxey, McCain, and Edgecomb but they also have 2 of the worst contracts in the entire league between Embiid and PG
If Embiid and PG didnt break down, theyd have been the real ‘2 timelines’ team
There is no 2 timeline situation possible. You have to pay your stars. Even if PG and Embid stay healthy their contracts would overlap with the younger stars putting the team in 2nd apron status. Once you get off those two contracts you would still have three young stars possibly taking up most of the cap space and preventing you from making moves to improve your roster.
The CBA essentially locks teams into small windows and they have to be able to tinker or draft players in that same window to maintain relevance.
Still fine with the PG deal.
PG has 160 million left including this year. Lucky for the sixers that they have some great young pieces.
RIP Sixers cap space
I dont think lebron will retire in 3 years either with how he’s still playing.
Worst extension ever. And we didn’t have to do it but our dumb fans cheered it on
stretch and waive
Joel can’t even get the sure two points when he went up against Reaves in the post, wtf
That was wild Lebron just looking like uhh ok
His knees are cooked
Maybe it’s karma for what he did to Mitchell Robinson the clip
I might love you
His knees are legit cooked lol
His knees look like they’re about to turn to dust every step he takes, it’s sad to see what injuries have done to him
it’s his own fault. you’re a 7 feet 300 pound guy flopping every time some guy touches you. stand up and act like a man
You think flopping is why he’s been ground down by injury? I would have very high doubts on that. Some people are just naturally injury prone more than others
it certainly doesn’t help his case either tbf
Idk if that’s the only reason lol he was injured way before he even played an nba game
He’s never been injured from falling down. Every significant injury he’s had has come from trying to remain upright in difficult positions.
Is it sad though? Him being a corpse out there means he is too cooked to play dirty and injure others
Or him being cooked means he’s more likely to play dirty and injure others
aka the ole Dwyane Wade arc
i’d say it’s karma for flopping and trying to injure other players (e.g. Mitchell Robinson)
Embiid is not retiring lol he’s owed 55m/y for the next 3 years. No reason to retire and leave that money on the table.
Does he not get to keep the contract if he retires?
I don’t think so. If you quit, your job doesn’t have to pay you.
He can “effectively retire” by basically be a DNP - soreness/recovery/rest for 3 seasons in a row, and never play a game again.
I wasn’t sure how it worked with NBA contracts being guaranteed
Guaranteed for injuries not if you retire
I’m sure they can work out a buy-out / soft retirement if it keeps declining.
Only if he has a career ending injury. Brandon Roy got his contract when he medically retired.
Would not shock me if Embiid is 1-2 years away from this.
It’s joelver
Remember when Lebron was the old goat candidate exiting his prime and on a retirement tour in LA for his kids and Embiid was the next up Center of the future? The former is still true while Embiid is now a heavily declined ex-great on the verge of retirement
Embitch ain’t retiring until that contract ends
Embiid and PG are the real #washedkings. Good job Morey!
They’re stuck with PG for 2 more years after this and Embiid 3 more after this
Combined they’re taking up over 60% of the teams cap space
It sucks because Maxey and VJ are an excellent duo to build around. They will be significantly hampered by these two deals over the next three years at least.
Even if the Sixers dump those albatross contracts, they will lose several key assets to help build around Maxey and VJ.
Morey had an abysmal 2024 offseason. He went all in on the Embiid era when Embiid was clearly cooked.
He had an abysmal 2023 offseason, pissing off harden and punting a peak Embiid year.
Morey is who everyone thinks Joe Dumars is. Both awful but Dumars has a ring and Morey gets absolutely no shit for destroying multiple franchises.
Morey destroyed Houston?
His Chris Paul for Russell Westbrook trade was awful.
That was a last resort trade to extend the teams championship window. They were already done as a championship contender by that point.
Harden merchant. His entire strategy as a GM seems to be: “trade for random pieces and hope Harden/Embiid can make it work.”
Harden made him look like a genius, Embiid made him look like an idiot.
that philly team rebounded from the ben simmons downfall pretty well. had a good team around harden and joel. Joel body broke down in those playoff runs like they always do unfortunately.
Hes also credited with drafting philly new franchise guy in maxey in the late teens/20s( i forget), drafting mccain and VJ. ofcourse the paul george and joel extension are disasters lol
Morey has been pretty excellent in the draft(post lottery picks like Batum, Harrell, Capela, Hartenstein, Brooks, Maxey and McCain.
I mean is VJ really a piece you build around? He looks talented but not the notion of a “duo” you build around.
This feels like a super crazy take for someone who hasn’t shown remotely that he can be that.
Vj is overrated
At least they got those clipper picks
Embiid was clearly cooked after scoring 50 against the Knicks in the playoffs, a career high?
At this point I kinda want Embiid to be forced to retire so that he doesn’t even sniff a cent of the remaining contract. Man is dirty and handicapped our team because he was getting rightfully bitched.
Not really stuck - they have enough picks they’d be able to trade at least one of them by attaching draft assets. They just choose not to.
Yea I’m not really broke I can just get a payday loan at 300% APR whenever I want
not really a good comparison since those picks are already assigned to the Sixers, and there’s no world in which they don’t come through (unlikely a payday loan, which you can only pay back if you keep your employment)
You’re right I’m not really broke I can just sell my house and become homeless 👍
Stuck with those 2 but drafting his ass off. At least their medium to long term outlook is fine lmao
Not bad for a guy so enamored by harden he has giant painting of him in his home.
They’ll be fine
he’s averaging 18.2 on 40.7/22/85 and 51% TS
51% TS for a 7 footer is horrid omfg
Rookie Alex Sarr numbers
Putting up keyonte George stats if keyonte George was bad
Its worse than that, his TS is propped up by soft fouls. Embiid been straight ass
His extension hasn’t kicked in yet btw
That’s crazy. Why extend him so far in advance?
He was still struggling with injuries but he was also dominating his opponents.
I tried to get a sensible answer to that from both the media and Sixers reddit, and there was never a good reason. Closest was something like “he won an MVP and we owe him for past performance, there’s no choice”, which just isn’t true (the MVP part is true, but the owing part isn’t), but that was the least unconvincing answer I saw the whole time. Still puzzled.
The main reason, injuries aside, is that he was basically averaging more points than minutes played as a center, which is unheard of. The extension was a massive mistake because Joel is nothing but loser energy, but can’t deny that his offensive game last year prior to the injury was nuts.
I guess the question is less “why ever extend him”, it’s more “why do it early and for the max when you know his injury history and level of success now that we’re clearly at least near the end of his prime”. But you’re not wrong, he was still scoring exceptionally when available.
Wilt averaged 50.4 ppg for a season so it’s definitely heard of
He was a mvp level player up until this seasons for like the last half decade. But now the injuries have fully caught up to him.
going with the fadeaway on Reaves down the stretch was brutal
Multiple bricks with reaves on him after the pick and roll
I noticed that
Especially cuz it wasn’t like a scheme thing there was no free safety like the jokic coverage
Also not like reaves is a secretly stout guy, like imo Jamal Murray secretly defends above his weight class for example
It’s a pretty soft 1 or 2 guard size guarding a once dominant center 💔
He didn’t have the legs to make that shot either
Missed fastbreak layup by a 7 footer too, oof
His knee is cooked. Zero lift, laboring running down the floor. And he can’t be physical down low either as he has zero mobility now to create space.
Reaves guarding him in the last few minutes was funny because he couldn’t super capitalize most of the time
7 footer doing a fadeaway on a subpar defensive SG while in the paint. Just crazy
+11 though, sixers looked a lot worse when he wasn’t on the court.
Largely because Andre Drummond couldn’t defend a pick and roll to save his life and would cheat and get lobbed on
Yeah he has his limitations, really exposed against the good teams.
Drummond appeared to be completely checked out on offense. Gave off Ja Morant vibes
I’m old enough to remember draft night Wilt comparisons for Ayton. No one’s doing that now.
That stat means nothing. He did nothing and only played defense a few times and rebounded like shit
Luka didn’t play good either and had a tripppe dub. NBA stats now are such BS it’s crazy
I was at game and watched it all. I was shocked by Luka stat line, played so sloppy. Embiid looked terrible though
He created loads of space and was getting double teamed even with his poor shooting. As long as he can stay on the court it’ll improve
Embiid absolutely sold that game lol
He can’t jump anymore. I’m not joking, he can’t get any lift on shots that aren’t free throws.
It’s not every night, but it’s def some nights. I’m hoping he’s just still out of shape, but I don’t know
Legit was less threatening than drummond
On offense yes but defensively Drummond lost the game because of his drop coverage on pick and rolls, Embiid is much better
+11, Drummond was -15 and Lakers every run was with Drummond on the floor
Yea Embiid couldn’t hit a shot for his life, but at least he wasnt a complete bum on defense. Watching Drummond get cooked or force plays under rim was just a hard watch
Embiid’s shot isn’t what I am worried about with him, just like Lebron found his groove again tonight, it’s bound to happen soon. The defense was promising and he was moving really well, he was a +11 in spite of missing shots, the shots will fall soon.
Embiid’s shot is the last thing I’m worried about
Don’t bother explaining basketball to a Lakers fan.
Every lakers run was with Drummond on the floor lol
Wow dominayton
Dominbiidon
Body can’t keep up anymore, sad to see a perennial MVP candidate be such a shell of his former self. You have to feel bad for him, you can see he still has the hunger to play but he just can’t anymore
Washed as fuck lmao
Probably the first time Ayton has shut him down honestly. Good shit.
That’s what I get for rooting embiid for the first time in my chungus life
His lower body is done man. It’s impressive he’s even out there
It equaled out. Austin was literally bricking everything and so was Embiid
Clamped by Reaves
It was actually kind of sad to watch PG & Elvis play. Their great days are behind them unfortunately
You never know. Elvis already came back once in ‘68.
Basically Embiid is now a stretch five. Refused to go into the paint.
He looked pretty spry tonight. Missed a ton of shots that he has been making even this year. Still doesn’t have confidence to contest on defense which is a huge issue and only time will tell if this is the just how it is from now on. No idea why he kept forcing the 3 though…
He hasn’t been good, or really even average, on D in years at this point
I mean I guess 2 years is technically “years” but that makes it seem kind of longer than it has been; in the 2023-24 season before kuminga sat on his knee he was playing like the best player in the world; 34.7 ppg on crazy splits, and averaging over a steal and 2 blocks per game in 39 games. I do still think there is a chance he can get more confidence back to improve his D, but obviously he won’t get back to that level.
At what point do you think about waive and stretch, or sending out a pick to move him? They’re wasting these other guys.
sixers owe him 188m over 3 seasons not counting the 55m from this season.
it’s not fixable.
Sixers are such an oddly constructed team. Kind of stuck with an aging PG and Embid on horrible contracts but then having young rising stars that they can’t build around
[deleted]
This dude had Reaves on him and decided to take a fade-away brick lmfao.
That was some Jaren Jackson jr shit
When the hell did he take 21 shots, that’s crazy. I didn’t realize he took that many shots
Embiid looked slow all game, but the Lakers didn’t really have an answer for him, just missed shots really and the refs were letting things go tonight so less chances to establish a rhythm from the line
Pandemic P and Embiid really fleeced the Sixers 100m+ in cap space in the next 3 years just to shoot 7⁄29
The turnaround fade while being guarded by Reaves was certainly a choice.
Oh how the mighty have fallen
Feel bad for him but he’s cooked, the movement just isn’t there
Is Embiid just Mitchell Robinson with better free throws? /s
He wishes, Mitch had more offensive rebounds today than Embiid has rebounds total.
The process 😂
He’s completely washed. All he’s good for now is some serviceable rim protection here and there.
Two years removed from being the league MVP. Wild. Kinda like D Rose.
Both him and Reaves were terrible tonight.
Those knees are cooked cooked.
When he couldn’t score one on one against Reaves you think he questioned hanging them up after his contract is up?
I’m just surprised he is playing 😅😅😅
He should come off the bench.
Never seen someone win a MVP and then essentially fade into irrelevancy. Not sure we will ever see that version of him again.
This is lowkey nba 2k level degredation
I got nervous when he started jumping after his name was announced
And was a team high +11 in a 4 pt loss
Trust Dee Pro-cesss
Half of his points coming from the FT line. Some things never change.
#leavethegamebeforethegameleavesyou
They’re better with Drummond. Tough position to be in.
Embiid is so beyond cooked. He is out there for a paycheck and nothing else lol.
Trust the process
Bum
First time watching him this season and hopefully the last.
dude got washed before Lebron did.
His knee is cooked. It’s an unfortunate way to go out
Imagine crying for mvp and then shooting a fadeaway in the post over a player 7 inches shorter than you in the clutch
Looks like a Luka line
