It’s supposedly possible to cheat combine vertical by not fully extending your arms during the standing reach measurement, since vertical is calculated based on how high they jump - standing reach. Sheppard’s 42” vertical was tied for best at the combine that year, so even if he did manage to cheat it a little there never should have been any question about whether he had hops.

Yeah he definitely cheated it, he measured 1.5β taller than Jamal Shead and with a .25β longer wingspan but ended up with a 2.5β shorter standing reach.
He had a 7β9.5β standing reach. For comparison Jared McCain was .25β taller with a .25β longer wingspan and measured with an 8β2β standing reach.
But even if he cheated an extra 4β of vert at the combine, a 38β vert is still awesome. Thatβs similar to VJ Edgecombe, Ron Holland, and Buzelis.
