Not necessarily. That’s Kerr’s MO. 

He’s always told certain players to run the floor and don’t try to over-do it when pressured.  Even players like Steph and Klay were instructed to do the same thing. 

I’m surprised Kerr is saying this now because they are thinking of trading Kuminga, and I would’ve expected them to try to gloss him up until January 15th’s deadline.

I feel like JK is being over coached at the moment, or maybe he’s still recovering from being hurt. We know he can be very good. Lately i think he’s lost. He did well in the wolves series. He started this season well. He was good a year ago before he got hurt.

Were the Warriors betting on him having high trade value? Seems to me that he’s got his contract to work as salary filler that will come off the books for the receiving team, and any picks will be the primary assets exchanging hands. His team option and high 1 year salary just means the Dubs lose fewer role players and the receiving team does not ask for an extra pick for taking on bad salary long term.

Y’all have a short memory. He started this season great. He got hurt lately and had been coming back. He played great in the wolves playoff series. He played great before he got hurt last december. He’s a great talent, but still a work in progress to a degree

Upside is Podz and Kuminga are young, and maybe they develop better under a different coaching system and ball out elsewhere.

If he’s smart he’ll retire so nobody will ever know the answer if he can coach without Steph on the team.

Me thinks the US World Cup coming in 4th ranked with a decent squad is a little eye brow raising.

His system is designed for Steph and no other player in the league can do it. Even if he wants to keep coaching, his system will fail after Steph.

The Warriors have made it pretty dang clear that they won’t just give him away and would rather let him depreciate on the bench. If they can’t get the value they want, I don’t see why they would all of a sudden change their tune and trade him instead of just doing this again next season.

January 15th is the date they can trade him

Kuminga is an absolutely special athletic talent. His athletic ceiling is as high as they come.

Problem is, Kuminga during the regular season last year, was ~34% on midrange jumpers. Good enough for 3rd lowest amongst qualifying players with the required minimum attempts.

When Kuminga finally got the volume he wanted, on a fairly injured playoff Warriors roster, his point totals went way up briefly, but his midrange percentage not only didn’t go up … his midrange % plummeted to 30 or 31. Good enough for worst in the playoffs.

Kuminga, in his small, uninventive, poor-decision-making mind, is the next Kevin Durant or Tracy McGrady. In reality, he simply doesn’t have enough fine-motor-skill to be that guy.

He certainly looks the part when running the floor, finishing the break, driving to the bucket, his pull up while horrifyingly inefficient, aesthetically looks promising.

But I have a strong suspicion he simply lacks sufficient nerve ending concentration in his thumb/pointer, and insufficient communication bandwidth on his radial/ulnar nerve bridge to ever be a great shooter, much less so any potential to be a great motion shooter, and even less potential to ever be a good shooter off the dribble.

The idea is that if Kuminga runs the floor in transition he’ll be available for a pass from whoever rebounded the ball and is pushing. Podz needs to e faster to keep the ball moving. They’re not contradictory - Kerr is saying both guys need to play better team ball.
