For starters I know we have the lowest number of possessions per game in the nba. Secondly we do shoot a ton of threes. But there has got to be other analytical reasons for this! I suppose you could add that our superstar (ya we got two but the one playing currently) plays the game with what you could argue too much integrity. Trust me I do appreciate it but his lack of flopping and “selling” calls hurts him. Literally could be in contention for top scorer in the league if he got to the line more. Guys like Brunson, Reeves, SGA have absolutely ZERO shame and practice what they call in soccer the dark arts to get those calls. Maybe that’s it summarized but man it’s shocking sometimes. Like we blow Washington out by damn near 50 and they get more attempts than us. DIABOLICAL

Our attempts shouldn’t be shocking. In fact, we are averaging just 0.3 less free throws than last year (18.8 vs 19.1), despite Losing Tatum, Jrue, Porzingus, and the rest of our big man rotation.

We have been consistently in the bottom five in fta in the league for the entirety of Mazzulla’s tenure as coach. The last time we weren’t in the bottom 10 was 2020. Mazzulla really prioritizes ball movement and open/good shots, which is why we have had such an effective offense over the years. It’s hard to foul a cutter or a corner shooter when there’s no one around them.

The only complaint I have about our attempts is Jaylen “ethical hooper” Brown, he gets hacked like crazy with no whistle.

Obviously our differential sucks. We adopted OKC’s “can’t call them all” strategy without their whistle. Even with that explanation, I find our -7 free throws than differential ridiculous. Have we even shot more free throws than our opponent once this season?

I expected this team to be significantly worse than they are, so I am extremely happy with how the season is turning out (also, fuck the lakers)
