Gonna get downvoted for this and I understand the Clippers suck, but the coaches are there to do their job and the players have their own jobs. A player on the bench telling another player to not follow the coaching scheme is extremely dysfunctional even if they had good intentions and potentially could be the correct suggestion.

It’s different if he was on the court and actively changing the scheme during live play to match what was happening, but that’s not who CP is now in this stage of his career and you can’t do that on the bench.

It’s as if I’m coaching my 6th grade team and I tell them to switch off a screen for a certain player and one of the players on the bench tells his teammates to just stick with their man instead behind my back. It completely changes the gameplan.

I can see why Van Gundy was upset but his schemes were obviously not working for this team. A good team is open to discussion about how to improve and this staff did not give their players that opportunity. Just a terrible organization

Cp3 is one of the greatest defensive point guards ever. He’s was basically the on court defensive coach for the suns during their finals run. Constantly changing coverage and directing guys where to go. He singledhandly won games with his bbiq at his old age because he could read plays and come up with timely steals. Clippers are a disgrace

I can’t help but sympathize with the Clippers in this instance. They are having a season from hell, after a summer in hell, and it looks like in hell they will remain for some time. The best they can do is try and close ranks, buy-in as a team and try to salvage their season. The last thing they need right now is a player with the cache of Chris Paul, without the production, creating friction within the team.

Chris Paul is an NBA legend but, honestly, he should have more self awareness about his situation. Besides a farewell tour, he was brought in to provide veteran leadership to the team, which entails working with the coaches and not undermining them. I get it: he’s too much of a competitor to sit idly by as the team implodes. But he should have talked to the coaches first and, if he did, then he needs keep trying to make his case with them rather than encourage players to disregard their instructions.

If kawhi cant keep up with no achilles statue klay he shouldn’t be on the court, good lord…

Listen. I’ve always thought cp3 was an asshole but he had a profound impact in San Antonio last season so listening to him might be in your best interest. Disappointed by JVG and the clippers to act like they’re too good for input from an all time player.

My reading of the situation is CP3 overstepped his boundaries. I’ve seen similar situations at work when we’ve had a change in management and some people still think that they have it like they used to with the previous guy. Respect goes both ways and you always have to know what your role is vs what the guys running the place. Giving instructions to players is simply undermining the coaching staff. Whichever way you look at it. Now, guys like LeBron, Kobe, Jordan and even CP3 in their prime can undermine their coaches and people will put up with it coz they’re the star players and are paid huge money even compared to the coaches. But the coaches definitely hate it. We all saw LeBron shoulder checking Spo. If it was up to Spo he’d have sent LeBron packing instantly! But he understood he was lower on the totem pole and overall the team would benefit from having LeBron there.

CP3 at 40 is far from the player he was in his prime, so he needed to recognise that and take a step back. No one is putting up with his bs at this stage of his career. He should have known better.
