I’m on the record saying that Kornet should have been super max’d. I miss our beautiful boy.

Kornet is getting paid twice per year what Horford is getting paid for twice as long.

I would have liked to keep Kornet, but Horford ditching us to go play for a worse team for potentially $2M more is what is really disappointing.

No ill will towards Kornet. He is in the perfect spot with the perfect role. Glad he got paid, but it’s also understandable why we didn’t pay him

Hauser was already under contract; Kornet wasn’t. What an odd comparison.

It’s a bit different because the Celtics had bird rights on Hauser because he was a 2 way contract that got converted into a multi year rookie deal. We got bird rights for Kornet through a series of minimum salary contracts when he was a free agent. 

But in short we could’ve paid Kornet but while I really do appreciate him, I think he’s the type of player the Celtics need to be developing/not paying as long as the Celtics have wings of the Jays caliber. The smart rim running, protecting big that can make smart reads on offense… 

I don’t think they had any intention of re-signing anyone last summer, just because that’s the easiest way to offload money. I imagine Hauser was worth it at the time because continuity is premium when you’re trying to repeat.

Only the Nets would have been able to take Sam’s contract without sending us $$$ back, I believe. No one else had cap space, so everyone else would have had to send the C’s back 75% of Sams contract as well.

The problem is order of operations; we could’ve signed him to slightly less than the spurs and be under the 2nd apron but we needed the flexibility under the second apron to make the jrue and KP trades we did

So we would had to tell Luke to wait a month and then we’ll give you the money I promise. Which is practically not feasible cause San Antonio was there right then and he can’t exactly let every offer him by on the promise of an owner he doesn’t know yet

apparently we need to cut even more salary, or there was reports that we could be looking to shed more salary

I love but the issue is age and upside Queta is 26 about to enter his prime and Kornet is 30. I love Kornet but he’s not a full time starter (and probably in the best spot possible as Wembys caddy) and the Spurs gave him an above market contract for what he was he was. No shame in and I’m glad he got paid.

I love Kornet as much as anyone but would much rather have Queta on \(2mil than Kornet on \)10mil. To sign Kornet, we would have had to move Hauser. With Walsh stepping up recently maybe we could have afforded to move Hauser, but we don’t know if there were any takers. If a pick were needed to ditch Hauser’s contract and sign Kornet that’s probably not worth it

Our team salary right now is almost \(150 million for the Jays and White. Then Payton Pritchard is making \)8 million, which is a steal. And then, realistically, we needed to pick one of Sam Hauser or Luke Kornet to extend at that $10-12M per year slot … and our front office extended Sam Hauser, and then made Luke a low offer and Luke rightly accepted SAS offer… it would have been nice to have retained Luke but also, would Queta have gotten this opportunity or would coach play Luke 35 minutes a game and then split the leftover scraps of playing time between Queta, Garza and Tillman …

I think it worked out for the best, imo …. Luke is in a better financial position and Celtics were forced to innovate and try some new players and this worked out best for us

I really miss him but I’m also glad he got his bag. It’s one we could never have matched.

To stay under the 2nd apron they would have needed to unload Simons (which would have cost picks). If Brad can turn the Simons contract into Ivica Zubac at the deadline I think losing Kornet makes sense. If not, it’s more unfortunate.

His guaranteed money is just 2 years and some extra in the third, with the rest in 3, and all of 4, a team option. I doubt it was about the second apron but more the repeater tax…just the guaranteed money (something like 24 million) would have cost the Celtics probably 70+. I think they were a little surprised he got that offer when he’d been willing to take the minimum for the past couple of years and how much he liked being here, but he is an excellent back up center in this league.

I very much miss Kornet. My daughter and I used to call him “Big Bird.” Probably one of the smartest guys who has played for the Celtics.

I maintain the Celtics media team should have doubled SA’s offer to keep the Kontent. 

I will always miss Luke but I’ll also always be happy he got PAID for his monster season last year.

Could we probably. Should we hell yes. But the team wanted to stay under the second apron and went with cheaper options. Resign Tillman and then signed Garza. I don’t think both of them combined can add up to what Luke ment to this team. Im all in on trading Tillman and investing in the rookie Amari Williams. But miss Luke and the Kornet Kontest

Only way Celtics would have ponied up for Kornet is if they could have dumped Simons contract.
