For starters:
Maryland doesn’t have any true “rural areas” except the Western Panhandle at best and even that is debatable. Distance wise, the entire state is close to either Bmore, DC, Philly or Pittsburg even on the West side (or heck, Cinci). Only far Eastern Shore is debatable but Ocean City is actually really built up.
Even the areas further out from Central MD are nothing here like the rural areas in the middle of the country or even just a little further West/South into Appalachia.
With that being said, Pat was born in a (sub)urban area…a Philly suburb in PA very close to the city itself, so this is wrong anyways.
Edit: another add, he’s from Davidsonville in MD which is literally the least “rural” you can get in the entire state. Literally a short 20min drive from BOTH DC and Baltimore in either direction, there’s a ton of built up urban looking suburbs throughout both beltway areas.
Edit 2: and I was literally gonna say that myself. The exact thing someone who can only look up Davidsonville on wiki sees is that it looks like a rural town and is called “semi-rural” on paper. But in reality ANYONE who actually lives in the area or has been around (more than the person who commented) would know very, very well the truth about Davidsonville which is that it is sandwiched close perfectly between multiple large cities lol.
The entire point is Spencer “shouldn’t say something like this” but Davidsonville is within a short 10min drive to areas where DC and Baltimore suburbs use phrases like this all the time. You hear it on the radio, people who are in that area between the two cities for work 85% of the time live closer to one of those cities than the Davidsonville residents do and the majority of people you meet in the area will be from one of the cities or close to them.
I’ve been to MD many times. There’s lots of fucking rural areas in Northern & Western MD. The wiki literally says “a semi-rural area” for Davidsonville. Again, him yelling that shit like he’s from the hood with is fucking corny as the cop stache.
