I enjoy hating on the Lakers, but he is on a tear this season. OKC is clearly the frontrunner, but the Lakers are getting dangerous.
Lakers still have weaknesses that make them easy for some teams and hard for others. I dont thinkbtheyre necessarily a worse team than my rockets, but the chances luka/ar shoot hot enough to win in a seven game series is very small. With us playing double bigs to mop up offensive rebounds theyd probably lose by 30 on a night they have off shooting, or win by 20 on nights theyre hot. No inbetween

We are below average on D for the first 3 quarters, but in the 4th we are really good. Basically missing just 1 more good defensive piece as a starter and Marcus Smart from the bench.

Our Offense is as good as theirs but they also have the best defense in the league where ours is mid at best.
I still have the Lakers #4 in the West. Defense is a problem. They’ve had some issues with swarming, athletic defenses too. I think IF LeBron rounds back in form (is this the year father time catches up?) that will solve this particular problem. But the defense problem isn’t really solvable.
One underrated issue is Rui is a mediocre at best defensive fit but the Lakers are a mediocre low volume 3 point shooting team so while trading him for a more conventional defensive wing might help with some defensive fit issues, the Lakers might fall beneath the level of spot up 3 point shooting needed to compete

I had it written somewhere but off the top of my head in the 5 games or so last season and this season as a first option Reaves is averaging like 35/5/5 on close to 50/40/90 shooting splits. Small sample size but is showing to be a more than capable first option, he’s only track for his 3rd 40 point game, possibly his 2nd 50.

Fail to see how their teammates abilities on the defensive end is on them. Luka has had an elite defence built around him twice with entirely different rosters and none of those players had a single all def vote between them.
Dunno about the nuggets in detail but depending on how Lebron plays over the course of the season the Lakers have 40 to 90 mil in just straight-up dead cap space.
OKC got like 5-6 All-Defense calibre defenders and the best they have is the corpse of Smart and like LaRavia

Lakers aren’t trading Reaves. People need to stop with this and realize that this organization absolutely loves AR, and has since day one. Not to mention AR is getting to play for his childhood team.
What the Lakers really need is for Giannis to go to NYK and they find a way to grab OG or Hart in a 3 team trade. That would fix a bigger weakness than trading AR and Rui for Giannis. The Lakers spacing would be ugly if they traded those 2 for Giannis, so this would turn into a lost season, until they can rebuild the team with better shooting role players through free agency in 2026.
Focusing on depth and defense, makes more sense than gutting the roster for Giannis.
I actually like Hart plus OG more than Giannis. We really need athletic defenders more than we need star power.

Reaves, as the clearly first option (with double/triple teams all night which included Scotty Barnes the 6’8” defensive player of the month) proceded to carry the team on his back by scoring a 44 point, 11 assist double double (on 13 for 21 shooting), on a night that Rui nailed a tough game winner at the buzzer (the very first in his career). But of course, after the game, all that the announcers & JJ cared about, and could talk about was Lebron sacrificing his 10pt streak (because he was 4 for 17 tonight, even with Austin hand feeding him the entire fourth quarter to help him get those last 2 buckets). Because Lebron did the right thing, and passed to an open Rui who was WIDE OPEN and hit the game winner.
