Honestly the whole team has been good. It’s absolutely shocking the Spurs went 7-2 in that stretch with such a hard schedule. Yesterday’s @ORL b2b win was the definition of a trap game and they still won.

One major takeaway I have from this stretch is the turnovers are significantly down with no Castle and Wemby. It makes a big difference. All but confirms to me that if Wemby and Castle can tone that down just a little bit, there will be no stopping this team. I feel like the whole NBA is asleep to the fact that the Spurs are for real.

I dont know how many teams still run pure PGs as primary ball handlers anymore tbh. Orlando is a team with many great perimeter defenders and is one of the better teams at generating turnovers. We definitely had higher than normal (even for their opponents) amount this game though so cant blame it all on Magic defense.

He’s averaging 3 turnovers per game since Castle and Victor have been out. With his usg% 7 assist per, that’s pretty solid. Steph and Victor are both averaging 4 TOs per game. All with simliar usg%, steph being slight below them at 25%.

I think Vic just has a bad habit of trying to play iso ball, which looks cool as hell when it works, but a lot of times leads to a play breaking down or turning the ball over. Steph was really cleaning up his passing and was showing a marked improvement in his decision making before going down with injury.

Over all, at this point, the team is really gelling well, I’m curious how the team is going to adapt when both of the other stars come back.

You could argue his contract is somewhat inflated but I don’t even know how true that is given the cap increases every year but it’s not hurting the Spurs at this moment and they clearly need and value him for the next few seasons as they get better

People also forget that the contract was partly an aspect of the deal that brought him to SA in general. Fox agreed to request a trade specifically to the Spurs and to sign an extension there with the expectation that they were going to give him that contract.

This let the Spurs negotiate a very team-friendly trade deal for him that imo, is worth the contract. We didn’t have to give up any core rotation players.

When you are a small market team you have to overpay to obtain star players. Fox is probably somewhat getting overpaid but he’s genuinely been elite for us and when considering how little we gave up to obtain him, has been worth every penny.

Right now it makes sense and the contract is timed perfectly. Wemby’s extension wont kick in until 2027-28, castle’s in 2028-29, and Harper’s in 2029-2030, at which point Fox will already be off the books, traded, or extended on a much lower deal. If they need to use that salary to go big game hunting in the next couple years that’s even better

Cap space is usually necessary to build a team and get better. Bigger contracts are harder to move off of if things go south. I don’t think anyone is upset he is getting that money, it’s just about the effects that salary has on the team

I think it’s normal to pay a #1 and #2 guy on a title team max contracts so if Fox can be Wemby’s Robin, which I believe is possible, I am not really tripping about the contract myself. But thats the argument against it

Takes a very hands-on role with personnel decisions to our detriment. There’s an infamous video of us drafting Stauskas which seemed to be driven by Vivek. Same with the decisions to trade for Lavine. Also suggested at one point that we play 4-on-5 defense and cherry pick for easy baskets.

He’s surrounded by advisors that don’t really curtail his worst impulses. He’s installed his daughter as the GM of our G-League team, only for her to step down after having an affair with a player that was arrested for murdering an ex gf.

It’s just all bad. Good ownership is the biggest competitive edge in sports.
