[Highlight] Marques Johnson uses colorful language to express his disbelief that KPJ getting smacked in the head is confirmed as a common foul
Marques has long been a very measured voice in the booth. He seldom complains about officiating and gives them lots of latitude. I think the Bucks whistle is breaking him a bit this season.
Seriously it feels like the league has it out for the Bucks. I’m not a conspiracy guy but it feels like they really want Giannis off that team as soon as possible.
I see it in the sub, too. I’m all for Giannis to stop wasting his time on a bad team but this shit seems ridiculous.
Breaking all of us tbh
Every time I see a play like this I swear it’s just a complete coin toss for whether it’s called a flagrant or not. Sometimes contact to the head is an immediate flagrant regardless of the intent and other times this happens lol
no coin toss when the Pistons are involved lol
You complain as this very clip says otherwise
The Pistons are involved in this, that’s a Pistons player in the video, that’s Ausar Thompson he plays for your team
Really bizarre time to try to make this claim.
Marques is genuinely one of the best and least biased in his commentary broadcasters in the league.
So his frustration with the bucks whistle this season is real and valid lol
Potentially biased here as a Bucks fan but I swear we are being officiated differently this year, across the board. Highest FT differential in the league. Been to several games this year watching other teams guys pick up fouls by bobbing their head slightly under minimal contact while literal shoves and smacks like this one go uncalled against us.
The league definitely coordinates this shit, you can’t tell me they don’t.
I say that as a Spurs fan, and we are completely on the opposite side of the spectrum this year. The calls we’ve been getting all year have been crazy lol. You can see opposing players getting angrier and angrier the deeper they get into games with us…
Have you seen how the ref officiated Zac Collins when he plays for us,its infuriating to the level that you think Zach sleeping with all this offical wives.
Naw I believe it. I chalked it up to conspiracy theorists then I watched a few buck games and it was wild what got let go
Highest FT differential in the league
Literally the only team in the league shooting fewer FTs than last year, meanwhile teams like the Celtics are missing their best FT shooter from last season and still ticking up.
Why did Boston catch a stray? Literally 30th in FTA per game and they also are taking fewer than last year
It’s not a stray, there are so many more FTs across the league this year that even the Celtics, missing Tatum and trading away two other starters and taking the fewest FTs in the league, were taking more FTs than they did last year until a couple of games ago (that stat was slightly out of date and you are indeed currently taking 0.1 fewer FTs than last year).
Meanwhile, while we did lose a great foul baiter in Dame, we’ve gone from 5th in the league in FTs to 29th with a ~15% decrease and even missing Dame we actually drive more now (thanks Rollins and Anthony) than we did last year. The whistle has been appalling.
League wants Giannis moved.
Zero consistency is my gripe.
Compare this foul to the flagrant Sims was assessed last game for “boxing out” and it will blow your mind
It changes so much from ref to ref and player to player and game to game.
exactly. if this kind of accidental contact is not a flagrant, that’s fine, but that’s not how its always called. jericho sims got a flagrant 2 games ago for literally just bumping his shoulder into a dude while boxing out + jumping up for a rebound. it makes no sense how these are called.
Was a flagrant 1, not 2, but yeah, that one was ridiculous.
I hate KPJ as much as the next guy but come on
Atleast he got a foul. Jokic smacked Edey in the back of head. No foul. He left only playing 6 minutes
WOW.
I need someone to explain me the rule book here, why it isn’t a flagrant.
The entire foul + replays + entire commentary (HD version) - via Streamable
The rule is extremely open ended. The preeminent term is “unnecessary contact”. The term “unnecessary” is not further defined. For a Flagrant 2, it’s “unnecessary and excessive”. Essentially, referee discretion. There are 6 additional criteria in the rules commentary.
Contact was moderately severe. It was a legitimate attempt at a block. Only a little follow through. Modest potential for injury. Very mild actual severity. Nothing unnecessary after the contact.
It’s close but I think hitting with the meat of the forearm + legitimate play on the ball probably mitigated any recklessness.
What I take from this is KPJ should have rolled around in agony more to get the call, rookie mistake.
It’s such a terrible definition because wtf is the difference between illegal contact (common foul) and unnecessary contact (flagrant)?
That’s a great question.
Absolute joke of a review
Fuck you Tony Brothers. Nobody likes you.
Compare this to Gobert going through Caruso and making contact to block the shot. He was assessed a flagrant 1.
This was the explanation after the game. I’m fine if you call Rudy, but what part of this explanation doesn’t make this one a flagrant?
QUESTION: How did or didn’t Caruso’s initial grab of Gobert’s arm factor into the call of a Flagrant 1 against Gobert?
TIVEN: Gobert makes unnecessary contact to the face of Caruso, and Caruso grabbing Gobert’s arm wasn’t a factor. He’s a vulnerable airborne player with potential for injury in the air, and he was bracing himself in midair as a result of the illegal contact by Rudy.
Was it only because he was knocked to the ground?
I mean he kinda deserves to get smacked in the head. He has no problem doing it to others.
